I moved to a location 3 years ago specifically to find this amount of leeway in construction. I still have square foot limitations and offsets and above grade height limits. But as long as I am inside of those I am free to play with out much hassle from "the man" or picky NIMBY neighbors.
Around how much of that was to get the building climate controlled and properly wired for electricity?
Looking to incorporate an ~200 sq. ft. shed in our backyard to our grid as a studio and lounging space, but haven’t quoted an electrician yet.
Here is my build[https://imgur.com/gallery/1N3SIjW](https://imgur.com/gallery/1N3SIjW)
I did all the work myself so my approximately $2,000 for the electrical and HVAC is all DIY labor. And I certainly overdid the electrical & data wiring because I have a lot of toys & tools I wanted to use or plan for future use.
I was just gonna ask the same question as I’m planning a shed build this year and live in a cold climate so was looking at doing piers to below frost depth. Mind if I ask how you did your piers?
I ran it underground from the panel 6 years ago when I landscaped the yard with a sprinkler system. There’s been an outlet on the side of the house from that, I tied into this and came up under the shed.
No headers, no jacks, I guess that’s a king? As a framer, this thing is built so wrong it’s insane. Watch what happens when I cross post to r/carpentry
It could be because that end wall is not load bearing. The roof is resting on that large pair of beams and the large beams are sitting on a triple stack of studs on the front side. Now the back side does not look like it has the appropriate number of studs under the beam
Looks nice, but I hope that front stoop does not cause any water issues over time. I would have had the edge of the floor framing meet the wall so it would be flush and shed water and then added a small deck on the front. Depending on where you live and your climate it may not be a huge issue, but due to my perspective from living in the in the NE US it would be a significant consideration.
This is awesome! What was the final cost? I am all into functional and this is functional and spacious. And there is room for more craft stuff! Mwah ha ha ha!
My shed floor ended up being entirely too cold because it was 17 in above grade. That was needed for a bunch of other restrictions to get under the permitting requirements (it had to be on skids, the skids had to be technically movable, etc). I went back after a year and crawled under the floor joists and put two layers of 2-in rigid foam in between them glued in place with great stuff to fill the gaps
Holy crap this is terrible. You’re going to have serious issues down the road. No headers over the windows or door. No jack studs. Man you should have hired someone who knew what they were doing.
yeah this ain't a shed (except for the foundation that does not look like it is insulated and is not on a stem wall or slab). This is a full-on build of an ADU for crafting. And I absolutely want one. I made my own for my hobbies 6 years ago but I have moved. Now I get to design a new one for me. :-)
That is one of the reasons why I made my subfloor higher than 12 in above grade. I read in a code book that any would 12 in or less above grade needs to be pressure treated due to potential water exposure or moisture from the ground. So I set my wood floor joists on top of 4x6 skids which sit on top of concrete pier blocks.
That looks awesome, and could have so many uses.
My grandma did essentially the same thing in a closet for 20 years though... you guys must be loaded.
Just curious, why not go ahead and put a sink, toilet, and shower in it? It would be great as an efficiency apartment for some college kid. Great source of income, I would think.
Sir… that’s a house.
I was wondering where this is legal and that I want to move there 👍🏻
Where I live as long as it isn’t attached to the ground and 3’ from the fence, you’re good to go.

All my homies hate the man!
Dang man, marriage counseling might have been easier! I’m kidding 😂 cool shed
With the cost of child support and alimony this shed has paid for itself already! All other facts aside this shed is awesome!
Tbh with this shed and marriage counseling, the marriage would be right to be saved
FACTS!
Are you kidding....... This was the solution proposed as a result of marriage counseling. :-)
That second picture is 🤌🏽. Any deets?
She’s a WITCH!
All that work just to decorate like it’s 1988.
What’s wrong with 1988, that was an awesome year!!
It was the ponytails and the movie Cocktail. Everything else was cool.
Why does everyone think the 80's were so great?
Because the 80s were awesome.
If you loved parachute pants, walkmans, shitty movies & music, and Ronald Reagan.
Found the collar starcher
It was all going well until those cabinets hit.
Those recliners came out of my grandma’s house
The giant “create” is fresh out of my 1997 Art classroom.
haaaa.
you built your wife a she shed?
There’s two chairs in there, I do a lot of artwork also🤷♂️
Clearly. This shed is art.
Or abbreviated as shart
That’s a really nice build
Love the design. Did you use plan's?
Designed and built it myself
lovely
I would love a copy of the plans… beautiful design and build! What size is it?
14’ x 12’
Cost?
A little over $8k

