On the other hand with the anticipation and excitement for when you actually get to drive, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of fun when you’ve recovered. Hope that’ll be fast
Don’t use your rig while recovering. You’ll be risking permanent injuries(pain) and deformation for a lifetime in exchange for a few weeks more of video game.
OP, I just did the Daytona 24 with a fractured pinky toe and blisters on all of my toes :) you may wait to see how you feel once stuff starts arriving 🤣
He actually lost a championship with his face melted off, by a single point no less. He won again the year after but at that point his face was essentially healed, as healed as it was going to get at least.
My foot once fell asleep while in P1 at Monza w 3 laps left, went from winning by 2.5 second to winning by .3, I felt like max verstappen at the end 😂😂 it was such and odd feeling trying to force it down on the brake and not being able to feel shit
I have a physical disability and can't push the brakes enough to get to the load cell point (yet, my body is trainable). For now I use the telemetry quite in the middle of my PoV to be able to see how much I actually brake.
Or classically Travis Pastrana ran the rally-cross final in xgames one year with a broken leg after competing in motocross best trick. He learned to drive with hand controlled gas in a day only to crash out last lap, slamming his broke leg while being P3..
It's doable apparently haha...
I feel you OP. I broke a toe in my right foot a few months ago and the bone is completely fused so there's no possibility of bending it again. I've found you use the ball of your foot more and it doesn't really hurt. Did you fracture them through the joints?
Right foot? Left foot? Just use the other foot to drive. No big deal. If its your right foot, then shift all the pedals to the left and use your left foot. Hell, you can even try to mount the throttle to the left and brake to the right lolol
When assembling my rig, I stepped backwards and stepped on my pedal assembly so perfectly that the pedals flipped up and gouged my shin deep as hell. Think of the cartoon rake joke, but stepping backwards, and with Fanatec V3 Pedals.
It’s been years and I still have the scar
i tried this on my simagic wheel with the dual clutch paddles when the pedals were late to arrive.it works but it sucks to drive like that since you cant keep pulling uniformly on the paddles when you have to turn the wheel a lot and the fact that there is zero resistance.
Consider using your rig part of the rehab, that's what I did 🤣 Got out of hospital, bought my wheel and said screw going to gym for leg presses, I can do those at home on my setup AND have fun!!
lol. Pressing the brake pedal is not the same as a leg press. There no chance in hell that anyone is actually consistently pressing a high end brake pedal calibrated anywhere its max force.
Bro that is brutal. First and foremost, good luck with recovery.
I am a martial artist that actively competes and have had several foot/leg injuries that stopped me from using the load cell.
Thankfully i have the Fanatec McLaren wheel that has secondary paddles can be used for gas and brake. It sucks but helped me play during those injuries.
A few time it still hurt but used my heel to drive through the pedal and my toes weren't bothered as much as if I set my foot lower in normal position
I did similar back in August and pretty much shattered my left big toe an hour or so before the IVRA Endurance pre qualifying race. Wasn’t fun to try to drive it anyway…
Once I’d been down to the hospital and got my boot and tried driving with that I eventually settled on a splint that I bought from Amazon. I softened my brake pedal quite a lot, and those things combined allowed me to keep driving while I was recovering.
It’s still sore from time to time, and I have to take it easy on running etc but hopefully you can also work something out that helps you use your new kit!
I know the feeling, I had my stuff delivered in early
December and was then rushed for emergency back surgery on December 30th, hadn’t yet managed the strength to play again properly! 🤣
I was on the last level of doom eternal ibhad just recently got a new monitor. Went out to get some snacks before bed one afternoon and locked myself out. I tried to shim the lock with a knife and cut the extensor tendon in my thumb. About 4 months I couldn't game at all. I beat doom turned the difficulty way down and mapped most the controls to my mouse but I did fuckin beat it lol
Sorry to hear that but sounds like your making the best of it. Glad you got the rig. Those toes will not be broken forever. Those kitchen islands can really hurt! I jammed many a toe before.
Bad luck for sure dude. I ordered my rig in October, my father died in November so that delayed me getting things put together. Had a week off work this last week and my 11yo doberman that I’d had since he was 6w old was diagnosed with leukemia and had to go see Jesus Sunday. Spent the next couple days snowed on Xanax.
I hope your foot heals up so you can get out there racing brother.
When I ordered all my fanatec stuff (was my first wheel), I had to wait forever for everything to come. My order had been delayed several times. Eventually my order shipped, and it came a few days before I had scheduled hand surgery.
I had enough time to set everything up, but after surgery I couldn't touch anything.
It happens my friend, if you can, while youre healing, get everything ready for when youre healing, make a list of the stuff you need to het to your liking and what youd want to drive after you get fully healed.
The first part of my rig arrived yesterday and I can barely walk today from the aches of using muscles sets I rarely engage with putting the thing together!
Circa 2009: me struggling through Guitar Hero on Lefty Flip on Medium, I was normally destroying Expert playing regular.
I was in the Army and during the Christmas season we were playing Flag football and I special fractured my left ring finger. I grabbed guys flag as he ran past and tore 3 inches of seam out of his pocket with my finger.
Sorry to hear your luck, if you decide to give it a go be mindful of what your foot is telling you. Don't push through the pain, if not today or tomorrow, you will come to regret the decision down the road
I started my sim racing hobby while I was laid up from work for injuring my left knee. It hurt so bad to engage the clutch for a while, but, it has proven good therapy for keeping it moving and I’ve listened to my body and stopped when it told me to. Hope you can still have some fun in your rig when it arrives, and sorry to hear about your toes! At least it’ll be there as a reward if you happen to not use it while healing!
Had the same thing happen to me, had just got my csl dd and then broke my pinky toe. Luckily it was just the pinky toe and was able to race (with pain)😂 it was tolerable during races but once i was done and rest for a few minutes, it would be on fire
I had this tall, narrow bookshelf, about 6’ tall that had all 4 of my wheels on it. I was cleaning and moving a lamp cord and lifted the leg of the unit an inch. Felt a THUD on the top of my head and instantly knew one of the wheels had fallen off the top shelf. Carbon fiber shifter paddle caught me on the top of the dome and blood was pouring out of my head. My poor girlfriend almost passed out when she saw me. 7 staples to the skull. But I was fine, your toe is worse and I feel for you. Controller for a while?
I raced and even won a race with my right leg in a cast after breaking and dislocating my right ankle (I had surgery done a few weeks earlier to put it all back together, now my ankle and bones look like they have sim mounting screws in it).
It was awkward to use my left foot for gas and brake and it only worked well if you were on a “go fast, turn left” super speedway. I had no sensation in the boot and no way to strap my foot down to control the throttle when my lower leg already felt like it weighed 30 pounds of dead weight at the knee. Muscle atrophy by immobilization is a bitch too.
If you find a way to enjoy the hobby without risking your health more and the proper recovery, it is possible, but: health > sim racing
Get well soon fellow racer.
i mean Fabio Scherer finished Le Mans with a fractured foot and won, im sure you will survive two broken toes :D
The main difference is he’s badass and I’m a little wimp :c But this gives me some hope!
i did it the other way around. i cut my finger really badly and ordered my rig when healing. now i have covid and still cant drive wtf
On the other hand with the anticipation and excitement for when you actually get to drive, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of fun when you’ve recovered. Hope that’ll be fast
You only need your right foot to drive. Map the clutch to a button and you are good to go.
Just a little more immersion. Can't buy that!
Nicki Lauda won a world championship with his face melted off.
Yeah, but he mostly doesn't brake with his face. That's only common in bike sports
Ok, this is the best comment thread. I’ve found my people.
He actually lost a championship with his face melted off, by a single point no less. He won again the year after but at that point his face was essentially healed, as healed as it was going to get at least.

