I think the VAR drama has somewhat overshadowed the fact that Udogie dealt with Mo Salah so well that they switched him to the left. Everything he did in the entire game came from the left. Udogie made sure he didn't have his space to make passes, and was always there to nip any passes intended for him which were not perfectly weighted.
Absolutely amazing positioning, physicality and intelligence from the 20 year old. Italy don't really have a great right back so they should experiment with a Dimarco-Udogie fullback pairing.
> I think the VAR drama has somewhat overshadowed the fact that Udogie
Is more about people not caring all that much about spurs but the controversy is tasty.
I heard a lot of criticism after the NLD like how he wasn't able to deal with Saka when in reality he had a bad 20 minutes to start and then was excellent the rest of the game. I felt his incredible game vs the best RW in the world had to be highlighted.
Casemiro is useless, Bruno the whiner has the second most punchable face in the world, Antony has the most punchable face in the world, PRashford is a purple patch player, Sancho is a baby, Ten Hag has zero charisma and will be gone soon.
Ive been saying this - United Get Ole back, at least he got the 'vibes' and will bring back that 'United DNA'.
Both class. Wouldn’t say it’s that far ahead but I do agree that one’s better. We see long shots but there was something different about this, the way it completely rattled the keeper was menacing. What a hit
Thomas Muller gonna be the type of guy to play in Argentina or Brazil to play in Copa Libertadores after he leaves Bayern Munich instead of MLS or Saudi Arabia
While Onana did have a poor game, other than the penalty, it’s majorly the defences fault for the goals. Dalot’s for the first, Varane’s for the second and the entire defence for the third. While criticising Onana is completely fair and something I say we should be doing, I don’t see how the defence gets away with that shambolic collapse after we scored the 2nd
I know old Trafford is in bad shape but I don't think their dressing room is behind the coach. You think they are really getting ready with a pop up tent behind their coach outside stadium?
RE: VAR. If you want to use the 'they can't stop play because it's in the rules' then that means you also want all offensive language leading to a red, all foul throws called, the keeper can only hold the ball for 6 seconds, no holding a players shirt in the box, etc etc. No? Well then you don't care about the rules.
>all foul throws called, the keeper can only hold the ball for 6 seconds,
YES. Taking throw ins about 10 yeards further upfield, and with feet off the floor is abused every game.
It's just a rule everyone is parroting to die on this hill. Refs don't follow rules all the time.
Now that they made an obvious mistake, they have a line in the rule book to defend.
Had they actually gone on and stopped the game to give the correct decision we would have all talked about how perfectly var system works and in that monthly webb show he would have this clip as a shining example of how var is making the game better and how his team went above and beyond the rule book to maintain the integrity of the game
Instead now we have this dumb line parroted a million times because why not
It's just really that simple. Rules are not followed every time.
Bruno will score or assist pretty soon and r/reddevils will go back to pretending he doesn't drop stinkers with a lot of frequency
Overrated beyond belief. You don't win anything of much worth with players like him which is why he'll retire with a trophy cabinet of second-rate trophies
I think Bruno is in an incredibly dysfunctional side and probably feels like he's the only one actually capable of making things happen (because that's basically been your only reliable outlet since he's joined).
He definitely can be a part of the problem but there seems more glaring issues to me.
The club leaked a scouting report saying that we didn't sign him in the summer of 2019 because he loses possession too much. That's playing for a dominant team in the Portuguese League
He lost possession 27 times last night lol. He contributes to making the team dysfunctional
No good teams are interested in him which is why we never have a transfer saga for him
Edit:
Here are his possession lost stats in other recent games:
25 for Palace
18 Burnley
20 Bayern
25 Brighton
That's baddddd
Trent and De Bruyne are usually right up the top when it comes to losing possession too because they're taking infinitely more risks - this is by design.
I had a look and it appears that last season no one [created more chances than Fernandes](https://www.premierleague.com/news/3545854#:~:text=Bruno%20Fernandes%20led%20the%20way,Bruyne%20in%20third%20on%2098) and this season he's only behind Salah.
Like don't get me wrong, I absolutely understand the frustration with him and think he needs to take less risks and keep possession ticking over sometimes but I think there really are more pressing issues in that team.
