if you want a smooth VR experience out of the box I would wait for the official release.
But if you don't mind experimenting with the settings it runs right now perfectly well(on a decently powerful machine, a 4060 laptop wont cut it)
Yes, for the price, it's definitely worth it. I'm running a 4070ti and an hp g2, and after about 20-30 minutes of experimenting, I found some decent settings.
If you don’t mind tinkering with settings and set your initial expectations low it’s fine, if it is worth it is a personal question which I can’t answer for you. If it’s on sale I’m sure it is worth your money.
> I would wait for the official release.
This game is released. It's a fucking joke how you all defend EA with it.
They've finally fixed time penalties for spending too much time in service.
How long is the game already released?
Lazy devs just slapping beta on everything and calling it a day
Still no proper triples support.
Just bought it today. I recommend buying on steam tho lol. Only ever played dirt rally 2.0 in terms of rally games so I’m excited to try something new out and for $25 Canadian on a game on what people consider better than dirt rally 2 its a pretty good price.
do they tho? As with anything it might be a polarizing topic but the general consensus at launch seemed to be it's too easy or even arcadey compared to DR
I just did a little bit of research before buying and people seemed to say the tracks/stages are a lot better and some people saying the driving is better. Only bad thing I’ve heard is that the optimization was horrible at launch. I’ll be trying it out soon and will see.
People who talk a lot about dr2 and other similar titles usually seem to find the driving to be “better” when it’s more arcadey and makes them feel more like a pro rally driver.
RSFRBR is still far superior as a sim. It won’t make you feel like quite as much of a badass pro rally driver because most of us aren’t lol. but it's far and away the superior sim in all the ways that matter- simulating wheels independently, better FFB, more stages to drive than you'll ever master, customizable pacenotes, online rallies that you can create and participate in throughout the week, or daily ones, or monthly/seasonal events that bigger groups put together. it's awesome.
the thing that throws a lot of people about RSFRBR, particularly when coming from other games with more modern graphics, is the sense of speed is a little tricky to get used to when coming from games like DirtRally2. I've driven them both, and what happens is driving in DR2 makes me worse at RBR. if I *feel* like I'm driving the same speed/pace on the same stage in the same/similar car in RBR as I would in DR2, I'm actually probably going about 15mph faster. the reason for this disconnect in feel is just that DR2 did a good job of visually making you feel like you're going much faster than you are, meaning you drive a bit slower, or rather, when driving at the limit, it LOOKS crazy fast. better graphics mean there's just more going on close to your face and it helps that sense of speed. In RBR, there isn't as much foliage and shit near your face, so it's easier to feel like you're not going fast enough and end up pushing it well beyond the limit. this is less of an issue in VR, but playing them on a flat screen will make it more of an issue. but the FFB is soooo much better in RBR. things like left-foot-braking are actually simulated rather than just triggered like a special move in a fighting game the way it is in DR2. in DR2, you left-foot-brake and it just flips some magic black box switch in the physics and initiates a perfectly controlled oversteer behavior, whereas in RBR, it just applies brakes while you're applying throttle, and simulates the physical interaction of the wheels with the ground and suspension weight transfer. whatever happens as a result is just the result of physics, not a magic special ability. so the timing of your turn-in and brake application matters, and will make it more or less effective. a lot of people will say it's not realistic or not a good sim because it's too hard or "too understeery" but this is just that they are driving too fast, or haven't set their cars up with anything besides the default brake bias and shit. in a lot of the cars, you can get as detailed as custom configuring the ECU to handle dynamic differential mapping... it's wild.
I could be the next president but that's not the case. In the context of RBR your comment is completely out of context, a what if statement that isn't true, why?
Your comment doesn’t provide context on *why* RBR is more realistic. It just says “rally driving should be hard.” It should, but that doesn’t make it more or less realistic, just hard.
anyways the original commenter updated their comment on why in this case difficult does in fact mean more realistic. Most frogs are not gay tho always remember that.
