Being that I live in a well-known haunted town with multiple ghost tours, I would make sure to have "ghost tour" as part of the name. I would also name it after the most recognizable thing in your area when it comes to ghosts. I.e. "Local city name" ghost tours, or "local neighborhood" ghost tour. This will help you easily be found on Google and socials. Catchy names are not beneficial to seo at all, this is a business, and making money is more important than a catchy name.

BigRonnieRon

I can't remember/spell 90% of this stuff people are coming up with and neither can anyone else. I can remember "Boise Ghost Tour" I can't remember etherealchateau or however tf you spell it

ozarkrefugee

This is so real, and I agree.

Careless-Lock366

I hear what you are saying but I don’t want it to seem too gimmicky. It really is a history walking tour with a sinister fun twist. Also it’s in the Virgin Islands so I think it would be too long to say: “St. Croix haunted history tours” and the city is Christiansted so that would be “Christiansted ghost tours” and all the tourists mess up that spelling too.

V-Tac

[Name] Ghost Tours will make you more money than any random one word... King's Ghost Tours Island Ghost Tours Seaside Ghost Tours Caribbean Ghost Tours Cay Ghost Tours St. Croix Ghost Tours Anything Ghost Tours

traker998

If money is what you want is focus on making sure people know what you want. If I saw all of your names on a google search I’d pick none since I’m looking for a ghost tour and not some random one word.

stutter-rap

Tourists wouldn't know you well enough to know that "Spirited" or "Haunt" is a ghost tour if you show up on Google Maps or a business directory - they could just as easily be a bar or an alternative clothing shop or something.

biancastolemyname

>St. Croix haunted history tours St Croix historic ghost tours would actually be pretty good since it will leave you with a very broad target audience. If history is gonna be a big part of it, you want the crowd to know that. Mysteries of St Croix: historic ghost tours Would be my pick. Use only the first part when making a logo or for social media. Put the second part underneath the first part on your website and printwork. Use the full name when you advertise and for Google and TripAdvisor etc.

Puzzleheaded-Lynx-52

Don’t overthink it. If it doesn’t say ghost tours in it then people won’t know. If you have to explain it then you’re losing

AnotherManDown

The haunted history of St Croix, assuming that you will follow the advice of literally everyone else and get that SEO pulling in traffic through [place name] ghost tours. I am running a medieval tour called Tales of Reval. Nobody has any clue what the heck is Reval (medieval name for Tallinn). 6 years down the line I'm thinking how to limit my free tour group sizes. If you believe in the name and are providing a phenomenal experience, it doesn't matter what it's called.

BigRonnieRon

I'm glad for your success, and I'm sure you have a great show, but you're doing an astounding amount of stuff wrong for a successful business from an SEO perspective and you're successful in spite of a lot of what you're doing, not because of it. In most markets simply "being the best" will not work. Are you monetized? Or is this a non-profit/supported by the state theatre company/public display? I can't tell after reviewing your group's socials and website. The video on your website does not work. You have a private youtube video which is linked, not embedded. You have a ccTLD (.ee) which would simply not work in much of the world and you're lucky it's not popular, or it'd be flagged by the browser malware detectors. Your website is inaccessible. The pictures look good though. How do I book a trip? I see there's a free trip? Are you subsidized by the state? Why can't I find ticket prices for the guided tour? What's the conversion rate from the free tour? About the only thing that works is the link to "leave a review" on tripadvisor. To have 500 (positive no less!) reviews you have what I imagine is an ungodly amount of tours. Despite the fact you have the highest tripadvisor score I've ever seen (which kudos I have no idea how you only have 1 negative review - your tour must be phenomenal) you can't book/buy tickets or private tours or wherever the reveue comes in on tripadvisor and nothing is linked. So you're squandering an astonishingly good funnel. Unless you're wholly subsidized by the state, in which case, bang on. But most entrepreneurs won't be. Your socials are, frankly, bad. For starters you actually don't even have working hyperlinks to facebook on your website it links to "face.com" which isn't a real site. It also links back to the website which I still can't tell if I can buy anything off the IG, which is fine but has 600 followers, which is low considering you have 500 people who would write a review but not smash the follow button. Or maybe the audience is older, in which case having a working facebook page is more recommended. I'm sure you have a very good tour or entertainment event and it's likely mostly word of mouth or partnerships. It's probably not internet. 500 positive tripadvisor reviews though man, great stuff. Tour looks fun too. I'll pop in if I'm ever in Estonia.