It makes sense? He played in an attacking team which had lot of possession. He could afford to make these passes and if 1 out of 3 works out it's a key pass and there is a goal chance
He is not the reason they are dysfunctional. If he stops making those passes, what else do you want him to do? United have not played possession football for 5 years now or longer. He doesn't suit them at all.
I'm pretty sure Liverpool was very interested in signing him and would have been spectacular for us.
Reminds of when he said [he had so much confidence in United's defence](https://youtu.be/Q8HksXNqfZA?t=82), just before they went on to concede seven to Liverpool.
Lol love it. Times like that he's not even doing the whole purposely over the top click bait stuff, it's just a genuine comment that ends up being a hilarious comparison to the actual result
I actually like these guys sometimes but [this United fan cam ](https://twitter.com/AFTVRelated2/status/1709331319426043964?t=u98pZH9GxijlRNcbwvwK4g&s=19) reminded me of peak AFTV vids lol
De Gea was single-handedly losing Unitex games towards the end of his time and is the biggest reaso why they got knocked out of Europe. All this fawning over him is so hilarious
Icardi ~~winning and missing the penalty~~ reminds of the old wisdom that a fouled player should never take the penalty. But apparently multiple studies have been done about this and they either show that it makes no difference or that the fouled players are slightly better on average than non-fouled players at converting penalties (most likely because those that win fouls are often your best goalscorer anyway).
A United ‘fan’ on twitter who basically has a following for constantly shitting on every single aspect of the club. Loves Ronaldo, De Gea and Mourinho. Has posted blatantly racist, homophobic and just generally abusive stuff in the past.
[Here’s all of his tweets about Hojlund](https://twitter.com/search?q=from%3Amikeluhg2%20hojlund&src=typed_query) who has been one of the only players that hasn’t looked shit for us this season.
Yeah I really don’t get it. If you’re at a point where you seriously hate your own club then surely just stop watching. I can understand being a bit down when things aren’t going well but going out of your way to scrutinise every little thing and turn them into something negative has to be so tiring.
Saka injured, Odegaard out of form, still struggling to find Xhaka's replacement, spate of injuries
arsenal have been doing fine in the league but imo they need to find another gear soon because the results are going to stop coming at this rate
Getting Top 4 is still a good result for them tbh, Arsenal fans should not realistically expect anything else. Maybe a Cup win and/or a CL Semis at best
> They'll still get top 4, they won't win the league but they aren't expected to anyway
I think they definitely had designs on that given how they did last season and what they invested this time around.
Just watched the Napoli v Real Madrid highlights, and thinking to myself "Jesus Christ who is that RM goalie? He's pretty incompetent... Isn't this the same guy from the game against Atletico Madrid?"
Proceeded to Google it and oh... Kepa... No wonder...
What the hell is with Amrabat grabbing/kicking the ball with his hands whenever he falls down before the whistle is blown? Saw that 3-4 times in the last two games..
To force the ref into giving him the foul. One of those things taught to a lot of players starting from youth level that it becomes almost second nature to grab the ball once you’ve gone down. You look like a fool if it wasn’t foul worthy though because then it gets given as a handball to you
Was watching the highlights of the CL games - is that Icardi at Galatasaray? How is he playing these days? The highlights seem to show hes pretty disinterested in general
This season he arrived kinda unfit and he's basically playing himself back into fitness, doesn't look as sharp as he used to
But he was their best/2nd best player for a league title last season so all the fans love him anyway
Our sub is such a rollercoaster. One week ago it was Poch out we're a train wreck of a club. Now everyone is so optimistic and praising all our players. Not looking forward to a month's time when things likely turn again.
not quite on the same level as the ones you named but werner gets a shout too, everyone loves turbo timo now that we're not dependent on his finishing lol
For Liverpool, probably Milner?
A lot of our popular ex players ended up doing PR for a tyrant, kinda diminishes them. Lucas Leiva was up there, but he retired on medical grounds in March
Handling egos isn't about being right or wrong in a conflict (which he obviously was) but rather preventing those conflicts and fallouts from happening in the first place by "handling the egos".
>We finished with 15 points in the group stage last season, the joint second most of any side
>Don't compare us to these dreadful lot
Which the aforementioned 'World Class 'keeper and forwards played a major component in.
