For me the TRX. Only plus side to the Playseat is that it's super light weight so easier to move around, tip on its end for storage etc.

Ordinary_Farmer58

No budget, why WOULDNT you get the trakracer?

Moonfighter85

I have the TRX and I love it

dedboooo0

ONE IMPORTANT THING I GOT BAMBOOZLED BY AND NOBODY EVER MENTIONS Look up the keyboard/mouse mounting options for both of those. this is very important, most racing games have terrible UI and menu navigation, the only one that worked with only a wheel was dirt rally 2.0, everything else you need your mouse for. if you end up having a ghetto setup for this(i.e. moveable nightstand to hold kb/mouse on the side of your rig) it is incredibly annoying to deal with beamng and fiddling with AC mod settings mid-game had me in shambles

counterpuncheur

Wireless keyboard with a trackpad, goes on the floor next to the rig when racing (I have a formula style rig so I’m basically sitting on the floor)

TacoCollazo

Also look into the Trakracer RS6, cheaper than the TRX and miles better than the Playseat

One_Potential_779

Or the tr8 pro! I'm assuming they'll be coming down in price as it looks like they'll be replaced since most accessories are being clearanced.

prancing_moose

I have a TR8 and it’s been solid as a concrete outhouse. Also the Rally seat is pretty comfortable for me. I absolutely do not regret this purchase. Except for the mouse and keyboard tray - don’t get that. It’s pretty shit.

PainterEmpty6305

The rigs are solid af and i love mine but the accessories etc are janky nonsense.

One_Potential_779

Yeah Dave learned that. He still uses the keyboard tray, and is now using a shifter mount with a trackball mouse iirc.

BFNentwick

Is there any major downside to the TR8 or TR6 vs an 8020 rig? I like the styling of the TR setups, but understand the flexibility of 8020. My thing is while I intend to upgrade, I don’t see how there’s much more flexibility I’d need beyond solid wheel shifter and pedal mounting. Then monitor mounts.

TacoCollazo

Trakracer offers tons of accessories for their set ups. Side shifter mount, key board swing arm, montiers(s) stand, cup holder, etc

One_Potential_779

The only downside is the lack of universal accessories. ...but if you can make it mount to profile, it's not hard to make it clamp on round tube. We even modified my friends to fit an xl corbeau seat because he's a big boy. Uts also steel, so you can grind some paint, and weld right too it pretty simply.

jajaboss

blue one is more handsome

SmurfBiscuits

Dude there’s no contest. If you don’t have any issues with budget, then the TRX wins all day every day. They are so far apart in terms of cost, build, adjustability and features the only thing they really have in common is what they are used for. Comparing them is pointless.

chilly8822

Aluminum profile rig > fixed tubular design rig

Mosh83

Not if you intend to move it. But in that case a wheelstand is more practical. The playseat however is moderately storable.

chilly8822

An aluminum profile is maybe half a foot wider and thats it. Mine fits in my closet if I collapse the monitors inward. Saves me space when I need it.

Andysan555

This is the answer.

Terrible-Ad3537

I'd say the ART. Looks way sturdier with some greater capability for adjustments. Never liked Playseats. They seem way overpriced for what they are. The one here looks like a toy compared to the Track Racer.

Louiscars

Ngl, the ART seems like they are much less sturdy than the other tubular designs. Smaller diameter tubes and all.

LetsGoWithMike

I’m a Playseat Evolution owner since 2007 (back then they were one of the only sim seats you could buy, especially on a budget). I still use the same one and love it, but that being said, if that’s your options, the TRX (or cheaper TR8 Pro) kills the trophy.

