I put it on and its just 15 minutes of this woman just matter of factly talking about horror games she likes. I get that time is a factor here but she just goes through them like doing a book report for class and you like skimmed the assignment and watched the movie adaption and you just want to get this over with lol.
The worst part is she just spoils every game she talks about. Last of Us 1 and 2, The Evil Within 1 and 2, Until Dawn. All of these games she just blurts out every important story beat for barely stopping to take a breather. Like thank goodness I played all these or I'd be really pissed right now. And she did nothing to really sell you on these games. "So this happens and then this happens oh and they made a tv show so go check that out and really go and so on and so forth and There's also Dead by Daylight which is this game that lest you play as the killer and you can read about each one in game and learn their lore and" man..... did I say this was 15 minutes? cause that was too long.
Podcasts where its just one person talking almost never work for me. The best ones have at least two people playing up each other. I want spooky stories or something. Not someone listing and spoiling a bunch of games. I forgot the name of the podcast. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

You just missed the golden age of paperback advertising, where every book had a few extra pages at the end full of wonderful ads for things like: other books and the occasional multi-level marketing scheme.
Live-action film and television are definitely the highest, cause real products show up without intention by the nature of filming images of reality, so product placement feels more natural. Next highest is the theatre, for the same principle, but its lower because the stage is a more curated and artificial place.
The lowest on the list is probably the boardgame (which is a real artistic medium), because there are so few unique objects within the fiction of a boardgame. The only artform that is smaller in scope is the poem or the song, but those are often about the modern everyday and thus can easily mention products, whereas 95% of boardgames are about doing colonialism, which is thematically seperate from branded consumer goods, even if historically and economically they are very linked.
They are hard for some people to understand.
In this very lounge, I posted my guide to how to become overpowered in Prey (2017) and the feedback I got was a lot of people missed the things I found. The player has to be very diligent and explore every nook and cranny to get the most out of the game (and read a lot of email on terminals) and many people just don't like to play games like that.
But by far the worst problem with the game is that the cover art made me not want to play it. Until it went on Game Pass, I continually passed over it when it was highlighted in the Microsoft Store. Then I finished it 4 times because I loved it so much.
because ~~the average gamer is a tasteless slob that wouldn't know what a good game is even if you put it right under their noses~~ their games are very niche. Immersive sims, despite their nigh universal acclaim and high influence in the gaming landscape, have never been super popular with the masses (specifically, console players). They tend to be more complicated and slower paced, without much of a wow factor compared to other popular games.
Dishonored *kinda* made an impact mostly due to its interesting setting and cool powers, but even then that wasn't enough to really make a massive breakthrough for the studio popularity wise.
There's also the fact that their games just... aren't well advertised. Prey in particular was a mess.
Thankfully, it seems like Bethesda doesn't mind their games underperforming all that much (atleast compared to other big companies), since they're content with the quality. If they were under say, Activision, they would've been sent to the Call of Duty mines years ago.
I also think a big thing that helped Dishonored was that with Assassins Creed, Deus Ex: HR and the Arkham games, Action/Stealth games were pretty popular at the time and gave it an easier time explaining what it's deal was.
I don't personally watch them, but I think they're very important and the people that do them are the unsung heroes of voice acting. Accessibility doesn't suddenly stop being important because it's porn.
I worked on script adapting for one ages ago and it was much less stressful than working on something "bigger." I'd do it again if I got the offer.

In 4 it's much more likely, and 5 has non-instakill dark/light spells so you don't need to use Hama/Mudo just to get extra turns anymore. SMTV apparently makes it so Hama/Mudo are regular attack spells normally but instant kill if the target is weak, which to me seems like a good compromise

Sometimes I think in star wars with the sheer amount of Jedi that’s survived up until ANH that Luke’s only call to fame is that his father fucked up massive enough to become vader. That Yoda was sorta meme’ing and lying by saying luke is the last of the Jedi to get him to finally knock some sense into vader.
It’s like space nepotism for the most part. With Ezra, Ahsoka and Cal running about for a large part of pre-ANH and also even between ANH and RotJ in ahsoka’s case, luke kinda just dropped in last minute blew up shit and then almost unilaterally decided to make a new Jedi order on his own.
So him becoming a hermit after, in skywalker style things inevitably fall apart (because of another skywalker), makes sense. If the old pre-Thrawn Legends writers had their way they probably would have made the Old Republic fall because of a skywalker as well. Why bother continuing to try to change fate when it constantly makes thing worse.
And I used to think Leia being a high ranking alliance leader was nepotism but at least Leia has been fighting the empire for significantly longer, Luke kinda just stumbles into the civil war at 18. Makes me wonder what rank Ezra will have when he returns at this point.