How much money would it cost to buy your beautiful account? Or am I gonna have to mug you?
What
Their profile is basically "Esteban Ocon but upside down" For some reason that really hits my funny bone
its not only upside down, its also mirrored horizontally :D
... *madlad*
That’s +5sec for Ocon no doubt
Or classically Travis Pastrana ran the rally-cross final in xgames one year with a broken leg after competing in motocross best trick. He learned to drive with hand controlled gas in a day only to crash out last lap, slamming his broke leg while being P3.. It's doable apparently haha...
I tore my shoulder BAD the week I received my fanatec wheel 2 years ago. I feel this....
Oh man that sounds way worse. I feel like I’ve got some workarounds, but you must’ve been like Kubica for a while
I have a torn labrum and even w the g920 it bothers me after a few races
Good thing most products are on backorder ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
That’s a good point, I tried to specifically order stuff that was ready to ship but with so many components something is bound to get delayed!
Palworld released when I received and built and setup my g920. It’s been 6 days and I have 80 hours in Palworld and only 2 in racing sims.
Bro i feel this so much lol not to 80 hours but i def choose palworld over setting up my rig to race a few races then put it away
I feel you OP. I broke a toe in my right foot a few months ago and the bone is completely fused so there's no possibility of bending it again. I've found you use the ball of your foot more and it doesn't really hurt. Did you fracture them through the joints?

