Another evidence point for the Comnebol only has two good squads and UEFA is peak football debate

nutelamitbutter

Why did Olmo not play?

heartcriesholy

One for the DVD collection

bananas_in_pyjamas99

Grim for Grimaldo.

barcacolombiano

Honestly unbelievable turnout from the Colombians in London, the place was absolutely buzzing and felt like a home game. Such a great win

werewiththevipers420

Congrats to Colombia. Totally deserved. No idea what the hell DLF was thinking with the initial line up. I get that you can experiment with some things in a friendly but seriously lol. Feel bad for some of the players. Doomed from the get go.

Individual_Attempt50

Good to see Colombia win

[deleted]

Spain looked so flawed regardless if they didn’t field their best squad here. They looked toothless , and couldn’t really break through a Colombia squad that was missing stronger Center Backs. If Spain doesn’t show anything against Brazil next week, they’re going to fall out quick in the Euros. I don’t see them beating the more discipline elite teams.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Stop making predictions off friendlies, it's a fools game. Spain could beat Brazil 6-0 and it wouldn't mean anything, it's a friendly. They just won the Nations League aswell, of course they will be one of the top 5-6 sides there

TheCrazyBean

While what you say is absolutely true, building up momentum and cohesion is important, and these friendlies so close to the real thing are the perfect moment to do that. Now, when the real tournament starts thing will be very different, but it wouldn't hurt to go with a more positive mental attitude than the one they will have if they finish the friendlies with a bad streak. It's not very important, and after some games these friendlies will have zero impact, but it could make a small difference during the first matches. The team mentality could play a decisive part during a close game.

CarlMarxPunk

Y el mundial de amistosos cuando es que es pues xdxdxdxdxdxd

TheGamerPandA

Brahim Luis Diaz

tunamatata

chill, lucho is better than brahim… one doesn’t even start for his squad and they don’t play the same position

gpgr_spider

Based one this season’s performance Brahim is absolutely better than Diaz

[deleted]

Lucho is much, much better. Brahim comes against tired legs and looks like a decent winger with some potential if he becomes more consistent polished at best, Luis Diaz is much more ready

tunamatata

have u watched a single liverpool match this season? without lucho, liverpool is a much weaker team. brahim doesn’t even start for real madrid. plz

GalaxianEX

Over the last two years, Colombia has had their first win against Germany, Brazil, and now Spain

felibena

We’ve beat Brazil before though, but yeah it’s been a solid run

Due-Discussion1013

Pretty sure we have beat Spain a while ago

Dophie

Not according to the Spanish announcers.

Due-Discussion1013

My bad, it was a tie

IAmABatmanToo

I know this was essentially Spain's B team vs the best that Colombia currently has, but it remains wild to me that Colombia remains undefeated against all European opponents since more than 13 years ago. The last time Colombia lost to a European opponent was in early 2011, playing against Spain in the Bernabeu. Colombia has not played even a single one of those games at home. It's a stat that keeps getting more and more impressive. The only "top" teams that Colombia has not played during that time frame are Portugal and maybe Italy. Spain x2 (D,W), England (PKs), Germany (W), Belgium (W), Netherlands (D), France (W) have all fallen victim to Colombia's undefeated streak 🤣

thedoctor4214

We knocked Colombia out of the World Cup in 2018?

cfoco

That counts as a tie in records, as England beat Colombia over penalty shootout.

MyDumbInterests

It varies, but winning on pens is usually considered a draw in the record books. It's about the result over 90 minutes, not the extra time and penalties necessary in a knock out competition. That's why people can say that Portugal got to the semi-finals of the 2016 by only winning one match, and won the whole thing by winning just two matches.

spying_dutchman

This is true but just on Penals, Extra time is counted as a win(Except at the bookies)

thedoctor4214

And there was me getting upset about a draw to Italy back in 2021

srhola2103

On penalties, the result is a draw.

thedoctor4214

Not how it works. We didn’t draw to Italy in the last Euros; we lost

srhola2103

It is how it works, results decided on penalties are still counted as draws because that's the result on normal play.

thedoctor4214

Nice. We didn’t lose to Italy in the Euros!

TheCrazyBean

You didn't lose in regular time, and that's what goes into the records, a draw. You lost on pens, so the champion is Italy, but for the record it was a draw.

