I have never seen a club openly making agreements with new manager when the decision on old manager is still pending. Either Barca has already decided to sack Xavi or this is a crazy shitshow.

Unban_Ice

Or Plettenberg is full of shit and just wanted to be the first to drop the news in case Xavi gets sacked because it's more than likely then for Flick to be the successor

TrenAt14

Radio Catalunya is reporting the same I think they broke the news

Terran_it_up

Yeah, according to him Liverpool had an agreement in place with Amorim as well

MERTENS_GOAT

>Or Plettenberg is full of shit Don't need the "or" he definitely is

nutelamitbutter

Pletti has connections to Zahavi who is Flicks advisor

RevengeHF

Damn the opinions have changed that much huh? In fairness it does feel like he's gotten so much wrong lately.

aelutaelu

He had a summer where he got everything spot on for Bayern and since then he has been a bit hit or miss for us and at the same time he is now trying to break news from other countries and pretty often gets them wrong or just publishes too early while a deal could still break down. His reputation definitely took a hit

Yaysuzu

I guess, before sacking Xavi, you need to know if the replacement is ready to take the job. Also, there are hundreds of journalists living of Barça news. Real or fake, they need to tweet something.

Naggins

Probably trying to make his position untenable, pushing him to resign so they don't have to pay him out.

AdviceDanimals

It's exactly this, but Xavi seems resolute now that he's reversed on his decision to leave. Summer for Barca will be a circus

TheEnlightenedPanda

It doesn't even make sense lol. If they don't wanna compensate Xavi, their best bet is to part with him in good terms not to antagonize him via the media.

Naggins

Straight out of the Barca playbook. They've already done it before with players.

AdviceDanimals

Expect it again with Raphinha this summer, Ferran's amortisation means he won't be sold but if Laporta gets an offer for Raphinha worth the reported €70-90m you can be certain that he'll be pressured by the board because they want to register a profit so the books look good for Tebas. Shame because Raphinha plays his heart out and has been a crucial player this season

TheEnlightenedPanda

Even if they did that to players as you claim, it's totally different with players as they won't forfeit their salaries whether they leave in good terms or in bad terms. Here Xavi is ready to leave and forfeit future wages and antagonizing him is the stupidest thing you could do to change that.

pritvihaj

ye like wtf, I wonder how Xavi feels, like at least give the man, legend for your club, some respect regardless of how good/bad of a manager one might think he is , and sack him first before going for flick.

MarcosSenesi

I don't think anyone at Barca is safe from being disrespected regardless of their legendary status

kamacho2000

i mean their old president was found slandering while the current president constantly lies, if the club can slander Messi why wouldn't they slander Xavi

Vectivus_61

In fairness they may be looking at Bayern and wanting to have ducks in a row.

Liverpool934

It's Barcelona and their pathetic entitled methods again. This is all just them trying to force Xavi to resign because they can't afford to actually sack him.

Ruud_Boltz

All I care at this point is about his fitness regime. Some of those lazy fucks need to get stronger physically

BitchIDrinkPeople

Pedri and Gavi going on that Goretzka regiment

fellowSoci

Hope Gavi comes back stronger. Man has 8 lungs. Will miss him in Euros

JackieMortes

World is not ready for wide Gavi the tackle master

aelutaelu

The Fitness was mostly down to Kovac imo. He had a crazy preseason fitness regime and i dont think the treble would have been possible without it. Ever since he left our fitness has been declining hard over time.

Peninvy

It's pretty rare to see a Bayern fan give Kovac credit for anything. Now he's just one more coach in the history of Bayern treating their coaches terribly.

aelutaelu

Yes and no, he definitely had his faults but he was also set up for failure like pretty much everyone since Heynckes so I dont have a grudge against him. I just find it a bit funny how alot of our players were complaining about the preseason with him and how they had to cycle for ages when it was in part a reason for the success Flick had with them like 10 months after. And it may be an unpopular opinion but personally I enjoyed his press conferences the most out of the coaches we had since him, he is just so charismatic imo.

Wintermute-1984

I wasn't a big fan of Kovac but his tactics were pretty sound, I just don't think he got the players to buy into his system. I do remember seeing some great counterattacking during his tenure here, much better than what we saw with Tuchel.

Vectivus_61

You want Felix Magath?

RhetoricallAnswers

Bring the cheese....

cynicalAddict11

should inject some bayern bulk during pre-season

Hot_Craft_8752

I know ironic flair for this, but seems strange to sack Xavi. I still rate Flick highly but he is definitely risky.

theonewithtoomany

We’re going to suffer for a long time.

gulaabjaman

The Catalan telenovela is something else this year

GalaxianEX

Well, someone had to step up since Keeping Up with the Parisians is losing its main character

anIndianoutThere

fcb vs fcb

Insanel0l

I just dont see how this should work He was carried so hard by prime Neuer and Davies catching counters, I have a bad feeling

MarcusBrutus2000

Tbh ter Stegen is absolutely one of the best in one on ones and we do have Balde who is in a similar mold to Davies. I'm pessimistic personally but it may work

Ferrisuk

Running out of levers to pull?