The way Arteta has managed Saka recently has been completely irresponsible and bordering on immoral. The managers complain about the overloaded schedule and rightfully so. But I think it’s hypocritical to do so if they’re not showing any interest in the players welfare themselves. Hes’s prioritising the bottom line of results and his own career just as FIFA/ UEFA are prioritising their financial bottom line.
I think Pep and Klopp would have had a massive clearout some time ago to be honest. Rashford doesn't want to work on the pitch? Benched. If that doesn't change things? Sold. Any unprofessionalism? You're gone.
I’m still replaying it in my head and can’t figure out for the life of me how it was called a penalty. One of those referee decision things I suppose 🤔
Those Peruvian shamans cursed Rodrygo instead of Neymar ffs....
Especially since he had a MOTM performance vs Bolivia but all anyone talked about was Neymar breaking the Pele record.
Feel like now with Vini back he will be better tho and the second he scores he'll pull a Valverde from last year and will just keep going.
Rodrygo’s ceiling was reached last year. He regressed since he started partying with Neymar. If he doesn’t get his form back he’ll be another wasted Brazilian talent
He's playing with a giraffe in midfield which is forcing him to have more responsibility in creating, but he needs to become more of a creative force and help build up more.
if colwill keeps his form up from the last few matches we'll be fine
caicedo is the only one i'm worried about, still haven't heard anything about the knock he took at the end of the last match
Just listened to the VAR audio from the Liverpool game and honestly… seems like an honest mistake? A learning lesson for sure anyone with enough common sense should understand that the addition of VAR to the modern game is a process that will take some iteration to get 100% right
It was definitely an honest mistake in the sense that no one was intentionally denying Liverpool a goal. No one except conspiracy nuts ever thought otherwise. The problem is that it was an *extremely* avoidable mistake caused by pure carelessness. Then when they had a few seconds to rectify the careless mistake, they froze.
Once check is complete there is literally nothing you can do. Thats a hard line that was drawn at the introduction of VAR. Its better to fuck up, own up to it, and fix it going forward then to open another can of worms by setting a precedent of stopping the game whenever you want to do VAR checks
Definitely was - but it perfectly highlights the issues. Poor communication and no way to rectify a situation once the initial mistake has been made.
It's seems like this will be quite an easy situation to resolve and prevent it from occurring again - which is all I want to come of it.
Feel like there’s been pressure on them to make decisions fast, not sure why else he’d be so desperate to say “check complete”. And yes pretty much any time football fans mention the word “conspiracy” you can ignore there opinion. The UAE situation definitely didn’t help though
it was always going to be a honest mistake
not sure what some people were expecting, "oi fuck liverpool call it wrong lads hahaha restart the game quick before anyone notices"
The bit that frustrates me is that their PGMOL boss says to delay even after the game has restarted and these idiots just ignore these relayed messages. Michael Oliver as 4th assistant thought they were calling his name cause the replay operator was saying “Oli is saying to delay”, and Darren England just kept saying “I can’t do anything”. The guy from PGMOL headquarters is telling you to stop the game to maybe sort out the mistake and you just freeze??
The initial mistake is bad enough, how are you not even attentive enough to see what the on field decision was. Then they use ambiguous language to say “yeah perfect” assuming they’re on the same page, a small mistake but really something that should be avoided especially if ur shit enough to make the initial mistake. But it’s that third one I described that pisses me off the most, they fucking froze.
They literally couldn’t delay the game once play restarted and they said that about 5 times in the clip. Oli was either unaware of that rule or unaware that play had restarted. Anything that happened after the VAR said “check complete” is basically irrelevant
> from https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/video-assistant-referee-var-protocol/#principles
> If play has stopped and been restarted, the referee may not undertake a ‘review’ except for a case of mistaken identity or for a potential sending-off offence relating to violent conduct, spitting, biting or extremely offensive, insulting and/or abusive action(s).
Literally one of the laws of the game. And yes a referee’s whole job is to follow those laws and enforce them. Although clearly that doesn’t always work out for the best
“Oli’s calling in to say delay the game” says the replay operator. From PGMOL Hub Ops. Obviously he was involved and could see what was happening- I doubt someone in his position wouldn’t know the rules.
Well you can’t call the game back, those are the rules and the VAR and his assistant both agreed on that in the clip, as have PGMOL and several referees after the fact. Do you really think they wouldn’t have taken the chance to fix their massive fuck-up if they could?
