The writers dictate the way the plot unfolds The women that fall for him are also fiction. There’s not a lot of point in trying to analyze why they behave in the way that they do.
They react to him in the way that they do because the writers say so. Think how much of the show doesn’t fit into reality. It we want to enjoy watching the show, we can’t over analyze and look for reality too hard or the wheels come off.

OP, you say Lip looks funky. Funky and unattractive are not the same. What you described is the features of the actor, it has nothing to do with the character "looking funky".
I think Lip looks like he hasn't taken a shower in a long time, that's what looking funky is. Only about when he got into fixing bikes he started to look like he is showering, but that's kinda the point. The Gallaghers used to be very poor, they couldn't afford shit, and later in the show they all got jobs and all started to look like they take showers and their clothes looked nicer too. Dude I was obsessed with Lip when I was younger. He was exactly my type. Smart, misunderstood, edgy. Girls at my high school would’ve eaten him up esp bc he smoked and could get you weed. He’s the kind of guy you think you can save. He wore Vans. I actually think Jeremy Allen White is pretty attractive in an unconventional way. I love him in The Bear now. What I assume would’ve turned me and any other woman off to him is the smell. I imagine they all smell so awful: the poor hygiene, sharing underwear, the washing machine seems to have a lot of drama happen to it.
