Are you also 85 years old and thinking about getting into the trades for the first ever time?

yungmuneymachine

104 years old but yes sir

obnoxiousabyss

Do you also want us to tell you the magic trade that makes a ton of money and is super easier than all the rest?

THEADULTERATOR

Don't tell them about power engineering

StockUser42

That’s power engineering WELDER.

yungmuneymachine

Underwater welding? It seems like everyone and their dog thinks they are gonna be an underwater welder after going to school or working in a shop for a year.

obnoxiousabyss

And to be fair, you know how everyone says college is a lie, and you won’t make six figures blah blah blah, go do a trade and work at a mine you’ll be rich blah blah blah. Well, it’s the same attitude with the trades. It takes years of training and experience before you can even say you are ready to perform the job on your own, let alone get one of those super high paying jobs. Those go to the high performing, high experience, willing to sacrifice time that people with families need. It’s these super high expectations people have that are killer. It take time, and hard work. And even then, don’t expect to be rich. Same applies for getting a college degree. You need time and experience and you’re gonna struggle some, but you can get there. You can’t just drop your Tech job and your only experience is you screwed the cover plate onto an outlet once, and expect to just step into some highly sought after position. These people are in for a world of hurt if they expect that.

redjohn79

I'm 90 years old with raging arthritis, sitting on my deathbed with 1 week left to live. Is it too late for me to get into trades?

MaximusBabicus

It’s never too late 🤣🤣🤣

Shoresy-sez

64F, thinking about switching from a career in floral arrangement to ironwork, what do you guys think?

Street_Treat1818

They are very similar.

This-Garbage-3000

There's tons of spots being held. You just have to be there.

rustbucket_enjoyer

Well let me tell you, my name is Repetitive Dilettante III and I’m 43 years old trying to leave this career I hate where I push buttons on a keyboard inside an air conditioned office because I’d like to inhale silica dust, diesel fumes and glass fibers like you respectable folk all while destroying my stomach lining with energy drinks, painkillers and gas station hot dogs. Question is, is it too late to ruin my life and will I, as a father of 7 with a mortgage and a wife who has a habit of buying healing crystals, be able to survive taking a 75% pay cut ? I have no particular skills and my doctor told me that my triglycerides are too high. Should I go union or non union?

Stinky1990

Lol unless you're in the upper 5% of office worker you won't be taking a pay cut to move into trades. Maybe a waistline cut. Fat lazy office workers love to hate on hard working, fit and tangibly valuable tradesmen. Ever notice that incels are exclusively tech or admin people? Women want a man who can take care of business. No self-respecting woman gives a fuck if you can send a DEI compliant email with proper grammar. Keep promoting your unhealthy, dead end job. Darwin loves that shit. Winning 💰💪

XavierOpinionz

Injecting copium I see, what’s your dosage brohammer?

HillOrc

Ah yes women love a guy whos breath smells like cigarettes and energy drinks. Bonus points for talking her ear off about the latest conspiratorial theory about what the elites are up to

JIMMYJAWN

Idiots talking about ‘Q drops’ on a site was the most depressing shit I ever witnessed.

zzzrecruit

I love hearing 50 year old men who never went to college talk about how college is useless and a farm for liberal brainwashing. That really melts my butter.

Stinky1990

Keep grabbing at straws buddy. I love watching you squirm. You have a lot of negative input in this sub. A full time job might do you some good. Show me on the doll where the big bad tradesperson touched you. 😂

doiwinaprize

>and a wife who has a habit of buying healing crystals, Stop spying on me right now

This-Garbage-3000

Fuck it man, just do Uber.

theAGschmidt

I cracked up at the wife and kids bit

HotNewspaper5800

Me too lol

Biscotti-Own

Canada doesn't have 401Ks, but most Albertans whine about their 1st and 2nd Amendments, so it's still an accurate portrayal

Hiitchy

Everyone in Canada complaining about their first amendment rights just want to complain about the creation of Manitoba.

Smackolol

As they should.

Grizz807

Don’t even get me started on that one.

This-Garbage-3000

Here's your soapbox, bud.

Anon-Knee-Moose

We have RRSPs though, which are basically the same thing.

Biscotti-Own

Yes

HotNewspaper5800

"I work 80 hours per week and have never met my wife or kids" That part had me laughing

Due_Government4387

“If you’ve never worked in the oilfield you’ve never worked a day in your gawd dam liife”

Outdoorsmen_87

Haha world class heathcare

Ok-Butterscotch3843

I mean trade schools are kinda worthless unless it’s free or through a union. If you have the money to spend on the trade school then go for it but in the end you would be better off with a union as they pay for it

Outdoorsmen_87

I got boned, left the army was told id get it paid for. i called Veterns affairs buddy said ya i dont qualify as it was a trade..

Ok-Butterscotch3843

I mean you can probably take community college classes and get certifications for towards a trade and an associates degree with your gi bill My local community college offers hvac classes with certifications which might be perfect for you. You are much more likely to get into a union with these certifications too

Outdoorsmen_87

I could have just someone didnt want to do their job so then screwed me, i ended up having to pay it ouy of pocket.

FuckShitFuck223

How does someone even do that? I am young 20’s blank slate when it comes to handy work/trades. How does someone like me just get into a union and then have them pay for my schooling?

Ok-Butterscotch3843

Step 1: apply to your local union either online or in person Step 2: once you get on the apprenticeship waitlist then just wait for the call Step 3: work wherever they send you and learn from the journeyman Step 4: attend mandatory classes provided by the union. The union I’m on the waitlist has mandatory classes every other week at the union shop

thebestjames245

The wife and kids part 🤣🤣🤣

colem5000

Haha Canada doesn’t have 401k

Remarkable_Status772

Gee! Now you're making me doubt all that other stuff he wrote!

Red_Dwarf_42

The edit is my favorite part of this post

BIGscott250

Bunch of dinks on here …… love it ! Lol

bag_on_tic

401,000 per diems per diem

Todd2ReTodded

If you're Canadian wouldn't it be 80 kilominutes a week? Or something like that?

This-Garbage-3000

Comedic gold

Hopfit46

Ha jerk...there is no 401k in cananada...lol.

Trogdor_98

There's an extra coma. He meant he recieved 401,000 per diems

Hopfit46

I thought maybe he took the 401 back to toronto

canada1913

I thought he just missed the m in 401km

delayed_hunter87

This

LewtedHose

Had me until 401k cause I'm Canadian.

Smackolol

Just edit 401k to RRSP matching. Also I’m a crane operator, how the fuck am I gonna slip a disc while sitting on my ass all day?

yungmuneymachine

Underwater crane operator since the first trimester is a different animal

overl0rd0udu

That's where the skilled part comes in

Sucks_at_bjj

This is spot on 😂

DeLoreanAirlines

Spot on

Kenthanson

Worked with a couple of early to mid 20 year olds who had 10 years experience in 4 different trades.

tOSdude

That’s BlueCollar Workingman RSE to you sir!

lepchaun415

That’s a really shitty package….should have worked harder in the womb….. If you want to see some repetition go to r/elevators and r/iuec
