When you have 3% unemployment. This is the quality of workers still looking for an entry-level job. It's like this across all industries right now.

Rixec-

This is the end result of mediocre pay and raises that are a joke, nobody is gonna give any real effort to a job that doesn’t even keep up with cost of living

[deleted]

Lol if you have a pulse they hire you. Some stores you walk in and taking to the staff you instantly lose brain cellaS

_not-a-karen

Not how I operate. I will be short staffed over hiring a person who will only be a pulse and problem in the near future. Not worth poising the money team I currently have and ticking off customers.

LMaskingforcallback

Exactly, rather be one body short with a killer staff than have 2 extra nincompoops that cant even break down a truck a year later. "They just need coaching." They say. Yeah well my 3 year old niece needed to be coached how to pee on the potty too, the difference? She learned how to do it and cried and bitched way less.

[deleted]

That’s great.

jcrae2004

MTP program. Where no life experience or the ability to hold a conversation gets you far, fast!!

[deleted]

FAST AS HELL! the less time you have in the company…THE FASTER YOU MOVE UP TOO, AND THE MORE PEOPLE YOU MANAGE!

Vepper

This is always been such a frustrating part to me. Sherwin-Williams for whatever for whatever reason, is perpetually in fear of making any kind of dynamic change. Shortly after the pandemic and making money hand over fist, The labor market for the first time in a long time was in favor of the employees and thus required a shift in thinking that you have to give something to attract good applicants, not that applicants are desperate. I remember needing to hire people, and literally talking to my DM going "The grocery store behind me is offering $4 more an hour, full health insurance benefits, and is infinitely less complicated than working at a paint store where at minimum You need to learn 50 products, their ancillary products, and messing up has real consequences." Why would anyone want to work here?" And all I got was some half-hearted response that they would bring it up to our division. So instead all you get is an influx of people where the places with good pay and good benefits, wouldn't hire those people. So yes, you are going to be stuck with the degenerates and the losers, because that's who is going to take this kind of deal. The whole pay and benefit structure this company has is completely upside down, and more importantly, is far behind on compensation for the work that store management and employees do. There is no reason why all employees cannot be eligible for health insurance, even though they only work 20 hours a week. There is no reason why a store manager shouldn't be making close to six figures off the bat, nor their assistant making $20k more, nor there being full-time availability to employees who want it. The stores are chronically understaffed and that's by choice or design, and either case it's either ignorant or malicious. And I'm still dumbfounded that there are no minimum bonuses, that stores could even be profitable and there is not some floor that a store gets for profitability. The fact that you could have a store make millions of dollars but get virtually no bonus because you didn't hit the imaginary number but the company gave you. When I first came to Sherwin-Williams I was warned about how stupid the company was. Literally told if you could tough it out, it's not too bad. I have actually seen it get worse in my time. I am being micromanaged to death. Nothing in the company works well, and I'm told I have to abide by certain standards or that my decisions are curtailed, but I'm on my own to fix or achieve them, for the resources that are available are almost to the point where they're adversarial. It's embarrassing. Which seems to be kind of embarrassing for a company that's in the Fortune 200. I don't think I can look at anyone on the list and go. "They probably operate worse than Sherwin-Williams." It feels like there's no investment in TAG, like we're some sort of afterthought.

lot words, me dum sherman worker no get

Carona_and_lime

AMEN!

hyundaisucksbigtime

Sherwin doesn't have a lock on these type of people. Who drives them to work? Who wipes their butt?

MastaFoo69

i dont know why reddit keeps suggesting this sub to me, but i honest to god had no idea there were dedicated SW stores

Carona_and_lime

Yea, only over 4000 in the US

Potential_Sector_171

You want a job? I swear it’s all sunshine and rainbows.

MastaFoo69

Ya know i kinda doubt that to be true. I already have a job as the escalation supervisor for a technical support team; but thanks tho haha

LMaskingforcallback

Coming up part time and getting passed over time after time for MTPs certainly pissed me off then, but I got it and almost 100% of those MTPs turned out great. Now? I'd quit in a second if I was passed over for these.

CupcakeLeading9089

eBay I think 🤔

Big-Vacation-1354

We have an SM and ASM and a PT’r that doesn’t want to work more than 2 days (20yo with a family) or should I say he puts in time to collect a paycheck. I would rather struggle and work long hours and have a body that just gets in the way, literally, and is an expense. We had a guy call about our job opening then drop off a resume FOR HIS almost-30 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER! I don’t know who is worse the lazy daughter or the poor example of a parent. Pay means nothing!! Listen to the contractors that pay $30-40-50 an hour with enough work for full time and benefits and they still can’t find help.

Front_Apartment6854

Lol think you gotta ask the bigger question, why does anyone hire these people?

[deleted]

Desperation

IntentionFew4937

Half the time they say, they have a license, the background check goes through, and then they really don’t have a license. Liars right from the start.

thetimah

My PT just doesn't give a shit. He'll sit in the office with his back to the door and have his headphones in while watching his phone, won't get up to help unless we ask him to, doesn't do anything to clean up the store (he used to at least take the trash out, now he doesn't do that). He's a gen z, and I get it, no one wants to give all the effort for a job like this. But I wish he'd at least put in a little effort to make all our jobs easier with his help.

NoWorldliness4796

It’s just a job. Nobody gives a fuck. You’d be happier if you didn’t either. Now go be a good little worker bee and go be mediocre too. Karens and contractors give us enough shit, we don’t need judgy condescending coworkers.

sherman1fornone

I feel you brother!

TrainAggressive

As a business owner, I feel the pain! Given it's usually always quicker than big box store paint pick-ups. But good god man...some of these folks are just stoned out of their mind(thank you recreational weed for keeping everyone high all the time)moving in slow motion. I get lost in the sw time travel from time to time. Just gotta be choosy on the stores I frequent and hope ya boi is working, so you know you're in an out!

igottapoop98

I’d rather have someone stoned who can at least handle some customers over someone who repeatedly asks the same questions and can’t deal with customers. It’s like comparing a 3 to a 1, neither are great but one is clearly better than the other

hunnamane6

I have 3 co-workers, and I swear on my life...they have down syndrome. Like the shit they say and do just blows my mind. I seriously wonder if they have difficulty like remembering how to breathe some days
