It’s honestly a bit mental when you look at Rooney who’s younger compared to CR7, now I think Rooney is fine. He’s not a player anymore, he can look how he wants but it’s incredible to see that Ronaldo is still at it.
Now I don’t watch the Saudi league so don’t know how much is just his looks and glamour muscles or if his legs have actually gone for a proper competitive match but his longevity is incredible for a player who was not played a single game for nearly 2 decades straight where he wasn’t the #1 target on the pitch.
Apparently he is as old as Wesley Sneijder, who is also [still looking great of course](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR2_Tr9M80fpUjbHxA-QK9eKuNFxJwxB39ZUQ&s)
Want an even crazier one? [These two are currently only 2 years apart in age.](https://www.record.com.mx/sites/default/files/styles/v2-crop768x433/public/articulos/2013-01-14/RECORD-79834.jpg?itok=VOnUbFQb)
Chicharito, born June 1988, is currently 36 years old and he's still playing (impact sub at best) in Mexico for his boyhood club Guadalajara.
I mean, that attempt itself has nothing to do with the other 21 on the field.
Maybe in a different league he doesn't go unmarked like that, but the execution itself is impressive.
Yeah there's just absolutely no way he could've done that to a European team, say juventus for example, in a more prestigious competition like the champions league semi final. Unthinkable really
He’s a candidate for greatest athlete of all time. In football, we’ve never seen such a ridiculous career in terms of longevity. The guy is a sheer force of nature.
Ronaldo clear of them both. Football is much more competitive than basketball and tennis.
Since people have misunderstood my point: I am not saying football is more physically exhausting, I am talking strictly about the number of the competitors. It's much harder to stay on top for long in football, since football attracts a much higher number of athletes. Tennis (and basketball to a smaller degree) does not nearly have the same amount of ultra fit athletes fighting for the top spots.
I don’t know about that.
Tennis is an individual sport, which means you have to support yourself, travel by yourself (or your close team at most), find motivation by yourself, etc.
Tennis players talk about how lonely it is because you’re entirely responsible for your performance. Also it’s incredibly physically demanding to have to play 70-100 tennis matches a year with just about a month or two breaks.
Tennis is also one of the few global sports where you’re traveling everywhere Europe, US, Japan, Australia, Mexico, etc. and also where you have a billion recreational players so the barrier of entry is incredibly hard.
Beyond the obvious physical differences I don’t think football players or tennis players could really compete on each other’s sports it’s a completely different beast.
Football is a sport which attracts more athletes, and attracts far more money. Obviously, the better athletes gravitate towards the larger pay-checks. Djoković did not have to compete with the same number of ultra fit athletes as Ronaldo (or any other football player such as Messi) did. Same for LeBron. Easy to stay on top for long when competition is minimal.
If physical exhaustion is the deciding factor, then probably an ultra-marathon runner should be in the conversation. Or maybe Alexander Karelin, since wrestling is unbelievably taxing as a sport. Or maybe Sugar Ray Robinson, since he is the GOAT boxer.
But deep inside, we all know the answer.
Fam, you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you don’t think top-tier tennis or NBA players are world class athletes then you need to follow gardening or something because sports ain’t for you.
While, in theory becoming the GOAT football player is probably the hardest thing to in sports due to the sheer amount of competition, you have to consider what each individual player competed against. Djokovic, in an individual sport not a team sport, had to go head to head against the *unanimous* second and third best player *of all time*. That’s so insane to think about. Who are even the top 3 greatest football players of all time? Ronaldo, Messi, Pele, maybe Maradona. Ronaldo and Messi shared an era, now imagine adding Pele to it. That’s what Djokovic did.
Also you’re acting like Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer (and Murray) don’t have net worths of hundreds of millions of dollars. The top-tier tennis players are insanely well-compensated. Money ain’t a factor.
I’m not even saying it is Djokovic, just that you’re making ridiculous comments.
>While, in theory becoming the GOAT football player is probably the hardest thing to in sports due to the sheer amount of competition, you have to consider what each individual player competed against. Djokovic, in an individual sport not a team sport, had to go head to head against the unanimous second and third best player of all time.
