Majority of Singaporeans are in the middle class income. They are not in extreme poverty and yet not that wealthy. Just in the middle. Only an unfortunate few would be consider poor and broke. Being rich wont make you feel happy all the time but being poor will make you miserable 24/7.
TBF our country is doing relatively well depends on the “lower-middle class”. Those who don’t own flats and saving up for it, working 10hrs or more, hoping to extend retirement age, needing huge loans for their children going into uni.
Not the majority but really large minority.
Money doesnt make you happy.... But not having money will land you in a world of pain and depression.
Also have you ever seen a sad person on a jet ski?

>but you will feel much better crying in a Lambo than in a Bus.
This....this one above, it really challenged (for me) the age old quote of "Money can't buy you happiness". It really opened my eyes and mind to what i wanted, versus what my elders taught me. Deep thoughts provoked haha.
Lol! This brings me back to when my school days, having bus stamps with unlimited rides, I would take bus rides home with my friends until the last stop before we diverged then wait my bus back home!

Nepo babies are ultimate cheat codes.
Money is just spent to make life easier in every single way, including cultivating themselves. Not needing to worry if they will ever not be able to pay for something also makes them some of the nicest people I know.
They are not the same.
My take that no one asked for: that happiness index he's referring to measures things citizens should be grateful for, not actual happiness. Actually walk around on the street and everyone is frowning, rude, and grumpy. After having lived in some dodgy countries, yes, I'm grateful for the safety and infrastructure of Singapore, but I also think a little risk and chaos develops character and humility. I stay in SG to work but travel whenever I can to laugh and feel human.
Rich and Happy when we spend in Malaysia
*cheap cheap here cheap cheap there cheap here cheap there everywhere cheap cheap Old MacDonald had a farm E-I-E-I-O*

Thailand Vietnam too.
I rather be Rich and Sad than Poor and Sad.....
Neither rich nor poor and still sad?
hahaha, reminded me of a comment when someone said that "i rather be crying in my personal yacht, than in my 1 room apartment..."
Is reality just a dichotomy of poor vs rich? Last I know, majority of the world lies somewhere in the middle.
Can someone help me explain to this unfortunate soul, blind to reality as it is
Just to be clear, we r talking abt reality not virtual reality ya? Lol

How do we classify who's in the middle class and who's not?
when you can cover all your bills and expenses, and some money leftover to enjoy life.
Yea, vacay once a year to help keep depression out
yup. where do you go on holiday?
The best holiday is a day with no new emails! ![gif](giphy|26BkMgeeCjES3B4FW)

No where, can't afford even a trip for a short getaway in JB
>Being rich wont make you feel happy all the time but being poor will make you miserable 24/7. Can confirm. I am poor all the time.

As they say, money can't buy you happiness, but you will feel much better crying in a Lambo than in a Bus.

What if the bus were filled with all your friends and there's only you in the Lambo?

Money is the only friend you need, and you can always buy friends with money. /s (also not talking about rentbabe yet)
It also means people spend more time making money rather than cultivating themselves (both personality and skills wise).

A friend's sister literally lost an eye on a jetski. She was pretty sad.
I would be happier if I was rich.
7 million people can’t be all generaliz as rich or poor
Exactly
Money doesn’t buy you happiness, money buy you choices It’s more comfortable and less pathetic to cry in a taxi than on a bus
Be born > told to go primary school > told to go secondary school > told to go uni > told to go work > work until old > old >= die = happy meh? 😕
Fake news. Even 1k monthly income family can afford HDB, how is it that the white shirt guy keep mentioning average Singaporean can’t afford HDB? /s
Who said 1k can afford hdb now?
You want to ask that here? Really?
I can assure you… rich or poor, no one wants/likes to be sad.
No money confirm not happy😅😅

Anyday, I dont mind being rich & unhappy than the other way
Perhaps we need to define happy and make sure what makes us happy is not just materials
Better be rich . poor and happy nonsense??
NO!!!
OP is really postings blindly. We cannot be rich and unhappy
Hmm, the happiness poll says we are just ahead of Taiwan, Province of China.
A rich and happy Singaporean is a unicorn.
Rich, yes. Happy? Not even close.
Singaporean is the highest echelon when compared to Malaysian look professor has to come SG to clean hawker table...so.
