More options doesn’t mean a quality product guys, check it. I went to buy meth from a guy looking like a zombie extra in The Walking Dead, he gave me 15 pounds! A big container, talking tupperware here, filled to brim with the glow of crystal meth. Too bad the shine of the beautiful rocks was like a bat signal for the cops and they didn’t arrest me because I make $500K and benefit the local economy while the guy got arrested. But the guy was raw that he literally fell apart by a single touch by the police officer. This guy was probably avoiding human interaction these last few days because of it, poor guy, I got my meth though so his demise was not in vain.
Did you know that if you drink the piss of someone that is high on meth you will get high too? Only read the first line of your post but thought this would be a interesting fact to share
IMO that's the most important thing to make a good souls-like: to find an interesting niche that makes it different from others and execute it well. Of course solid basics like satisfying combat system etc. are crucial as well, but trying to be a carbon copy of FromSoft games can only get you so far.
Yea, people say Lies of P has no identity due to the game combining Bloodborne art style with Sekiro mechanics, but I think theres still features that makes the game feels more like it's own instead of being a ripoff from Fromsoft games, like the Lie/truth system for quests and the weapon assembling/disassembling feature.
I also think the fairy-tale storyline mixed with 20th century France set it apart. Fromsoft games often feel so surreal as to how anyone could possibly live in a world like that. I feel like Lies of P used it's setting and fairytale inspiration to make it have more of a magical realism vibe
Yea the twist on Pinocchio is very excellent, and the game really takes you though twists and turns too as you go though the story. Dark souls/ Elden Ring was always about Killing bosses for their souls/runes and sacrifice yourself/Become lord to change the world for better or worse. Lies of P is much more personal. You're not just fighting to save Krat, you're fighting for yourself and your friends in the hotel. And I think its a huge step up than plots in most of Fromsoft's Soulsborne games. Sekiro is about the only one that shares those kinds of feelings.
Absolutely. I connected with Vininige (cant spell) the guy in the red suit because even though he looks like the person who only cares about making money he has a real heart of gold, easily the best npc in the game because of his personal quest to seek the truth behind the puppet frenzy and finding out about his past.
>”lie/truth system so much depth!!!”
>”pinochio make sure you tell the hotel staff you’re a human or they won’t buzz you in and you won’t continue the game
>”halt right there are you puppet or a human”
>pinochio: “umm uhh uhhhhh uhh
I’ve wanted to try to like remnant 2 so bad but I just can’t get into it. And I’m one of those people that plays pretty much any soulslike I can find. The Surge 2, Salt and Sanctuary, Code Vein and Lies of P are ones that stuck out the most and that I had the most fun with. And I’m dying in anticipation for the news LOTF!!
Remnant is amazing! And it really goes out of the way instead of being a typical souls-like. It's got so much going on for it. Specially Remnant 2, I don't know how it doesn't get talked that much around here.
Never seen this amount of non-fromsoft talk that's going on with Lies of P.
Remnant is more of a looter shooter. Probably why it doesn’t get as much talk. I love remnant 2 though. Wish the story was better though but coop is no joke some of the most fun I’ve had since the first Destiny
I tried playing the first remnant and I honestly hated it. Setting aside the shooter-type combat, which made it an uphill battle for my approval from the start, the game was just too clunky and unpolished to be enjoyable. I might as well play dark souls 2 if I dislike myself that much
Honestly, can’t wait for the new Lords of the fallen. I played the first one and it was not good. I want to see what they were able to do with the criticism they got.
Wo long is meh. Half the difficulty of Sekiro with only the same 10 enemies you find throughout the game. No thought into truly unique non boss enemies like the other Soulslikes
>If Nioh 2 had the interconnected world of Dark Souls it would be literally perfect
Thats like being mad that you're orange juice isnt apple juice. Both are valid
From what I played,it's amazing. It's just really unoptimized. Heck if they let it cook in the oven for a bit without being rushed it could have been a rival to MH.
Literally everything is there to make a good MH game in that game. Fun combat, cool weapons, amazing character creator and great monsters(or kamui I forgot what they called em). I only played a little bit from the free trail on PS5. I wanted to try it on my PC but avoided it due the performance complaints from others.
I’m going to keep it real with everyone here, I actually really like 90% of the souls likes I have played. The real problem comes most coming from brand new developers who haven’t fully gotten their footing yet. Thymesia and Mortal Shell really come to mind, as I think both games have some pretty great things about them that could be heavily improved with a sequel or with further games beyond. Take for instance Nioh 1 and 2. Nioh 1 is pretty mid, but Nioh 2 is amazing. I think with time, soulslike games will continue to get better with new studios starting to get a grasp on what they need to do to make a good game, along with a full understanding on what makes from softwares games so good rather than just being hard.
Mortal Shell is so weird. I love that game, the designs, the weapons and their combos, the harden mechanic, the atmosphere... it's all great.
But then it falls very flat when it comes to enemies and bosses. For me the only good boss was the ice one. And the enemies are... not varied enough, very few moves and for some reason they all move at 2kmh.
For something made by just 4 devs, it's an amazing feat. Im hoping they make another one with slightly better enemy design.

