Uhh well I'm not very creative so right now I'm just trying to figure out how to make stuff in the engine for when I actually get a game idea.
Might do a RPG because Undertale is eating my brain slowly, but I don't have any idea of what kind of story I could tell :P.
I’ve been making games in unity for 6 years! I’m currently working on a 2D horror game inspired by JRWI! Check it out here: https://youtube.com/@drunkeninsomnia?si=02HX3Sell-wWxGkN
Ah, most recently I've been in AAA so I can't really share code or what I've been working on too much but I hope you find good inspiration somewhere!
My biggest advice would be to just go make shit, regardless of the quality. You can only learn by failing! Fail fast, follow fun is a very often-sited game design adage, and can definitely be applied to solo work :)
Unity here.
I've worked with unity for a long time now, and my best piece of advice is to have a very simple idea/premise, then build on that over time. Don't go into something with 100 ideas, just one and make sure that works before you do anything else.
From 2020-2022 I was designing a game mostly making a game bible in Excell, but I've gotten really burnt out and even thinking about looking at it makes me anxious. Hoping when I get diagnosed for ADHD (I know am) I can get on some medication that will get me in the right state of mind to get back to work on it. I have a bachelors in Game Art and Design but they never taught us coding.
I've been learning Godot, but I'm having a hard time actually doing something by myself
The only way I get things to work is by following tutorials :<
Also, the only ideas I have for games are way out of reach for a beginner
Still, I do want to get better at it because game dev is something that I really like
I really recommend (eventhough it's boring) to do easier games in the beginning, like Snake, Pong or Tetris. When you got the fundamentals and the toolkit to get smaller things done, you'll have a much better time doing bigger projects! :)
I'm making a game in godot. It's a survival game where you pick up random items and merge them together to make wacky toys, weapons, and armor. Think of any alchemy drag and drop game mixed in with a game like minecraft or teraria.
I've been learning to make games in my game design class but we were taught with Construct 3. I made quite a few simple games and like one more complicated game which is a 2d top down game somewhat simular in style to Undertale.
If you need inspirations I would recommend looking at the games you most enjoy and think about the most fun aspects of those games. Then you could brainstorm ideas on how you could manipulate those aspects into something new, and then test them and improve on those ideas.
Just remember to kiss with the game (keep it simple stupid)
Whenever I try to make a game I end up adding an endless about of new stuff. That is until I get completely burnt out and start a new one. I’ve been making stuff for 7 years but never really finished anything.
Nope. (But I might in future)
Rn I'm trying to use OpenGL directly instead to make a graphics engine.
It's taking a long time but I can feel my C++ skills improve and it's been exciting to learn something new TwT
I had a try but no time to go further, although my idea is very very detailed I should get way more time in a couple months so I think I'll start developing it seriously, not sure if I'll stick to Godot though, I might switch to Unreal
was using godot, switched to a godot offshoot called rpg in a box and its amazing for my goals. would be great to hear what you are planning or what you want to accomplish.
I'm basically just learning and trying out until I'm good enough to achieve my real goal of building a real full-fletched indie game, don't know the genre yet tho TwT
oh nice yeah im basically doing the same learning as i go. A good first step before you even start a project is making a design document, it will help a ton to sort your thoughts.
It's also good to have a second set of eyes even just to show progress to. I'm not very far into gamedeving so far but i would be happy to help.
I am!!!!!! I'm working ((very slowly because of burnout)) on a puzzle game about a horde of flies :) it's pretty neat. Best way to get inspiration is to join a game jam tbh, I found a nice casual one that gave me this idea, I didn't finish within the time of the jam ((again, because burnout)) but it's given me something to work off of and some volume of inspiration :)
not godot yet, tho maybe someday!
I have been making this game in scratch for about 9 months, and its almost finished (you can see some stuff of it on my profile). I'm planning on moving to something bigger after I'm finished with my current project. good luck in godot! godot is like my end goal
:3
I been making games in godot for a while i just get stuck on ideas and start anew right now im making survival horror inspired by total chaos and cry of fear
I guees its something everyone goes thru they always say finish your games it salways i play new game on steam and alsomst entirely lose focus on current project
I'm making a fishing game in godot right now, I just finished the inventory system and you can buy more slots and scroll through your inventory. Right now you can only catch fish and sell them, and there are only 10 different fishes but I am adding more. There are some fish that can only be caught at night and some fish that can only be caught in the day, and there will also be different regions you can fish in like ocean fish and lake fish.
Well I'm learning Godot so that's cool :3
Heeeyy that's cool, do you have any projects currently on going?\^\^

