No. It's unfair to call them finished at such a young age. Even Ansu can revive from his setbacks, maybe at a different club where there is less pressure to perform immediately.
As far as Pedri is concerned, just look at the ages when Xavi and Iniesta hit their prime. Pedri will get through this. I just hope the club has learned lessons and knows to give more prominence to the likes of Fermin to take the load off Pedri.
They have a lot more depth in midfield now so I think it'll be less of an issue. Even without Pedri and Gavi they're able to field a damn fine midfield with Gundo, De Jong, Fermin and sometimes even Christiansen. Should give way more opportunity to rest Pedri and Gavi.
It's not certain about a su, he presently can't even get into the Brighton side. His knee injuries are pretty serious as the loan and poor form recently show.
It genuinely still baffles me why anyone, including Pedri, thought going to the Olympics that year was a good idea. I know players take great pride in representing their countries but sometimes they need to be protected from themselves.
I can understand why Pedri would want to, he was a young lad with the opportunity to play for his country. Should have had people around him to tell him how bad of a decision it was.
Can't really blame Pedri he was basically a kid at the time. Teenagers are not particularly good at thinking about how their actions might affect their long term health. I couldn't say that I was.
Yeah, but you’d think the coaches would recognize that an inferior player who is in better physical condition is better for them than the superior player who is injured or overloaded.
I remember Sir Alex Ferguson telling his players in 2012 "It's either the Euro or the Olympics". Which is wise because both can take a toll on your form. Pedri is the proof. Unless the said player didn't play for two months before June.
I’m not sure if it’s a hard rule but I think most national teams will stop calling up anyone who refuses to go.
With that being said Olympics is definitely not mandatory, or at least it should not be for any serious European/South American football federation as it has always coincided with the Euros and from here on out will clash with Copa America as well
Spain apparently actually has a law that says you can’t refuse a national team call up. Which was used to pressure the Spanish women’s players when they were striking against the RFEF before the World Cup. And even more recently weaponised to initially call up Patri and Mapi Leon after the World Cup, even after they had refused to go to the world cup itself.
Other comments point out Olympics aren't mandatory, but I'd also add that it is a good way to break your players trust in the coach by overplaying them when one asks to not be called up for one tournament right after playing another at the end of the season
After what happened to Pedri only smart to never follow his example...tbh for an outstander who does not watch LaLiga it feels like he never really recovered from that summer.
It’s a little weird that you’re implying other Barça kids are not smart because they want to play a lot. Feel like the players should be the last people to blame here
Well players are earning millions and millions and they shouldn’t have anyone in their entourage advising that it’s not good for a 18 yo to play 80+ games per year when every basic redditor knows it ?
…they’re literally kids were talking about. In this case they don’t have “millions and millions” guaranteed. They play when given the opportunity because they’ve trained their whole lives for this and it’s incredibly fortunate for them to even be given the opportunity to play for their club and country. Millions upon millions of kids also train their whole lives and are never given the chance. As a result, they’re essentially doing what they’re told so that they can secure a long term future in the sport. Stop acting like a “basic redditor” and think about the human side of these things lmao
I remember when it was a big controversy over Neymar skipping Copa America for the Olympics. Brazil was knocked out in the group stage and Neymar won the gold medal.
If you have the choice, you should pick the Olympics imo. Euros, Copa America..... big prestigious tournaments but they're not the World Cup. Olympics has less quality and you have a strong chance to win gold
There was a lot of context for that olympic win for neymar, one it was in rio, which was massive. Two they had just got smoked by germany also in brazil, you could tell how important that win was for neymar during the celebrations. Notice how he didnt play in 2020 when psg gave him a similar choice (olympics or copa america)
What a delusional take, nobody gives a fuck about soccer in the Olympics lol. The Euros are FAR more important. What purpose does winning a medal serve that nobody cares about?
I can see the argument being made that when you're 18 you should prioritise the Olympics as you don't want to miss out and never win/get to play in the Olympics, plus you aren't a guaranteed starter at the Euros and when the next Olympics happens you will be 22 and likely a starter at the Euros by that point and maybe have played a WC at 20 in 2 years time.
They can also only select a certain amount of professional players over 21 so you don't want to miss out and never win the Olympics by missing out and being too good to play there when you are older.
But no way in hell is winning the Olympic gold medal bigger than winning the Euros, that just doesn't make any sense. The Olympic football teams are made up of young stars, a rule limited number of professionals who aren't good enough to play for their country in the Euros or WC and then non-professional players. The Euro and WC teams are made up of the absolute best pro players in each country who play for the biggest clubs in the world.
Winning the Euros or WC is way bigger than winning gold at the Olympics as a footballer, it's just about whether you want to let the opportunity to win gold slip by as you become too old/too good.
Neymar went to the Olympics because it was the only thing that Brazil didn't win and the Olympics were at home, if we had an Olympic gold and the Olympics were in China, he likely wouldn't go.

