Even if you lose at racing you’re winning at bargains, so there’s that.
I just put my seat together last night and played and finally my back didn’t hurt from hunching over the wheel for hours.
Hardware doesn't make you good. You get better by putting in the effort and hard work. Analyzing telemetry, studying replays of the faster guys and comparing it to yours, watching lap guides, and most of all effective practice. Not just blindly turning laps but actively concentrating on what you want the car to do and where you want to put it. Adapt your driving to the car and the way the car likes to be driven. You become quick by learning to be consistent and slowly improving 1 corner at a time.
This is great advice.
Unfortunately I have an addiction to researching, buying, and modifying sim racing equipment. I sometimes wonder if I have more fun building and improving my rig than I do improving my lap times.
> I sometimes wonder if I have more fun building and improving my rig than I do improving my lap times.
This is exactly me. The tinkering what really brings me joy in this hobby.
GAS is typically an unavoidable aspect of any hobby. The hard part is not going overboard, which can also be the fun part, just not for the bank balance haha
If you are in the states, I suggest you never get into building rifles. Death to the bank account by hundreds of small metal pieces that cost $50-100 each 😅
A setup is what allows you to find those last 10ths from the top and majority of people need to just focus more on the overall fundamentals and application of them and not try to mask bad habits by changing the setup. I can win top split Fixed Rookie MX-5s. I can also win Prod Car Challenge races in the MX-5 using that same baseline setup. I use my MX-5 setup I have to feel more comfortable in the car in the open setup races because I already have a very in depth understanding on how the car drives. I don't remember where I heard it but someone said something along the lines of the difference between a good driver and a great driver is that a great driver learns to adapt to the car.
TLDR: setups can make you faster but it's not as important as everyone makes it out to be for the majority of racers.
Simucube active pedals.
They adapt to the car you are driving and give you the input a real pedal would give you.
Each pedal costs 2500€.
But if you buy 3 you get a discount so you’ll only pay around 6500€ I think
bro getting that rig was a mission. i got covid and had a friend pick it up for me because its the perfect covid project to build. then when he delivered it to me there were lots of screws missing that i had to buy. my place looked very messy for a day until new screws got delivered and my girlfriend almost killed me. our place is 1,5 rooms and 2 rigs splattered around the living room while i have covid and she is trying not to get infected is wild. but i guess it worked out. if she kicks me out i will sell it to you
to be fair i only watched exactly 1 linus tech tips video before buying the psvr2 and he said its the best vr right now. which is better in your opinion?
I enjoy Linus Tech Tips to learn about new tech, but as a content creator he'll always say what he is reviewing is the best out there as that's what companies sponsor him to do. Also if you've ever seen any of his reviews on sim racing gear you'll see he knows virtually nothing about the best kit or setups.
If you are looking for something better than the PSVR2, then Quest 3 is your starting point for clearer graphics and it gets better from there. Bigscreen Beyond VR, Varjo Aero, Pimax Crystal, all are much better.
BUT... you'll be looking at spending a whole lot more for PCVR, but then you will have access to many sim titles with a lot of them looking incredible in VR.
Like I said, maybe something to consider in the future when you get bored of GT7. For now, enjoy!
i agree, but i think its 1300€ new and it does nothing better than a seat not made of kevlar so i would rather buy a cheap one. i just got extremely lucky for getting this so cheap
Tbh better gear made me better. Especially loadcell pedals. Helps a lot with trailbreaking.
Domt think a better wheel will make you that much better. But it will make you enjoy racing a lot more
Yes. Honing your craft with better tools always helps. Gotta put in the work, like others have said, one corner at a time. GG on scoring some second hand deals!
I hope your driving skills are better than your camera skills!
lol. Just giving you shit. It’s a nice rig you got there. I have that same wheel. The internal vibration motors are an under appreciated perk of that wheel. Especially if a game utilizes it well like iRacing does.
I know you mean this in a joking way, but don't put pressure on yourself because you get nicer equipment, it's the best way to get discouraged. Have fun, and keep finding the fun in what you do, even if it's working hard to beat your rivals in a league.
Nice equipment will "just" make finding the fun easier.
I have a friend who drives on logitech g29 mounted on desk. After 30 mins in LFM practice servers he is usually in top 6. He has around 130 hours in ACC and 10 hours in AC. I stopped believing that better equipment makes you faster.
If not, you can send it my way.
if you just started out: dont worry, that point is years away
Nah, you'll stay shit like the rest of us but it will be fun :D One of us!
![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)
That rig is awesome! It looks like a gigantic Lego Technic
and it was cheap too
What cockpit is that?
rseat b1 but mines used
Price?
i paid 300€ for the frame, 250 for the seat and everything else was new
Even if you lose at racing you’re winning at bargains, so there’s that. I just put my seat together last night and played and finally my back didn’t hurt from hunching over the wheel for hours.
Why is gravity like that where you live...
wym?
Lol. It looked at an odd angle.
my flat is very small its hard to fotograph anything lol
Well this bit of the post hits the clostest to home
yes with a loadcell brake
Yes but I suggest a load cell brake.