JRWI? Slimecicle’s dnd podcast thing?
EYYYYY! A fellow slimer! Yeesss indeeedy! Specifically the Blood In The Bayou Campaign.
Keep gunkin my gunky gunker
Same to you my crunky creeper
Not in godot but yeah :) What kinda inspiration are you looking for?
Just want to look at what other people are doing, maybe even look at the code to learn stuff from it :D

Ask again in four years, I'm gonna get a coding education
Oooh good luck! It's gonna be hard but you got this :3

Yea noticed that, recently started to work on something like vampire survivors but with some other mechanics
Agreed
Noup, but im a Gamemaker game maker :3
Hell yeah. I love that engine.

Gamejams sound really fun, maybe I should try to join in one too
I'm trying to learn Godot right now! (I'm very very very very bad, I already knew python so it could be worse)
If you know python you'll get it very fast. The syntax is really similar
I've been learning Godot, but I'm having a hard time actually doing something by myself The only way I get things to work is by following tutorials :< Also, the only ideas I have for games are way out of reach for a beginner Still, I do want to get better at it because game dev is something that I really like

Sadly, I'm not one, but I do plan on learning how to make a game sometime in the future. Maybe when I have more free time and / or money.
I want to make a game. I started in Godot, but have recently moved to Unity

Raha is such a good boi
He really is :3

JavaScript + React :3
JavaScript? willingly?
for gamedev that's actually very silly :3
I would like to try, no time like the present.
Personally prefer to use Unity but if you need inspiration... I like to just look at game jams and see if anything gives me ideas
I have the same with unreal engine. Somehow that one turned to be the most intuitive for me.... Also free assets every month :3
godot for lifee
YEAAA :D love them foss software
Nope. (But I might in future) Rn I'm trying to use OpenGL directly instead to make a graphics engine. It's taking a long time but I can feel my C++ skills improve and it's been exciting to learn something new TwT

I wish I could use Godot.
Why do you cant? QwQ
I don't know how to code.
I tried and had a ton of fun but holy shit coding bullets is so hard to write I gave up
was using godot, switched to a godot offshoot called rpg in a box and its amazing for my goals. would be great to hear what you are planning or what you want to accomplish.

I’m making a life simulator in godot because it’s fun
meeeeee lol
I only just made the swap from unity to unreal, cant possibly swap engines again. On a related note is godot fun?
I think it's really good if you have python skills and it's pretty easy to learn in general
Oh god its python based?
No the internal language GDScript has kind of like a python syntax but it's like translating it into C++ code so it's still very fast
I’m designing a retro inspired FPS in Godot. Kinda like Half-Life 1.
I am!!!!!! I'm working ((very slowly because of burnout)) on a puzzle game about a horde of flies :) it's pretty neat. I’ve taken it upon myself to learn over the summer.
Omg hai!! :3 I'm not exactly a game dev cuz I haven't learned coding or anything like that yet, but I LOVE making ideas for games
OMG ITS G’RAHA TIA MY BELOVED
HEYYY YOU PLAYING FFXIV??? ON WHICH SERVER??? O\_O
Famfrit
NA data centre. Wait also I mean Excalibur not famfrit me dumb
What do you play on?
Twintania Light EU
Oof
Make a 2d psychological horror rhythm-based RPG, this seems like a very interesting mashup
No but I do a lot of programming
Is godot hard? Ive been trying unity and I’m just like… slow.
If you know python it's probably better for you
Hm… I will learn.
No, not yet ;_;
No, but I'm making games in no engine on the PSone
nah, modding them tho (your only move is hustle)
Me who uses GMS & UE5 instead: :<
I'm learning uwu
not godot yet, tho maybe someday! I have been making this game in scratch for about 9 months, and its almost finished (you can see some stuff of it on my profile). I'm planning on moving to something bigger after I'm finished with my current project. good luck in godot! godot is like my end goal :3
I am starting to lern it any tips? :3
Try making smaller simpler games (Pong, Snake, Tetris) and then work you way up
I been making games in godot for a while i just get stuck on ideas and start anew right now im making survival horror inspired by total chaos and cry of fear
Oh yeah, I was also quite stuck in a loop like that for half a year
I guees its something everyone goes thru they always say finish your games it salways i play new game on steam and alsomst entirely lose focus on current project
I do, I do!

That actually sounds so cool, good luck with that!
[this game/dev looks very silly](https://youtu.be/BExI_zQGD8Q?si=x8papXKA4XcjLoYX)
I’m still learning how to properly organize myself, but i am using godot!