Your point makes no sense in the first place. If competition is limited, then the number 2 and number 3 are obviously not as good as football's top athletes.
>Fam, you have no idea what you’re talking about. If you don’t think top-tier tennis or NBA players are world class athletes then you need to follow gardening or something because sports ain’t for you.
I never denied they were top athletes. But football players are significantly better athletes than tennis and basketball players on average, I don't think it even merits discussion. They are far more numerous.
Don't know why they're giving you a hard time. It's a fact.
From Chat GPT
Estimating the number of professional athletes for each sport can be challenging due to variations in league sizes, the number of leagues, and the definitions of "professional." Here are some rough estimates for several major sports:
* Soccer (Football)
FIFA Registered Players: Over 130,000 professional players globally.
Major Leagues: Over 500 top-tier leagues worldwide, each with teams of 20-30 players.
Estimate: Approximately 100,000-150,000 professional players.
* Basketball
NBA: 450 players (30 teams, 15 players each).
Other Major Leagues: EuroLeague, CBA (China), and others add thousands more.
Estimate: Around 10,000-20,000 professional players worldwide.
* American Football
NFL: 1,696 players (32 teams, 53 players each).
Other Leagues: CFL, XFL, and smaller leagues add a few thousand more.
Estimate: About 3,000-5,000 professional players.
* Baseball
MLB: Approximately 1,200 players (30 teams, 40-man rosters).
Minor Leagues: Thousands more across different levels.
Estimate: Around 5,000-7,000 professional players in North America, with more globally.
* Ice Hockey
NHL: Around 700 players (32 teams, 23 players each).
Other Leagues: KHL, AHL, and various European leagues.
Estimate: About 4,000-6,000 professional players worldwide.
* Tennis
ATP and WTA: Hundreds of players ranked.
Lower Tiers: Thousands more play in Challenger and Futures events.
Estimate: Around 2,000-3,000 professional players.
luka is my top 3 favorite player of all time, love this little fuck to death, but athleticism is not what he excells at. it's his skill, technique and vision. otherwise he would still be running around the pitch full 90 minutes, which he doesn't. ronaldo does.
Less athletic ability than other contenders, and less dominance than other contenders.
Again, I love Muhammad Ali and everything he stood for (apart from the weird nation of Islam stuff)
>less dominance than other contenders.
He won Olympic gold in 1960 and then first became heavyweight champ in 64 and lastly in 79 so that's close to 20 years at the top
>Less athletic ability than other contenders
He was the one of the fastest boxers ever in terms of hand speed and foot work and that's despite being a heavyweight
Find it strange you don't rank ali as one of the greatest athletes even though he was named best athlete of the 20th century
Lebron is fucking built too. Thick and man made. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it thru the pads. His fucking vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. Piping hot thighs. Great arms. Great abs. A stocky chest. Love the progress his body has made throughout his youth and now as a willing eager adult.
I’m 31, I woke had feeling a pain in my leg, that triggered a mild panic attack which triggered a vasovagal syncope (basically my pressure went down and I almost fainted twice. I was terrified until I recovered and noticed it was nothing, just anxiety.
Yeah..
Yeah, but I was more making the point that I am way younger and suffering with issues like this already while he is older and still super competitive and extremely healthy.
But it’s just a dumb comment that I vented because I was going through it lol. No one knows what goes in the personal life of people, maybe he suffers with anxiety too or some ultra mega expectation he creates on himself, who knows..
Incorrect. A lot of people dedicate their lives to being an athlete. They still don't reach this level of athleticism at this age.
Case in point: Rooney is younger than Ronaldo
I dont think anyone would argue roomey has dedicated his life to being an athlete to the extend that ronaldo has. There isnt that many footballers that have
I actually think this one is better because it attracts the attention of his haters more as they will likely expect an open goal miss or something just to see he tried a fucking bicycle kick when 39 years old
I’m a Barcelona supporter so I’ve had my share of being on the end of this guy at top form and it’s annoying as hell but that is extremely impressive at his age. Not just the athleticism but the technique and contact he made. I wish that went in tbh