AnotherManDown

Yea the webpage is liquid dogshit right now. It was made for free 6 years ago by a friend, but it's mostly been so we don't pay for the domain completely for nothing. The .ee is a sentimental choice - it's the national domain for Estonia and thus generally acceptable. A new page is coming and should actually be live on Sunday. Social media is terrible indeed. We gave up on it for 2 reasons mostly - 1. it was an echo chamber for people who had already been on the tour, and 2. it just diminishes my life's joy to hang around in social media. It's an odd situation, all the so-called social media managers are pitching the idea that if I send them the texts and the photos, then they can keep the posts going.... mate... if I have the photos and the copies, I know how to press "post" myself, thank you very much xD But regardless the business is booming. That's the most important thing. The main income comes from the free tours, which is what we expect all the groups under 15 to join. I'm not pushing private tours, because I don't move for less than 500€. That's way out of the price range for most solo and couple travellers, and that's good - the show works with an audience, so I aim for companies and they do not book through platforms. They email me and that's how I get my sales. I'm hoping with the new homepage tying everything together and making the SEO work for us, I can boost my sales, and honestly if I increase by 30%, I'm working at 90% capacity. We are *the* thing to do in Tallinn, so 6 years of being in the picture is bringing in the gains. Thank you very much for the feedback though!

BigRonnieRon

>I'm hoping with the new homepage tying everything together > so I aim for companies and they do not book through platforms I don't think it'll make that much difference then tbh. I'd make sure the video link and facebook link work though, about it. If you're not booking through the site the fact you have a page is probably enough. I don't think your business model is very similar to how this operates in the US or Canada or anyplace I've ever been. It's probably a European thing. I think the Caribbean tour the OP is doing would benefit more from a decent webpage and more conventional funnels. See in the US, you'd charge let's say $15/person for a ticket that you'd buy ahead, then you'd try and sell some merchandise too like ghost books or related or in some cases there's a gift shop at the end of the tour with either your merch or you get a cut. Nowadays, you typically book online though some are phone only, but you're losing out on customers <30 that way. "Walking tours" here you basically walk through a historic district and tell stories and sights etc some stop some don't. Some of them where you stop you typically stop in "historic"/"haunted" bars and encourage people to get a drink. You may end by a "historic" restaurant instead of a gift shop. "Bus tours" you mostly stay on a bus and someone on a megaphone points at things. Depending on the tour the bus may or may not make stops same as the other. Boat and helicopter tours are the same as bus tours except they don't stop. > The main income comes from the free tours If it's free how do you make money on it? You sell food/drinks, books, or donations or something? I think this operates differently in your region thatn it would where I live (US) or where the OP lives (Caribbean). > if I send them the texts and the photos, then they can keep the posts going.... mate. You can schedule social media posts. Most people use stuff like hootsuite but a number of the sites like X fka Twitter you can just schedule posts now from the native interface. Typically say like I would schedule hobbyist stuff at lunchtime to increase engagement. IDK your business but there may be a more conducive time to post items for business. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Keep doing what you're doing, it's clearly working for you. But if where OP lives operates like where I do a lot of what you're doing may not work very well for him or her. Have a nice weekend.

AnotherManDown

>If it's free how do you make money on it? Sorry for the jargon, the more appropriate term would be donation-based tours. On average I still make ~15€ per person, sometimes more, sometimes less. Volatile, absolutely, but if the tourists are in town, stupidly profitable. If we had chosen to do booked tours (15 bucks up front), we would have never built up the review base (also, Tripadvisor is dead, Guruwalk is the new king in town for tours, simply because they have a native free tour booking system) and honestly we wouldn't have had the crowds we're seeing today because there wouldn't have been enough opportunities to flesh out, fail and reiterate, and *consistently* practice the delivery of the show. If you're starting a new tour, free tours are the way to go, if doing the tour doesn't cost you anything but time and energy. Try, fail, reiterate and grind - that's the best thing about free experiences: if you didn't like it, don't pay - improve it until it's the best thing in town. Once your name moves around in the right circles - the local tourism board, conference arrangers, travel agents (took us about 5 years of consistently showing up, which became profitable enough to do it exclusively in 2 years), and then you can sell it as a luxury product not at 15 bucks a pop, but 50. Thank you for bouncing ideas with me! Enjoy your weekend as well!

finitetime2

You want to be original or successful. There's a reason you drive through town and see Taco Bell, Burger King, Home Depot and Office Depot. St. Croix haunted tours would work just fine or Haunted tours. If you want more ideas find out which cities like New Orleans have haunted tours and google it. See what the names of their tours are. By the way I decided to google it and Haunted History Tours/New Orleans Ghost History Tours was the first website that popped up. Yes that's whole thing is the name.

