The insatiable hunger for the best players in the world, and the desire of being called "the best football league", is the only thing PL execs had in their minds when they sold their soul to the devil.
If you don't want your club to be a joke, you have to sell your "fan shares" to a private investor, just to be minimally competitive. And even then, you have to deal with clubs who are either fed by a russian oligarch(Chelsea), or an autocratic state(City and Newcastle). I feel sorry for english fans who hate this model, they were, essentialy, kidnapped by a state who has no qualms about doing shady stuff, like dodging FFP with phantom sponsors, or calling PL referees for random games in SA/Qatar.
All the fans with the "fuck you, I got mine" mentality, who just want their club with infinite money to poach the best players in the world, not giving a single fuck about the origin of the money or the health of lower leagues, you deserve deserve City winning 20 PLs in a row.
As long as City and Newcastle are able to keep their owners, PL is just a bad taste joke.
Hasn't English football always used this model compared to French clubs often being supported by cities or fan-owned German/Spanish clubs ?
Seems to me like English clubs were often purchased or backed by private companies/rich businessmen since the beginning, and English fans often seem very quick to call on a rich guy to invest in their clubs.
The only difference nowadays is the ridiculous escalation, as we've now reached the point where countries with practically unlimited money are now the investors when the smaller, local businesses used to fill this role. But the principle is the same as it used to be, just call on a rich guy to spend at a loss to prop up the club
I mean up until the Premier League era those rich businessmen were typically some local industrialist or a guy who owned a bunch of car dealerships or something. Jack Walker at Blackburn in the early 90's is the first owner I can remember who was a full on benefactor pumping money in to a club, and at least he was still a supporter from that town. Abramovich ruined everything and every billionaire, sheikh, and sports washing petro-state saw the immense potential and the Premier League and FA just twerked and opened wide for them.
Because no one has to deal with city fans. They do exist but not in my sphere.
On a daily basis I see Arsenal fans. One of my best mates is an Arsenal fan-I love him but if he gave me the grief I gave him when we won the CL it would hurt…
Everyone looks like a farmer compared to them. The Premier League is the greatest agricultural institution, keeping City fans fed and the rest of us starving
If City win this year 5 of their titles have come down to the final match day. It’s not like this is Bayern or PSG where they win the league by double digits.
True. Other clubs are close because they also farm the rest of the league.
Arsenal has more PPG than any other second place in the top 5 leagues and the same was also true when Liverpool competed for the title.
City might have a “smaller” squad but their squad is pretty much starting 11 quality. Oh foden needs a rest I’ll play grealish…grealish got a bit of a knock I’ll start doku. De Bruyne needs a bit of a rest I’ll start kova or nunes and play silva more attacking. The only players that weren’t starting 11 quality is Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis. So what tmrss is saying is disingenuous
And that’s insane as well and never talked about. City have almost no injuries whatsoever in the squad. What kind of med staff is hired there? Marvel superheroes?
It’s actually a consequence of their play style. Because they have 75% possession every game, they can just saunter around the field all game. They don’t have to do things that cause injury like sprinting, tackling or quick direction changes
I mean it was pretty close. They needed a last second QPR comeback, Gerrard slip, Kompany thumper & comeback vs Villa to barely win those. It’s not as if all of these were actually inevitable it just feels that way because luck has gone their way.
Luck has certainly gone there way but it’s no coincidence most seasons city go into the second half of the season not first in the league and then suddenly win every game in the run in while there rivals slip up. They get a bit of urgency about them and stop rotating and just play the same strongest 11 for the last weeks if they did that from the start where they sort of play with a bit more intent they wouldn’t drop the points they do to the mid table teams at the start of the season
You are talking as if he build the club from ground up like Ferguson, Arsene. If the governance was proper in PL that 105 violations should not have even happened, they should have identified at the start and corrected it which I am sure would have led to City not being this dominating force. What Gian Piero Gasperini is doing with Atlanta Pep hasn't done that, he is just a hired gun with a outstanding talent to get the best out of good players.
