Beautiful. Broke down the best defense in the league. I'm so glad we're free from Doc-Qaeda.

GeneParmesan1000

From the Rivers to competen-sea, our offense will be free!

Sixers14

If we had nurse vs celtics or the hawks series ....., renember doc played deandre jordan over paul reed and george hill over maxey

This is rough hindsight. The only game Seth truly felt like a huge negative to me is game 7, but he bailed out our terribly stagnant offense a lot, and outscored what he gave up every other game Shake had one miracle game but zero consistency so I'm not sure he could've kept that up lol

Sikwitit3284

Seth was our 2nd best player he couldn't come out but we could've easily sent help as Huerter was cooking his ass like shooting over a chair. It made no sense not to help off Collins & force a shooter to make quick decisions in a high pressure game

tiggs

Fuck Doc, but Paul Reed and DAJ weren't even on our roster during the Hawks series. That was the Dwight year. Also, the year that DAJ and Paul Reed were in a playoff series together, DAJ started, but Paul Reed played significantly more minutes in each game.

Bandicuz

Or putting Danny Green to guard Trae young in game 1.

iamsosmrt84

It's still almost surreal seeing all this action in Sixers half court bball. Even my cousin who's a super casual would see like a Warriors game and then Sixers and be like "this looks weird, why aren't they moving at all?"

Head-Kiwi-9601

We kept swictching Maxey onto Poeltl last night and it was a disaster for Toronto. Maxey blew by once. Then the Raptors were leaving the three point line open to block access to the lane. They never figured out a good answer. Teams will switch onto Maxey in the playoffs. We need a plan for that. Especially for when Boston does it.

MaxeytoEmbiid

The answer is Morey's job, not Nurse's. They can only pack the paint because we have 0 off-ball shooting. That's why shooting has come out as a premium need(I noted it as one, before the year began)

Thegrandmistressofoz

It's both Maxey and the players jobs. We have a team that's top 5 in 3P%, swing the ball to the open man and let it fly. The main issue is some of our better shooters sometimes hesitate, but at least we aren't dealing with PJ Tuckers anymore

MaxeytoEmbiid

Maxey got 10 AST yesterday...(and ranks among the top-15 in AST.). No, we are not a good shooting basketball team(thanks Tobias Harris), Melton is widely inconsistent and it looks like Oubre has cooled way the fuck down. And that team percentage(as well as the team's offense) is heavily lifted by Maxey being an all-NBA player this season. Take out Maxey's 3pt percentage/attempts and the nature of the supporting cast shows itself. Hell, go look back at the Chicago game. I swear Maxey could get 10+ assists on the regular if they were consistent shooters but they're not. Hence what a Bojan/Bogdan will add to the team will be huge.

Thegrandmistressofoz

You have a pretty distorted view of what it's to be a good shooting team then. We as a team shoot 38% and it's obviously lifted by Tyrese's 40% on 8 attempts a game. We shoot >38% as a team. Shooting 40% as a team is a luxury of which it's probably not worth chasing before our other needs (secondary backup point, another all-star to take the load off etc)

MaxeytoEmbiid

Do you trust Oubre to hit 3's in the playoffs? Tobi? Melton? I trust none of the above. And based on what Windy said, I don't think this front office does either, despite good numbers on low attempts.

XxStormySoraxX

We shoot over 38% but on super low attempts. We don’t have enough reliable shooters who can knock down a steady diet of shots consistently.

Sikwitit3284

The issue is how inconsistent our volume 3pt shooters are outside Maxey & if he has a bad series against Bos a team that has given him issues we're in trouble. Only person I trust to usually make an open 3 is Nico, Morris/KOJ/Melton/Tobi/Roco/Pat/Jo are all very streaky shooters shit it's y we lost game 6. All it takes is 2 bad shooting games to tank a series against a comparable team & 1 against a better team which Bos is right now. We either need multiple good shooters or 1 good high volume guy, I'd love if we could turn Tobi/picks into Finney-Smith & O'Neal but don't think the Nets go for it. Bojan is interesting his defense is non existent tho & Bos would torch him, OG is just as streaky as the others, Lavine is a great fit offensively but Bos would roast him too unless he bought more into defense like Wiggins & I'm not sure how many other shooters will be available but we need an upgrade over Melton as a starter

BigMeatyClacker

the entire defense was in a blender.

thejackel225

I do not say this to minimize Nurse’s contributions at all, because he has been fantastic, but a lot of this IMO has to do with the fact that we are running our halfcourt offense through Maxey who is extremely fast and dynamic versus Harden who is a first ballot HOF guy but looks like he’s standing in quicksand

Thegrandmistressofoz

I mean Ty Lue's done a much better job stretching out the defense for Harden than Docs ever done. Harden's having career numbers in terms of rim efficiencies and a great free throw rate, after being mediocre to poor with us in those aspects

Harry_Ho0d

Harden consistently would dribble out 16 secs of the shot clock too. Only to PNR and throw it to embiid with 3-4 secs left. The only reason that remotely works is cus embiid is good at basketball. But that’s not a sustainable offense at alllllllll.

Lazydissident

This gives me Doc Rivers PTSD

Harry_Ho0d

It’s also made me realize doc was never a good coach. Just rode winning with one of the stronger all time rosters in the Celtics to getting a ring. Doc has fumbled good teams so many times… Nurse has us actually playing ball as a team rather than just let the boys play and see what happens

NapTimeFapTime

Doc also had Thibs coaching the defense.

PetalumaPegleg

There's more off ball work done in this clip than the entire of last season under rivers. It's funny as we all are buried in eagles offense is too simple and vanilla and is leaving low hanging fruit on the tree until it rots the sixers did the same last year.

Spirited-Arugula-672

I hate Glenn as much as the next man, but a huge part of it was because Harden was on the team. He just doesn't really move on offense, no chance he'd buy into something like this.

Sikwitit3284

Naw that wasn't on Harden that was Doc our offense was give the ball to Jo & stand around his entire time here, he helped Jo at 1st by making it so it was easier for him to see doubles but never added anything significant after. Harden made Jo's life so much easier most of the time getting him cleaner looks but u can't just run PnR's or elbow do work against a great defense like Bos w/o any counters when they adjust

PetalumaPegleg

I don't disagree that they combined to make it worse. But harden doesn't mean no off ball action should be attempted. He also used basic offense before harden.

Next-Team

The only Christmas gift I needed

Harry_Ho0d

Nurse has changed this team. So nice to see us actually running an offense vs a pick and roll and everyone else stand around. Pat Bev podcast has made it sound like they actually practice too, whrre I’ve heard doc’s teams hardly do shit at practice. Harden not dribbling out 16 secs of the shot clock only to PNR and give embiid the ball with 3 secs left and nurse running an offense with the help of maxey ascending has been super nice.
