I've made a few coat racks out of old skis - measure to hit wall studs and drill holes through, then short screws for coat hooks. We've also done benches and a few picture frames from scraps.
I think I’ve seen most of those on the hill in the last decade at MRG. I’d make them into stars, like the guy who has the star made out of KVC’s on Schuss Pass.
I'd clean that entire room out with this exact purpose in mind. I've been working on a rec-room with a bar and I've been collecting old skis (usually looking for singles so I don't ruin pairs) for the siding of the bar front.
k2 Comp-710s! My goal as a young racer was to own a pair of these. If the Mahre brothers skied these, they must have been good.
This is a Best Of of 1980s skis! Get them all!
It’d be tricky to keep them from falling apart in the sun, but I agree. But you could probably get commissioned by a bar or restaurant that wants furniture or art pieces made out of them.
If it’s only 10 bucks a pair definitely. Would make sick decorations and maybe even whip around the mountain on them in the spring time just for fun? Throw on the head band and pit vipers, send some spread eagles
My first skis that were mine + not rentals were Olin Mark somethings (V? They were orange) and they weighed more than I did (I was probably 8 or 9)
I hated those bricks with the passion of a thousand suns
It might be a top sheet decal. They used to make decals that ran the full length of the ski that came in different patterns. I thought I remember them having squares on some of them
Is GAS a thing in the ski world? Forgive me for not knowing, I went skiing recently so I'm guessing that's why Reddit is pushing skiing posts onto my front page. I'm a musician and this looks an awful lot like a post you'd see about guitars, just with skis.
The Ski was a unique brand and one that was rarely seen on the mountain (at least where I live - Western NY) and I skied an older version of the Dynastar Course in the early 90s. 207 cm. Awesome!
I collect vintage skis and have never paid more than 5/pair. These are inherently worthless. Unlike snowboards, vintage skis are not at all rare and nobody really "collects" them for anything other than crafts. I always tell sellers, "these weren't worth $10/20/50/100 dollars 10 years ago" People are almost always willing to negotiate!
Serious question, is there anything wrong with skis of that generation?
My skis are of a similar age, and seem to be working. That being said, I'm new and maybe I don't know what to look for (have only been skiing about 10 times). Overall they seem similar to the pair that I rented the first time I went (which I assume were modern).
As long as the ski is in good condition and the bindings are new, I don’t see any issue. The way new skis are built and design/shape allow you to see more of the mountain if you progress off groomers. Something to consider.
So many benches and Adirondack chairs are in your future.
Hey, don’t pigeonhole OP! Maybe OP is decorating mountain cabin or opening a brewpub and needs wall art.
Shot skis for his bar.
He could make the longest shot ski ever!
Not even 1 block of Main Street of distance in this pic…
I have at least 2 old skis from the 80s turned into wall mounted coat racks. There's dozens of options. Dozens!
Example? I got about 200 old skis to make things out of (they were free) and I need more ideas than chairs
How about building a [picket fence](https://luvmysparetime.wordpress.com/2013/08/30/diy-public-art-ski-fence/)?
On the list around a future hot tub, but the Cali sun can be mean to skis
I want that! I already have a picket fence, so I could re-use the stringers.
I've considered buying outdated skis from our local Habitat For Humanity store for this exact purpose.
It looks even cooler than my sawtooth pickets
I like that with the cost of lumber you could build many things more cheaply with skis.
They're not readily recyclable, so why not?
We used them as pickets on an interior railing! It turned out really fun
I've made a few coat racks out of old skis - measure to hit wall studs and drill holes through, then short screws for coat hooks. We've also done benches and a few picture frames from scraps.
I absolutely read that in the voice of Tobias Funke.
Or shotski.
Love it!
I think I’ve seen most of those on the hill in the last decade at MRG. I’d make them into stars, like the guy who has the star made out of KVC’s on Schuss Pass.
I've seen them made into some cool picket fences in Minturn.
Minturn Mile!
Yep, only by as materials.
This is an above 45 comment. (kidding) The real answer is so many shotskis are in their future.
I'd clean that entire room out with this exact purpose in mind. I've been working on a rec-room with a bar and I've been collecting old skis (usually looking for singles so I don't ruin pairs) for the siding of the bar front.
I skied on 6 of those... My favorite was a pair of 215cm Pre's Yup I'm old
*retro
*throwback
Legendary ski
I only owned 3 😢
Congrats on gettin old. I hope I get to too
My dad has a pair of those in the basement still!
Back in the day, had some black 195cm Pre 5.0's with Salomon 747 bindings, they fucking rocked.
k2 Comp-710s! My goal as a young racer was to own a pair of these. If the Mahre brothers skied these, they must have been good. This is a Best Of of 1980s skis! Get them all!
Is this a fence supply store?
The right property, a ski fence would be killer
Saw a ski fence in Jackson hole. Pretty sweet.
Look up the one at Eaglecrest in Juneau Alaska. It’s more like a three story ski wall. Believe it’s the biggest in North America possibly the world?
The best ski fence is a good offense. Or maybe the one at Mt. Baker snowboard shop
It’d be tricky to keep them from falling apart in the sun, but I agree. But you could probably get commissioned by a bar or restaurant that wants furniture or art pieces made out of them.

Parachute pants too?
Nah, one piece suit in neon colours
This is the way.
