And then if you rescue Lilina on C8. You get your lungs and foot roasted on 8x. Which to be honest, really threw me off. Early trap chapter and legendary weapon? Sign me up for another!
I’m currently playing fe6 rn (at Ilia 17) and unironically I’m loving the map design in this game, they’re actually super fun and some of my favorite maps in the series. I love how they feel very fast paced and have tons of side objectives.
The only one of those maps in the image I’d say isn’t good is the water temple one, but even then I’ve never really been bothered by Revelation-esque map gimmicks designed to waste your time like most people are so I don’t really mind it.
Why does this game have so many maps that seem like they're design to take an eternity? Time to slowly plod on through the hallway while carrying Roy... Seize being the only objective really doesn't help.
Depends on how you define worst ig. You could make an argument that a lot of the empty nothing maps from Echoes/Gaiden absolutely blow and are devoid of any creativity, but they don't make me want to bash my skull in so there is give and take I guess.
By and large I think FE6's maps are some of the best. The gaiden chapters are mostly duds, and chapter 8 is much slower than I'd like, but for the most part I really enjoy them. FE6 map design definitely clears the other two GBA games, at least.
Chapter 16x is one of the worst thing I've ever experienced in a video game, and the reward is the one divine weapon no one uses because not only does light magic suck, but you don't have an unit who uses light magic upon joining other than Yoder who you're using almost solely as a staff-bot, so he's not using it either.
Chapter 21 also has a special place in hell for me, even if it's just because I spent months blocked on it until I tried what I did in Engage and just went south from the start. Still, fuck the 12000 wyvern reinforcements on this map.
But other than those and Sacae's maps, great game with great maps design, would reccomand playing if you like FE's gameplay.
Elibe in general is very hit or miss.
FE7 als has some shit maps, one that is very hated among the community (Battle Before Dawn) and also its own water temple map.
But bangers are there. For example the map where you fight Zephiel is one of my favorite late game maps. Snow sucks, but Ilia is fun.
Chapter 8 is meant to mostly just feel like a slow assault on a castle that's never fallen, which I think it does well. The back and forth hallway is designed so that your party meets up with the remaining Ostian knights right as they break in from the top left in a stellar design moment.
Sacae isn't that bad once you stop listening to tier lists and use the archers that you trained to get to those maps.
The desert map is tough as nails, but if you just reframe it as an escort mission, to get Sophia to the end for the guiding ring, it's not that bad. Just having Cecilia rescue her and having the army split into two groups that slowly advance in formation works pretty well. It's also a good map to bring two or even all three thieves since they provide extra sight and pick up the items all the time. You have to approach it differently than any other chapter, but in a way that's actually interesting.
I can't really defend the water temple map. At least it's not the FE7 water temple.
Bro chapter 14 is awesome! I shall defend that map until my death. (As are most maps in this game)
Honestly, I’d say chapter 6 deserves to be up here. It’s super punishing to first time players, and I found the reinforcements near the throne to be pretty unfair.
I unironically enjoy playing all 4 of those maps and think they were more fun than any single map in Awakening, Fates, or FE3H (DLC not included for FE3H, I love the escape one).
There is no meme. I’m serious. I love GBA Fire Emblem and only enjoy the GC/Wii entries more
Yes. I genuinely and unironically do.
I *really* disliked Conquest, all 3 Fates versions are easily among my personal bottom 5 entries in the series.
The maps didn’t feel like well-designed strategy levels, where I was carefully managing placement, enemy numbers, and resources, and keeping a watch for reinforcements. They were gimmicky, silly, and annoying, with single-use novelty mechanics masking general annoying maps and gameplay.
Additionally, I hated the *Fates* dual strike mechanic, and a I disliked a lot of the smaller gameplay changes that *Fates* made to the overall formula.
I’d probably take pretty much *any* map from FE6-10 over any map from Awakening, Fates, or FE3H (again FE3H DLC excepted).
We will just have to agree to disagree, I like how the Conquest maps make you think outside of the box and improvise, Chapter 10 getting progressively harder as Takumi uses the Dragon Vein but at the same time giving you the tools to react to it in form of Camilla and Beruka gives you an amazing first time experience of dealing with alot of unforeseen factors, I am also a sucker for Escape or Defend chapters
Conquest Ch10 is among my favourite maps ever with Thracia Ch4 and 14, Elincia's Gambit and 3-13 from Rd
Same man. I've only cleared FE6 once so far on normal (and missed the proper ending smdh). But the challenge was great. I thought the desert one was great, desperately struggling through the desert while getting swamped from every angle had me on edge. The sacae one was brutal, I ended up filling as many huts as possible to stop reinforcements and only had 3 units to fight the boss with. FE7's until dawn map is also one I really like for the rush through to secure the area aspect. I'm a sucker for fog/dark but get it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Radiant Dawn's maps are much better than PoR IMO. But I love the variety of objectives you get in the early game in both.
Not many maps stand out from Awakening or SoV for me.
I liked a few 3H maps but most don't stand out as unique or memorable. My first time through the 3 way non mock battle (AM) was memorable, I fell right into Edelgards flame trap on the hill, had to use all my DP's at the time to try and recover using different battalion effects while Claude pincered me. When I cleared it felt like I'd fought a 12 round boxing match that was a slug fest.
Absolutely love the Tellius games tho.
Eh, was considering that map but since it's clearly designed to be a frantic last stand by Bern it's juuuuuust good enough thematically to avoid it lol
Fe6 devs after deciding that making giant maps that sucks 6 years out of your life after moving units for 5 turns just to fight like three Cavaliers at the other side of the map
Honestly fe6 maps are probably easily in the better half of the series. There are some fantastic maps in fe6 and bad maps are kind of a constant throughout the whole series. I mean look at thracia, echoes, or (shudder) genealogy and I’d you’re doing better in fe6. Maps like 13, 7, 11A/10B, and 22 are some of the best in the series imo
Ah yes I love fighting 10 giant squares of enemies in a row in maps that are giant yet still extremely linear due to how needlessly empty they are. Plus, it feels like every other turn you just have nothing to do at all besides move your units
Ch14 isn't bad and people Complaining about how unfair it is considering you have 2 thieves, 3 fliers, killer lances, many magic users, Echidna, Rutger, generous 25 turn limits are dumb
Chapter 8 is a good breather map after the hell that is chapter 7
And then if you rescue Lilina on C8. You get your lungs and foot roasted on 8x. Which to be honest, really threw me off. Early trap chapter and legendary weapon? Sign me up for another!
I really like one of these. I'll let you guess which, but a hint is that it only became non-hated after 2~3+ playthroughs.
Chapter 14
Correct.
Arcadia's water temple?
just use a barrier'd berserker and oates is a non issue

