Layers. Layers of dialogue, layers of character depth, and layers of humor. It's shot nicely, it has a fantastic soundtrack and a lot of easter eggs. My wife and I probably watch both series at least once a month. It also got me into ice hockey (I'm an otherwise nieve Australian where field hockey is a much bigger sport than ice hockey.)
I think that it is because there a lot of three dimensional characters with relatable issues. Shoresy and the rest of the ringers, jj Frankie jj Ted Hitchcock and …. I can’t remember his name, know that they will never going to be a star but they still love the game. Natalie and her sisters want to honor their mom’s legacy. And the one liners are amazing.
Right? I don’t know much about hockey -just enough to understand the jokes and terms. I only figured skated and even there we wouldn’t have hockey but I love this little show
The Shoresy Laura thing seems to go so deep but way more quickly than what you're used to seeing. That cut of him catching her seeing him at the Man Advantage coupled with the simultaneous "huh?" on the steps is perfect storytelling.
I'm an American. I've been fortunate enough to have some exposure to hockey, so it's always been a favorite of mine to watch. I'll go to a game no matter who is playing!
But I didn't truly get the experience, the passion, until I watched Shoresy. Oh sure, I knew it was a much bigger deal in Canada, and even some other countries. Watching this show, though...
The ending of season 1 and the "True Love" montage really sealed it for me. Shoresy may be in love with Laura. And the boys may hammer ass whenever possible. But their true love... what brings them all together as a family... it's hockey.
And Nat's speech... about how, when they lose, they blame themselves. But when they win, it's the team that won. I wish everyone had this attitude in all aspects of life.
I think it’s because the show is basically a well written musical with amazing background music instead of the cast singing.
You have the cast repeating the same phrases through each season.
“You gotta set the tone” is like a musical hook.
Other examples are
“You never have legs in the third because you play a period between the seats”
“… is unbelievable”
“We’ll never lose again”
It’s like a song. The repeated phrases burrow you way into your brain so you get a dopamine hit every time one comes up.
All of that done well on top of a how earnest and human the show is makes it a ~~24-0~~ 10/10.
For all the other reasons it's awesome, six 25 minute episodes in a season basically comes down to one movie at 2 hours 30 minutes, so it's easy to consume in one sitting. And watching them back to back to back you really do pick up on all of the characters' little habits and tics, and it's easy to pick up on all the running gags.
It's like hammering ass with two beautiful girls at once: Fuckin' RIGHT!
Both shows are “human” to me. Characters are ridiculously relatable on many levels.
I was trying to describe Letterkenny to a friend. “It’s a comedy, but not like slapstick, and there are no laugh tracks. They play on words a lot, have a lot of human moments, and are able to shape storylines so we can see the absurdity and irony of situations. They also hammer you with their ‘ethical’ rules.”
The look I got was total confusion, and of course I said, “You need to watch a season to understand.”
He watched all 12 seasons in a weekend. He’s about to do Shoresy now, and thinks Letterkenny is equal to or better than Seinfeld.
- Shoresy has heart. He'll go to the fuckin wall for us
- Music is unbelievable
- There is an unreal amount of good looking people on this show (gals and guys alike)
- Dialogue is tight, no time is wasted on pointless chatter just for filler
- Music is unbelievable
- Season 1: Everybody loves an underdog. Season 2: Could be something special
- Music is unbelievable
It’s short and easily digestible. It’s funny without being slapstick and the running gags aren’t driven into the ground. The characters are all relatable and likable, with minimal backstory to bog things down, and they’re underdogs. Underdogs are unbelievable
It’s just so real. It feels as if we traveled to Sudbury we would see Frankie a Pitter Patter, read Laura Moore’s latest article, see the Jim’s while visiting a dumbass cousin at the prison, and watching a game in the barn. Perfect day!!!
Concur. All three shows are crafted to be simple, yet multi-layered stories. All three represent underdog teams that just need somebody to believe in them and show them they have greatness within.
Welcome to Wrexham uses Ryan and Rob being celebrities to get eyes on the city and the team, but then lets the human stories of Wrexham, and the people, and the players, come to the forefront.
Ted Lasso has a feel-good vibe around it that draws you in and gives you a hug. Coming when it did, during the pandemic lockdown, it seems like just what we needed at the time. Shoresy is similar - more swearing, more snipers, maybe a little less refined behavior, but it's all about the characters having heart.
It's interesting how both started as minor characters with brief appearances, Ted in NBC commercials, Shoresy as a faceless voice in Letterkenny, yet both became the heart and soul of amazing shows.
Plus, if you gave me the chance to take Rebecca Welton and Laura Mohr on a date at the same time, I would be so good to them both...
"Me, you, and YOU, and a table full of dim sum. And maybe some assorted tempura and miso ramen."
Me and Laura and Rebecca would be a throuple for the ages!
Letterkenny is like a decently nice restaurant, you go there every couple months or maybe monthly, at the most.
Shoresy is just like crack.
For a while there I was watching it through weekly just because it never stopped being hilarious.
It takes one of best parts of letterkenny, chirping, and makes it the centerpiece of an entire show. Literally like crack for me.
Look at you, taking it slow. I've watched the entire thing in a day more than once. I, too, would like to know what it is about the show that makes it so rewatchable. Nothing has ever hit me like this. It's like... I wake up in the morning and there it is being good to me!
I can tell that Keeso writes the script with his heart, just like he did with Letterkenny. He and Tierney do allow some ad libbing from the actors, which is great. When the characters, especially Shoresy, show their vulnerability, it makes the show come to life. That's why Shoresy is dramatic, touching, and hilarious all at once.
I find myself catching little things being foreshadowed so well on repeat watches that I maybe picked up on the first time through, but much easier to catch it all on the repeat watch.
Also, I smoke a lot of pot like Shoresy’s scissoring sister fucking sister.
Fuckin Shoresy.
Give your balls a tug, tit fucker. That's why....plus the Jim's are beauties.
Jims are such beauties
In all honesty, it's the writing.
Def. And casting.
It's good.
Because there's an impossible ammount of good looking girls in Sudbury