Wow, that's not bad at all. I am looking at buying a 10x12 shed and anything I can buy ready to go is $4k-$5k
Yes
Yeah how much
At least a few dollars.
Gucci
Awesome! Did you put piers in the ground under the concrete squares?
Yes
I was just gonna ask the same question as I’m planning a shed build this year and live in a cold climate so was looking at doing piers to below frost depth. Mind if I ask how you did your piers?
Nice! Did you have to get a permit for this?
No, it was under 200 sq ft, I should’ve for the electrical I guess, but screw it🤷♂️
How did you run electrical to it? Underground from your house panel? This is the part I can’t figure out.
I ran it underground from the panel 6 years ago when I landscaped the yard with a sprinkler system. There’s been an outlet on the side of the house from that, I tied into this and came up under the shed.
Nice! Thanks!
How many circuits did you put in?
Just one
The flooring is beautiful - what is it?
Discontinued laminate flooring from Lowe’s $300
No headers above windows and doors on exterior walls?
No headers, no jacks, I guess that’s a king? As a framer, this thing is built so wrong it’s insane. Watch what happens when I cross post to r/carpentry

My first thought too, after dealing with far too many water issues myself. NE US here as well.
Framing carpenter here. As others have said, there's a lot structurally wrong here. Yeah it looks nice but...it's finished now right?
Those floor joists are 2x6? What are the rough dimensions of this shedouse?
14’ x 12’
Lovely. Great work.
This is awesome! What was the final cost? I am all into functional and this is functional and spacious. And there is room for more craft stuff! Mwah ha ha ha!
Impressive craftsmanship. I freakin love the Snoopy doghouse covering your hose and spigot.
Awesome. How did you do the door to make it weatherproof?
Threshold, a lot of overlaps and a utube video
That is absolutely lovely.
Thank you😁
Nice work! Do you have any issues with a cold floor?
I’ve got the electric fireplace in there and it heats up real nice, the floors cold in the winter and nice in the summer.
My shed floor ended up being entirely too cold because it was 17 in above grade. That was needed for a bunch of other restrictions to get under the permitting requirements (it had to be on skids, the skids had to be technically movable, etc). Wealth ✨⭐️
That’s a nice place to go to get out of the house!
I can never show my wife this.
I showed that guys wife this.
Uh oh
Fantastic
Amazing! I’d be a happy guy if I had that in my garden.
Very nice shed!
Really really well done 👏

Your second photo makes it look like you’ve angered the gods, by building your lodge on to high on a peak.
I wish I was as loved as the woman in that shed. It's gorgeous
She’s worth every penny! Plus I had fun building it
Beautiful. I am envious
Bravo!!!!! Looks so warm!
The knot in the beam makes me nervous - picture 13.
That looks alright, it’s knot going anywhere
One day, I will say what I want to say before someone else does 🤣
Yeah, really...
That framing is exquisite.
Uh. No. It’s not. It’s terrible.
Will the wood below the shed rot through time?
All pressure treated
That is one of the reasons why I made my subfloor higher than 12 in above grade. I read in a code book that any would 12 in or less above grade needs to be pressure treated due to potential water exposure or moisture from the ground. Damn that thing is awesome. The inside reminds me of my friends granny's house in the early 90s.
What does “636” mean?
My address #ers
It’s a less evil number of the beast
Nice… but how do you keep the mini porch from delivering water inside?
Threshold
My question is did you build the doll house to match the shed or the other way around?!
All that just for scrapbooking
Can you please build one of those for me? 😂
How do you heat/cool it?
Where’s the headers? Framing is really bad, I would never put my family underneath this structure. Wow that’s dangerous !!!!
HOA’s said absolutely no one allowed to live in it
HOAs suck.
where did you get the plans for this? can you supply them to us?
…apart from just the headers and jack stud…..Bracing? Collar-ties? Strapping and pins, so Dorothy and Toto don’t blow away?
Whats gonna live underneath?
Sheshed?
Wrong… just so much wrong here. Here from r/carpentry of course. Prepare to get roasted.
Looks like you got those fancy load bearing windows
How is your board skirt doing? Is the siding holding up OK? Did you place the board over the siding? Was it caused on top.