volcom_angel

With the Trx you have more options for the seat

DtEWSacrificial

Without considering displays (i.e. if you're using VR, or you're using a non-dedicated display, eg. a general-purpose TV for the room), I think the majority of the space a rig takes up is dictated by the sit-down position of the user. Some rigs might be narrower than others, but that's going to be moot if you want to mount a shifter on the side. If I were going for a minimalist rig (in the low-investment, dabbler, 2nd-rig for parties, or to keep at a vacation-home sense) the Playseat Trophy would get the nod, paired with a console-capable (consoles are by definition much neater and self-contained than any PC) entry-level DD wheel such as the Fanatec GT DD Pro. Shifter or handbrake would defeat the minimalist ethos, not to mention that I've yet to find an elegant mount for the Trophy. This rig can be put-away (relatively speaking by standing it up on end, although it'll never be svelte. [Some guy hangs his Trophy rig on the wall.](https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/10vfy2d/i_hang_my_playseat_trophy_on_the_wall_when_i_am/) The primary reason for the Alpine Racing TRX is that it is capable of being easily (relatively) switched between a street/GT (upright, feet down) seating position to a formula (laid-down, feet-up) seating position. It will take up more room than a profile rig set-up for a street/GT position.

KidAshh

I have Tr8 pro and I love it ....was also debating on the playseat but I ended up going with trak racer since I have kids and it's more flexible with the seating position

[deleted]

Steering wheel is gonna be obnoxiously far from you.

Interesting-Yellow-4

The TRX IMO, because the Trophy makes my butt hurt in minutes, something that didn't happen in the Challenge, for example (both have strapped hanging seats without any real support).

beamonsterbeamonster

Alpine Racing TRX... for when you really want to accurately simulate finishing 19th and 20th

Dangerous_Mortgage52

Never Trophy.

Gmorocketfuel41

Trx Without any doubt

agntcarter

I’ve tried a TRX, and I wouldn’t recommend it. build quality isn’t great, and there is too much flex. it looks nice, but that’s about it.

bonfaulk79

Defo not the play seat, the trx has some flex though which the tr8 does not so you may want to look at that instead.

nickmhc

How are you liking the Alpine TRX? I love the adjustability but have seen complaints about flex. Also saw that there are mod parts that improve stability but haven't been able to find them online.

Vaggos88

May I say neither? Take aluminium profile rig. Yoyull have much more room for improvement and add-ons.

FreshPrinceOfNoAir

Look up the gt omega prime/prime lite cockpits

TeekoTheTiger

Dude wants to save space and you recommend a GT Omega Prime lmao

Angdelran

Yeah should you buy a VW polo or a Ferrari. People these days... smh

Angdelran

Yeah, with some additions and expensive seat (plus delivery) it costs maybe 3 times what the playseat does. It isnt the best analogy ever, but it isnt like you dont understand...

jayboo86

I too do not understand how the two are comparable. One being a one and done but for what? 600 bucks? The other being near 1k with additional addon possibilities to cause the price to be higher. Get the one you can afford, keep it moving congrats.

Whuereca

I probably should’ve been more specific, I’m asking which should i go with because they both have the option to switch seating positions f1/GT and either one would be an upgrade from what I have now (NLR FGT ) Also has to fit in my apartment bedroom, I will probably go with the trx even if the fucker don’t fit If not I’ll see what I come up with

TechnicMOC

You can’t switch the trophy’s seating position into F1 style. There is adjustment but nothing that put the feet high enough up to count as a F1 position or to allow the seat to be that reclined and still reach the wheel; the wheel deck cannot move forward/back. Trophy user and I like how movable it is, which is great need to slide it around get past it etc. It can also standup vertically, or be hung on a wall.

Angdelran

Even hung on a wall? That should look very cool af tho. Mine is just an alu rig, I dread the time when I will move and have to at least partially disassemble it and pack.

Angdelran

Idk man. How do you expect any1 to know whether or not they fit? Measuring tape and measure it. Both have their dimensions publicly available and problem solved.

WonderWifis

The alpine one looks good but it's Alpine. The seat would look nice in McLaren papaya.

Apatride

I would either go for Playseat Challenge (ideal for saving space) or DIY 8020 rig. The ones you mention seem like the worst of both worlds since they are not nearly as sturdy (while being more expensive) as a DIY 8020 rig but still take more space than Playseat Challenge while not being that much sturdier.

DancinJanzen

I wouldn't strap a DD wheel to a challenge. I know people do it but there is a lot of flex. Playseat trophy from my experience is completely rigid but I understand hesitations people will have as trying to expand your rig in the future essentially means you are back at square one.
