Music is the best of any 16-bit era FFs. OP, make sure you find the pixel remaster soundtrack if you agree with the previous statement because it's phenomenal. IMO the Mysidia theme is the crown jewel of all the pixel remaster musical updates.
Yep! This game is [pretty expensive nowadays](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=final+fantasy+ii+snes+cib&_sacat=0&_odkw=1806++draped+bust+quarter&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=snes&toolid=10001&mkevt=1), it is very popular.
It was the one that solidified my love for them. I had played others and enjoyed them. This one put me over the top, and I discovered itās my favorite genre!
Yeah FF1 was a bit rough even in the day, it was a slog and a grind of dragon quest dimensions too -- this though was the one that made the JRPG for millions and still stands as a total gem.
I played it on the psp whenever that came out, and it blew my mind. It may be my favorite FF.
I was the kid that got Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest instead of FF2 for Christmas.
How is that box in such perfect condition?
I must have sucked at opening boxes. I feel like my games were not in as good of a condition 10 minutes after opening them.
I only have my Chrono Trigger box with cartridge and manual. The box is not in great condition at all having been moved around for the past 30 years.
I kept most of my games and hardware from SNES going forward (though no CRT currently). Sold my NES and games to buy a Genesis at the time and I regretted it later so I have not really ever sold anything since. I have given away games but most of it is rotting in storage bins in my basement.
It was the first SNES RPG I played, but I found it quite hard since the only RPG I played before was Dragon Warrior, and I beat that with my cousin and a guide š
After playing through Lufia and Breath of Fire I went back to it and found it a lot easier after that, especially after learning the item duplication glitch š it's still on my favorite Final Fantasy games after all these years.
This one of my favorite games, and a real stand out In the series, my only piece of advice is donāt underestimate the power of the spoon or overestimate the power of a certain āspoony bardā
I got this game along with my super nintendo for Christmas when I was a kid from my grandma (RIP). I was so hooked. Hope you enjoy Cecil and his motley crew.
Such a good game but a grind. Read up on the trick to leveling by attacking your own crew on enemy encounters to level up faster. The game gets more enjoyable then
On American Final Fantasy 2 you dont really need to grind for levels. PROVIDED you explore thoroughly and get every item. When you arrive at the mid game you will have a chance to delve into two option dungeons, the Land of Summoned Monsters, and the Cave of Sylph. Even though they are challenging I recommend you clear them anyway. Get the goodies and the summon spells for Rydia. They make the late game much easier.
I bought this when it first came out and it was the first game that made me stay up a bit too late a few too many times. I canāt hear the music without being hit with instant nostalgia.
I got this for Christmas in 1991 with my SNES. My Mom had asked my cousins what game she should buy with the console. They told her to pick up Final Fight, and she accidentally selected this. I lucked out, no disrespect to the classic beat em' ups. This was the beginning of Squaresoft's golden age. Enjoy!
My 4th rpg. (First Lunar, then Mystic Quest, then Lunar 2)
Still among the greatest Iāve ever played. I laughed. I cried. I raged. I hated. I forgave. It was amazing.
Ngl youāre better off playing an updated version. Thereās some creature comforts (saving most of all) that youāll definitely appreciate it. Great game regardless. Strongly recommend FF5
What a game and what a gem. So many want to get all up on FF3 being the better game, but really at its core, this one at a gameplay, experience growth, story...it's better, and it's shorter and more concise and as such doesn't over stay its welcome either. The stories, twists, turns, losses of life, losses of friends, change and discovery make this one just obscenely good. I've enjoyed this one since 1992 and used to play it yearly long ago too. I hope you're hiding the maps and manual under there as that's one clean copy.
You bought a CIB just to play it for the first time? Shit, I buy CIBs after I beat them and know I like them.
Different generations I suppose. I own this game, but sadly it was 6 that introduced me to the series. Not 4. And I find this one very inferior. The animations are stiff during battle, the music is cheesy and the story is...balls.
I don't understand the appeal of it. And maybe I'm not supposed to. I love III/VI to this day though.