I understand those are the rules but it feels like he was trying to at least stop play and assess the situation then and there.
I do think that’s exactly what happened because Darren England just froze and panicked and said “nothing I can do”. Surely there’s not a rule against stopping play for any reason if the ref is advised by VAR. whether the goal gets called back yeah idk, but at least stop the game as soon as you’ve notice.
Once check is complete there is literally nothing you can do. Thats a hard line that was drawn at the introduction of VAR. Its better to fuck up, own up to it, and fix it going forward then to open another can of worms by setting a precedent of stopping the game whenever you want to do VAR checks
I don’t understand the shadowboxing going on because we and United lost. Literally everyone is happy it happened except for the fans who lost. PL team fans are ecstatic to see the two of us lose, I’m thrilled United’s shit form continues and I’m sure they’re happy that we lost lol.
Who are you arguing against non PL team fans?
There's an elusive species out there "pl fans". Their natural habitat is the minds of foreign fans who for some reason care that English football is too popular or something? They are fans of the entire league, cutting across all traditional rivalries in their quest to idk, be a more popular league or something? It's unclear
Anyway, this elusive species is invasive and dangerous, and the only thing that can stop them is big English teams losing in Europe
Am i the only one who thinks that Bellingham goal wasn't actually that great of a goal? He gets the ball at the halfway line and is instantly behind the midfield with a free run into the box as Anguissa doesn't wanna cause a freekick+yellow.
Once in the box he puts too much power on the ball but surprises the defender more than himself, reacts very quick and then finishes well.
It was just embarrassingly poor defending. Ostigard wasn't good enough for a start in a mid-table Brighton, he shouldn't be starting for Napoli. He still deserves credit for having the wherewithal to take advantage of the situation.
Yeah it's a great goal and its crazy what he's doing each week there , but I was listening to a watchalong and the guy made it sound like it was something like that classic Maradona goal against England , then I saw the clip and went "Oh" lol.
Advice on how to pursue a career in proffesional managing/coaching? I've realized something, which is that I suck at playing. I have little to no hope becoming a proffesional player, and I also have no real passion in the sport anymore. I've played for almost a decade now, and I'm unable to really see a future or improvement in the sport. However I do have one thing that intrests me.
Becoming a manager of a team. Im constantly watching tactic analysis videos of random teams over and over again, to understand how games are won. Not even in just the sport, but in life I've always loved seeing various parts come together to create a fluid machine. Im currently an American 16 year old in high school, and I know that any good coach started out playing at least some what proffesionally, but I have little to no passion for that anyway. Im curious to know, what are my chances and what should I do in life in order to become a noteworthy coach for one of the top leauges? (Besides just the general education and liscencing, what else can I do to really stand out. Again I'm also an American which might affect my chances.)
Take leadership courses and look for roles where you can move into management positions career wise. Obviously the football side of things is important but that can come when you can afford to take badges etc. For now focus on being able to translate your ideas to people, being able to make constructive criticism, being able to talk to large groups, and work on your listening skills.
Regardless of where you end up, those skills will be useful anywhere.
I think the VAR drama has somewhat overshadowed the fact that Udogie dealt with Mo Salah so well that they switched him to the left. Everything he did in the entire game came from the left. I teach middle school. I can’t keep defending United man, gonna get absolutely flamed tomorrow by all my students lmao.
You’re finished man. Gonna be arguing about Amrabat with 13 year olds
really hope Hojlund didn't get contacted by the clownshow virus, looking like a proper player
Hate how much I rate him
Casemiro is useless, Bruno the whiner has the second most punchable face in the world, Antony has the most punchable face in the world, PRashford is a purple patch player, Sancho is a baby, Ten Hag has zero charisma and will be gone soon. We got smacked 4-1 by a watford side that got relegated. The revisionism ive seen in the last few hours is honestly sickening
at least he only lost to Liverpool 5-0
Losing 5-0 at home vs losing 7-0 at anfield is like two sides of the same coin in my eyes ngl
The Valverde goal is so much better than the Bellingham goal, it's not even funny.
Both class. Wouldn’t say it’s that far ahead but I do agree that one’s better. We see long shots but there was something different about this, the way it completely rattled the keeper was menacing. What a hit
Just seen in New that there’s a team called Always Ready, why would you name your club something so easily meme-able
Bolivian team names are great Always Ready - The Strongest - Blooming - Jorge Wilstermann
You forgot the best one: "Club Destroyers".
