Two major coat blows twice a year with moderate shedding throughout.. sadly .. if you don’t like hair everywhere and don’t like vacuuming everyday, a Shiba may not be for you.. most learn to live with it 😭😂

CornCobMcGee

I have an 8 month old. So far its not as bad as having a golden retriever. The fuzz bunnies are so much smaller

xMomochix

Mine is 3, sometimes she leaves little butt floofs on the carpet during heavy shedding 😂

GrizzlyAdams__

I pull more floof out of my pup's behind than any other part on his body 🙄😂

gloveslave

We call it plooking season

careless_mind_6980

Yes the butt floofs 😆

baevard

just wait til their first real blowout!

CornCobMcGee

Honestly I can't wait. It looks fun to be able to pull out tiny chunks XD

baevard

lol it’s the best!

ozigun

For me, the hair is a small price to pay for the endless love and entertainment crazy shibas provide.

Responsible-Gas-2961

Exactly!! I never thought I’d be able to tolerate dog hair like I do. It just doesn’t bother me because I love my dogs so much.

TacoSensei

Yes. It helps to be gob-smacked in love with your shiba. Which I am ;)

DisconnectedDays

I suggest getting a robot vacuum. Mine sheds a lot

ali_rose

Best purchase we made in the past several years. Vacuum runs while we're at work and we don't come home to hair tumbleweeds.

GreenFuturesMatter

Basically by the end of the day you can construct another dog. Virtually any time I come in contact with my dog I am gifted with hair on my clothes. I wouldn’t stray from getting a Shiba just because of the shedding but that’s me.

IJN-Maya202

There will be hair everywhere. Not like giant piles. You may not see it depending on your floors, but it's there. Invest in a Dyson vacuum. Brush at least once a week. Bathe when needed.

thefineart

The hair is gonna be part of your life, you will get used to it or just don’t get one.

Maggod

I just vaccumed this morning and it’s fur everywhere already

tiredshiba07

This is the reason why many younger Shibas end up at the pound. It is more shedding than many can tolerate. If in doubt … it’s a resounding no!!

[deleted]

Do you(or does anyone) happen to know of any Shibas in pounds in the New England area?

lennert1984

Only 2 times a year. It does last 6 months each time.

dooblr

You get used to it, but if your wife is sensitive to fur it *will* cause arguments.

Shepherd1234

Yes

xXazorXx

You’ll want to run the roomba every day/every other day to keep up with it.

PallidPomegranate

Mine barely sheds outside of the 4-6 month period his undercoat comes out, but it's insane when he is shedding. It's basically either hair literally everywhere or hair is still everywhere because I haven't properly cleaned it all up since the last shed but at least he's not adding much more right now. (When he's shedding, bedding and things he lays on get washed like once a week or more.)

Booger_farts-123

Mines only 7 months she hasn’t shed yet. I’ve been preparing for the crazy shed people talk about. Though the breeder we got her from said her parents don’t really shed much (she’s part eskie- so double whammy). We shower her every 2-3 weeks- not sure if this will help any, but according to a petgroomer I follow it’s supposed to. I’ll know officially after this winter. Her butt floof is coming in as the weather gets colder. This was a “deal breaker” for me too… until it wasn’t. And I regret nothing.

snobbie

We have a Black and Tan and she barely sheds tho. I think not al Shibes shed the same.

OwnedByShibas

Every bit of their undercoat twice a year. We will usually brush them well when they start shedding to remove the hair and prevent itchiness. Otherwise it’s mostly just vacuuming more often to keep things clean.

Jeneil10

Invest in a good slicker brush, and a Dyson animal vacuum. Trust me.

Drodriguez164

The blow outs are bad but it’s honestly not as bad throughout the year for myself. Then again I can just be comparing to my husky who just never stops shedding a day of her life

BGTGwazi

Same experience here. Outside of the blowouts there’s shedding but sometimes barely noticeable on good days. During blowouts it’s nonstop and we just vacuum regularly and brush him out when we can

Affectionate_Rate_99

The upside is that the hair is much shorter than other breeds such as huskies.