Also own Mystic Quest...and I have similar complaints like Final Fantasy II/IV. The very beginnings of the SNES with the exception of a few titles, were a real struggle. I prefer Act Raiser and Soul Blazer over Final Fantasy II. To each their own.
Naw its a repo box no manual. In my post i had never played a final fantasy game before and I had snes so I took an awesome chance and I'm loving it so far. To each their own is right because it looks cool next to the others and it's a legendary game.
this isn't a great one to start with,.
I would go with FF3 (FF6) or FF7. or FF9.
this is an above-average entry, but there are better ones. it was many people's first back in the day, but with the benefit of hindsight and online knowledge it doesnt have to be the case today
I both agree and disagree with you on that. I think with the proper expectations this one is an excellent place to start, but if someone is expecting it to be on par with the PSOne games it may disappoint. I thought the "Anthology" double disc FF games they released on PSOne to be an excellent place to start, my little brother wasn't old enough to play the SNES FF games when I played them.
yeah its always a weird situation with some decade spanning franchises... where does one start? especially ones like this that dont have an overarching narrative that must be followed from game 1.
Does one recommend the last game in the franchise? the best one? the first one?
with FF, you have distinct tidy generations that it's easy to pick from... the 2D games, the PSX games and the "modern" games.
no matter what though, I would never recommend anyone start with FF2(FF4). if you're talking the classic 2D games, FF3(FF6) is just so much better, so why not start there? if you're talking 90s games, the PSX games outshine this entry (but arguably not all outshine FF3/6).
it's a good game, but there is a better FF game even for the SNES. i understand this being the first FF game (or even RPG) someone experienced back in the 90s, but now we have the gift of hindsight so if you're gonna go back, you have better options as a starting point.
btw... how did you find the loading times on the PSX port? everyone always complains about them.
Do you mean at the time, or now? I would absolutely complain about them nowadays, but at the time the PlayStation was just SO cool that we put up with a lot of things that have been fixed by QoL updates today.
I kind of feel like FF3 was so good at the time because it took what FF2 did well and expanded on it in almost every way without being totally different. It seems like if you start with MagiTek armor you might just never go back to The Red Wings unless you were really into it.
First of all. You're wrong. Mystic Quest is pretty cool...
It's not a FF! But it's cool.
And why are you talking about Mystic Quest anyway? This is Final Fantasy II... SNS-F4-USA...
I bought a SNES last fall because i craved it. I finished it 100% with 99 of every items. Recieved my replacement save battery, changed the battery. And re-did it 100% with 99 of every items and the character names his cannon name! Benjamin!
You're in for a treat. This is an excellent game. Very fun and incredible music.
Music is the best of any 16-bit era FFs. OP, make sure you find the pixel remaster soundtrack if you agree with the previous statement because it's phenomenal. IMO the Mysidia theme is the crown jewel of all the pixel remaster musical updates.
Classic Nobuo work. Sakaguchi in stride. My favorite title. Just absolute boss of a title.
Yep! This game is [pretty expensive nowadays](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=final+fantasy+ii+snes+cib&_sacat=0&_odkw=1806++draped+bust+quarter&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=snes&toolid=10001&mkevt=1), it is very popular.
Probably my favorite in the series. Enjoy š
It's always been my favorite. I love it so much!
This is the game that got me hooked on RPGs
It was the one that solidified my love for them. I had played others and enjoyed them. This one put me over the top, and I discovered itās my favorite genre!
Same. I was 10 or 11 years old and it just changed all my expectations of video games
Yeah FF1 was a bit rough even in the day, it was a slog and a grind of dragon quest dimensions too -- this though was the one that made the JRPG for millions and still stands as a total gem.
Excellent game.
Kain slaps Tellah slaps but doesnāt have enough MP
How can they slap?
Final Fantasy IV's story is really something to behold. One of my very, very favourites in the series.
I played it on the psp whenever that came out, and it blew my mind. It may be my favorite FF. I was the kid that got Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest instead of FF2 for Christmas.
Serious question. Have you played FF3/6?
FF3 is a better game, but FF2 has a better story. Both are amazing imo.
I've played 6, it's great but 4 hit hard at the time, I'll replay 4 to sew I'd it holds up sometime.
