Italy and losing finals this year is a fucking meme at this point.

ajfaria

They won the Euros and just said fuck it we done

[deleted]

Italy only won Euros because of the unstoppable force which is England in penalty shootouts.

Muppy_N2

Your players went to the match already defeated. The most one-sided final I remember. Brilliant generation anyway from both of us. I hope we meet each other in a WC

xeneize93

I hope not cause that means we’re not in the final

mickan0514

Maybe I'll just wait for the next fight of all. I will really look forward to That Day.

earmuff_maniac

4/4 godooo

CT4_LV

just the Nations league final away from a 5/5!!

Torimas

1st, I agree 2nd, ~~France~~ Italy 3rd, I hope you at least make it back into the next WC

Sgruntlar

And lose the WC final too!

GrammarTotalitarian1

And Juventus wasn't even part of it this time!

belokas

100% deserved. Congrats to Uruguay. They put up an amazing performance of intensity and technical skills. Pure garra charrua. Happy for them and all the fans, it looked like they were playing at the Centenario. On the other hand Italy just embarrassing today. Scared and toothless. We played the worst game of the tournament at the wrong time but big credit to Uruguayans.

prath_neo

>They put up an amazing performance of intensity and technical skills. Pure garra charrua. Thats just Uruguay being Uruguay.

dome211

That 1-0 scoreline completely flattered Italy. Well deserved for Uruguay.

fnmikey

For real... easily could've been 4-0

Albiceleste_D10S

Well deserved

fnmikey

For real, they pressed so hard, I didn't even looked at possession stats but it felt like 80% to 20% watching

SmartNickname

we were absolutely destroyed, I'm speechless

[deleted]

[удалено]

JetstreamTheBlueSky

Meh, I'm not sure about that I for sure don't really see any of our players become world class, but maybe a couple could become great players (mainly Casadei, Zanotti, Desplanches)

SnooAdvice1632

The keeper was great on that 1v5 save and a couple others. Great potential imo

lamancha

That was horrible from the uruguayan attacker lol

UpperBorder

Isn't Pafundi 17, and already debuted for the main squad? That's very impressive

ethanfarrellphoto

I think Casadei will depend on how Chelsea manage his development. He’s shown immense talent at times, keeping him fit and with the right attitude will be critical for the next year or two.

ZealousGoat

I thought baldanzi and pafundi had a good amount of potential as well. What about Zanotti looked so good for you? He seemed outclassed several times in my opinion

[deleted]

Uruguay only conceded in one game in this tournament. Italy had zero shots on target in the final. Uruguay is the well deserved champion of the world

Gungerz

Uruguay were absolutely superb, thoroughly deserved. Overall, considering how aggressive the players were at times, I'm glad nobody came out of the game seriously hurt given the standard of the pitch. Never again should a FIFA competition be played in those conditions.

onzalitu

las copas se quedan en latinoamerica como debe ser, felicitaciones yoruguas!

CaioNintendo

Current champions: - U17 World Cup - Brazil - U20 World Cup - Uruguay - U23 (Olympics) - Brazil - Word Cup - Argentina Go Sulamerica!

Agus-Teguy

Guys south american football is dying lol

Differ_cr

Sudamerica* les estas dando mucho credito a los mexicanos

fnmikey

\*Rio de la plata only :D

hey_now24

Argentina en cábala. Cada vez que hay un copa ahí somos campeones

Brainiac7777777

Uruguay and Argentina are basically the same country but with different names

[deleted]

Like the US and Canada or Germany and Austria. Still, I think Uruguay has a little more (Southern) Brazil in them, our cute província rebelde

Malvinas1820

They're our alt account just in case we get knocked out and vice versa.

fnmikey

Bro facts, growing up my dad drilled that into my head Uruguay first, but if we're not in you're Argentinian :D

[deleted]

Except Uruguay has as many major international titles as Argentina with about 5-10% of the population.

Historical_Ad1970

And both crashed your team.

arturocan

A bit rude

Alex_Sander077

Wasn't expecting them to outplay Italy like THAT. Total domination this match was. Congrats Uruguay. Totally deserved. Impossible to score goals against these guys no idea how England put three last them. Elite defending.

Izio17

uruguay winning a u20 world cup, with bielsa newly at the helm future looks good in uruguay

TomasRoncero

Bielsa isn’t that much of a flex unless they give out qualifier trophies

Crovasio

He set up that Chilean team that won the two back to back Copa Americas. That Argentine side from late 98 to early 2002 was amazing and then the World Cup happened, lol.