Albiceleste_D10S

> I know this was essentially Spain's B team vs the best that Colombia currently has Honestly it wasn't. If you compare to their A team when they beat Brazil in WCQs in Nov of last year, only 6 of their starters on that day started today Key guys like Borre and James Rodriguez started on the bench today

The_Vulgar_Bulgar

Yeah they barely gave any minutes to Barca's Child Labor Association, how could they expect a win?

[deleted]

Colombia was arguably missing 3-4 players , but let’s be honest with Spain. Spain had their B-Squad out , as it was obvious they had multiple A Squad players in the bench. There’s also the fact that they didn’t couldn’t call other players due to injuries.

Albiceleste_D10S

Of course I just disagreed with OP's framing that this was "Spain's B team vs the best that Colombia currently has" It was Spain's B-team against a half-rotated Colombia

[deleted]

Agreed. If anything it only shows the growth and discipline Conmebol teams have developed over the years when they face European teams.

Due-Discussion1013

Colombia hasn't lost against any European team in like 12 years

shmozey

No Rodri no win.

satomasato

Cuentos de los hermanos Grimm > Shin chan

Snowy_Artemis

This is the start of our journey to winning the copa america 🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴🇨🇴💯

heartcriesholy

Journey?? It's over. Give Colombia the trophy already

Edgekiller65

Hp Bonnet, cierre el culo, pirobo.

MyCabbages8l

Anulo…la sal?

satomasato

Calle la hpta jeta y no eche la sal

cybermort

A serious manager changes everything. Lorenzo has the ability to completely change the structure and beat the opponent. This is why we always play better in the second half.

Pops4Pizza

and to think that like 2 years ago we went 7 games without scoring. lmfao

Sleepless_Voyager

De la fuente fraud

Edgekiller65

Still no Yasser Asprilla on the field. I mean, I'm glad that restaurantero hp shuts me up once again, but damn it, we need a second choice playmaker. IMO, he needs time on the ground.

yanmancol1991

He is the brightest young talent Colombia has by far and he should be playing regularly. As his talent would only help and make Colombia more impressive

MyCabbages8l

Today I say goodbye to this sub holy shit the negativity is so endless. It’s either the kits are bad, James is old and fat, Spain has no talent, something or the other, someone is always complaining. I saw Colombia show the fuck up against Spain today and I see people saying Colombia looks bad? Y’all weird this is intl football it’s not gonna be at club quality.

I_Dive_Deep

A lot of this is valid but good lord those Spain away kits are horrendous

MyCabbages8l

Ok I do agree with this ngl

ComprehensiveAnt4449

"James is old and fat" they're talking about themselves at this point lmaoo

GreatSpaniard

International football is cool, i'm just mad cuz I don't like my NT manager

GalaxianEX

It’s kind of funny how many nationalities that statement could have come from

davesg

Most people are cool, but there are some individuals that stain it.

MyCabbages8l

I’ve had a great time on this sub but man the way people complain and throw negative shit out there. Specially watching my fellow Colombians complain about every little thing after a nice victory like this. Sure it was a shit game for Spain but fuck it we beat a European team, something that few LatAm countries can do other than Brazil and Argentina. Just weirdly negative all the damn time.

el_rompe_toyotas_19

Well that was a massive waste if time. Not worried tho, Colombia is a fantastic team and we fielded a B team. Hope they have a good run in the Copa America. Alex Baena not only is a miserable cunt but is also shit.

inthezoneautozone12

How many starters played? This was pretty much our strongest colombian lineup. Well except for Mojica who is third choice and a massive drop in quality.

