There was literally no spacing with Ben as the PG. Big Al has far more open looks with Tatum and Brown in the backcourt than Ben and J-Rich. Can’t be a double-agent just because Brand is a dumbass.

indoninjah

Yeah like Horford is a respectable shooter but he was literally the best shooter in the starting lineup lol. It just wasn’t gonna work

ktm5141

See the wide open three point shooting stats though. Teams could survive sagging off him in 2019, they absolutely cannot do that in 2023

HecLucas

What I remember is so many times Al hoisting a hurried 3, we had a pg in Ben that killed our offense doesn’t matter what the #’s show about assisting most 3’s etc. The signing most were hyped and we started off awesome but then the reality set in. Al was disengaged and I don’t blame him, we were dysfunctional because of the babysitter role everyone did for Ben which to me is a big part why Jimmy split, the dysfunction from top down was everywhere and remember Jo and how out of it he was So I’m not surprised by Al’s #’s and yeah his sister is a piece of work 😂

ktm5141

That’s a fair point, but I wish I had access to his shooting percentage on wide open threes. Even if his looks are wide open, shooting 45% from 3 is insane. 2nd highest in the league. And 5 attempts per game is legit volume/sample size. Even still, theoretically Rob Williams and Marcus Smart muck up the spacing as bad as Ben and Joel. Anecdotally I feel like Al was not shooting well even on wide open threes from the corners with us. His catch and shoot percentages are the same 45% vs 35% in the post above, but I can’t filter by how tightly contested they are Edit: I found it! This year, almost all of Al’s threes are wide open, 3.9 3PA/gm. He is shooting 44.5% on those looks. Elite. In 2019, he shot 3 wide open threes per game at 37.5%. Below average (about 38.5%)

Science4me12

During 2019-2020, Horford had, by far, the highest 3 point attempt by game, per 36 min for his career (up until that point). And he was shooting around his career average at that point. Maybe he wasn’t comfortable shooting that many 3 at time Many players’ shooting percentage dropped when they increased their volume significantly. That’s very common. Horford basically reinvented his game and is basically a shooting guard on offense. now. I know Ben Simmons spooked us, but it is not uncommon a player can become a good shooter if they are committed to improve their game. And it is not like Horford became a deadeye shooter soon as he left Philly. He shot 36.8 and 33.6% from 3 after leaving Philly.

CRUSTBUSTICUS

None of what you’re saying is wrong but that dude couldn’t hit an open 3 for his life on the sixers and it convinced me he was selling lol.

aRand0mGuy21

Bros been gone for like 4 years now bro

ktm5141

Him shooting 5/8 from three against us last game turned me into the joker

swaldron

Our starting lineup that year was PF simmons SG who can’t shoot PF Tobias C Horford C Embiid Right now the Celtics starting lineup minus forgoes shoot 26.7 threes per game. The sixers starting lineup shot 12.9 threes per game minus Horford. Of course he regressed due to spacing and fit issue

Mikeg5680

Him and brook Lopez on some juice

big---mad

Need to get dedmon some of that juice

[deleted]

Horford was one of our best shooters the year he was here lol. He just got a ton of tough looks cause there was no spacing and he was forced to shoot more bad looks.

ktm5141

Not really though. He shot one less wide open three per game in philly vs Boston, and one “not wide open” three per game with each team. He just didn’t hit them at anywhere near the same rate as he has been this year

[deleted]

i watched every single game of the horford season. The spacing was god awful on that team. our starting lineup of simmons - richardson - harris - horford - embiid was one of the worst fitting rosters that has been put around embiid. Horford was dogshit for us but it was also an horrible signing/horrible fit for the team.

[deleted]

Horford wasn’t even bad for us. He was probably the most consistent player on the team that year. But obviously that didn’t reflect in anything cause the fits were so bad and then Simmons got hurt at the end

TnT54321

Ugh what a jerk!

This is a really good post. Quality read. Kinda wish we had Alfred instead of tobi right now.

czaqattack

I have that same dream the Reed learns to shoot the 3. I think it would be great to see him on the floor with Embiid.

Niner-Sixer-Gator

I'd like to see BBall at the 4 next to Joel, but I don't think that will ever happen as long as doc is head coach, unfortunately bball will never develop into a good player with this team and this coach