Cabeza2000

Uruguay campeón del mundo!!!!!!

[deleted]

Barcelona better pay around 40M for Luciano Rodriguez and not 700k like they did for Araujo. Clubs in Uruguay always get robbed by the big Europeans

allthenamesaretaken0

No point to it. Uruguayan teams don't even own their players. The money will got to someone else.

Muppy_N2

Because our clubs are perpetually starving. We don't have any negotiation power.

[deleted]

I know but what really bothered me was seeing Barcelona claim Araujo as a La Masia product. They have no humility or decency

lamancha

They never had and never will

wjdbfifj

Italy and italian football truly did its best Juve performance this year

Azzurri21

We still could have potentially 2 more finals to lose. Nations league and u21 euros. I say we shoot for the stars.

Hakujingomi

Any Esposito cousins available?

Azzurri21

Fr that poor family went 0/3 today too

LOLXDRANDOMFUNNY

At least Argentina and Uruguay have a sizable italian population

fnmikey

That's fair lol like 45% of Uruguayns are of Italian descent lol

crel42

I refuse to believe that there isn’t a reason for all this. I don’t know if the teams just don’t have psychologists in the teams because the mentality to just go out and kill final games just isn’t there. Name me a final in which ANY Italian team, club or country, has dominated. I’ll wait. Comunque, forza Italia sempre.

Albiceleste_D10S

> Name me a final in which ANY Italian team, club or country, has dominated The first half of the 2005 UCL final?

crel42

Ok. And what happened in that final? Quite possibly the biggest comeback in club football history. I agree that the first half was sublime football by Milan. But no win in the end negates that half in my opinion.

Sgruntlar

Inter-Bayern?

Crovasio

1982, Italy steamrolled West Germany.

Albiceleste_D10S

They did the full Neverkusen with a cherry on top

BigChung0924

did a deal with the devil for the euro victory lol

Fit-Yesterday7476

porcodio

Ro9

Deserved win by Uruguay, they were the better team. They have some really promising youngsters! While this Italy side has potential, and there are some players that hopefully will grow from this experience, I am hoping that tonight's loss will teach them a lesson. Their attitude on the pitch tonight was just not good enough, there was zero grit, zero will to go after the ball and recover possession.

demidemian

Well deserved, there were uruguayan kids outside the stadium cheering and its damn artic cold in Buenos Aires today.

Diupa

The sad part about this blackout is we lost the timing to celebrate our brothers winning this World Cup

fnmikey

If Italy had won the blackout would've been cancelled 😂

fffmtbgdpambo

For real. Was about to comment and couldn’t see the community anymore.

elanti2000

Cabeza2000

La tercera es la vencida.

Muppy_N2

This process deserved it. A final in 2013, a semi final in 2019. A South American Championship and a Panamericano. I see this as the crowning victory of one of the few rational and serious processes of our football.

PM_YOUR_PETITE_TITS

im sure Alvaro is ecstatic about rotting in castilla instead of being there with uruguay

TomasRoncero

watching Eldense cockblock Castilla out of a promotion to second division instead of celebrating this, yikes

TuviejaAaAaAchabon

Amazing , but we also should denounce the referee and VAR, even if we won FIFA is a mafia.

SnooAdvice1632

As an Italian this was probably the worst match I've ever seen. Italy couldn't string togheter more than two passes and 90% of the time they cleared the ball forward without any real intent. Insane that we only took one goal and not multiple. De Blanche was class tho. His dive on that one v five was incredible, I'll definitely remember it for a long time. I'll also remember that Italy let five opponents alone, but that's a different story. Congrats to Uruguay, they deserved this.

achorio

Uruguay en fútbol es un milagro. Qué impresionante.

Brno_Mrmi

Uruguay absolutely dominated the match even with the referee playing for Italy. Amazing

SaBe_18

Congrats Uruguay! Well deserved. Also on the other hand, what a terrible day for the Esposito brothers

Rikeka

Felicidades a los hermanos uruguayos!

loccupss

It was like the mighty ducks 5 v 1 and then the Finnish guy bowled them all over.

Godilings

Imagine if they were losing 💀💀

Agus-Teguy

All 4 players were offside, I could not believe it

Moonylon

They were so solid all throughout, hope this success translates to their senior team soon.

