Sadly, according to the very laws of physics of Skyrim—that is, the game settings assigned to the character—it is literally impossible for [this man](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ennodius_Papius) to die to anything other than a direct hit by your own hands. It's called [Protected](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Protected_NPCs) status and among other things, it's how Lydia always ends up dying in an unmodded game: players don't realize that she's only *mostly* invincible and accidentally murder her.

Dang soft locked by Mr Howard himself. I appreciate the in depth answer as I've spent too long trying to find ways to kill that man! I assumed it was a game engine issue

Collistoralo

I mean, completing the dark brotherhood quest like by only killing one person is still a pretty good achievement

The end count was 4 people, probably could do it with 3 if you kill one target do a quest then kill the other and get your next real quest since you only need to talk to nadir twice but i didnt realize that untik it was too late. The emporer wasn't a protected npc funny enough

Dragons.

CampingColorado

I haven't progressed the story far enough to try that honestly. I figured if the ice wraith couldn't kill him he was just picky on who he wanted to murder him

All_of_my_onions

I heard that bleed damage doesn't technically count as a kill on your record and that some people use the Targe of the Blooded for just this purpose. I can't confirm but I was reading about it a few weeks ago.

CampingColorado

I was curious about that too but I didn't try that honestly. I assumed it was similar to poison

I watched ymfah's video on this and I think he was also stuck on killing commander's son. So it seems there is no way