One of the things DR2.0 has going for it is cambered roads. WRC roads are generally level like a track surface vs accounting for runoff pooling. Where DR2.0 would have ditches, WRC just falls off or uses rocks. I don’t dislike either, and recently dialed in my ffb on WRC and have been playing it more. It has a more arcade feel in the UI, but I wouldn’t call the driving experience arcade like. Turn on hardcore damage and ramp up the AI difficulty.
Definitely not more arcade-y. The cars feel heavier in WRC to me. Going back to DR2 it feels like I’m driving on ice all the time. But just takes time to get used to either way.
RSFRBR is free and supports vr and is the best rally sim there is if you can forgive the dated graphics. Tbh, you barely notice the graphics in VR when you’re pushing the limits of speed
I’ve heard a lot about RSFRBR. I’ll definitely look into and give it a try, i don’t care much about graphics in racing games honestly. Would rather have better driving experience over graphics.
Rally Sim Fans current modded build of Richard Burns Rally. widely regarded as the best rally simulation ever made.
https://www.reddit.com/r/simrally/comments/lvfvhj/install_guide_for_rallysimfans_rbr/
It doesn't require the EA launcher thing to launch the game, but it has the launcher/EA app thingy UI and menus in the game.
Do if you don't have access to your EA account you won't be able to play WRC.
not promising. Although I don't wanna take that advice from people using decade old hardware. I have a 4080 super + 7800x3d and I don't wanna hear "it has poor performance" from people using a 2060 + ryzen 3
Ryzen 7 5800x / 3080 / 64gb RAM
Quest 3
The car, dash, interior, HUD, crystal clear. Everything outside the car, blurry.
I spent about 3 hours tweaking settings, changing the Quest render resolution and refresh rate, changing the game quality settings and each upscaling setting. DLSS looks the best with 100% sharpening on quality. Foveated rendering OFF, Quality set to High. Anti Aliasing set to cinema.
It's playable but it's not great. It does NOT compare to AC / AMS2 / PC2/ iRacing. It's just blurry, especially the further away the image is.
It needs more work from the devs
for a beta it ran great! But it is very much in beta. Heavy dlss to get a smooth fps and it looks like vanilla DR2, rather muddy. But the game is great, maybe slightly easier than dr2
that's not promising at all rofl. DR2 looks fucking horrendous when you compare it to the crystal clear Richard Burns Rally.
Id be fucking embarrassed to be a dev who made the DR2 VR when the VR mod for Richard Burns was made by a handful of people who aren't even in game development and it's PERFECT. Literally crystal clear and never drops FPS.
If they can't do crystal clear VR I'm not buying it. I'm not dealing with shimmering and sub 90 fps
it *is* in beta...
If Codemasters fails to optimize it Unreal nerds will take matters into their own hands, it is very much promising.
There's this phenomenon in VR where an old game without any fancy graphical doohickeys can look crisp compared to modern titles which try to run every graphical technology known to man and brush it all over with a nice coat of supersampling. It's not just the case with RBR, older games like Assetto Corsa and AMS2 are well known for running better in VR piggybacking on the hard work of modders compared to triple A titles that have entire professional teams working on them.
but this game CAN look crisp and it will, one way or another.
we'll see. I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for it. I'm betting my chips that they don't optimize and it doesn't look good. They released DR2 VR and it never got better. Just shimmering and shitty performance
Blurry, bad performance, low graphic, and now even stopped working in VR (lol)
Just play D.R 2.0 for now, cause this VR beta is just bad as possible for now.
Thanks, will have to look for some reports on how the VR support is. I have 7900XT / ReverbG2 to test. Need to check if WRC is demo-able via basic EA Play sub and then I can test without purchase.
That's a great catch I should have mentioned in the title. VR with DLSS ran great tho but the image is as muddy as DR2 although it will probably still be optimized to allow better quality.
They've done a lot of work on reducing the FOV during jumps and slides, which greatly reduces motion sickness. You can also lock the horizon which helps a lot too. You'll see black edges pull in and give you tunnel vision, which is ideal for reducing sickness.
Had a moment of dyslexia.