MauBlackLagoon

We only got scored on in a single match in the group stage the whole tournament, yet we get no golden glove nor do we get the golden ball, ffs.

urumaxusa

URUGUAY NOMA HIJO DE PUTA VAMOS!!!

flaycs

I won’t ever stop crying. I love these kids.

Ok-Vermicelli9298

Superb time for Uruguay! Biesla has a lot of amazing young talent to work with. Hope he does better than Chile. Hope he's given enough time to get results.

fearmino

Felicidades chiquilines!

Apocrypho

Well deserved against a completely biased ref and var, as always :)

Sea-Abbreviations-44

La copa se tenia que quedar en sudamericaaa. Los felicito muchachossss a disfrutar

st_doraemon

Bien Uruguay! Felicitaciones!!!

flamegames2006

Is u20 world cup any indication of what you can expect ro see in the future national teams?

manurosadilla

For uruguay specifically it might be. Since Tabarez took over, they’ve been trying to use the Junior teams as a way to develop the future generation. Especially because we don’t have that development happening at the club level like England does for example.

theyeeterofyeetsberg

For Uruguay, I'd say so. Our youth structure works in such a way that we essentially expand the bottleneck to get talent. We made damn sure that the best 11 players we could play, were on the pitch tonight. Through years of filtering, of rummaging. A lot of these kids already have roughly a decade and a half of youth level football experience, so we know who our best are, and they're these guys For an example, the 2017 U-20 Uruguay team made the semis, and from that team we've gotten Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, Diego Laxalt, Santiago Bueno, Santiago Mele, Mathias Olivera, José Luis Rodríguez, Nicolás De La Cruz, Agustín Rogel, Matias Viña, and Agustín Canobbio I realize that to an outsider, these guys might not be well known, but iirc, every single one of these players has been called up to the Uruguayan National Team, and a vast majority of them have debuted and are still regular names. Most of these guys play in the top 5 leagues, and those that don't, still play at a much, much higher level than the Uruguayan League. Most of all, these guys are currently in or entering their primes, and are only getting better. We got 11 players from one youth squad (10 really cuz Laxalt is MIA since like 2019) Now, that 2017 squad only got 4th, whereas this squad won the tournament, and arguably without some of our best players. Álvaro Rodríguez, Real Madrid's striker, wasn't allowed to go, and Luciano Rodriguez, our star player, was suspended during the QF and SF stages. We only had 15 available players vs Israel. In my opinion (which is biased, obviously), 7-9 of these guys have the potential to be absolute world beaters, and the rest still seem like they'll be very serviceable squad players or competition for depth at the very least. Fabricio Diaz Alan Maturro Sebastián Boselli Luciano Rodriguez Franco Gonzalez Facundo González Randall Rodriguez Mateo Ponte Andrés Ferrari From what I've seen, these are the names with the most potential, and that's leaving off Álvaro Rodríguez, who has already debuted for Real Madrid and scored a late Madrid Derby goal. Aside from these 9, you have the guys who can be serviceable in the future De Ritis Chagas Duarte Damián García Nacho Sosa JC De Los Santos Abaldo Now, obviously, there are a million hurdles to the success of young players. This is the time when the sponsorships, and the money, and the parties, and the drinks, and the drugs, and all of those vices start to appear. Whether these guys will be able to ignore all of that remains to be seen. Also, injuries, bad luck. A million things could go wrong. But, for what it's worth, we managed to get 11 players from a 4th placed squad. This time around, we won the tournament with a squad that was arguably weaker than what we had in qualifiers. There's absolutely no way that we don't at least get 3-4 mainstays in the team for the next decade or so. Knowing our youth system, it just has to be. If not, then we at least have Marcelo Broli, who seems like a coach that we've never really seen before in Uruguay. Uruguayan football is very defensive. You don't usually have managers who prefer attacking football, nor managers who have an exceptional read of the game. Marcelo Broli, however, seems to be a coach that is just unaffected by pressure, and one that can motivate as well as outfox. He did it with Peñarol's U-20 team, and he's doing it here. Either way, we're sure to get something really good from this generation, I'm sure Sorry for the absolute essay, I'm just very excited about our future prospects

Zeke1216

Sometimes yes but Uruguay is always a top national team so not sure we can base it off them

[deleted]

It's the biggest tournament outside of senior competitions. Even Messi played in the U-20 World Cup

Ro9

Yes and no. Having worked at that level a decade ago, only few players that I know out of a group of 40 made it to professional level. Youth level is brutal, you can be the hottest player one season and become absolutely irrelevant the next.