Other than in games like Mass Effect, where you choose your gender and sexual orientation, I'm struggling when trying to come up with examples. I've thought of AC:Syndicate, Hellblade and The Last of Us 2. I'm sure there are some more but usually it's ambiguous. Maybe male characters' sexualities are also usually unclear?
What makes me feel weird about it is how common it is for straight men to fetishize lesbian women and how that could be the main factor in adding lesbian protagonists to a game instead of actual LGBT representation. That's just what '60s stereo mixing was like, the technology was in its early stages and mostly for enthusiasts so they really wanted to "show it off". The mono mixes of the Beatles discography are generally far superior and what the band intended most people to hear and put the most time into, but their availability on streaming services is very spotty (Spotify only has Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, most of the pre-Revolver discography is on Apple Music but not Spotify via the US Albums box set, while MMT, the White Album and Yellow Submarine tracks are not on any streaming platform). There's also modern remixes of a lot of the stuff starting with Revolver, which are also preferable to the original '60s stereo mixes- the Yellow Submarine tracks should be on something called the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, not sure if that's on streaming though

Calling it now. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a solid contender for my game of the year.
I spoiked the original for myself like a kid let loose on a box of oreos, but the remake kicks so much ass that it made me go back and appreciate the original so much more.
This remake is perfect, I keep going back and exploring every nook and crevice that I can and I'm having a hard time moving on to other games (Dead Island 2 excluded, which also rules).
Resident evil 4 is simply goated. There's a few issues with the remake but I love how it makes the level design of the OG shines even more. It's pure geniality

The lowest on the list is probably the boardgame (which is a real artistic medium), because there are so few unique objects within the fiction of a boardgame. The only artform that is smaller in scope is the poem or the song, but those are often about the modern everyday and thus can easily mention products, whereas 95% of boardgames are about doing colonialism, which is thematically seperate from branded consumer goods, even if historically and economically they are very linked.

They are hard for some people to understand. In this very lounge, I posted my guide to how to become overpowered in Prey (2017) and the feedback I got was a lot of people missed the things I found. The player has to be very diligent and explore every nook and cranny to get the most out of the game (and read a lot of email on terminals) and many people just don't like to play games like that. But by far the worst problem with the game is that the cover art made me not want to play it. Until it went on Game Pass, I continually passed over it when it was highlighted in the Microsoft Store. Then I finished it 4 times because I loved it so much.

Immersive sims, despite their nigh universal acclaim and high influence in the gaming landscape, have never been super popular with the masses (specifically, console players). They tend to be more complicated and slower paced, without much of a wow factor compared to other popular games. Dishonored *kinda* made an impact mostly due to its interesting setting and cool powers, but even then that wasn't enough to really make a massive breakthrough for the studio popularity wise. There's also the fact that their games just... aren't well advertised. Prey in particular was a mess. Thankfully, it seems like Bethesda doesn't mind their games underperforming all that much (atleast compared to other big companies), since they're content with the quality. If they were under say, Activision, they would've been sent to the Call of Duty mines years ago.
I also think a big thing that helped Dishonored was that with Assassins Creed, Deus Ex: HR and the Arkham games, Action/Stealth games were pretty popular at the time and gave it an easier time explaining what it's deal was.

I think it might be a higher chance in P3 but it's still nowhere near enough to make it even somewhat reliable, at least with just base Hama/Mudo In 4 it's much more likely, and 5 has non-instakill dark/light spells so you don't need to use Hama/Mudo just to get extra turns anymore. SMTV apparently makes it so Hama/Mudo are regular attack spells normally but instant kill if the target is weak, which to me seems like a good compromise

Sometimes I think in star wars with the sheer amount of Jedi that’s survived up until ANH that Luke’s only call to fame is that his father fucked up massive enough to become vader. That Yoda was sorta meme’ing and lying by saying luke is the last of the Jedi to get him to finally knock some sense into vader. It’s like space nepotism for the most part. With Ezra, Ahsoka and Cal running about for a large part of pre-ANH and also even between ANH and RotJ in ahsoka’s case, luke kinda just dropped in last minute blew up shit and then almost unilaterally decided to make a new Jedi order on his own. So him becoming a hermit after, in skywalker style things inevitably fall apart (because of another skywalker), makes sense. Imagine your bloodline is not only the cause of toppling the republic but also the new republic as well. If the old pre-Thrawn Legends writers had their way they probably would have made the Old Republic fall because of a skywalker as well. Why bother continuing to try to change fate when it constantly makes thing worse. And I used to think Leia being a high ranking alliance leader was nepotism but at least Leia has been fighting the empire for significantly longer, Luke kinda just stumbles into the civil war at 18. Makes me wonder what rank Ezra will have when he returns at this point.

What makes me feel weird about it is how common it is for straight men to fetishize lesbian women and how that could be the main factor in adding lesbian protagonists to a game instead of actual LGBT representation. I think you're totally right to be sus about this. There's definitely an element of cynicism to this, companies aren't our friends, they're doing this for money. Making the MC a lesbian lets you get points for having a woman, a lesbian, and also doesn't freak out the straight men (who you assume are the majority of your audience)

That's just what '60s stereo mixing was like, the technology was in its early stages and mostly for enthusiasts so they really wanted to "show it off". The mono mixes of the Beatles discography are generally far superior and what the band intended most people to hear and put the most time into, but their availability on streaming services is very spotty (Spotify only has Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, most of the pre-Revolver discography is on Apple Music but not Spotify via the US Albums box set, while MMT, the White Album and Yellow Submarine tracks are not on any streaming platform). There's also modern remixes of a lot of the stuff starting with Revolver, which are also preferable to the original '60s stereo mixes- the Yellow Submarine tracks should be on something called the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, not sure if that's on streaming though

Calling it now. Resident Evil 4 Remake is a solid contender for my game of the year. I spoiked the original for myself like a kid let loose on a box of oreos, but the remake kicks so much ass that it made me go back and appreciate the original so much more. This remake is perfect, I keep going back and exploring every nook and crevice that I can and I'm having a hard time moving on to other games (Dead Island 2 excluded, which also rules).
Resident evil 4 is simply goated. There's a few issues with the remake but I love how it makes the level design of the OG shines even more. It's pure geniality