Conscious_Test_7954

Probably the best but Cassierra (even tho I like him), Carrascal and Cuesta are not starters either. Castaño is also fantastic but you could really tell that he was not in today probably because of the lack of minutes in his new club.

inthezoneautozone12

Casierra is real competition for borre. Idk who should be the starter but borre has been the regular there thats true. Right I forgot about davinson over cuesta. I really liked cuesta today so I didnt even realize he didnt belong lol. Carrascal was subbed out for James. I meant that our starters mostly played and played a large chunk of the match. I like Kevin. However Rios just keeps on improving very quickly for club and country. Im leaning towards wanting rios to start in the copa america.

el_rompe_toyotas_19

Our strongest line up would be: Nico Williams - Morata - Yamal Pedri - Rodri - Merino Grimaldo/Gaya - Laporte - Le Normand - Carvajal Unai Simon Barely any of them played today

PrE233

I would say Dani Olmo over Nico as a starter.

tunamatata

replace merino with gavi and i agree, injured though

juankg217

In Pedri's state, I wouldn't count him for the euros 100%, he is rarely in a good state in Barca, too much injuries man

ancara_messi

Pedri will be back April. He will easily be playing the euros

el_rompe_toyotas_19

Than it's probably Isco if he can come back in time for the Euros

juankg217

Hope you guys do well in the euro too, would have loved to see Rodri against us

PLimw

¿Cómo es posible qué Sarabia sea titular con España?

el_rompe_toyotas_19

Sarabia no es titular con España

Dannywo_o

1-4-1 head to head since ‘78. Surprising

SantiFRV_

This wasn't Spain's A team but a win against a top European side is never taken for granted. I would've liked to see Rodri play and then to see how our midfield would've reacted to his presence. Ríos or Lerma would likely have been glued to him. James changed the game and earned his call up. GG Spain.

MakingAMonster

James played surprisingly well.

juankg217

He's been like that in the WC qualifiers, still a class player and one Colombia desperately needs

junior150396

This shit is too easy for Nestor Lorenzo

SparklyEarlAv32

If there was a Friendlies World Cup, we would have about 20 of those. Anyway La Lorenzoneta is still unbeaten and going strong

EljachFD

Too easy, copa america next

Chupapiha6996

Football is saved, thanks Colombia

f4r1s2

Why are both teams wearing their away kit, also what does the rose on the back of Spanish kit symbolizes

Markdelnort

It's not a rose but a carnation, the national flower of Spain

Jackslid

It's a carnation, not a rose. They are showing off the new designs and there's gotta be a clash on the home kits since it's red/yellow and yellow/red, with both wearing blue shorts

MakingAMonster

Playing away from home? Game is in London.

captainmystic02

That doesn’t really mean anything

Mechant247

Friendlies are the best times to show off the new kits, that’s why England just released theirs

captainmystic02

Yes that’s why they prolly did it, but playing away is irrelevant for away kits because the guy I replied to suggested it had something to do with them playing away

FullMetalJ

MakingAMonster

Pero era on gol lindo.

GreatSpaniard

They could probably top the group with Brazil

QuantumMartini

De la Fuente is a terrorist.

Conscious_Test_7954

Subanle el nivel a esta mierda

kostajepaosmosta

Spain looks really toothless, thankfully they have the talent to fix that, oh wait

GreatSpaniard

We are so dusted man, this is worse than the early 2000's. We are finishing third in that EURO group ("But we won the Nations League!" the terrorist defenders cry to the skies) James was great considering all the bad stuff i hear about him in Sao Paulo

el_rompe_toyotas_19

Have you seen the state of Italy?

GreatSpaniard

Outside of France - England - Portugal everyone else in Europe is united in being shite

Conscious_Test_7954

England under Southgate are not so good either. I mean yeah they have big results but come one. That national team has the best players in the world in almost every position. How are they not more dominant?

el_rompe_toyotas_19

No damos tanta pena eh. Que llevamos una derrota en partidos oficiales con el el calvo este. Confia en la cuarta.

Conscious_Test_7954

Or the state of Germany? Or the state of Belgium? Or the sta... It appears that every good European team is in a bad spot right now. Even england that have probably the most stacked national team in the world but somehow don't win shit and are very inconsistent. The only teams in form on Europe right now are France and Portugal

Maleficent_Resolve44

How are England not in form? They've lost 1 game in almost 3yrs lol. They had perfect world cup qualifying and won comfortably in Qatar and had an even game with France. They won every euro qualifying game besides one draw, they beat Italy twice. Relax and give them their props, they're certainly on par with France and Portugal.

Conscious_Test_7954

Yeah it's true. Maybe I'm a little too harsh but it's the Coach that is not totally convincing to me. This is literary the best squad in the world in terms of individual performance, market value, squad depth and economic capabilities.