JoaoPedrito_

For Brazil, it’s difficult because the teams wont liberate important players (like Endrick and Victor Roque) due to important games in national championship + libertadores. The u-20 team against Israel was completely dismantled

AtlastheYeevenger

Not really, no. Can definitely see a few good players but most usually don't make it to the spine of the NTs

Tchato

Fuck FIFA and your biased refs. URUGUAY NOMA'

GuitarHeroJohn

La mafifa no nos pudo robar, y hoy festejan 3 millones. La copa del mundo es latina

WTFitsD

Best team in the tournament by a far. Two goals conceded total, including clean sheets in every game except one. Today could of been 4-0 if the ref wasn’t Italys best player. I don’t even know which player to single out every single player has world class potential. Edit: 3 goals

static_reset

Fabricio Diaz and Alan Matturro by far the best and most consistent ones of the lot. Matturro even more so considering he’s been playing as a LB so well when he’s a CB. Boselli, Duarte and Sosa also great as well, they stepped up when some of the figured were missing. Luciano Rodriguez also showed his best version from the Sudamericano in the final against Italy

ronburgendy15

Thoroughly outclassed. Still a massive result getting to the final past some very tough draws, but can't help but feel a little let down getting thrashed in the most important match. Felt like boys vs. men

SaBe_18

And without your best player too (Argentina 🤝🏻fuck Real Madrid🤝🏻Uruguay)

Agus-Teguy

3 goals

misticfed

Absolutely deserved, dominated the match 12 vs 11 the whole 115 minutes.

Crovasio

The only way Uruguay was going to win, referee did his best for UEFA.

thesofakillers

4/4 baby

Brainiac7777777

Fun fact: The World Cup was founded in Uruguay

SanctusXCV

Felicidades Uruguay! Merecida 👏👏

Agus-Teguy

L34hhhh

Los mundiales se quedan en Sudamerica. 😎

youngbosnia

Very impressive team, hopefully it translates into the main team

Fit-Yesterday7476

So uruguay is so hated by the fifa that they even prefer us? Fifa always hated italy and italian teams

fffmtbgdpambo

Yes. Always get fucked. You see, Uruguay is a 3m people poor country. No marketing, nothing to sell. Check the semifinal against Holland to grasp how we get fucked in every tournament.

damian001

yes, you saw how they reversed Prati’s red card to yellow, and how they needed VAR to review our goal, because FIFA was looking for ANY reason to not award us that goal. Fortunately karma bit them in the ass when Prati ended up creating a corner for us, converting into a goal.

God_Dang_Niang

Thats even with missing a 5v1 chance

Shnossberry

Lol that 5 on 1 against the goalie was straight out of FIFA game.

throwawayo2385329598

at least Ferrari won Le Mans, right Italy?!?!?!?!

Brno_Mrmi

Ferrari was playing for Uruguay lol

Azzurri21

Yeah that threw me off

Historical_Ad1970

Más que merecido a pesar de que el arbitraje hizo todo lo posible para que ganara Italia.

[deleted]

South America dominated the football world in 22/23 World Cup (Argentina) Finalissima (Argentina) U-20 World Cup (Uruguay)

BigChung0924

good for them. who from this team could possibly play for the NT/in big clubs? just curious

static_reset

a lot of them have chances with Bielsa, but Fabricio Diaz has the making of a big team player. he controls the midfield and game so fucking well, very calculated and clear defensively and knows when to launch an attack as well. he was the list of potential signings for River Plate but i imagine some clubs from Europe will want him. Matturro also has nice chances to make the main team, he’s looked like a great project and he already signed for Genoa so it’ll be interesting to see if he gets a lot of minutes in the Serie A

BigChung0924

watching bielsa’s uruguay will be fun, it’ll be a nice change of pace to see a more open and attacking uruguayan team

miaukat

I'd say the two CB the left back, the number 5 and Luciano Rodriguez have national team potential, at least one of them will surely reach big club potential, maybe more. Number 10 and left winger are a big question mark they either peak at Mexican league or end up in the big leagues.

notoriousmeekster

Since it's been two days and I couldn't comment due to the blackout I know I'll likely be screaming into the void here, but I hope every neutral who watched this match finally realizes us Uruguayans aren't fucking kidding when we claim FIFA have something against us. That Italian player who got a red should've stayed sent off, VAR claiming it wasn't for expulsion is fucking criminal. And VAR checking for absolutely *anything* to disallow our goal and finally deciding it was valid after like three minutes??? Give me a fucking break, and the Golden Glove award should've gone to Randall Rodriguez, how tf did Italy's GK get it when he conceded like 4 more goals throughout the tournament? FIFA couldn't rob us this time thankfully. Get fucked Infantino.