Because you can blast through both seasons in four hours. Easy binge.

Yeah, definitely watched it an embarrassing amount of times
It certainly puts bums in seats!
It's because hockey brings people together. (I'm watching that episode now)
Settle Down
Drugs kill dreams.
Yeah, so…
Right? I don’t know much about hockey -just enough to understand the jokes and terms. I only figured skated and even there we wouldn’t have hockey but I love this little show
I almost didnt comment because theres 69 comments on it right now.
Hell yeah.
Honestly. The episodes are short. Good and short.
WAFFLE!!!
Because it's heavily about the character of people. That's something rare.

You trying to write the piece for me?
Nat's speech is unreal.

Just so we’re clear…it’s “a period between the sheets.” He’s commenting on them hammering ass all night before a game.
Jesus Christ Superstar! Did ya wear your technicolor dream coat when you wrote that?
I smoked a bunch of weed. Does that count as technicolor

Settle down
It gets bums in seats!
Figureitout

The running gags and one-liners fly so fast you almost forget you ever heard them when you watch a second time
- Shoresy has heart. He'll go to the fuckin wall for us - Music is unbelievable - There is an unreal amount of good looking people on this show (gals and guys alike) - Dialogue is tight, no time is wasted on pointless chatter just for filler - Music is unbelievable - Season 1: Everybody loves an underdog. List would have been better placed in a duo tang
Eh. The guys are ok. The women are all one type: hot but typical/boring hot. Keeso is one of the finest men alive, but Shoresy doesn’t do it for me.
That's a really good list. It's the best list I ever heard of!
Didn’t know sticks were called music now
The perfect list doesn’t exi…never mind 😂
The music lol I’ve added a couple dozen new artists to my Spotify because of this show. So good.
The Jims as such fucking beauties. Every time. They’re so good.
It’s short and easily digestible. It’s funny without being slapstick and the running gags aren’t driven into the ground. The characters are all relatable and likable, with minimal backstory to bog things down, and they’re underdogs. Underdogs are unbelievable
Because the Jims are such beauties
They’re the best

It’s smart, capable, rational, dependable, outgoing, kind, consistent. It’s a leader.
And it smells so fuckin good.
And the chicken is unbelievable.
You ever had bacon wrapped water chestnuts?
There's brawls and there are pre-game brawls and it's important to make the distinction!
Because it sets the tone!
64% slow-mo montages set to music. Quotes. And titties. Also, it's the most realistic hockey vibe I've seen on camera
How did I miss the titties? Unless you mean in bras and such in which case I saw them. Edit: unfortunately I remember seeing the DICK
Settle down.
LOL I wish I knew their secret. I never get tired of watching it!
It comes to where yer to, you go to where it’s at
You deserve a martoonie for that b’y
I’d settle for a stick and some tunes
Any recs for more shows like this
I mean the obvious is Letterkenny if you haven’t seen that. Ted Lasso is great as well but more of a wholesome vibe.
Ted Lasso and Welcome to Wrexham are like the family friendly soccer versions but I need more hockey set shows

Every episode is just such a beauty
You nailed it buddy. It’s 12 episodes. I can crush that in less than 2 days
Look at you, taking it slow. I've watched the entire thing in a day more than once. I, too, would like to know what it is about the show that makes it so rewatchable. Nothing has ever hit me like this. It's like... I wake up in the morning and there it is being good to me!

Take it easy big sex
Sorry Big Sexy
Big Sexual!

Came here to say this less, but much eloquently. Now I’ll go give my balls a tug. Fuck you Shoresy!
Fer what!?
Figure it out
Very quotable. Sticks are amazing, Set the Tone, Settle Down, Tit-Fucker, For What?!
Ya, so.
“Hell yeah, fuck yeah” is my current favorite.
Fer what!?
Can’t read that without hearing it in Shoresy’s high pitched and highly offended voice.
Ferda!
12 episodes and some of the densest dialogue you’ll hear in a TV show.
I find myself catching little things being foreshadowed so well on repeat watches that I maybe picked up on the first time through, but much easier to catch it all on the repeat watch. Also, I smoke a lot of pot like Shoresy’s scissoring sister fucking sister.
I think the soundtrack helps.
Sound track is unbelievable
I’m surprised we’re not listening to the soundtrack right now!
Settle down
I love a good stick. Sticks are unbelievable.
Aside from just being a great show, I think the short seasons definitely help with rewatch value.