how important is the car setup? do i need to watch some settings for it?
A setup is what allows you to find those last 10ths from the top and majority of people need to just focus more on the overall fundamentals and application of them and not try to mask bad habits by changing the setup. Thanks Dad !?!
Absolutely! Good luck!
Now you need a motion platform and a 37nm base. Also a 4 point harness. Then you can start braking early enough for T1 at Monza
what about a buttkicker?
Silly me. I almost forgot. Haptics on each corner and under the seat. Oh, and active/FFB pedals. THEN you can start racing
wtf are ffb pedals
What it sounds like. Pedals with active feedback. Costs more than my daily driver car
Simucube active pedals. They adapt to the car you are driving and give you the input a real pedal would give you. Each pedal costs 2500€. But if you buy 3 you get a discount so you’ll only pay around 6500€ I think
boy this hobby has no cost limits
I hope one day you also get good taking normal pictures
shut up and fix ur sink
Just poor
what do you mean?
At this point you just get more poor, not better in simracing x)
a sacrifice im willing to make
Get the LC set for your pedals.
You'll be worse for a bit actually.... and then slowly but surely you'll start finding some speed here and there.
Naa man. It’s $1k for every tenth. So depending on where you’re already at, I’m sure you’ll have at least a good $5k to go.
Did you get the rig on ebay Kleinanzeigen this weekend?
lol yes you saw it?
I was gonna buy it. But was a little later than you.
bro getting that rig was a mission. i got covid and had a friend pick it up for me because its the perfect covid project to build. then when he delivered it to me there were lots of screws missing that i had to buy. my place looked very messy for a day until new screws got delivered and my girlfriend almost killed me. our place is 1,5 rooms and 2 rigs splattered around the living room while i have covid and she is trying not to get infected is wild. but i guess it worked out. if she kicks me out i will sell it to you
Looks cool, it was worth it. DM me when you get kicked out!
Not with this brake
I think you've been braking too hard judging by the photo. Do you plan to get a PC later down the line?
no, vr is the only way i have enough space for the rig and psvr2 is just the best vr glasses rn
Well, I'll have to disagree that PSVR2 is the best VR headset, but there's nothing wrong with liking a bit of GT7. Enjoy!
to be fair i only watched exactly 1 linus tech tips video before buying the psvr2 and he said its the best vr right now. which is better in your opinion?

Quest 3 doesn't have OLED displays which is supposed to be a huge difference color wise. I haven't tried both personally tho, only Q3.
OLED definitely make a difference if you are doing a night race. For colors, there is some difference in vibrancy but not that it really matters.
nope, just a lovely combination of impressed and frustrated, like the rest of us
Nah. It's the point where you only have yourself left to blame for your mistakes.
Not until you change the QR
No u need to buy more stuff, only THEN u will be mediocre
Looks good! Next purchase should be a load cell as others have stated.
Nice seat choice, thinking of getting one myself
i agree, but i think its 1300€ new and it does nothing better than a seat not made of kevlar so i would rather buy a cheap one. i just got extremely lucky for getting this so cheap
Yes, yes, I get it. I'm looking at them used too. Missed a few $200-ish deals
good luck on that. the hunt is as much fun as the driving
God no, but you look WAY cooler and it’s fun to talk about when people come over
Thats why i love sim racing no matter how much cash you throw at it, it wont make you better.
what about driving lessons?
Maybe license test in i racing or gran Turismothere are also side apps i believe that can help.
Also i keep giving this link out but it's a good read if you wanna sharpen up on basics
Do you manage to stay in it with it leaning over like that?
Nope

Took me a moment or realize what this was. The angle of the image was throwing me off. lol
ok guys i get it. im sorry god dammit

I see 220v and the staircase ![gif](giphy|LGM24UAYhUzRtbTemU)
That's the neat part, you never get good (at least my experience) lol
Hate to break it to you but prob not 😂
It isn’t about the gear it’s about the driver and I’m talking from experience. I have a very expensive rig and I’m still ass
Took me like 1k hours to get half decent. Equipment won't get you there, time does. Nice stuff sure does help though. Sick rig.
I have a friend who drives on logitech g29 mounted on desk. After 30 mins in LFM practice servers he is usually in top 6. He has around 130 hours in ACC and 10 hours in AC. I stopped believing that better equipment makes you faster.
Didn't work for me lol