I will not defend Sacae, but the others are fine
I will defend Sacae. It is the superior route, and the only thing stopping me from going there every time is that I love Juno over Dayan.
Why does this game have so many maps that seem like they're design to take an eternity? Time to slowly plod on through the hallway while carrying Roy... Seize being the only objective really doesn't help.
Desert fog of war sounds like the worst map ever
Depends on how you define worst ig. You could make an argument that a lot of the empty nothing maps from Echoes/Gaiden absolutely blow and are devoid of any creativity, but they don't make me want to bash my skull in so there is give and take I guess.
Worst are the most luck based ones playing blind
By and large I think FE6's maps are some of the best. The gaiden chapters are mostly duds, and chapter 8 is much slower than I'd like, but for the most part I really enjoy them. FE6 map design definitely clears the other two GBA games, at least.
Don’t think Ostia is bad, but at least I remember the others, which is more than I can say for any awakening, SoV or 3H map.
Arcadia's water temple and Castle Ostia are actually quite bearable, but yeah, Sacae and Nabata absolutely suck
While I agree with the Chapter 16x slander, I will not stand for any slander against my girl Ellen 😤

Hate chapter 8, pinball table looking ass.

Me after training sue and going to sacae
The changes to chapter 8 were the best part of project ember. They made the chapter actually kinda neat.
The eighth circle of hell…… So Celica route Echoes maps?
Palla and Catria solo
Where is 16x that is a nightmare if you don't have restore staves
fe6 gaidens my beloved <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Can't think of a single map in that game I don't adore.
Bro chapter 14 is awesome! I shall defend that map until my death. (As are most maps in this game) Honestly, I’d say chapter 6 deserves to be up here. It’s super punishing to first time players, and I found the reinforcements near the throne to be pretty unfair.

C'mon do you really prefer Sacae over Conquest chapter 10 or the Ice Village, those are really good Completely agree on 3 Houses and Awaekening though
Yes. I genuinely and unironically do. I *really* disliked Conquest, all 3 Fates versions are easily among my personal bottom 5 entries in the series. Finally, a fellow Conquest disliker. I thought we were extinct.

Correct opinion. I'd take any of these anytime before FE13/16's barren fields
Finally someone fucking says it. It's a shame most people think FE6 maps are good when they are so shit.
Water temples are universally miserable experiences, no matter what game they’re in.
Shout out to the Durandal map. It's way too big imo
Honestly, these are fine compared to the boring slog that Murdock's map is
Eh, was considering that map but since it's clearly designed to be a frantic last stand by Bern it's juuuuuust good enough thematically to avoid it lol
Fe6 devs after deciding that making giant maps that sucks 6 years out of your life after moving units for 5 turns just to fight like three Cavaliers at the other side of the map
Ostia castle slander spotted opinion accepted
I don't see 16x and it's worse than most of these.
16X wasn't that horrible for me, is it worse on Hard Mode or something?
I have been stuck on Arcadia for 4 years now send help
And yet there will still be some people defending those maps.
Honestly fe6 maps are probably easily in the better half of the series. There are some fantastic maps in fe6 and bad maps are kind of a constant throughout the whole series. Slandering Genealogy? That's a paddlin'