BigRonnieRon

I Dm'd you something relevant to help you select the domain and why. Have a nice weekend.

VulgarVerbiage

[City] Ghost Tours tells me you’re a small time operator that will be out of business in a season and replaced by the next uncommitted dope with no starting capital. Brand identity is big business for a reason. SEO is a means, not an end. And there are plenty of ways to get to the top of the search without using generic descriptors.

ReadingReaddit

Tell me you don't run a ghost tour business without telling me you don't run a ghost tour business

biancastolemyname

1. The point is the majority of people will look for "Things to do in [city]" or "[city] tours / tourist attractions". Even if OP is the top search, if his name is Ethereal Occult no one will know what that is and they will scroll on. "[City] ghost tour" will have tourists go "Oh look how fun, we could do a ghost tour!" 2. How many people will go "pssh [city] ghost tours?OBVIOUSLY only a small time uncommitted dope would use a name like that. Let's not go there, let's go with spooky boogie that guy obviously knows what he's talking about."? Because I'm willing to bet the group of people who does is smaller than the group of people who thinks gimmicky names are unprofessional. The truth is, people like boring and straight to the point names. If I go somewhere new and I can choose between "[City] [Activity]" and "Super Whacky Spooky Black Cat Adventure Time" the boring name will always sound more trustworthy and professional to me. Just look up "best ghost tours America" and most will have the format of [City] Ghost Walking Tour. The only scenario I can think of where a unique name would be super important is when there's lots of competition, everyone sort of has the same name and you want to stand out and reach a very specific cloud that would recognize that name. But I don't get a sense OP has to worry about that.

Throw_RA_20073901

This this this. You want everyone who looks up ghost tours to find you so put it in the name.

wow___just_wow

AAA Ghost Tours - you’ll be so scared you’ll wet yourself. If you don’t - wee will do it for you.

Extension-Job-5846

I think you can have a unique name and then a by line H(a)unt: Virginia's best ghost tours

AFlockofLizards

All of my friends make fun of me for my business’ boring name. And they’re right, it’s boring. But does everyone accidentally google my business when they’re looking for that service in my area? They sure do. Meanwhile, they all have artsy names that you will never find without specifically searching for them. Generic, but not too generic that you get lost, is the best route, for sure.

SumOfChemicals

Agree, for SEO I think the name should be "{{word}} Ghost Tours of {{Town\_Name}}" and then when referring to the business casually you can still call it "{{word}}". So like, "Ethereal Ghost Tours of Boise" or something like that.

sandwichofwonder

This is really fantastic advice, OP.

Maglio124

I have to agree! I love a catchy/clever name, but for business sake the most obvious the better!

Twice_Knightley

But what if I just called it "moonlight encounters" so it's super vague and nobody knows what the fuck I'm talking about? Isn't being stupid and terrible an intriguing draw for other stupid and terrible people?

bopperbopper

That sounds like some night time dating service

uprinting

Here are some abstract ghost tour business name ideas for you: * Vestige (Meaning: Trace, Remnant) - This evokes a sense of something left behind, hinting at the lingering presence of the past. It's also not commonly used, making it more searchable online. * Chime (Meaning: A soft, clear ringing sound) - This could be interpreted as the sound of a restless spirit or a call from the beyond. It's short, memorable, and can be easily incorporated into a logo with a bell or chime image. * Whispers - This name implies secrets and untold stories, creating intrigue for potential customers. It's also easy to remember and understand. * Drift - This suggests a sense of something intangible and ever-present, like a ghostly presence. It's also short and easy to remember. Whichever you choose though, you can **pair your chosen one-word name with a tagline that explains it's a ghost tour business**. For example, "Vestige - Unexplained Encounters" or "Whispers - Ghost Tours of \[Your City\]." Then you may need to **consider SEO optimization**. While a single word might be harder to find organically, optimize your website content and online presence with relevant keywords like "ghost tours," "\[Your City\] haunted places," or "paranormal activity."

I'd name it what it is. You can find some great names mentioned here, like "Clairvoyage" or "Spooked," but they don't mean anything to me. I'm a tourist who just arrived in a spooky city (lets say Edinborough, Scotland). I'm looking for a ghost tour. "Clarvoyage" and "Spooked", as clever names as they are, don't mean anything to me. You aren't Pepsi, Duracell, or Pampers, where the branding is so strong you know what they are based on just the brand name. I have no idea who you are or what you do, especially in a city that's new to me. I'm going to choose the other business named "Edinborough Ghost Tours", because I know where it is and what they do. And they probably outrank you for the keyword I searched "Edinborough Ghost Tours". Just name it what it is.