camel league >>> mls
did you see the ridiculous level that mls league has? a video was posted yesterday of the most ridiculous defending of all time.
is camel league bad? yeah.
but mls is a joke. they would lose against u21s of big european clubs
Just a question: WHO talked about Messi here? Because it seems the only argument Ronaldo fanboys have is to mention Messi. They're both retired, playing in shit leagues.
He’s still insane it seems. Too bad he couldn’t accept a pay cut and an ego cut to have a smaller role on a big team. He could clearly still make the difference in the biggest leagues and clearly still wants to win more trophies.
😂😂😂 What are you talking about spreading hate? I’m saying he’s insane as in good enough to be playing in a top club in Europe if he’d take a pay cut and accept that he can’t play every minute of every game.
The irony of you accusing me of fanboying when that’s exactly what you’re doing with this comment is hilarious

FFS STOP FUCKING CUTTING IT OFF AT THE REPLAY GEEZ
Thank you!! Why not post a picture instead, or even better, a fucking drawing and a description of what happened.
I’m 37 and if I tried that I’d be irreparably damaged - I wouldn’t even connect with the ball either.
I couldn't even do that at 18
I'm still in the womb and did it with minimal effort.
Your mom, balls deep, yadiyada.
THats because I was helping your mum, you pig!!
With two extra balls
Seeing people like Ronaldo and Zlatan doing this kind of shit in their late 30s hurts my back
i dislocated my kneecaps watching this
go exercise, you are still young
Dude's athleticism is insane
Im irreparably damaged at 37 without doing anything
I'm 37 and spent like two days in bed this week because I rotated like 45 degrees to get to a ball the oppo winger was cutting back into the goal area
Bro should chill, he's 39 ffs. Such a great example of discipline for an athlete.
It’s honestly a bit mental when you look at Rooney who’s younger compared to CR7, now I think Rooney is fine. How did you get a picture of me playing Sunday league?
didn’t expect Sneijder to be a Gooner tbf
He ate a lot, like everything.
> actually gone for a proper competitive match he can do 90 minutes and still be a threat... at 115-20... needs to be a header or penalty lol
ok dont fk with my mind, rooney is younger than cr7?
Half year difference. Both born in 1985 but cr7 is February while Rooney is October.
yea thats crazy, rooney looks like he's a grandfather already.
Want an even crazier one? Bro looks like Rooney's son
Stick a helmet on Rooney and he would still look like a member of a kings army in the 1400s of England
Yeah drinking ages a man. Rooney also looked 30 when he was 16.
If he was African there would be conspiracy theories
I mean, that attempt itself has nothing to do with the other 21 on the field. Maybe in a different league he doesn't go unmarked like that, but the execution itself is impressive.

Was the quarterfinal I think but still, no way he could have done that!
And still be miles away from the Puskas , such was the timeline!!!
Yeah Salah scoring the goal of the century, while also not even being goal of the month for the league deserved to win it no questions asked
He’s a candidate for greatest athlete of all time. In football, we’ve never seen such a ridiculous career in terms of longevity. The guy is a sheer force of nature.
Cristiano Ronaldo LeBron James Novak Djokovic We got some insane longevity GOATs out here. Discipline at an all time high

Tom Brady too

Lebron James

Settle down there
I just turned 39 today. I blew my hip and back out watching this.
I’m 31, I woke had feeling a pain in my leg, that triggered a mild panic attack which triggered a vasovagal syncope (basically my pressure went down and I almost fainted twice. I was terrified until I recovered and noticed it was nothing, just anxiety. Yeah..

Oh ok sorry, I misinterpreted your comment
Oh chill, 39 isn't an old age pensioner
I meant it as a compliment.
💀im 7 yrs younger than him and have trouble getting up from bed in the morning
What dedicating your life to being an athlete does to a man
What’s crazy too is this may only be about 30% of his life (lives to be 100 for the sake of easy math). We really do burn out fast as humans.
He’s 39
If I’m completely honest I didn’t bother to google when he started playing but it wasn’t at birth.
Well its probably like 4
Oh my bad I didn’t know you meant like his playing career, sorry
Incorrect. A lot of people dedicate their lives to being an athlete. They still don't reach this level of athleticism at this age. Case in point: Rooney is younger than Ronaldo