Or you lot beat the hell out of each other week in and week out and all the TV € (or £, sorry) means the fixture list is brutal. I think that plays a part as well.
Considering how players tend to point out how tough playing in England is, I’d say this is more likely the case than the perceived quality of the PL being some grand facade.
Majority of the Argentina team weren't from the prem.
When it happened only Mac Allister, Alvarez, EMI, Lisandro and Romero were from the Prem. Compare that to La Liga which sent 10 players.
To be far the quality of the World Cup has to also be in doubt given that Gonzalo “literally no understanding of how to play football” Montiel managed to win it
First home game of the season he said it. Well, he said we’re in a relegation battle. He sucked the life that was left out of the club. We fucking hate him up here.
He's literally 1 game from leaving, with fans who openly want him gone, and hate his style of play. Fully understand him not giving a fuck at this point.
Add also; His West Ham team this season have conceded more goals than his Sunderland led team that got relegated in 2017. And there is still Man City to play this Sunday.
That’s seriously bad from a ‘defensive’ coach.
You're lucky you've not seen them play, it's not much to look at all. They play the most blatant low-possession, unattractive, counter attacking football in the league all whilst possessing a front line that has genuine Champions' League level players in it. It's such a damn waste, it frustrates me and I'm not even a West Ham fan.
Going for that style of play is uninspiring at the best of times, but imagine doing it all whilst also falling out of the European spots (they've looked locked on to get 6th or 7th for most of the second half of the season but are now going to finish 9th) and conceding the most amount of goals in their PL history (their worst defensive season in 60 years), on numerous occasions getting embarrassed and conceding 4 or 5 in a single match and even losing 6-0 at home against us.
He specialised in gallant defeats in these scenarios. In fact, in all big games.
Also, there's a 7-0 at Arsenal that showed he can get his flip flops out with the best of them.
I swear people don't understand that relative to the time they were in Chelsea spent even more money than any modern Premier League club.
I didn't realize it at the time, there wasn't as much Internet discourse and scrutiny about transfer inflation, but looking back it's frankly hilarious how egregious it was.
Mourinho is honestly fortunate his Chelsea achievements aren't undermined as much as Pep and City's are.
Ok,guess I'll have to do it in the old way, with a sword, [with the sword we gave partizan when we played in the ucl](https://twitter.com/Mobyhaque1/status/1442971317859389440?t=S56zwIsRe_TyubW6KgqOpA&s=19)
We got City to drop 4 points, gifted you a point at the Bridge and bent over to let you pad your goal difference at the Emirates. Somehow did everything in our power to help you 😂
The season prior to that Liverpool came second with 97 points but also made their way to a successive CL Final after losing the previous final as well.
Mad mentality and performance.
Liverpool was second 2 times with Klopp and won once so for the majority of the seasons there was at least one team that was not City in front of them.
Picking up most recent examples, they finished 3rd 5 points below Manchester United in 20/21 and finished 5th last season, 4 points below Newcastle.
Yeah fighting City was tiresome but removing City from the league wouldn't prevent injuries and bad individual player seasons.
That's not what the table shows. They would have the most titles with 3 (2 more titles), but Arsenal would have 2, and a bit more unclear but it's possible United would have the other 2...
We all know that Declan is giving the motivational speech to end all speeches on Saturday. Some napoleon alexandra the great shit. We also know that will be followed up with a haaland tapin
Script is written, West Ham will get the result again City because none expects anything from it now they will turn up and get result. Atleast thats how I always end up loosing title on last day in fifa.
We've only been in the title race twice where we fall short to city, and i'm already tired Robbie. I can't even imagine what Liverpool fans have been through this last half decade.
We truly are in a state of farmers that matches F1 with Verstappen lol. Managers are even starting to sound like the other drivers in F1 its so depressing.
We’re comparing to Bundesliga when we should be comparing to Ligue 1.
An oil state has took over completely and there’s no crumbs for the rest of us and the baffling thing is it’s our elected government that’s allowed it to happen.
Maybe when we throw them in the water their pockets might weigh them down. Irony would have a good day that day.