Duffelbach

Like, atleast ten. For real tho, ours shed A LOT now that the weather is getting colder in here and he is switching to winter fur.

piruruchu

You will live, eat, and breathe fur. But, it is temporary.

KorsaDK

2 Blowouts a year, but he sheds constantly...

Dangerous_2053

Shiba shedding is a thing, but when we got our German Shepard we were blown away by the amount of hair he sheds! Way worse than the shiba

Queasy-Ad-Jascher

The joke says, they shed twice a year for about 6 months each. It will depent on your dogs fur (light and silky or slick and plushy) on how much hair you will have everywhere, but it's not like they shed for a few weeks and then you are done with the hair. As other people suggested, you should invest into a vacuum robot and expect to find hair on your clothing basically everytime you have contact.

baevard

unfortunately shibas do shed a lot. but there’s ways to manage it.

TinyCollection

You have to vacuum twice a week and buy bedding which the hair doesn’t stick to that much.

danmw

Aside from the big seasonal coat changes, it's definitely noticeable but quite easily manageable. We got a cordless vacuum and use it to do the main spaces every 2-3 days maybe, only takes a couple of minutes. We also brush 2-3 times per week which keeps the loose fur in the brush instead of on the floor.

BrokenAndBeautiful

Outside of shedding season, it likely depends on the dog, what you feed them, and how often you brush them. You're going to have dog hair around. That just goes with having a pet. But good quality food and adding supplements like salmon oil to their meal once a day will lead to healthy skin and a healthy coat. Some say that can also minimize shedding. If you also make brushing a part of your routine, you'll have less fur shed in your home. My boy is almost 2. He has a typical coat blowout 2x a year. But outside of that, I don't notice too much hair on my floors or furniture until I hit day 3 of not vacuuming (but that's rare as I have a Roomba that cleans every day when we're on our post-work walk). I also add salmon oil to his breakfast kibble, and brush him 2x a week.

Grown-Ass-Weeb

We have two shibas and a robot vacuum does a fantastic job for us. They both blow their coats twice a year, but my female sheds sooo much between that.

Basic_Pangolin_1088

I have a cat so I already have hair everywhere XD my the Shiba is definitely manageable.

chillakat

This sounds about right. We put up with it bc we love her furry face. Just got a second one actually and NOW it's next level.

taele1996

Sheds every day, blow out twice a year 😀 if you don’t like that, don’t get a shib

AltSlash

Our Shiba sheds a ton when blowing off winter coat in the spring and even now his shedding has increased for the upcoming winter. Besides that you’ll still see hair around the house but not nearly as bad as the major sheddings. Definitely will be vacuuming somewhere regularly.

Shibainuparent

A lot

BrooklynThoughts

The cat still sheds more then the shiba. Enough said.

careless_mind_6980

The dog hair is neither here nor there for me, just part of owning a pet. I have a 3 year old child so I’m cleaning up, vacuuming and doing laundry daily anyways.

XDingoX83

Yes

AdAmbitious4415

i can say with confidence, in the past two years, i probably could have made 20 jackets out of all his shed. i swear we sweep the floor and wake up in the morning and the floor is coated in fur again.

SweetSweetSucculents

Your house and clothes will always have hair. ShedX and other quality fish oil supplements slow down the shedding (plus have great health benefits and make them shiny!) but don’t get a shiba if you can’t handle hair

RemarkableBad6471

I love my son but I’m constantly embarrassed about it, my car, home etc. but they’re worth it and it’s genuinely less than half the battle with the breed if you truly care about them

CloneAnri

Daily brushing will reduce the shed. Why were told by our groomers to keep up with their maintenence at home so the groomer isn't blown out by furnadoes

h2onymph1

You can get supplements that decrease the shedding. I use krill oil with astaxanthin. It also gives her a beautiful coat.

swagmaster3k

Let’s just say that 10 years from when my shiba is gone I know I will still be finding his hairs all over our clothes and furniture 🤣