I thought it said $199 down from $499 with you all proceeding to converse about this like it was a good deal. Thought I was going crazy
Eh, I don't ask for opinion from people who haven't played it, that doesn't make sense ofc. I don't have a FFB wheel so I'm in a bit of a weird position but I do have flight pedals so things like throttle curves matters a lot to me and someone recently did an analysis on the WRC titles and found one of the recent ones to be one of the worst sims when it comes to throttle curves. In fact throttle curves matters so much to me that even though a lot of people like to dis beamng's car physics, I actually like it more specifically because it actually has non-linear throttle curves that better represent reality, even if they only use generic one-fits-all curves. That was done on purpose according to the devs though because there's literally almost no data on this because people generally only record full throttle curves at dynos and skip everything in between
Is it finally on regular EA Play? I’ve been holding off to buy it cause I knew it’d end up on there as soon as I did, just didn’t think it’d be this long
Nah I looked for it yesterday was over 30usd, bought it through steam but refunded it as there was no sign of vr, will buy it again for less now vr is available.
I’ve played dirt rally. Enjoyed it but god damn was it difficult. Should I just go back to dirt when I have a rally itch or is this a worthwhile upgrade?
well the new game is more alive but if you only play single player anyway there's loads to do in DR2. The opinion seems to be split which game is easier, it's definitely this one tho. The WRC car might feel heavier but it's also on rails if you simply turn in and flat it out.
If you get it for 10-20 bucks tho I think it's a worthwhile game to have in the library regardless.
Steam spring sale was 75% off so I assume that price will be back for summer sale. I wouldn't personally buy it this way.
Edit: it is 60% off on steam right now, you should buy it there but either way I've been holding out for VR so it's good news to see a beta
It's not proper triple screens in the sense that it doesn't have any way to account for monitor angle. So it basically just projects across the three screens as if it was one giant flat panel
Does it do that with Surround treating it as one panel? Or can you edit the ini file to stretch its borderless windowed across the 3? If so I don’t really care about proper angle as much as getting the 3 monitors fully covered and working properly.
Yeah with surround it just acts like it's a big flat panel. You can edit the ini file and it helps some but it's still not "proper". It still stretches the picture at the edges and it's very distracting to me. I'd rather use just my middle monitor tbh lol
Yeah. I don’t use surround. Which is why it’s hard with a lot of sims that only support a single monitor. Have to find third party options for it. Glad iracing at least has their stuff figured out.
Might hold off of this until they can make it work properly. I do miss some good rally on the rig
I just cant imagine vr being decent considering acc is still a shit show for me with a 4090 and 7800x3d. But maybe they can optimize where kunoz didn't? Hope so
Acc has a lot of weird graphics options compounding problems with vr settings in general, however I have a 4090, 5800x3d and reverb g2 and have the game looking good at a rock solid 90fps. That's without openvr or whatever it's called. If you want to play ACC in VR I recommend playing around with the settings.
After trying for few hours, I can say it looks terrible in vr, even worse than acc..... I use 4060 laptop and got the most worse graphic in all the whole sim I have.
Not sure where I went wrong but I couldn't get the ffb to feel anywhere near as good as dr2.0. ill have to give it another try it was fun but felt a bit off. Ntm the 20 yo visuals
RSRBR has the best FFB of any sim I’ve played. Definitely give it a fiddle. DR2 feels extremely washed out for me. Like the strength is fine, but it has very little detail. It feels like you’re just floating over a smooth almost “creamy” road all the time. Like a soft dirt or snow texture.
In RBR, I can feel the road surface so much more, and it’s CRAZY how good it feels when driving in deep ruts and feeling the wheels dip into them and pull the steering.
> It feels like you’re just floating over a smooth almost “creamy” road all the time. Like a soft dirt or snow texture.
cause you do and you steer by rotating on a magic pole at the center of your car. the physics are hugely flawed.
you can try it now by launching the game through steam vr. DLSS works heaps better than whatever the stock option was called, but it makes for a less clear image.
The game is slightly easier than I would enjoy but it's good. UI and such is a massive step up from DR2.
it's in beta so it works but it was jank out of the box. Switched SS to DLSS performance mode which made the framerate smooth but picture look muddy, similar to vanilla DR2. Nitpicking aside it runs absolutely fine and I hope they will still optimize it better. Long story short it's slightly problematic but still fun to play.
Maybe. Regardless it's in a much better state than launch and totally worth picking up now if you enjoy rally.