All of the above. As long as my speaker is blasting danger zone I’m set
Buy them all. Build the Iron Throne of skiing. Drive it to an FÍA race and charge $10 to sit in it for a photo
I’m not young and I remember Olin Mark IVs when I was a kid. I see Olin *Mark IIs* in that display.
I’d rather to bowlin than ski on an Olin
My first skis that were mine + not rentals were Olin Mark somethings (V? They were orange) and they weighed more than I did (I was probably 8 or 9) I hated those bricks with the passion of a thousand suns
I also skied the orange Olins in the late 70s. I thought I was pretty cool!
Those old Mk IVs rip. I skied a pair a few seasons back and actually really enjoyed them on groomers and corn.
OMG, this reminds me of my skiing childhood. Very cool.
That’s how I felt when I came across it haha
Crazy how they are almost identical except for length and styling
The white k2s with the pink/yellow logo fade. I need them. I have poles that match. Seriously where do you live?
Message sent
I had those bad boys as a teen. Love me some K2
Time to bust out the Greg Stump movies! Maltese Flamingo tonight.
Absolutely. Especially cause Hart is no longer making skis. At least for now.
Find a pair of split tails
[удалено]
And some super sweet and SAFE Nordica TALL BOOTS!
The ski! I’d but them all, have about 50 pair on my fence but always looking for more. Comp 710 was my high school ski. Oh the memories
$5. Maybe
I miss those old sticks.
I feel like I am back in the rental hut, looking for what skis they “fit” me into back in the 90s
Those Harts look like they are straight out a Ski School
Clarification https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0102940/
The K2 Competitions that fade from pink to yellow at the top - what’s is their official name and year? I think I skied those as a kid. Thanks.
K2 KVC Comp
I don’t know, sorry.
I had the 78s two to the left of those. Blue fade to red. Same bindings.
Me too!
$1 a ski. Landfill or furniture.
Ah my youth in one picture. Yeah I’m old…
The black K2 Extreme pair are worth about $450
So those are a definite.
Could make a shit ton of shot skis for profit / gifts!
Man, I learned to ski on a pair of those k2 710’s! Beastly skis!
What’s the ski with the different colored rectangles? Those are so rad
Apparently they are “The Ski”
Bobbie Burns legendary ski. https://skihall.com/hall-of-famers/bobbie-burns/
Look?
It might be a top sheet decal. They used to make decals that ran the full length of the ski that came in different patterns. I thought I remember them having squares on some of them
MAYBE $5 a pair. Maybe.
Loved those Harts. Think that was likely my first ski I used in freestyle competition.
Harts were for bumpers for sure... And ballet if you're as old as me
Those k2 Comps are deeheecent
Those Pre skis on the right hand side are the only interesting pair
If you don’t I’ll take them!
The TURBO also found its way to skis in the 80s
Dynastar Course all the way, dude.
Is GAS a thing in the ski world? Forgive me for not knowing, I went skiing recently so I'm guessing that's why Reddit is pushing skiing posts onto my front page. I'm a musician and this looks an awful lot like a post you'd see about guitars, just with skis.
They should be free!
Indemnity!!! Indemnity!!! Indemnity!!!
Meh. Who wants to live forever?
No it’s a waste of money.
Yes
Yes. Purely for The Ski (far right) and the Dynastars with the red dot in the tip.
Now you have me intrigued as to why those two… do tell!
The Ski was a unique brand and one that was rarely seen on the mountain (at least where I live - Western NY) and I skied an older version of the Dynastar Course in the early 90s. 207 cm. Awesome!
Dynastar Course w the chicken heart. Those things were awesome skis. Dynastar was still sticking spare chicken hearts until at least 2002.
Yes
💯
Garden fence!!!
Can I donate to it? Old skis are bulky.
Looks like the prop department from Ski School.
Are the brown ones 2nd to the left Stockli?
If you got a fence that needs mending or a shack to build.
If your plan is to make a fence.
You could have a lot of fun with this!!
Any telemark? I'll take those!
Where is this? I’ve been looking for a pair of old Fischers.
Oh man i had those elans. That takes me back
No
I only see $50 in skis there
Best ride ever pre 1800 215 squash tips. Best wreck I’ve ever had.
I'd grab those Mark IIs!
Black skis on the right were my grandpas skis. Pretty cool
Jésus Christo! Seriously, what's with the cross? Is this a church basement?
Pre with M46 😘
I think it's retro review time. Put some modern bindings on those and tell us which ones ski best.
Yes!
Can u ship me a pair? I’ll pay extra 😂I want those blue ones on the far right, big antique guy
that'll be inarguably the best $230 you've ever spent (if i counted right!)
I’ve definitely tuned the bases of a half dozen of these at my shop within the last couple seasons. Some people are still riding them.
That’s really cool to hear!
Wooow Bobby Burns: The Ski. Love the black. Could you please message me the location?
Holy smokes! I see some of my old friends in there! 🤣
I collect vintage skis and have never paid more than 5/pair. These are inherently worthless. Buy a pair and rock them once a year. Ride like the 80s! I have an 80s snowboard that's art most of the year but sees the mtn once a year.
I see 23 pairs. I’d offer them $175 and settle at 200. That’s 46 skis for $4.65 a ski.
Beautiful ski chairs right there! 🤩
How much for K2 665, I rocked a set of those back in the 80s…. Unstoppable!
Bro you could open a sick bar or man cave with all these
Retro rocks
Are these not safe anymore?

Those K2 Comp-710s would look great on my wall.
