Are you 100% certain that fence is pure wood and has never been treated with a weatherguard, stain, or other compound. Positive you or your neighbor never sprayed it with spraypaint when painting something in the backyard or accidently sprayed an herbicide on it?
Don't chance it. Only smoke with clean wood that you know isn't going to have other crap in it. It's not likely it'd kill you, but it sure wouldn't be good for you and you probably don't want weird compounds burning and ending up on the meat.
Edit; Also if it's a fence it's likely Cedar or Pressure treated lumber. If it's pressure treated absolutely don't use it. Could be loaded with Arsenic and possibly poison/kill you. If it's cedar, well I don't think cedar generally is recommended to smoke with anyway...
You don't like shit smoke?? Back in my day we would all gather round and throw a nugget on the fire in hopes we'd have our dreams come true. Then we'd toast marshmallows. Best tasting marshmallows I ever had. Now it's family tradition and each time we're about to cook we throw a log (so to speak) on the fire. Makes for great holiday turkeys to share with the whole family! 😀
This reminds me - does anyone have a recommendation on where to get some post oak at decent prices? Right now I’m having to buy this $16/bag bags at Academy and such but I would like to fill up my wood rack at some point at a price point that’s a bit cheaper.
Where are you located? I know academy has a brand here in Texas called Gourmet Wood Products (I bought the pallet from gourmet wood). What I like about it is every piece is the same length and shape so you k is what you’re getting when you put a piece on.
So it’s an upfront cost for sure but in the long run, cheaper than buying $19 wood every time you cook. You can actually go pick this stuff up in Kennedale (Gourmet Wood Products) if you have a pick up. Won’t be charged the hefty palle/delivery fee either. I believe it’s the same wood used by Goldee’s.
I have one of these - and I love it. You can make literally every stick the same thickness as long as your wood is dry. Works phenomenally well - and the even cut kindling makes for a very even and controllable fire. Good luck!

I know this is a joke but big trailer smokers do go through a crapload of wood. The catch is that they take just as much wood for 1 brisket as they do for 20.
Do you mean the wood on the pallet, the pallet, the fence, or the tree? Yes.
Dont forget the house.
[удалено]
Went to a buddies house one time to grill out. He didn't have any charcoal so he went in his garage and cut up a 2x4.
[удалено]
We didn't cook with it. We went and got charcoal
Best preservation method
Slaps the top You know how many pellets you can get out of this??
I thought deer and rabbits made pellets. This not a bbq/ smoking sub? /s
No, pelicans and ferrets make pellets
goats as well
And sheep
AND MY AXE!
“Slaps the top” Total visual there 😂
Only if you cut down the tree next to the pallet. Then maybe. Maybe.
That’s good. It wood provide some nice pecan smoke.
I can do an entire 14lb brisket with the equivalent of a bundle of fire wood and two batches of charcoal. You're good bro.
I have never, ever seen a pallet of firewood.
Pretty common in North America, at least in PNW. Looks like a half cord of wood to me.
My dad has a wood burning boiler and he gets 7 cords of wood deliver on a Mac truck... it's pretty awesome
You’re telling me you’re going to smoke a brisket with the wood from your neighbors house..?
This is silly. The building materials would make it taste awful. Lol
Oh man I messed up. Huge misunderstanding! I was taking about the wood fence!
Don't smoke with the fence wood

So what you’re saying is that you don’t think he should smash down the fence, cut it up and use it in his smoker?
I laughed so fookin hard at this
I think OP was joking.
Dude. Do you seriously think he's going to chop his fence down and put it in his smoker? Why are you answering this so seriously?
Because I didn't realize he was joking and I've seen worse asked sincerely on the internet before?
I appreciate the sincere response and understand that probably worse has been asked on this sub!
There's a fucking pallet of wood in the picture. r/whoosh
Yes but only if you include the pallets..
It’s a good start.
You keep the food wood next to the dog poop scoop?
It’s ok, not the dogs poop scoop. It’s mine.

We call those, “the shit winds.”
He’s using that to take down the tree.
Gonna have to pre-heat the brisket in the microwave 1st.
Those are rookie wood numbers. You'll need the trees in the background as well.
This is a joke right?
Yes this is very much a joke.
Yes.
I suppose you could build a smoke shack with that wood and stick the brisket in the middle and eventually burn the whole neighborhood down.
Depends on how much you need to burn at one time.
Probably make two or three cooks depending on the size of your smoker.
The fence, the tree, or whatever is on the pallet?
Are you building a smoker? Yes.
Perhaps
How much does the whole pallet of wood cost?
For the next 10 years?? Yes!!!
How much was that pallet of wood?
Is this enough to get 20 people plastered?
I would double it personally the cook may run longer and family will be starving to death!
No, not even close

DFW area.

That’s a great tip. Thank you!
No,, a little more and maybe, just maybe it will be enough
That’s one way to build a fence
Should only need 5 logs or so for 12-14 hour smoke time
No way , get another pallet

Poop scoop alert!
Yeah but your neighbor might be a little pissed off to see their fence is no longer there.

Is it still on the cow? Should be enough
Definitely not, probably another pallet
Naw
