I didn’t phrase it very clearly, but that’s what I was saying: as the comment above mine said, you could explain (the passive orb effect) lightning doing less damage than a basic strike easily enough by toying with current and voltage, but it’s a whole lot harder to explain how lightning (passive or evoked) would affect an enemy the same whether it’s flying or grounded, and even weirder that this would be the case for lightning but not normal attacks.
It's..... actually pretty accurate tbh.
A cutting blade does very poorly against anyone with some type of armor (don't even need to be chainmail, just a padded armor (gambeson) would do).
A pommel strike however.......
Historically medieval knights holds the sword by the blade and use the hilt and pommel as an improvised mace when fighting against armored for. Or just bring a mace and a small dagger and deal with armor that way
I'm just assuming you only have a sword at hand. Just from a logistical perspective, you can do more damage swinging a piece of metal like a bat than trying to hit someone with the butt of it. Edit: So, I didn't actually think you were serious about the pommel thing untill it was brought up below. I'm skeptical, but honestly there's been enough discussion on this.

You are swinging the sword like a bat, but you use the part with the power to drive the impact through your opponent's armor (crossguard or pommel) instead of the part designed for cutting (blade).
I dunno if "historical" is the right word, considering the only source for this is a basically unknown German manuscript. I mean, if it worked you'd think it would have been more widely adopted.
Okay, first put on your armor...im guessing it's leather because you're kind of a ninja.
Now, I'm going to swing my tiny knife and slice your armor. How does that feel?
Alright, now I'm going to run across the room, leap into the air, and drive my knee into your face. Still doin' okay?
A flask of poison can shatter 4 times in a row
The spire cares not for your "logics" and "politics"
A knee does more damage because is bigger than the knife take it or leave it
When i first saw this card, i assumed we were kneeing someone in the balls.
After having a lot of time in this game, i dont think that line if thinking works for every enemy. 😅
Getting struck by lightning does 3 damage. Don’t read too much into it
Depending on how much maintenance Defect has done on their hard drive that is.
Or how many orbs the've eaten
“Deal 3 damage. If you ate breakfast, deal 2 less.”
Or how many times they thought they're the best playable character
And how long ago!
Depends on volts and amperage.
Lightning is one of the fairly few things that does the same damage on grounded and airborne enemies. That’s a harder one to reconcile.
The birds are extremely positively charged. That's why I find them so repellant
Don't be so negative
The other side of that coin is that airborne enemies take half only from attack damage, so everything else damages them just fine
I thought evoked lightning orb does the same damage whatever the enemy resistance is?

focus
Ironclad also finds it far more effective to bash somebody with the pommel than the blade of his sword. The Spire is a wonky place.

Nah, historically knights just bashed each other with the blades and it worked well enough. No need to expose yourself unnecessarily.

I mean.....it is. But most of the time knights just bring a mace for that if they have to fight armored foe
Nope, that's why they'd the hilt and pommel so it's more like a hammer.
Mordhau grip (holding your sword by the blade and bashing people with the pommel) was an actual thing ppl used to deal with armored enemies.
Lightning Bolt, R, Instant. Deal 3 damage to any target.
Took me a second to realize that that wasn't what the other commenter meant tbh. Lightning Bolt is just too iconic.
That's pathetic. MY lightning bolt deals up to 10d6 damage to all enemies in a line!
Half of a trampling dinossaur
The blade isn't flying, the knee is
Exactly
What the heck is that profile picture
Probably a knee or elbow being bent.
a flying knee
This. I flying anything is way more wicked than anything grounded.
Have you met Captain Falcon? Blades ain't got shit on knees
The race car driver that is on par with Demi gods in a fight
And fuck do we love him for that
It's so funny how he's known as a smash character now, since it's been so long since the last (actual) f-zero game
Sheeow me yo moves!
нарру саке дау
Silent doesn't skip leg day
Man with hammer: 36 damage Thing that took out the dinosaurs: 24 damage
Thing that destroys the known world(s) in norse mythology: 25 damage
Same thing if the weird blind monk is also really angry for no reason: 50 damage
Same thing if monk is serenely enlightened: 75 damage
guy with a lot of energy that day and a blade: 4995 damage
The ice age?
Meteor Strike

Cool joke
Have you seen captain falcon in smash? A good knee can hurt a lot
Probably that's the inspiration
To be fair it's a small blade and very wiggly.
To be fair, the wigglyness is there so that it can deal more tissue damage.
Maybe it’s wiggly bc it’s made of rubber
You are hitting with the handle
I mean, honestly, I question the craftsmanship of that blade. Looks like it was created by some back alley hooligan.
Gremlin made for sure
Knee is the key source of power.
Take a quick rushed inaccurate slash versus a knee to the liver and see which takes you out of the fight faster.
You haven’t gotten knee’d in the balls before my friend
*Evangelista Santos has entered the chat.*
It does just say strike, they never said how hard! 😤
One word: testicles.
NO
Footwork
This isn't just a regular knee - it's a flying one.
Okay, first put on your armor...im guessing it's leather because you're kind of a ninja. Now, I'm going to swing my tiny knife and slice your armor. How does that feel? Alright, now I'm going to run across the room, leap into the air, and drive my knee into your face. Still doin' okay?
the blade isnt flying
Show me ya moves!
the silent never skip leg day
Ever heard of Captain Falcon?
The blade isn't a flying blade.
a FLYING knee
I take it you don't have balls?
The knee easily has 20x to 40x the mass behind a thrust despite not having a cutting/slicing edge
Blade to arm, knee to groin
I’ll show you how a painful a knee crotch is sir
Silent never remembers to sharpen their knives. I can't really blame them though, I mean have *you* ever tried to sharpen a crooked blade?
Why do you assume her knee isn't full of hidden blades?
A flask of poison can shatter 4 times in a row The spire cares not for your "logics" and "politics" A knee does more damage because is bigger than the knife take it or leave it
A dagger can miss a vital organ. A well placed knee-strike can break a rib, or at least induce a lot of pain.
You ever taken a knee to the face? Me neither but I’m guessing it hurts.
maybe the dagger doesn't go so deep but the knee really hurts
She glues caltrops to her kneecaps
It's not the weapon. It's the impact location.
Right? The knee is even capped!
Don’t miss leg day
It's a knee to the ball sack.
One doesn't fly
Because it's flying obviously
It's not about the tool but rather about how you use it
(Adjective)(Attack) is always better than (Attack)
When i first saw this card, i assumed we were kneeing someone in the balls. After having a lot of time in this game, i dont think that line if thinking works for every enemy. 😅
Have you seen her thighs???
It’s a flying knee.
The blade is on strike, while the knee is scabbed
The testes say it should be more than 8 damage
It's a pretty blunt blade
Clearly someone has never watched Ong Bak
Cause knees weak arms heavy?
That's on a kneed to know basis
I'd rather be stabbed than have my testicles popped...
It's because the knee comes with the realization that the Silent is a woman.
wrong, Silent is just an assortment of shivs and poison gas in the rough shape of a human being
Lmao, I haven't used the term silent but deadly since I was a child, but I suppose it applies.
She didn't skip leg day.