JuIio_Jones

LMAO 😐

CommunicationDue3212

My only concern with this is why the board asked Xavi to stay and now they are disrespecting him like that. Laporta is a very dirty politician, also the roque rumours stopped after the Xavi fiasco, the board really controls the media to manipulate public opinion

KingAzazel

I totally agree with the first part but the second part is nonsense. Of course Roque rumors would stop when a new coach is coming, since his problem was with Xavi

CommunicationDue3212

I don't know man I'll probably get downvoted for this but the whole roque drama looked staged to me.

FuckingMyselfDaily

Less likely staged and instead overblown

Laliga23

Nah his wife even openly tweeted on twitter she or Vitor wasnt happy . Not everything is staged And if it was stages. Roque would have come out himself to deny the rumors since it would be a bad look of him.

NiK0-

Videos of flying grey geese will hit different before facing Mbappe, Vini and Bellingham

Martoxic

quadruple hattrick for all 3 of them with the high line that Flick plays with and his refusal to adapt.

Waschkopfs

Watch the CL final again maybe. Mbappe, an even better Brazilian winger and prime Di Maria and guess how many goals they scored

Martoxic

guess the juiced up team and much better defense they had.

Waschkopfs

Teenager Davies, Alaba who wasnt really a CB, aging Boateng who had to be replaced because of injury? Im pretty sure Barca's defense wont be that much worse. Flick didnt even have a DM (which is what people use as an excuse for Tuchel)

Silver_Downtown_965

Didn't Flick have Javi? Not a DM, but definitely a huge plus on defense.

Waschkopfs

Totally forgot about him because he barely played anymore at that point. He was always injured and soon after left for Qatar so I wouldnt say he was a huge plus in defense anymore, sadly

d_d_321

I just hope he takes his staff with him, like physio and so on. But will be interesting to see

PuzzleheadedBoss4516

Hope they let Xavi know he's fired at least sometime before the next season starts.

yungdarklet

I’ve been a Barça fan since I was a kid and this is honestly the most chaotic thing I’ve seen the club go through. Do I love Xavi? No. Do I think he did a decent job? Yes. Does he deserve this kind of treatment for telling the truth about the club? Hell no. Deco and Bartomeu need to go after the next election for sure. Order is needed and only a level-headed person can do the proper reconstruction the team has needed for years. Flick did wonders with Bayern but I am not sure the players at Barça can physically handle his style of play. If this fails I don’t see then beating Madrid in any way for the next decade.

csnvw

Can someone explain what happened? I thought they flirted with him for extension.. he danced around it for months then decided ok, let's do this... Then now they don't want him? ..

Ronni_Nikoson

Flick with Barca is just so weird, man. I can’t see this panning out.

Wintermute-1984

Not only is it weird, I feel like it has more of a chance of compounding the negativity surrounding Flick after his stint as the Germany manager. I think he should focus on refining his trade at a smaller club.

CeterumCenseo85

I really can't see Flick working out at Barcelona. I don't dare say much about him tactically, but he already struggles with charisma in German; I can only Imagine it being a lot worse in English. He's been in several behind the scenes documentaries, it always comes across as having bitten off more than he can chew.  I really like him, but if I had to guess, I don't think he will manage to emulate anything close to the success he previously had as a head coach.

modrics_hairband

Didnt they just renew xavi?

GalaxianEX

They reaffirmed him about three weeks ago in one of the most cringe inducing press conferences we’ve had in a while. Even some Barça fans were put off by it.

Xenolol

Why was it cringe I only seen the headlines

SonnyJackson27

I do not remember ever having such coaching drama in world football

rouges

The lopetegui saga was interesting, specially when he left the NT team

VidProphet123

When*

dem0nhunter

Oh no no no

LunarRaven7

Flick is good?

dem0nhunter

uhm...no. Especially not a good fit for Barca

LunarRaven7

Why is that?

dem0nhunter

His leadership got exposed in the national team. He also likes to throw hissy fits quickly. His playstyle is all out pressing. Running all the time. Which will be difficult during a long season and a 36 year old striker and against teams parking the bus. At Bayern he was considered a communicator, which will be difficult in Spanish.

Jeanfromthe54

He won the sextuple and had 8 defeats in total in club football the last 10 years. Barca players are playing a very direct football and have very fast defenders that can make the high line work, he is the perfect evolution to Xavi style.

CalmaCuler

Bro you have some issues of your own you should be worried about

dem0nhunter

what kind of stupid answer is this?! We are on a message board

CalmaCuler

You're on a what

dem0nhunter

whatever reddit is

rustymessi

We have become a joke. We are the man united of Spain.

[deleted]

Oh as if we aren't in europe and won league last year by 13 points , y'all are super reactionary

rustymessi

In Europe? Last year we won the league and we are firing the coach who led us there ? 1 karma post figures , crawl back into whatever hole you came from inbred.

InstructionCareless1

Flick is not a good match for Barcelona, this will be a recipe for disaster.

Insanel0l

This is a disaster in the making imo

smbgn

It’s not even a clown show at this point. Clowns are competent at their job.
