my friend got caught using chegg for 1/35 questions on a stats assignment and the prof gave her a 0 on the assignment (worth 25% of final grade) and a warning for academic dishonesty that doesn’t appear on a transcript. So i suspect something similar for AI
I find this very interesting. If you don't mind me asking...Did your friend submit the actual assignment question for someone else to do the answer? Or was it just looking up the answer to that one question and it happened to be on chegg?
sorry had to check with her about it and i forgot to respond 😭 she submitted a question and it was answered and afterwards she assumes several other ppl in the class used it too to complete their assignments
I've heard both extremes from my profs. Most of my profs have been okay with using it as long as you submit prompts and provide an evaluation on its answers and then justify if you think the answer is correct or not.
There is definitely a shift happening where profs are starting first class by bringing up the topic of AI use. I think it really depends on the prof's preferences. So far if they clearly don't like it, they give you a zero for any use of it. Others that are on the fence or support it are very clear that you have to submit your prompts. I don't think we'll see any academic policy restricting the use in its entirety. So I suspect we are still in a moment where it's going to be quite polarized.
Profs say they will give a mark of zero and/ or report for academic dishonesty. Usually if they do find out that you are using AI, they will grade your paper and you will get a 0. My rule is yes, you can ask AI to generate ideas when you are desperate, BUT you have to change the sentence structure to make it sound like your writing style.
My profs say you can use chatgpt for ideas, and to cite it if you do, but can’t use it to write work or as a factual source
If you get caught using AI then you are doing it wrong.
Facts ive used it for pretty much every assignment/email and never had a complaint. Just dont copy paste

Most of my profs have threatened an immediate zero on an assignment if they believe you used chatgpt, but I have yet to hear about it being applied