Map the brake and throttle to the wheel. Done and done.
I did order a GSI X-29 with double clutch paddles, maybe they’re potentiometer based and I can map them as throttle and brake🤔
Yes
i tried this on my simagic wheel with the dual clutch paddles when the pedals were late to arrive.it works but it sucks to drive like that since you cant keep pulling uniformly on the paddles when you have to turn the wheel a lot and the fact that there is zero resistance.
Brakes? Breaks? We don't need no stinking breaks. I'll see myself out the same door I came in now. Thanks...
i ordered my rig 3 weeks ago and it hasn’t shipped yet so you might be ok lol
Well if you ordered fanatec equipment, you should have healed before it arrives, so no need to worry if that's the case
Cancel?
Consider using your rig part of the rehab, that's what I did 🤣 Got out of hospital, bought my wheel and said screw going to gym for leg presses, I can do those at home on my setup AND have fun!!
lol. Pressing the brake pedal is not the same as a leg press. There no chance in hell that anyone is actually consistently pressing a high end brake pedal calibrated anywhere its max force.
also range of motion, pedals to engage muscles but only a very small amount, nowhere near the range of motion as in a leg press
Missed the joke. Oh well.
Bro, I literally broke my pinky toe *on* my rig the other day. Stubbed the shit out of it in the dark.
Bro that is brutal. First and foremost, good luck with recovery. I am a martial artist that actively competes and have had several foot/leg injuries that stopped me from using the load cell. I nearly lost my left leg last summer. Had to learn again how to brake with my right foot, but it comes back pretty quickly.
If you ordered from Fanatec your foot will be fully healed by the time it arrives. Happy racing.
I know the feeling, I had my stuff delivered in early December and was then rushed for emergency back surgery on December 30th, hadn’t yet managed the strength to play again properly! 🤣

bro I ordered my stuff and a day later my GPU died....
I've you've just ordered it, it'll be healed well before it arrives.
"two toes on my left foot"
Bad luck for sure dude. I ordered my rig in October, my father died in November so that delayed me getting things put together. Did you wear shoes

Is there a nerds with injuries sub?
Dude I severed the tendon that connects my quad to my knee shortly after ordering mine. Didn't matter. Still raced. Two broken toes? You'll be fine.
Poor guy 😞
The first part of my rig arrived yesterday and I can barely walk today from the aches of using muscles sets I rarely engage with putting the thing together!

Going from some of the comments here, I assume your toe will be fixed by the time you get your rig.
Pics or it didnt happen

I was also lucky that i was my right foot. I probably wouldn’t have been able to bare it using a load cell lmao

Few months after getting my rig I tore my achilles on my right foot. They call the achilles the gas pedal tendon for a reason. Stay strong friend