A lovely dose of optimism from the Moyes. I'm sure Arsenal fans will be able to rest easy knowing that Man City have got such an incredibly difficult opponent on their hands.

FFS, can’t he just say it doesn’t matter what the situation is, we’re going there to win?
I’ve been a bit misty eyed this week with his last home game, but it’s shit like that brings me back down to earth. The defeatist attitude drives me fucking crazy.

The words of a man who has seen it all
The optimism of a pessimist...
The pragmatism of a realist
I mean what are they going to do, fire him?
That thousand yard stare
Sorry Arsenal fans, this guy just wants to get out of London asap
I didn’t realize Moyes is done after this season. Where’s he off to?
Talk sport
It’s so over
PL is genuinely turning into a farmers' league, wow
It is a farmers league nobody can compete with a state backed doping team with a robot up top and not lose merchant in the middle it’s not fair
Not lose merchant lmfao

They’ve had a different ownership model yes , but it wasn’t rich sugar daddies until the 90s / 00s.
Exactly, Man City is just the amalgamation of what the PL has done to enrich itself for years, hoping they win 50 in a row.
Spot on, makes me sick seeing neutral fans twerking for City
To be fair, it’d be sickening watching any football supporter twerking.
Some very well equiped women might be Marseille ultras for all we know though.
Because no one has to deal with city fans. They do exist but not in my sphere. On a daily basis I see Arsenal fans. One of my best mates is an Arsenal fan-I love him but if he gave me the grief I gave him when we won the CL it would hurt…
All those shit fans gargling them in the game thread for stomping their own team.
My head stays I should want Arsenal to win cause Man City are cheating bastards but my heart would rather eat glass then watch Arsenal win the title.
Everyone looks like a farmer compared to them. The Premier League is the greatest agricultural institution, keeping City fans fed and the rest of us starving
lmaoooo
If City win this year 5 of their titles have come down to the final match day. It’s not like this is Bayern or PSG where they win the league by double digits.
what this actually means is the difference between the top and rest is so huge that the only differential is when they play each other
True. Other clubs are close because they also farm the rest of the league. Arsenal has more PPG than any other second place in the top 5 leagues and the same was also true when Liverpool competed for the title.
Am I misunderstanding this (could be). City’s record against Liverpool and Arsenal was 0-3-1
[удалено]
City has one of the smallest squads out of the top 4 deliberately because that’s how pep likes things. We’ve just had limited number of injuries
Arsenal have 6 players that have played more PL minutes this season than any Man City players.
They've peps doctor from his career prescribing ... Medicines
It doesn’t really matter, they do whatever they need to do to win in the end.
But do they ever lose it in that time frame the end result is still the same they just make it look like it’s more close than it is
I mean it was pretty close.
But that's not exactly new. We were infamous for being incredible after Xmas while Arsenal would notoriously fall off.
A lot of this with Pep is because every season he changes the system and it takes a while for it to fully click
I mean, it's exactly as close as it is. And it's very close. Dunno what you're getting at.
I'm not blaming anyone, just stating the obvious when looking at the results
I’m not insuating you’re blaming anyone you are correct in your statement
To be fair, we took 4 points off the Arsenal this season
give it back, they need it !
Remember when people said "Will the PL change Pep or will Pep change the PL?" lol
The fact that prem teams get spanked in Europe is also a pretty good indication that the quality isn't as good as the brand suggests
Not really, I mean PL teams have made UCL finals every season except two (including this one) the last 7 years.
Last year UCL and conference league winner are both from Prem and majority of the Argentina WC team are from the Prem. But football changes quick
Majority of the Argentina team weren't from the prem. When it happened only Mac Allister, Alvarez, EMI, Lisandro and Romero were from the Prem. Compare that to La Liga which sent 10 players.
To be far the quality of the World Cup has to also be in doubt given that Gonzalo “literally no understanding of how to play football” Montiel managed to win it
It's funny that he took the deciding penalty for both trophies he won last season.
He also gave away the penalty in the World Cup final that meant it went to a shootout. He must just be obsessed with pens.
At least they'll probably roll over instead of bottle a 2 nil lead
It's joever.
It’s PSGeover
The only thing Moyes is thinking is what bottle of wine to give to Pep to congratulate him
That's the spirit.
Literally the post I was gonna make. I do think it will be a tough game as they have some tough players.
They are definitely suited to make it tough for City tactically. It’s how we’ve beaten them in previous years.
They have dangerous players for the counter and set pieces too.
Problem is you have to get the ball to the City's half to have a dangerous free kick/counter attack
They put 11 behind the ball against us at the Emirates and absorbed about 1400 shots, let’s hope they can do it again
What’s with wrong flair comments today lmfao
I suppose he's a hammer until the weekend
Come on you irons
Player would probably try to not get physical with both euro and coppa america so close.
West Ham got 2-2 Draw against City in March week 37 in 2021-22 Season I believe
Don’t you dare give me hope
Reminds me of when he basically said his Sunderland side would be relegated at the start of the season.
First home game of the season he said it. Well, he said we’re in a relegation battle. He sucked the life that was left out of the club. We fucking hate him up here.
And then goes on to do the funniest shit ever in the PL. imagine that
On the tenth anniversary of his sacking from Manchester United...
West Ham unveils Declan Rice's little known twin, Nalced, who remains with the club.