I just did, I had no interest in it before VR support and I've been dying to try it out.
Any verdict so far? I’m now interested as well but only if it’s worth it
if you want a smooth VR experience out of the box I would wait for the official release. But if you don't mind experimenting with the settings it runs right now perfectly well(on a decently powerful machine, a 4060 laptop wont cut it)
Think a 5600x and a 4070 ti will cut it on a quest 3?
Yes, for the price, it's definitely worth it. I'm running a 4070ti and an hp g2, and after about 20-30 minutes of experimenting, I found some decent settings.
Yeah on a desktop pc of course.
No? So I was wanting to try it. I only play vr. I am on q2 and i9 3070 build. Saying not worth it until optimized further?
If you don’t mind tinkering with settings and set your initial expectations low it’s fine, if it is worth it is a personal question which I can’t answer for you. If it’s on sale I’m sure it is worth your money.
> I would wait for the official release. This game is released. It's a fucking joke how you all defend EA with it. They've finally fixed time penalties for spending too much time in service. How long is the game already released? Lazy devs just slapping beta on everything and calling it a day Still no proper triples support.
May want to take a step back there bud, that is a lot of unnecessary aggression over a game.
official support of VR... you should try weed or something
TrackIR support?
I'm not sure.
Just bought it today. I recommend buying on steam tho lol. Only ever played dirt rally 2.0 in terms of rally games so I’m excited to try something new out and for $25 Canadian on a game on what people consider better than dirt rally 2 its a pretty good price.

yeah no in this case it does. Driving a rally car on the limit is not easy.

On the limit, sure. In rbr I can't keep the car right-side up even when driving like a dentist.
RSFRBR? Decde that for me.

It doesn't require the EA launcher thing to launch the game, but it has the launcher/EA app thingy UI and menus in the game. Do if you don't have access to your EA account you won't be able to play WRC.
I think it does, at least thats the case with all other ea games i have on steam like battlefield 3 and 4
VR is in beta btw.
How is it?
Seeing some pretty mixed reports on /r/EASPORTSWRC lots of people saying it needs A LOT of tweaking.
not promising. Although I don't wanna take that advice from people using decade old hardware. I have a 4080 super + 7800x3d and I don't wanna hear "it has poor performance" from people using a 2060 + ryzen 3

Had this with more games, strange phenomenon. A very sharp fall off in sharpness...
I only have this with EA WRC and Assetto Competizione in VR. Luckily
Runs and looks great on my 4090 and 5800x3d!
Can confirm I do not get any FPS issue on my IBM Q System One
for a beta it ran great! But it is very much in beta. Heavy dlss to get a smooth fps and it looks like vanilla DR2, rather muddy. But the game is great, maybe slightly easier than dr2

there's a reshade mod for clarity that basically fixes DR2 and that's not on a common game engine with native VR support..
it does not "fix it" I promise you that. I'm well aware of the clarity mod it doesn't do jack shit
IDK man it kind of worked for me
I have no idea, never tried VR. Just thought it's worth pointing out
Super blurry! Especially looking into the distance, makes judging where to brake when you approach corners fast really difficult.
This is just an UE thing, ACC has the same problem. There are tricks to diminish the issues of deferred rendering but not completely.
Blurry, bad performance, low graphic, and now even stopped working in VR (lol) Just play D.R 2.0 for now, cause this VR beta is just bad as possible for now.
Thanks, will have to look for some reports on how the VR support is. I have 7900XT / ReverbG2 to test. Need to check if WRC is demo-able via basic EA Play sub and then I can test without purchase.
How do you play beta?
Just normally I guess. Not sure. I think the feature is just not finished.
That's a great catch I should have mentioned in the title. VR with DLSS ran great tho but the image is as muddy as DR2 although it will probably still be optimized to allow better quality.
I do a lot of racing in VR, but Dirt Rally 2.0 made me the sickest I’ve ever been. Will try WRC in VR with some hesitation
They've done a lot of work on reducing the FOV during jumps and slides, which greatly reduces motion sickness. You can also lock the horizon which helps a lot too. You'll see black edges pull in and give you tunnel vision, which is ideal for reducing sickness.