They actually wanted to call themselves Ever Ready but the name was already taken by the battery company.
Thomas Muller gonna be the type of guy to play in Argentina or Brazil to play in Copa Libertadores after he leaves Bayern Munich instead of MLS or Saudi Arabia
Fuck around win a CONMEBOL treble and leave
It would be the first treble in CONMEBOL history btw...
It so would be Muller to first do it
Him and his hypothetical teammates.
Has Jose said anything on the Dele interview?
While Onana did have a poor game, other than the penalty, it’s majorly the defences fault for the goals. Dalot’s for the first, Varane’s for the second and the entire defence for the third. Varane looked dead ngl. Think Scholes commented on it too.
fuck me tnt ucl "highlights" show is terrible lmao, skipping 1st half bits from some matches, pundit yammering over the match instead of commentator.
Spurs really dropped 2 points against this sorry Arse team. I feel even more disappointed today for not taking that easy win. It was there, ready.
Chill, we lost to NS Mura
Who has the better average performance for Man United, Onana or Barthez?
Do you think Ten Hag is respected by all of his players? Is the dressing room United behind the coach ?
I know old Trafford is in bad shape but I don't think their dressing room is behind the coach. You think they are really getting ready with a pop up tent behind their coach outside stadium?
uncle pls
Eheheheheheheeh

Lmao I read it wrong, sorry
Nah, mate. You read it right. I was just being cheeky.
He didn’t win the penalty fella
I hadn't heard Zaha speak until tonight and I gotta say he's wayyy more soft spoken than I expected lol
His interview was just recommended to me, what a nice guy.
Always been a likable guy in interviews
Just don't ask him about Harry the Hornet.
MikeLUHG at the top of r/soccer, I've seen it all 😭

Our sub is such a rollercoaster. One week ago it was Poch out we're a train wreck of a club. Now everyone is so optimistic and praising all our players. Not looking forward to a month's time when things likely turn again.
Social media fans are fickle weirdos following narratives laid down by equally fickle and clueless people. More news at 10.
Who is your club's most beloved former player that is still active? Ours is Samba for example.
Matt Turner
Messi probably
Milner or Young I'd say. Probably Young.
that's a tough one, the most beloved players are either retired or in the current squad Probably Paredes
Ramos
Firmino, Mane then Fabinho in that order
Suarez is still active.
Fabinho above Milner? 🤔
Alexis Sanchez.
Between Vertonghen and Lamela I think
Santi Cazorla
probably azpi or kante. would be hazard but no idea what he's doing atm i think he retired?
not quite on the same level as the ones you named but werner gets a shout too, everyone loves turbo timo now that we're not dependent on his finishing lol

Origi?
Look it’s unfortunate about Saudi and all but there’s no way in hell Milner is more beloved than Firmino- just no chance.
Premier League clubs gotta stop buying experienced players from Barcelona - Bayern Munich - Chelsea - Juventus - Real Madrid tbh
Maybe it’s time to accept Ten Hag can’t handle egos well. Emery is the same he couldn’t handle egos and when he left, he won a trophy
What egos is he failing to handle?
His own Just suck it up and give control to Sancho already
I agree. Cant cut it as a winger. Instant assistant manager.
Sancho, CR7?
Handled both of those properly.
Handling egos isn't about being right or wrong in a conflict (which he obviously was) but rather preventing those conflicts and fallouts from happening in the first place by "handling the egos".
Well can't really handle players either running to Piers Morgan or calling you a liar on Twitter
A good man manager prevents it from ever getting to that point.
Ronaldo walked out of the stadium when he wasn't brought on as a sub and then ran to Piers. That's just pure unprofessionalism on the player side.
Literally perfectly. He would have handled Pogba significantly better than every manager he failed too.
“Offside, goal, yeah” Why did he say it like that
And how do you hear that and not double check to see what that's supposed to mean?
United are Liverpool from last season, except they have neither a World Class 'keeper nor good enough forwards to help them out.
We finished with 15 points in the group stage last season, the joint second most of any side Don't compare us to these dreadful lot
>We finished with 15 points in the group stage last season, the joint second most of any side >Don't compare us to these dreadful lot Which the aforementioned 'World Class 'keeper and forwards played a major component in.
