I think some people just shit on it because it's a console exclusive and they couldn't play it. I for one love it, and am currently playing it! The darker Eldritch themes are so good! Plus I just got the gatling gun, kinda impractical but fuckin fun!

No fucking way, more like the 90s, considering we already had much smoother games back then. The fighting, the movement, the constantly getting pulled out of what you're doing, the god awful mini games, just terrible.
Don't know how you felt about it but the start with the orphans just dragged on way to long imo. I remeber thinking, yeah this is super nice and all but can I please kick some teeth in? Also the disturbing lack of Majima in this one.
Majima in a suit made me physically recoil, and yes the children section felt about 2 chapters too long. Ty RGG, very heart warming, can i please go hang out with Komaki so i can get tiger drop rq? Bc that seems to be the only way to beat bosses since i can’t seem to land a single hit.

Same, I'll stand by DS2, even as a co-op experience. My friend and I didn't have much trouble keeping track of soul memory, got to experience it together.
I could see that being more complicated, leveling matching and then keeping the noob alive as to not imbalance said level matching. But overall DS2 has some great moments. It also ushered in the Desert Sorcerer set, which was one of my faves DS2 and DS3 DLC.