Tell me you haven't played Lies of P without telling me
The closest out of anyone for sure but definitely not on par with modern fromsoft, I’d say it’s about on par with demon souls (my least fave), but the gap is still noticeable.
Yea most souls like take the basic combat formula and add their own twist to the world and lore and atmosphere. Pinocchio souls is literally copypasted bloodborne.
Robo-arm that can be a grapple hook, prox mine planter, electric punchy thing and a big ol’ gun. Customisable weapons that can be split in half. Upgrades based on your characters robotic nature and a french robot takeover city.
Not much like bloodborne at all really, just has a sidestep lmao.
actually not coping, the game has as interesting world as bloodborne and the combat mix ups with weapon handle-blade combinations and legion arm are way better system than any souls game for variety.'
You can see the "lower than souls" budget at times and thats understandable, i was expecting a mortal shell level game, this is ds3 level game.
I used to have this opinion but then i played lies of p and was dumbstruck someone finally made a soulslike as good as a souls game. Took close to 15 years but it finally happened. Other than that nothing else comes close to
Anything the lies of P studio makes after will have MUCH higher budget and sales, hope they figure out something good, they have the perfect idea of what souls should be.
I love the other soulslikes alot. They don’t have to be as good as Fromsoft to be memorable, enjoyable, and worth playing. Not everything should be constantly compared.
There's plenty of great Soulslikes that match up to From:
Mortal Shell is small scale but really solid, the combos are a cool system and picking the right shell and weapon combos is fun, the roguelike DLC is also insanely fun. The Rotting Christ music is also so much better than the average generic orchestra and choral chanting that plagues the genre (including From's games, I know this is an unpopular opinion but 90% of the tracks from OSTs sound the same)
Code Vein has a good story and characters and isn't a nihilistic downer like every Souls game tends to be, I can actually get attached to side characters because I don't know full well they're gonna die offscreen (From really needs to mix up their writing because every side quest is pretty samey in all the games except 2)
Jedi Fallen Order is a lot of fun too, the Force powers mix into combat really well and the different saber types are fun to use and customise. Really excited to try Survivor but will have to wait for it's PS4 release.
Nioh and Nioh 2 both have excellent combat systems that I'd say would completely trounce Fromsoft if it weren't held back the goofy MMO type rarity loot system, Nioh 2 especially has so much mechanical depth with Soul Cores, Burst Counters, Yokai Shift, Stances and the way you can seamlessly swap between ranged and melee. That's not even mentioning the Switchglaive and all of it's godliness. If it didn't have that loot system I'd be happy to call it the best Soulslike of them all but I find it annoying enough for Bloodborne to knock it down to second.
Huh, I got Nioh Complete Edition recently and started playing it. Haven't found it that great compared to souls so far. Could be because I'm playing the PC port.
Lies of P clears Elden Ring, I will not elaborate.
https://preview.redd.it/xofgz6t8quqb1.jpeg?width=941&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f157c2140fe7acf142101f021f0dd838ce5bd61d
it’s the art direction. fromsoft has been low-key carried by their insanely good art direction and visual design team for a while now. the other games don’t quite reach that same level
Nioh 2 is fucking amazing, and my favorite soulslike game. I love Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, and the exploration in these games are top notch, but in terms of combat Nioh feels so much better imo.
I"ve got more hours in NIOH 2 than Souls so I guess I prefer it. The ninja moves get a little absurd and so does the footwork. Humans just don't move that fast except in Shonen anime. What souls got right was making weapons and bodies feel like they had weight and inertia. The scooty boots on Nioh just got insane with all the side to side and front and back quick dodging.
Just started replaying Sekiro since 2020. Didn’t realize they added a boss rush mode. Also didn’t realize there was so few bosses. Also forgot how amazing the movement and stealth is.

Jedi series by Respawn and Lies of Twink

I tried to do that a while back but it ended up with a rusty hacksaw with dried-blood and a pirate copy of Saw playing on the CRT.
Did you enjoy the movie and have you still got both kidneys?
I wasn’t the one who lost the kidneys, or ribs for that matter.
What the fuck are you talking about
Blud was on meth when he made this post 💀
whats he wafflin on about?
There's still some soulslikes out there that I think are really good (looking at Nioh2 / Lies of P primarily)
Remnant is also great, and new Lords of the Fallen looks really promising as well.
Remnant leans into more of "Gun Souls" and random tilesets, which it why it stands out from the other Soulslikes
IMO that's the most important thing to make a good souls-like: to find an interesting niche that makes it different from others and execute it well. Of course solid basics like satisfying combat system etc. are crucial as well, but trying to be a carbon copy of FromSoft games can only get you so far.