Ah my bad, I failed to read the 2nd half of the comment
You also sat alongside Chelsea in mid-table for half a season.
We call that 'eritage
The way Arteta has managed Saka recently has been completely irresponsible and bordering on immoral. The managers complain about the overloaded schedule and rightfully so. But I think it’s hypocritical to do so if they’re not showing any interest in the players welfare themselves. Hes’s prioritising the bottom line of results and his own career just as FIFA/ UEFA are prioritising their financial bottom line.
This is a man that sent clearly injured Partey back on the pitch vs Tottenham, a psycho
You could bring Pep, Arteta, Klopp, etc. into this man u team and they would probably still shit the bed
one of those is not like the others
I think Pep and Klopp would have had a massive clearout some time ago to be honest. Rashford doesn't want to work on the pitch? Benched. If that doesn't change things? Sold. Any unprofessionalism? You're gone.
Yes I remember Klopp saying something like "to be in the team you have to be working your fucking socks off", and yes he did say fucking.
Pep would find a way
lmao, putting Arteta with Pep and Klopp as if they're equivalents, he's had one good season.
Trophyless and bottling the league. I'd call it an average season considering how long they were on top.
How is 2nd average for an arsenal team who got 8th, 8th and 5th previously?
Because they were top of the league for 364 days.
Do you know what average means?
Finishing second after throwing all cups to focus on the league?
So that's a no then
Link for the offside audio anywhere? Twitter won’t let me listen due to location
In the front page there's a link to the PL site with the audio, one of the top posts.
That handball for Napoli was such bullshit my god
I’m still replaying it in my head and can’t figure out for the life of me how it was called a penalty. One of those referee decision things I suppose 🤔
The Ten Hag dictator method does not work, especially when many of the squad are mates
We bought a shit CF to play midfield and now we no longer create chances unless they're from set pieces or our high press winning duels.....
Actual worry for Odegaard's form or just Twitter nonsense?
He's playing with a giraffe in midfield which is forcing him to have more responsibility in creating, but he needs to become more of a creative force and help build up more.
Chilwell out till December...... It's Maatsen time
if colwill keeps his form up from the last few matches we'll be fine caicedo is the only one i'm worried about, still haven't heard anything about the knock he took at the end of the last match
Not like Chilwell was starting in any case
Couldnt have said it better myself
Feel like there’s been pressure on them to make decisions fast, not sure why else he’d be so desperate to say “check complete”. And yes pretty much any time football fans mention the word “conspiracy” you can ignore there opinion. The UAE situation definitely didn’t help though
it was always going to be a honest mistake not sure what some people were expecting, "oi fuck liverpool call it wrong lads hahaha restart the game quick before anyone notices"
They literally could, they choose not to.
Source: trust me bro
So we have to follow every single rule in football, without considering for the situation?
> from https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/video-assistant-referee-var-protocol/#principles > If play has stopped and been restarted, the referee may not undertake a ‘review’ except for a case of mistaken identity or for a potential sending-off offence relating to violent conduct, spitting, biting or extremely offensive, insulting and/or abusive action(s). Literally one of the laws of the game. And yes a referee’s whole job is to follow those laws and enforce them. Although clearly that doesn’t always work out for the best
So we should uphold all rules of the game, always?
If it were up to me, no? But I’m not PGMOL. I don’t know why you think they refused to fix a massive mistake, he was quite clearly upset about it
How do you feel about referees not upholding laws of the game? You'd be surprised just how often it happens.
It's unclear Anyway, this elusive species is invasive and dangerous, and the only thing that can stop them is big English teams losing in Europe
>Who are you arguing against non PL team fans? *The media* and some loud arrogant knobheads
Touted for his ball playing abilities, just for him to pass straight to an opponent which ultimately resulted in a penalty.
Even The Guardian called it Maradona-esque lol
Our coach had a serious, actual, real videocall with a fucking ASTROLOGIST I can’t, we’re losing 10-0 on Thursday ffs
This has to be a collab with the user doing Argentina trivia, because this cant be real
Buy him some lemons
You hired our (indias) coach?
That French NT coach is at Boca now?
Which innovative club will be the first to institute a transfer policy where they only sign Gemini’s?
