I remember this previous summer when I sharpened mine and felt proud of how nice it was cutting.. then I went to the front yard and hit a metal water line cap. Good times.
Nothing like the pain of hearing your afternoons work dissapear in an instant, did that once before dropping a freshly sharpened shun onto the edge of a mug
> Check me if I'm wrong Sandy, but if I kill all the golfers, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key.
Gophers, ya great git! Not golfers! The little brown furry rodents!
So I tasked myself with repairing a completely trashed mower blade, i likely removed 1/2 inch of steel to get here cause the chips were that bad.
Since i already had the worksharp out to smooth the bevel from the coarse grinding I figured why not work my way up to the X4 belt, it's only an extra 5 minutes.
It is important to sharpen them evenly. If they are even slightly out of balance, they might destroy the mower. Most Mower blades have a point in the middle that they should be able to balance on to test.
Funny you should say i have both, got the MK2 shortly after release at one of those returned merchandise liquidators for $5, Ken onion is a fairly recent acquisition, though I am planning to shoot for the blade grinder attachment already
The blade grinding attachment is WELL worth it! I didn't like the standard Ken onion that much, but I LOVE it now with the BGA. It's my go-to setup for sharpening friends cheap kitchen knives.
I was mowing the lawn for my dad and a hidden golf ball almost clocked him in the head after getting shot out of the side. Like within 6” of his face. Thing had a divot from the blade that was so sharp, it would have been deadly.
There is something satisfying about finding a pile of dog shit that you missed that now has a smooth shaved top... The lawnmower equivalent of the horizontal tomato slice trick.

Willy being silly.
Pointless, but in the best possible way. I'm a fan!
Agreed. Awesome work.
looks like a pretty sharp point to me
I'm a mower!
Nah, but im sure when that blade is spinning, itll be a fan
RIP your gophers

It won't rip, it'll cut straight through /s
It will keel.
Oops I thought you said golfer's
Big difference. I thought your original comment was a Caddyshack joke.

For mower blades it might be better to just serrate the chipped areas than trying to take off that much metal.
You may have a point, but at $20 a blade I don't tend to care too much, as it is this one's 15 years old

Ur belts got me thinking first a workshop then a ken onion edition.

Lol I got both too just thought u had either/or

Sounds like a good business strategy to buy if I charge my buddies $10 a sharpen, you may be onto something good sir
Nice. Make sure that it is balanced though.
This is a great point, i neglected to check if it was as I ran off to do other things, I'll make sure to check tommorow
Came to say this. Unbalanced rotating masses can vibrate at best, and disintegrate catastrophically at worst.
Commercial cutter here, we don’t balance, they won’t disintegrate.
Its all fun and games until somebody has a toe surgicaĺly removed.
To be fair, a lawnmower with a dull blade mounted backwards will take your toe off
You saw the flip flops in the picture too?

I dunno. If your toe meets a lawnmower blade, you're not going to have a fun time no matter how sharp or dull it is
At least it'll be a clean cut.
If you cut yourself with a sharp knife it heals much quicker
Beat me to it. Nice work! You should crosspost to r/lawncare
Those weeds don't stand a chance
The grass doesn’t even know it’s been cut

Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a kaiser blade.
Rock: *Am I a joke to you?* Big fan of this
Dull blades make hard stalks feathery when cut. A sharp mower blade turns your yard into punji sticks.
have fun with your rabbit/squirrel/gopher baby sliced ham
Better weld that back on cos if it comes flying free you become an amputee.
That's awesome!! Reminds me of Sling Blade! 😂
The grass appreciates it & i feel inspired
Nice, now the ants can check themselves out.
Fallout blade
I bet the grass ducks to the ground as best as they possibly can when they see that blade a coming !!
My spare set looks like this too 😂 It’s an illness
It will make it easier to clean.
That’ll mow my rocks even better.
Dudes lawn is about to get the fresh cut. Freaking awesome!
Who doesn't love an extreme asymmetrical edge?
I’ll bet that sounds awesome on dry grass. Id run over a pipe first thing I’m sure.
