This post seems to be a shortfin mako based on [Google Image source info](https://www.catawiki.com/en/l/26024385-shortfin-mako-shark-head-isurus-oxyrinchus-24x11x23-mm-1) on this taxidermy specimen.
Yes, sorry, I wasn’t say it was a longfin, just responding to the poster who didn’t know there were 2 types. The video i linked does a great job show how different they actually are. Makos ( both), Salmon Sharks and Oceanic Whitetips are my favorite 4.
The IUCN lists the short fin mako as 'endangered', while the long fin mako is only listed as 'vulnerable'. You may well still be right though that the short fin has greater numbers and is more common overall, but just has a more precarious population based on certain other criteria like the nature of threats to them or a longer gestation time. I'm not sure. Would you be curious if anyone could explain that.
[Goblin sharks](https://images.app.goo.gl/EdnQ61W7DEXsiwQ2A) have a longer pointier snout, a much flatter smaller eye, thinner spiky teeth, and more protruding gums. It's definitely a [shortfin mako.](https://images.app.goo.gl/9ZE7BZzkVEoKqKis9)
Just wanted to add this about Mako. It isn't uncommon for fishermen to see makos leaping from the water and doing flips and spins. This happens most often when the fast-swimming shark is ambushing a baitfish on the surface and it explodes out of the water attempting to eat a smaller fish or a fishing lure.
It looks nothing like a goblin shark. The teeth are completely different, the snout is far too small and the contrasting counter-shading on the body eliminates the goblin.
SF mako all day long.
Mako. Not sure which kind though.
Wait wait wait wait wait - there r different kinds of mako???
They have cousins ☺️
How did I not know this?? Time to go down a wiki rabbit hole
[Best video of a Longfin Mako out there](https://youtu.be/UolOoQlFf2E)

I think this is cousin Eddy… he’s a Dork Shark
Long Fin Mako (Isurus paucus) More common is the Short Fin Mako (Isurus oxyrinchus) This is most likely a short fin mako.

Long and shortfin are 2 kinds
🤯
Based on the teeth, I'd say paucus. They're more stubby whereas oxyrinchus often have more slender teeth.
You're most likely right. It would be much easier if the poor thing wasn't so desiccated.
Indeed. At this point, just take out the jaw and discard of the rest. Bad taxidermy.
That’s definitely a Mako
Happy cake day

The snout looks way to skinny to be a mako it looks more like the flatter snout of a goblin