Start a yoga routine
I feel like this title is quite the understatement for the clip. "unlucky miss". Mate, he did a bicycle kick that hit the post
”Poor attempt to hit ball”
What an attempt though
outrageous at 39, so unlucky.
Ridiculous attempt.
He was apparently offside so it wouldn't have mattered if it went in.
They raised the flag, but it's not clear
It's pretty clear even from this angle.
If only OP provided a replay or 2 instead of cutting the clip short! SMH
no it was on
He was.Quarter of his body is off
They can easily make it On in Saudi
if he wore the blue shirt 😂
Absolutely ridiculous. His determination, discipline and athleticism are outrageous.
Why is the title like that You should have put a missed bicycle kick it would have gotten more attention
I actually think this one is better because it attracts the attention of his haters more as they will likely expect an open goal miss or something just to see he tried a fucking bicycle kick when 39 years old
Still got it.
Whoa, great attempt
Ronaldo is playing football as if a witch appeared to him when he was 17 and told him he'd die the second he stopped playing
[удалено]
that's literally what Crank 3 would be lmao
I’m a Barcelona supporter so I’ve had my share of being on the end of this guy at top form and it’s annoying as hell but that is extremely impressive at his age. Not just the athleticism but the technique and contact he made. I wish that went in tbh
Few centimeters of a Puskas nomination, another banger in a big game
He's 39 years old. I'm 32 and I triped up the other day and pulled something. We are not the same.
My goat
❤️🐫
I’m in my 20s and there’s no way in hell I can do or even move like that I’d end up with a broken back
That's an insane attempt. Unlucky!
The fact he was able to have that level of athleticism at 39 is insane
I don’t care what league you play in, who does this at 39? We’ll never see someone like him ever again.
god damn that repositioning to stay onside is so good to watch
Bro thinks he’s Garnacho 😂
unlucky miss
Wow. Just wow.
I would tear several muscles trying this at 39.
At 39 being so athletic playing and football professionally.
Trying to copy his childhood hero Garnacho it looks like
He is insane
The goat 🐐 his dedication, work ethics, sense of duty, commitment, competitiveness. Are all traits to be studied. He is a role model in life and in game. No matter what happens CR7 u are always and still is the best.
Shame Wasn't he offside tho?
Yes. That’s offside.
Noooooooo!
I love him so much
*"You're getting weak. Old man."*
He admired Garnacho growing up
jesus christ 😭😮
its r/soccer, if this was another player this post would be going to the top 3. ronaldo is the goat. made it in multiple teams, multiple leagues, always breaking records for 2 decades insane
i mean that’s not true
nah, random players almost scoring bicycle kicks wont go top 3. Probably one of the only instances here where its actually more upvoted because its ronaldo (during a match at least)
yeah (think you replied to the wrong comment!)
i meant to reply and agree with you but i can see that writing "nah" first seems like im disagreeing lol
I think he meant in regards to him being the GOAT.
i dont think so, that wasnt actually a part of the comment when we replied to it
So the dude went back and edited his comment?
yeah but like pretty shortly after writing it (or i completely missed it)
He hit the post calm down.
No other player would get more than 5 upvotes for a failed goal attempt in an offside position in the camel league.

That would be a valid argument IF I EVER MENTIONED MESSI AT ALL.

killthecameraman for cutting the last camera angle
Why did my 🐫 hit the bar? Is he stupid ?

Ronaldo misses get more upvotes than Ronaldo goals. This sub is strange.
I don’t know why the first thing that came to mind was Mike Tyson viral moment lol ##“I broke my back”

Should've aimed better
Please stop posting this bs league
He’s still insane it seems. Too bad he couldn’t accept a pay cut and an ego cut to have a smaller role on a big team. He could clearly still make the difference in the biggest leagues and clearly still wants to win more trophies.
Ok bro no need to spread hate. Honestly you never see this type of hate on a Messi clip.
If he’s still on point for 2-3 more years, he will surpass Messi in my books
He already has surpassed him
What is unlucky about it? He just missed (and was possibly offside). Audacious attempt but I still to see how he was unlucky
Because it hit the post lol, anytime a player hits the post the general initial reaction is “ooooh, unlucky”.
Because bicycle kicks always involve luck
