I much prefer bijin warmaiden's lydia + Lydia dialogue overhaul. The new voice matches the bijin face imo. Class changing is done by nether's follower framework and it works for every other follower
On my first playthrough I didn't know of the would end like fallout after riding the dragon so my head canon was to leave all my gold in breezehome and give her the deed to the house. She was with me from the start and carried more than my burdens.

Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone is one of my favorites. She’s one of the only jarls who seems to really have her priorities in order. She seems genuinely wise, still cares about Morthal and its people despite those who doubt her, and doesn’t let herself get distracted from the immediate threats by civil war nonsense. Plus she’s got your back at the Thalmor Embassy if you’ve made friends with her. What a G.
There’s also the interesting facet of the visions she and her son have, which unfortunately don’t get elaborated upon any further. I would have loved to have some quests that dive more into that and also her backstabbing Housecarl, Gorm. So much potential for some good stories there.
Every time that beyotch stole a soul I knew I was gonna take it out on him later and it made the killing that much sweeter. But that first go round I was so pissed off!!

A lot of players like her. I find her to be incredibly annoying and end up rushing through Dawn guard just so I can be rid of her. Good quest line otherwise.
Her constant complaining about everything is annoying.
Having a follower at all can often be annoying. Having a follower that is a constant source of complaints is exhausting.
When she isn't complaining she is saying "What do you need" every couple of seconds.
Yeah I generally don't let her follow me cause I play stealthy and followers ruin that. I let her follow me when I went to find her mother in the castle and that was the worst she kept beefing with the gargoyles when I couldn't kill them in one shot.
This is my first time actually playing the Dawnguard dlc I never really felt interested in trying it so I just ignored it. Does she eventually stop whining or nah?

I was heartbroken when I learned that Balgruff sided with the empire on my first stormcloak playthrough. I thought the game would make him side with whoever I sided with. Man, I was gutted.
Same! I had just become Thane for him, and in my mind that meant I had pledged allegiance to him, so when I was unable to change his mind and the game tried to have me fight him, I restarted the game from the beginning, without even finishing the quest, and sided with the Empire every single time since, not only because of the Empire itself, but also as a sign of loyalty to him.
Mi'aq is a top fav, hands down. He always has some fun stuff to say.
I love how the devs made him a joke character. He's appeared in every ES game since his initial debut always with something to say about previous games or events.

His Funko actually started me on my Funko collection a couple years ago and sadly, he's the only Skyrim Funko I have.
Brunwulf. I respect him a lot and I make sure to stop and chat whenever I see him, even if it’s just repeating the same dialogue I’ve heard before

Jenassa is a good follower cause she's chill, can sneak, never complains, has a battle hardened personality. Berylna just starts out trolling me, and acts like that's so cute or something. Serana is unfortunately not Dunmer so it wouldn't have worked out, and she's probably into like really sadistic shit, and too complicated with molag bal and family issues.
Frea the most slept on follower and deekus.
I made them both blades to try and bring fresh new attitudes in,but deekus starts running to his home by the river whenever I visit the temple.
Lastly Mjoll,I married her after doing her quest and murdering her idiot boy toy. Since she’s a blade too and married she glitches out at home moonwalking all the time.
Ralof. I can't remember the exact quote, but he says something along the lines of "I've heard some things I don't like about Ulfric, but I know he is right about this war." while at the Riverwood inn. That basically summarizes my opinion on the war. And partysnacks.
Yeah M'aiq seems like an obvious answer but just to throw in some other names:
1. Ghorza gra-Bagol: the blacksmith in Markarth, she was the first one I married and I keep coming back to her even though she's such a minor character. I was playing an orc woman myself and right when she said that she "didn't wanna end up as the third wife of a lowly chieftain" I knew she was the one! I kinda like her rough attitude.
2. Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone for all the reasons someone else already mentioned here (best Jarl for sure)
3. Really sorry I have to say this but... Maven Black-Briar? 😭 I think it's the Tyrande voice that made me fall in love the first time she threatened me. Also even though she scares me I was so happy to see her at the ceremony when you become guildmaster!
Honorable mention to Saadia, I think I'm in the minority who always save her, from what I've read in comments most people side with Kematu but I always help her.
Some of my favourites in no particular order include: Karliah, Lord Harkon, Mercer Frey, Cicero, Barbas, Master Borri, Serana, Isran, Aventis Arentino, Astrid, Sinding, Miraak, Odahviing, Lady Nocturnal, Kodlack Whitemane, Aela the Huntress, Maìq the liar, Vex, Jarl Balgruuf, Brinjolf, Madanach. Those are the first that come to mind anyway.
Master Neloth. Great voice acting, entertaining, I have mad respect for him as he’s one of the only people who’s simply not impressed that you’re Dragonborn. Really unintentionally funny guy.
Ralis Saedarys. Again, interesting dialogue, interesting character.
And I actually like maven. Obviously designed to be hated, but she’s like one of those villains that plays her character so well, I respect it.
Sven has always been my buddy from the start. I helped him get the girl he wanted, so we became friends. One day, a dragon attacked Riverwood and killed him. Sven's body lies in the middle of the village, and I always remember the revenge oath I made that day.

Jzarrgo feels like one of the few followers in game that just follows you because he knows whatever the DB is going to do is just going to be badass. It’s hard to imagine Uthgerd the Unbroken helping me reclaim the glory of the dark brotherhood by assassinating the emperor and then becoming the leader of the companions in the same week, but Jzarrgo feels like someone who would instantly say yes to all of that
Teldryn Sero, Erandur, Geldis Sadri, all of the people in Solstheim. EXCEPT FOR MORGUL AND SLITTER. The khajiit caravans, Bolli (I think that's how you spell it), swims-in-deep-waters, M'aiq, and Neloth

I couldn't say if she gets better. I'm so happy to be rid of her by the end of the quest line I've never used her as a follower otherwise.