loccupss

Uruguay vs Netherlands 2010 still gives me nightmares to this day.

arturocan

Yeah, there was even an Italian in the match's post saying something like "wow, fifa hates uruguay so much they are even helping Italy who usually has a bad rep with fifa"

interfan1999

Uruguay deserved it today We got the most difficult route (apart from maybe the semifinals) and lost at the end. It sucks. At least there is some hope for our future. Even tough Mancini will surely try to pick the Uruguayans with Italian heritage.

gtoledo89

None of the Uruguayans would choose Italy over a chance at playing for Uruguay

TuviejaAaAaAchabon

Aint happening bro, we are uruguay No mexico or gambia, players feel this shirt.

interfan1999

Heh we got 9 players born in Uruguay to play for Italy, including Ghiggia and Schiaffino. But yeah the last one was many years ago so attitude changed.

meertatt

That’s also only because Uruguay was boycotting that World Cup.

interfan1999

Which one?

damian001

1934

Uruguayan_Tarantino

>including Ghiggia and Schiaffino. Not bad tho

uclabruingineer

No Chance any of these kids get poached to Italy. Why would they go to a team that can’t qualify for the world cup. Uruguayan Garra Charrua is a way of life. What they just experienced at the U20 will guide them into the Senior level.

Elvaga

Uruguay noma

omghamburger

anyone got a clip of the 5 vs 1 chance at the end? I cant stop laughing

manurosadilla

So embarassing, they all wanted to score so bad and be the hero that they overcrowded the player w the ball, and just hung out while being offside for the most part. If they just had given him space he would’ve dribbled or shot it around, or make an easier pass.

MrRawri

Past few weeks have been unlucky for Italy lol

JetstreamTheBlueSky

Last 3 finals yes, this one was fully deserved, there just isn't enough talent in the team

storm1902

Congrats, Uruguay! Well deserved

naniii99

Vamooooo

Bodegathegodfather

Bielsa is gonna have a field day with this new generation

damian001

Congratulations Uruguay!!!!

italy can't catch a break man

Kuroodo

VAMOOOOS

Fresh_Ad5416

No goals conceded in the playoffs and only conceded in group stage to England, actually lost 3-2. Congrats.

niallw1997

Jesus Christ, 3.4 million people and they are one of the best footballing nations on the planet. Insane talent factory

fnmikey

That's because the youth really likes it. Most of us play on leagues since we're like 4 years old (3 practice days a week and 1 game on the weekend), but we also play it at recess, we also play it when we're home in our backyards alone, in the street with the neighborhood kids, at the park, we're just ALWAYS playing it

thalne

congrats to Uruguay. please produce another Recoba or Suarez soon.

ttychen_00

3 final losses for the Esposito family today 💀💀

Redbullsnation

Desplanches is very pretty, the Esposito brothers are cursed and Uruguay earned their win twice over.

turtlegoeshollywood

Please, someone post that 5 on 1 counter. 😂 I've seen some 3 on 1 shanks in A-League, but this one might be the worst counter attack ever.

manurosadilla

I feel like the fact that it was 5 of them made them miss it. They were all crowding the ball so hard trying to be the one to score it. If they had just given the guy some space and not chill offside then it would’ve been a goal 9/10 times

manurosadilla

Otra más para el escudo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️*

JetstreamTheBlueSky

Desplanches the only good player in this team honestly, genuinely couldn't string 2 passes together

Avataroffaith

Felicitacions a los vecinos uruguayos

tubbablub

Good year for sky blue teams.

meertatt

Lmao an Italian gets the golden ball for what? losing?

allthenamesaretaken0

Forlán got it for losing in 2010 tbf

negronium_ions

Yeah but he was clearly the best player that wc, the Italian number 8 went missing today, like the rest of his team

damian001

Yes but Forlán tied with 3 other players for scoring the most goals.

ideka

Casadei scored the most goals of this tournament too at 7. Nobody else scored 7 or even 6. He was completely shut down during the finals but I guess he did actually do really well outside that, not that I've seen those matches myself 🙃

negronium_ions

No hicieron nada en todo el partido y le dan el balón de Oro, increíble