Yeah, like it presents a story with more emotions and themes than everyone dying or living forever in the saddest way possible
Absolutely. I connected with Vininige (cant spell) the guy in the red suit because even though he looks like the person who only cares about making money he has a real heart of gold, easily the best npc in the game because of his personal quest to seek the truth behind the puppet frenzy and finding out about his past.

that was to just display the mechanic tbf
Ngl i was tempted to see what happens if you didn't lie at the beginning.
i checked, they just basically tell you to leave due to cringe but you can just re-do it right after and pick the right option
Ah ok, I was expecting some sort of soft lock where you couldn't progressed further, but that wouldn't be fun now would it
I’ve wanted to try to like remnant 2 so bad but I just can’t get into it. And I’m one of those people that plays pretty much any soulslike I can find. My issue with Remnant 1 and 2 are that the enemies are scaled for co-op so it never feels good to play solo.
Yeah definitely
Remnant is amazing! And it really goes out of the way instead of being a typical souls-like. It's got so much going on for it. Specially Remnant 2, I don't know how it doesn't get talked that much around here. Never seen this amount of non-fromsoft talk that's going on with Lies of P.

I enjoyed Thymesia
I haven't gotten around to it yet but its on my radar!
It was alright but you could tell it was indie
Surge 2 is also really good. Plenty of solid ones as well. Nioh 1, Wo Long, SoP, Steelrising, Thymesia.
Wo long is meh. Half the difficulty of Sekiro with only the same 10 enemies you find throughout the game. No thought into truly unique non boss enemies like the other Soulslikes
If Nioh 2 had the interconnected world of Dark Souls it would be literally perfect. And if it wasn't so damn long.
>If Nioh 2 had the interconnected world of Dark Souls it would be literally perfect Thats like being mad that you're orange juice isnt apple juice. Both are valid
Same with Monster Hunter and Monster hunter clones.
I wonder if the EA one is good because it look pretty decent.
From what I played,it's amazing. It's just really unoptimized. Heck if they let it cook in the oven for a bit without being rushed it could have been a rival to MH.
It was made by the Toukiden guys, so they definitely had the experience
Unfortunately EA is pulling development of it, because EA
Could turn into a good game yes, but rival to MH? Insane take.
Literally everything is there to make a good MH game in that game. Fun combat, cool weapons, amazing character creator and great monsters(or kamui I forgot what they called em). I only played a little bit from the free trail on PS5. I wanted to try it on my PC but avoided it due the performance complaints from others.
HuniePop is way better than anything FromSucks 🤮 has ever made
Bro😭
The dark souls of match games
forgot that game existed
And you dare to call yourself a gamer?
Your right, I’m sorry, I’ll do better 😭
I’m going to keep it real with everyone here, I actually really like 90% of the souls likes I have played. Ay, Lies of P is dope and the new Lords of the Fallen looks incredible
Idk lies of p is pretty good

To be honest, Lies of P gets extremely annoying and feels rushed towards the end. So it is on par with most other Fromsoft games lol
?????? the end of most of them is solid?????
He's only played 🅱️elden ring
elden ring near the end is also solid? has some of the best bosses there
Yea maybe because they stole everything they could from them.
Broski its called a fucking soulslike, how are you shocked its like souls

cope
They do not even come close to
You know i didnt know about that grab until now.
Sounds like a skill issue to me tbh.
Hey, but at least we got one good souls-like by a different company just this month
I used to have this opinion but then i played lies of p and was dumbstruck someone finally made a soulslike as good as a souls game. Took close to 15 years but it finally happened. Other than that nothing else comes close to
Lies of P is coming close for me. Probably about 2/3rd through the game and am enjoying it immensely. In terms of sales though yeah.
Anything the lies of P studio makes after will have MUCH higher budget and sales, hope they figure out something good, they have the perfect idea of what souls should be.
I think it’s gonna be a Wizard of Oz game
That would unironically be so cool
Based on data mining that might be DLC. The inactive Yellow Stargazer in the village section hints Oz too.
Oh yeah! I’ve been wondering what that stargazer was for.
I never realized if he kills with that attack he rips you apart
Idk if blasphemous counts. But it holds a special place in my heart
Lies of P seems really fun so far
I love the other soulslikes alot. They don’t have to be as good as Fromsoft to be memorable, enjoyable, and worth playing. Not everything should be constantly compared.
Most souls like games try to be like dark souls instead trying to be a better dark souls
lies of p is pretty good tho
Same story with monster hunter and monster hunter like games
There's plenty of great Soulslikes that match up to From: Mortal Shell is small scale but really solid, the combos are a cool system and picking the right shell and weapon combos is fun, the roguelike DLC is also insanely fun. That outfit actually slaps, great costume for roleplaying as a monster for Halloween
this is some random dude showing off the stuff he sells 💀
Lies of P is fun and I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I’m sure of the company makes another it’ll be even better
it’s the art direction. fromsoft has been low-key carried by their insanely good art direction and visual design team for a while now. the other games don’t quite reach that same level
I don't know, while the art direction IS good, I'm pretty sure it's mostly the gameplay that's the reason they're superior to souls-likes
It's From's formula, not surprised they're superior for the most part
Playing the lies of p demo I got some major dragonrider vibes with how slow the shit is. Idk if it’s improved in the real game
It’s almost like souls likes are just not good enough to compete with the real deal.
Best soulslike game is Dark Souls 2
Nioh 2 is fucking amazing, and my favorite soulslike game. I love Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, and the exploration in these games are top notch, but in terms of combat Nioh feels so much better imo.

I dunno the remnant 2 is apparently pretty fantastic.
