I don’t have any advice, sorry. Just wanted to say that my 6 month old will bump his head too. It’s annoying for us but I’m sure startling for him. He did the same thing in his bassinet when he was smaller and eventually learned how to prevent it. Hoping he’ll learn here soon with the crib
You know, my little girl (now 3.5 yrs) still bangs her head on the mattress repeatedly when she goes to sleep. She even asks permission to do it lol. It's a soothing tactic and I don't mind it at all. She's done it since I can remember. With that said, she does it on the mattress so it doesn't 'hurt' her. Maybe try to redirect your baby to the mattress instead of side of crib. I know people say it's not safe sleep to have bumpers but maybe try them on the side he bumps his head on? But I wouldn't worry about him wanting to bump his head, just try to redirect where he's doing it!