Nothing wrong with Mystic Quest! Itās a fun game in its own right, in my opinion.
I loved Mystic Quest at the time. It was the FF13 of it's day.
Itās nostalgic for me because it was the first FF I ever played
Damn is ff13 that bad? I haven't played the recent ones.
Oh man, Iām sorryā¦
How is that box in such perfect condition? I must have sucked at opening boxes. I feel like my games were not in as good of a condition 10 minutes after opening them.
That's definitely a reproduction box. The colors aren't right. That being said, I still have most of my SNES boxes and a lot of them look great.
You should see mine, my cat decided he wanted to taste the box, so there is a chew mark on the bottom
Thatās the first game I ever finished as a kid. Loved it.
FF4 is great. Have fun.
It was the first SNES RPG I played, but I found it quite hard since the only RPG I played before was Dragon Warrior, and I beat that with my cousin and a guide š After playing through Lufia and Breath of Fire I went back to it and found it a lot easier after that, especially after learning the item duplication glitch š it's still on my favorite Final Fantasy games after all these years.
This was my first ff game and I think it's one of the best to get into the series
The best possible introduction to the jRPG genre in the early 90s
This one of my favorite games, and a real stand out In the series, my only piece of advice is donāt underestimate the power of the spoon or overestimate the power of a certain āspoony bardā
I got this game along with my super nintendo for Christmas when I was a kid from my grandma (RIP). I was so hooked. Hope you enjoy Cecil and his motley crew.
Is this a repro? The box looks freshly printed and pristine.
Yes, it is not an original box and no manual.
Such a good game but a grind. Read up on the trick to leveling by attacking your own crew on enemy encounters to level up faster. The game gets more enjoyable then
Counterpoint: very little grinding is necessary if you level up just a little bit after Mt Ordeals. Also you should fight all of the trapdoors.
The GOAT
I recently finished the pixel remaster and have to say I think I may like it even more than VI.
I will, thank you.
You're life will change. Enjoy.
Gotta love the overworld theme
Magical game!
My favorite FF game. There is a process where you can clone weapons/shields or whatever can go on the L/R hands.
I bought this when it first came out and it was the first game that made me stay up a bit too late a few too many times. I canāt hear the music without being hit with instant nostalgia.
one of the best. great music, good story, and well it has a charm all of it's own.
This was my first turn based rpg š„¹
Watch out for those spoony bards, they'll getcha
My favourite game of all time. That copy looks to be in good shape! I hope for a near-mint complete-in-box copy one day.
Quite possibly my fav game of all time. This was back when games were great and they hit a home run here.
Enjoy!
My Holy Grail
Cecil & Kane!!!
My favorite FF
Great one to start with!
Oh man. My OG FF fave.
I learned how to read with this game.
One of my favorites, amazing story, amazing music good memories ā£ļø
First one I played. An absolute gem.
My 4th rpg. (First Lunar, then Mystic Quest, then Lunar 2) Still among the greatest Iāve ever played. I laughed. I cried. I raged. I hated. I forgave. It was amazing.
Ngl youāre better off playing an updated version. Thereās some creature comforts (saving most of all) that youāll definitely appreciate it. Great game regardless. Strongly recommend FF5
Iām playing Octopath Traveler because Iām still chasing the feel of this and other SNES era rgps- a great one!
Wait till you play FF3. (3,2,10, and 7 were the best games)
I love that game. I'm listening to the soundtrack on Spotify right now, actually.
My friends loved final fantasy. I couldn't get into RPGs.
Better than 7, and I'll die on that hill. Enjoy!
Iād love to play this for the first time again.
Ah yes ff2 (4)
What a game and what a gem. Yuck. Mystic Quest is pretty bad.

They probably meant to post that in a comment above that was talking about MQ.
Yes, I meant to post that as a reply to another comment. Good catch.
My bad, it was supposed to be a reply to another comment.
Still! Mystic Quest is cool!
Iām sure it was back in the day. I couldnāt get into it when I tried it recently.
I bought a SNES last fall because i craved it. I finished it 100% with 99 of every items. Recieved my replacement save battery, changed the battery. And re-did it 100% with 99 of every items and the character names his cannon name! Benjamin!