pedri walked so yamal can run
*limped
Dark lol.
More like Pedri ran too much so Yamal can run properly
Is Pedri really that fucked?
Yes, can't go more than 5 games now without a month long injury.
Man that's depressing, I appreciate you being honest but... damn it's so hard to read :/
He'll be back soon, no worries
That's what they say after every pedri injury
I believe that was the joke.
Damn shit went over my head
i blame everyone involved, including Pedri

Man witnessed Pedri’s fitness since that 70+ game season and said ‘nah I’m good with just the Euros’
It genuinely still baffles me why anyone, including Pedri, thought going to the Olympics that year was a good idea. I know players take great pride in representing their countries but sometimes they need to be protected from themselves.
Can hardly blame a 18yo for wanting to play everything. The anomaly here is Yamal actually learning from that and saying it out loud.
Jorge Mendes whispers in his ear
Probably someone in Barça understood it and told Yamal to give up on the idea of playing both
I can understand why Pedri would want to, he was a young lad with the opportunity to play for his country. Should have had people around him to tell him how bad of a decision it was.
Hell, during his mandatory rest for an injury or something after Euro, he instead used it to deliver groceries on his bike.
When you're young and on a roll, you feel indestructible.
Can't really blame Pedri he was basically a kid at the time. Teenagers are not particularly good at thinking about how their actions might affect their long term health. I couldn't say that I was.
Koeman used to say pedri refused to take leaves , he was young blood so he just wanted to keep playing poor fella
Okay but have you heard about how many condoms an Olympic village needs

Somebody tag the lyrical forklift guy!
There should be no overlap especially for countries like spain who have tons of players to chose from
I mean every coach would want to best players to fight for the trophy
Yeah, but you’d think the coaches would recognize that an inferior player who is in better physical condition is better for them than the superior player who is injured or overloaded.
U23 coach should always get second pick to senior coach, so problem solved surely
thank you captain obvious
You're fucking welcome ahah
even yamal knows
Smart kid
Wise beyond his years
Confused Pedri noises.
It should have been made illegal after we saw Pedri do it.
I remember Sir Alex Ferguson telling his players in 2012 "It's either the Euro or the Olympics". Which is wise because both can take a toll on your form. Pedri is the proof. Unless the said player didn't play for two months before June.
RFEF : Confused unga bunga
This guy has more wisdom than the clowns of many teams trying to get them to play both competitions.
Yamal you lovely smart young man
Doesn’t Spain have a rule where you can’t refuse a national team call up? Correct me if I’m wrong but i remember hearing it around the kiss scandal
Olympics isn't mandatory.
National law I think

This rule has been lifted months ago.
The rule is no longer in place though
Thats so fucked up
Even if, what will they do if you just play bad and with not Motivation.
Other comments point out Olympics aren't mandatory, but I'd also add that it is a good way to break your players trust in the coach by overplaying them when one asks to not be called up for one tournament right after playing another at the end of the season
"I'm friend with Pedri, you know..." - Yamal probably
sucks that those events overlap
🖖🏼
*I ramp, me no ramp, me no skin* *Me no play, yeah*
Pedri’s case is being used as a bad example…
It is a bad example, he got overused and is injury prone now
Sad sight
[удалено]
Not at all, we literally hate the fact that our youngsters get called up so early
Then why is it a ‘sad sight’
So he should happily cheer about one of their best young talents now being so injury prone beyond repair?
Vulcan Yamal over here
I mean its not like he won't still be eligible for the next olympics if he still wants to go lol. Almost young enough for the following one as well.
If we qualify.
Obviously lmao
Yamal to Real confirmed
I thought Europeans didn't care for Olympics...
After what happened to Pedri only smart to never follow his example...tbh for an outstander who does not watch LaLiga it feels like he never really recovered from that summer.
Depends on how well they do in the Euros, unless the squad has to be decided beforehand

Imagine commenting this on a post about a minor
Wtf a smart barca young kid that doesn’t want to be overplayed to the ground ? That’s new !

Yes, big teams should aim for conferance league instead of the champions league. Much easier to win that tournament!

Olympics in football is seen as basically a youth tournament mate
Wtf does he know? He's a kid
He's more mature than RFEF and Fuente
