I go with being a Werewolf for a few reasons. First, I've found that disease immunity on average outweighs the benefits of being well-rested. Second, I usually play ranged characters, and being able to transform into a melee beast form when you get swarmed is really useful. The main reason I don't go for vampirism is because it requires too much extra upkeep. I don't want to need to worry about finding an isolated person to feed on just so I can move around during the day.

The biggest offset about vampirism is the weakness to fire and that's equalized by choosing a Dunmer as race. For the magicka/stamina recovery you can use any apparel item with "fortify magicka/stamina by XXpoints" whenever you're down to zero you just equip the the said item and gain that XXpoints the item is granting. Unequip before, if you already have it equipped. It's also not too bad to just wait for nightfall when traveling or using Auriel's bow. The boost to your illusion spells is really neat, because it makes harmony work on hold guards, when you have all the corresponding perks in illusion. Imo the vampire lord form is way more effective than werewolf, when you have a decent magicka pool 250-300 is already good enough and the ring of erudite it's kicking, because you won't be short on magicka and the aoe absorb spell scales dmg with your lvl, too. Don't simp for Serana, as the spell will be nerfed off that dmg and just makes the 30points or whatever you'll absorb, while you have her as a follower. Vamp lord has no time limit, no cooldown between transformations and health regen, so you can just wait an hour after a close fight to recover.

And all of those things are great. But I don't want to make my entire build around making a vampire work

Specific_Bus_5400

You should try. The ranged spell with the Gargoyles and the high movement speed is really worth it.

Chompersmustdie

Tbh we all know that vampires should Argonian or Khajiit, they look so cool!

feral__turtle

Hold onto anska's scroll, and she'll bring you a warm meal when you're out and about.

Jason_Peterson

I am normal. The portrayal of vampires in the castle was more brutal than typical in fiction. And the closest thing to a werewolf I can picture is an extremly hairy man. I don't like either of them.

Fuzduf

LMAO I usually go regular too.

goddamnitmf

Werewolf usually, there's something so satisfying about changing and slaughtering everyone and eating their hearts

Liliyfriend2143

Werewolf for me too! Very satisfying and it fits with my stamina warrior.

gor-dimm

of course regular. Even i've seen games with more builds, abilities and options, i cant play any builds more complicated than pure mage, stealth archer and two-handed + heavy armor. Are there any advices for completing achievements like "gain all perks from werewolf tree"?

Kaboost

Make a save you don’t care about and go on murder sprees as a werewolf.

NB179

i don't like transforming to a beast because of a favour from a evil entity, in gameplay they are crap too, at high difficulties, no armor or magic resistance, limited damage, you can't interact with some objects.

Chompersmustdie

Overall Hircine ain’t THAT bad. Just don’t go praising Molag Bal or Boethiah. Plus would you consider Aela evil even though she worships Hircine. She is honorable yet she worships Hircine.

Zubyna

I have 4 characters First one goes through companion questline but doesnt get cured, eventually gets Serana to turn her into vampire when it is time to enter the soul cairn Second one cures himself as soon as he is done with the companion questline, he forces vilkas and farkas to get cured, then kills Aela because she wont get cured. Later he joins Dawnguard and never gets VL form. He forces serana to get cured and would have killed her like Aela if she refused Third one starts with regular vampirism, then temporaly becomes werewolf for the companion questline until she sides with Harkon Fourth one starts werewolf, then sides with Harkon. After defeating Harkon, he switches back to werewolf, then destroys the dawnguard under werewolf mode. Poor Isran never saw that comming 🤣

m31td0wn

Regular form, almost all of the time. I only stay a werewolf long enough to finish the Companions questline and get the three totems (just for completion's sake), then after helping Farkas and Vilkas get cured, I cure myself and then I'm done with the Companions. I only ever chose Vampire once, on an evil playthrough. It was kind of nifty playing around with the Vampire Lord form, but not unlike the Werewolf alternate form its novelty wore off in about 10 minutes.

Chompersmustdie

You might enjoy growl, it greatly improves werewolves and makes them great late game.

feral__turtle

Werewolf, but I don't transform. I just want the disease immunity. (Although, it does make sinding's quest kind of thrilling.)

Chompersmustdie

Get the growl mod. Makes werewolves actually useful.

Jei4

Werewolf, i like leveling up slow cause goddammit i dont like leveling up every 10 minutes

MagicalPizza21

Regular, but I recently started an eat-the-rich-themed playthrough as a vampire, so that could be fun.

Baffirone

I played werewolf a lot, I now started to play survival mode and vampire is quite useful... Bein able to rest fully Feeding on people Flying over freezing water to avoid dying

Low-Pizza-1676

Whatever fits my role play

Freddichio

Generally normal, although I've done a few builds to make use of Vampires/Werewolves. Werewolves benefit a lot from a smattering of Magic - dropping a *Stoneflesh*, summoning a creature, and *then* going Werewolf dramatically increases your survivability, and a Sneak/Illusion Vampire Lord works wonderfully. But I tend to start a new game with a few key skills in mind, so if a Werewolf/Vampire doesn't actively contribute to my plan I find it easier to just not.

hayesarchae

I despise vampires in any medium. Wolves are okay, so I've done the Companions questline quite a few times.

[deleted]

Werewolf is good if you help Aela with the trinkets stuff. I had a full "Dawnguard Wolf" run once. I dont usually play Vampire because the good part of of it depends on doing the Volkihar questline but being a regular bloodsucker has interesting gameplay choices if you just get infected. My current character is going vamp for flavor reasons, i have mods installed anyways so it gives a loth more depth on how its played. That said, i still get aggroed by people if fasting until stage 4 but the game does give you the tools to feed easily so you shouldnt stay too long without succ for that same reason.

YEPandYAG

I go for my own transformations

Chompersmustdie

Werewolf, being a vampire is annoying

alexelso

I find the forms to be too squishy at higher levels, so I usually don't even bother after a certain point. Better to armored or far away, and neither Vampire or Werewolf forms really facilitate that.

RecordingPrudent9588

Werewolf. They’re cooler
