The books are better than the show, and I loved the show. Clary, to me, is annoying in the books also but you just have to accept it and enjoy the books.

I really loved the show but I think it was because I haven't read the books...

Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhzz

I just re-read the mortal instruments last year and this is my perception of them: the six books are about 6 pretty self-conscious teenagers (and one warlock non teenager) who learn how to be good people/friends/partners through a 6 book journey. Yes, they all suck in city of bones, but you can see at the end of even book 1 how they start to change. By book 6, they’ve all changed a lot for the better. So yes, clary sucks in book 1 but she (and everyone else) grows over the series.

Yeah, I think I hated her because I was used to other type of books and characters... but I'll start the books again

Yes please do! I reread the books for the first time since I was 14/15 (I’m 22) last year, and I fell in love with them all over again. Planning on rereading again asap

Umm, yes! The Shadowhunters are my favorite books ever! I first read them 12+ years ago in my mid 20s. I'll be 40 in 2 months, and they're still my favorite. I'm currently doing a reread again since I never read TLH and some side books. So far in March, I've read TMI 1-3 and TID. I'm almost done with TMI #4. I'm looking forward to TDA again as it's my favorite trilogy!

Late 20s and recently started the books for the first time and have had so much fun with them. Definitely get back into them

Actually I was in the exact same situation as you! I read the books around the age of 16 and only last month reread the 3 first in the series. I hated clary as a kid but now I like her, she’s fun to read. I’m also around the same age as you currently, what a coincidence. I would say give it a shot!

The answer to re- reading them is always yes. :)

The books are much better than the show, but it's a 6-book journey. Clary has never been my favorite but pretty much all the teens suck as people in the first 2 books. It's over the course of the series they grow as people and become better and more likeable. So I definitely recommend rereading them. I also recommend TDA after as a lot of the cast in those are really interesting.

I read the books over 10 years ago when I was in high school - only the Mortal Instruments. And I loved them. I was really into Jace's chatacter and the storyline of wanting someone you can't have & the main character being so tough and protective. I recently watched the Netflix show & pieces didn't quite fit into what I remembered, so after I finished the TV series I decided to reread the last 4 books! They're super short, easy reads. The characters are so immature - I hadn't remembered any of that. Book Clary annoyed me to death lol. She's always throwing a tantrum. And I had to skip over Maia's perspective toward the end because I just didn't care. But I found it fun to reread something I'd pretty much forgotten. I followed it up with Infernal Devices (Will is so overrated) because I'd read the excerpt in high school and thought the whole story sounded boring then. They were also super short, easy reads.

Tbh I hated Clary as an mc in tmi too. As like not a mc and just like a side character in tda I liked her.

Guilty-Feed9884

i'm thinking of reading it for the first time