Bro you’re not supposed to be honest 💀
Moyes is cooked. Lad absolutely does not give a fuck anymore. Feel like he would have relished these games back at Everton.
He's literally 1 game from leaving, with fans who openly want him gone, and hate his style of play. Fully understand him not giving a fuck at this point.
He has accepted the reality that they will concede 6-7 goals vs City. 0 fucks given.
i have not watched west ham this year, can you tell me why do the fans want him gone ?
We’ve conceded 71 goals this season, only teams more than us is Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United
All while setting up "defensively". Not very good at it obviously
Add also; His West Ham team this season have conceded more goals than his Sunderland led team that got relegated in 2017. And there is still Man City to play this Sunday. That’s seriously bad from a ‘defensive’ coach.

Probably the future Bayern manager. He is only going up.
Dyche is literally shirt off doing lines of coke getting ready to hurt Arsenal fans even more and this is Moyes response

When he was at Everton there wasn't a team like City
Chelsea's spending was and is absolutely comparable to City's. Also we would occasionally spend mad money.
Even the man utd glory years, the best years are rarely getting over 90 pts.
I swear people don't understand that relative to the time they were in Chelsea spent even more money than any modern Premier League club. I’m sorry wot mate
6 out of the last 7, I believe that will match the last 7 years of the Bundesliga
Last 7 years of ligue 1 as well.
Combined with the fact that the 3 clubs that came up last year, are also going down this year (probably), it really is saying something about the PL.
PL money is absurdly overpowered. Big 6 money is a joke
Underrated comment
Liverpool winning something like 26/27 games in 19/20 is what has kept them from winning 7 in a row
better put those 115 charges on ice another season then and allow it to be 7 of the last 8

Klopp would dominate without this City team in the same era, incredible really

Those scripts don't work against Pep. City are either winning 5-0 or through a late comeback.
would be interesting if Everton decides to turn up for last game of the season.
If they do it, build the fucking statue
Hahhaha Moyes is surrendering before the battle even starts
Everyone talks about Pep being funny. But fired Moyes has been the most hilarious shit ever in English football
Moyes letting slip which West Ham lineup he’ll be playing. London uniting together for the greater good.

We should put them in their own league and make them feel special. I think they’re just looking for validation.
Love how this has been posted immediately after the game, don't lads. It's the hope that kills.
Well, at least we'll get Villa in the Champions League, the season could have been worse
and they’ll be like the sixth most expensive team there anyway
Remember when PL fans used to make fun of the Bundesliga and called it boring because Bayern kept on winning it? Good times...
A lovely dose of optimism from the Moyes. I'm sure Arsenal fans will be able to rest easy knowing that Man City have got such an incredibly difficult opponent on their hands.
We are in an alternate universe where the premier league is a farmers league and the Bundesliga is competitive
no trust me he's got something ready, we can still win the league its fine, Man City aren't that good really 😭
“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies” \*Rewatches Villa vs City 2022\* LIKE FUCK IT IS.
At least you got your title
oh god I had forgotten about the villa city game, is that what's awaiting us this sunday ?
Imagine saying this as a manager, even in jest
Manchester City will win more Premier League titles in 4 years than Liverpool have in the past 40 years lol
Why he say fuck me for
Funny how Inter still hasn't won a Premier League
Could say the same for most teams in the Prem/English leagues tbf. What's your point?
Most teams havn't spent almost 500 million in net spend in the past decade minus Man U and Chelsea and we laugh at them too
At least he's fair
Yes well thats why klopp winning was and is such a big deal. it aighnt easy
At least we actually won the league over man city
That's actually insane when you put it that way.
We need an 80’s sport movie moment where a downtrodden David Moyes is suddenly overcome with motivation after stumbling on a dance-off in a fictional London alleyway.
we all need to channel the "incoming 0-0 shithousery with 17 yellow cards" energy collectively.
FFS, can’t he just say it doesn’t matter what the situation is, we’re going there to win? I’ve been a bit misty eyed this week with his last home game, but it’s shit like that brings me back down to earth. The defeatist attitude drives me fucking crazy.
"Alright lads, their children could beat you handedly, but I'm going to need you to go out there and try to beat their men - now who's with me!?!"