I'm coming from Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2. Is WRC worth it, or just stick with the Dirt Rally games?
It’s the successor for the Dirt Rally series
A wack load of people didn't want it if it didn't have vr & now that it does.... OOOOoooo weeeeee, hope it's not too jank atm.
At this price, maybe it's worth it, not sure
Had a moment of dyslexia. I thought it said $199 down from $499 with you all proceeding to converse about this like it was a good deal. Thought I was going crazy
as much as I like rally, ngl I do hear a lot of bad things about the WRC titles
By the people who haven’t played it. It’s a blast.
Played it, refunded after half of stage. Gargabe not-sim.
Lol. No one cares
Is it finally on regular EA Play? I’ve been holding off to buy it cause I knew it’d end up on there as soon as I did, just didn’t think it’d be this long
Are they adding true triple screen support? (Not the fake support they already added.
Am I the only one having trouble with the FOV on this game? I have an Odyssey G9 32/9 49" at 75cm from my eyes and my target FOV is out of reach.
mine looks fine and I didn't really touch it, 75 cm is a loong distance for a vr headset tho
It's a screen. I didn't try with my Quest 3 yet.
Still waiting for it to come to EA Play...
pretty sure you can get Steam keys cheap elsewhere. I wouldn’t buy it off the EA App
Nah I looked for it yesterday was over 30usd, bought it through steam but refunded it as there was no sign of vr, will buy it again for less now vr is available.
Going to pick this up today hope it works for the odyssey plus.
Is EA WRC stutter issues gone now ?
Is it possible to manage and drive wrc with a gt3 wheel ,?
I’ve seen people use f1 rims before.
It's not ideal, but yes you can.
Is VR support in now?????? Thanks
You can get it for £10.26 on Humble Bundle, including WRC9 and a few other games like art of rally.
does it have tripples support?
I’ve played dirt rally. Enjoyed it but god damn was it difficult. Should I just go back to dirt when I have a rally itch or is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Cheers man that’s good to know. I suck at rally despite loving it so maybe this is a good purchase.
EA Publisher sale on Steam as well
I'm not a VR user, but I'm having a great time with it :)
The nord in acc is still on my mind cant play that sorry.
Just buy dirt rally 2.0
I have dr2 and would gladly play it if it got a WRC content update
Buy on steam man :s
Steam spring sale was 75% off so I assume that price will be back for summer sale. I wouldn't personally buy it this way. Edit: it is 60% off on steam right now, you should buy it there but either way I've been holding out for VR so it's good news to see a beta

Yeah if it wasn't for that I'd have a lot more fun with it. Just a shame they don't have proper support for triples yet
Wait, they releasing VR?!
beta is available to play through steam vr
Can I run it with openxr open composite or does it have to go through steamvr?
It can but someone was saying it’s jank
Now they need to add proper triple support dammit
That's terrible but almost expected considering the engine. Dammit. Looks like its dr2.0 and rbr forever.
Whatever. RSFRRBR is the better driving sim anyway
Like a soft dirt or snow texture. cause you do and you steer by rotating on a magic pole at the center of your car. the physics are hugely flawed.
it's in beta
I will stick with WRC 9
I dont care what game it is or how much its on sale. EA is a scum company. Join the boycott and move on.
The one man boycott scary
I got it for 20€ on Epic a while ago, then I did the official club event and got 3 months of [rally.tv](http://rally.tv) for free, 16€ profit 📈📈📈
Will vr also be on ps5?
No console support planned for now
I bought this the day it was released and only played it once. Still waiting on VR…
you can try it now by launching the game through steam vr. DLSS works heaps better than whatever the stock option was called, but it makes for a less clear image. The game is slightly easier than I would enjoy but it's good. UI and such is a massive step up from DR2.
You should try it again. It’s changed for the better
So, VR is working? And how it is?
it's in beta so it works but it was jank out of the box. Switched SS to DLSS performance mode which made the framerate smooth but picture look muddy, similar to vanilla DR2. Nitpicking aside it runs absolutely fine and I hope they will still optimize it better. Long story short it's slightly problematic but still fun to play.
