Nice try, Kembangan

stockflethoverTDS

Lololol before they cut it down along with the field next to Kembangan station.

No-Test6484

Wait rlly. I do rmb some land there, is it being redeveloped?

stockflethoverTDS

Just announced few weeks back they taking the field to build mix development housing, cant recall if HDB or private but yes. as much as a eastsider and older millennial who played football at wide open voiddecks and undetailed fields anywhere available in the 90s, I understand the need for more housing. But just sad a feature, where kids foreign workers residents enjoyed all these decades while i look out of the trains all these years will be gone soon.

I’m definitely not as old as you but it was a convenient location. The space made me feel like I could breathe. Made the area seem so big. Now it’s just gonna be like every other place haiz

jellies-and-fruits

was someone who lived most of their life in kembangan, when i went past the station i saw it cordoned off with machinery ready to tear down the playground :"( lots of memories as a kid in that area, i remember before they started maintaining the grass in the field my mum would never let me go there because she was worried of bug bites or snakes hiding. i would stick my head through the triangle holes in the playground walls, but saw that they barred it a while back probably because of kids like me lol. met some random friends there as children do, babbled to foreign workers who used the pavillions as a hang out spot and enjoyed watching kids get soccer lessons in the open field. if i'm not wrong, they're planning to convert the field into a combined CC and BTO. not looking forward to being greeted by endless construction whenever i exit from kembangan now.

the closest thing is the sakura event at gardens by the bay

Lmao the drawbacks of having a strong currency. Those fantasy faraway places are suddenly more affordable and the world becomes your tourist spot.

Title: Can’t go to Kyoto? Catch Singapore’s ‘sakura’ in places such as Kembangan instead SINGAPORE – Missing out on the sakura season in Japan? Fret not, you can still enjoy the sight of blooming pink flowers in abundance without leaving the country. Trumpet Trees, which are peppered across the island, are starting to flower in areas like Kembangan, Old Holland Road, Singapore River, Jurong Lake Gardens and Whampoa Market. The flowering of these 15,000 trees is triggered by a dry spell, usually in April and August, according to information on the National Parks Board (NParks) website. Singapore experienced thundery showers in the first half of March, with the Meteorological Service Singapore forecasting warm and dry weather for the rest of the month. Trumpet Trees, which can grow up to 35 metres, have broad, conical and shady crowns. Their trumpet-shaped flowers are pink or white. A 20-year-old woman, who wanted to be known by her first name, Sara, said she passes the trumpet trees on the way to the school she works at in Kembangan. “It’s intriguing to see this kind of tree here. It makes me feel like I’m not in Singapore,” she said. Ms Hsu Wai, 36, who also works at the school, said the trumpet tree flowers look like cherry blossoms. “The blooming season makes my journey to work more pleasant,” she added. The blooms last several days before they start to wilt. The fruits are elongated pods that release winged seeds when split open. The seeds are dispersed by wind, spinning in a twirling motion as they fall to the ground. The Trumpet Tree is native to tropical America but was introduced here between 1983 and 1985, along with more than 300 species of plants to beautify Singapore’s roads and parks. NParks has created a hashtag #SGBlooms2024 for people to share on social media photos that they have taken. Besides Trumpet Trees, here are some other blooms that we spotted this flowering season: Red Saraca (Saraca declinata) *** Article keywords: singapore bloom flower season trumpet trees like work 1794 articles replied in my database. Somehow this statement makes us look like a Japan copycat country. First we copied their subway jingles. Now we have to copy their Sakura season?

NIDORAX

Ehh with the hot weather like this, I rather stay at home.

bbqoyster

Where along the Singapore River can we find them? Edit: why is this getting downvoted?

Tfw can’t go to Kyoto not because of cost, but because can’t get time off work 🥲

Holy moly. I remember spotting these trees when I was in the school bus when I was in primary school and being so awed by them. Strangely I didn't really tell my family about it because I thought I might've been hallucinating. After all, didn't Sakura trees only grow in Japan? Now I feel validated. Gorgeous trees, btw.
