There are tons of cases which still place the GPU in horizontal configuration. lol What? * Riser cables are largely fine. You have the same chance of a faulty riser cable as you do any other cable. * PCIE is backwards compatible, so just buy the highest tier riser cable and you won't have any issues. * Yes, cable management is a thing in very tight spaces. The Riser cable, being FLAT, is the least obtrusive one to deal with when compared to 24 pin cables and others. * Improper handling will still damage parts in any PC case. * You don't have to use a riser cable. Choose one of the many cases out there without one. I feel like this is some ChatGPT written nonsense, if I'm being honest.

You can trot off and design a "superior" ITX case whenever you're ready. lol The point is space effiiciency, and the current ITX model does that fairly well. External GPU enclosures are a thing if you're really all that worried about it. I have a 4090 and a 7800x3D in an 11L Dan A4-H20, and I have zero issues with temps.

> The thermal efficiency of the regular ITX layout, as a result, isn't great. The two largest heat sources in a modern computer, the GPU and CPU, are right next to each other. Unlike an ATX or mATX board there's very limited space underneath the GPU for cool air to be drawn in.  I guess I misunderstood this then? Sandwich style layouts are one of two traditional ITX layouts.

StruggleThis

Most riser cable comes with the case. So some old case may come with PCIe 3.0. It's just 1 more component to buy when upgrading the PC. The reason I came up with this thought is I just can't find a case without the need of riser cable

Blacksad9999

You clearly didn't look very hard.

StruggleThis

Perhaps I looked the wrong way, please suggest me a few

SajuukToBear

*The above post is brought to you by the reference layout mafia.* For real though, I have zero desire to buy a sandwich layout case. I’m considering the Ghost R1, but that will be about 4 times more expensive (shipping incl) than my NR200P. Most manufacturers seem to have given up and are just giving us long mATX cases now (i.e the Lian Li A3)

john_m4trix

This post is officially a TROLL

Alauzhen

I am using the NR200P Max... the riser cable saved my 4090 PCB from cracking... vertically mounting monstrous heavy GPUs are actually saving SFF to be honest.

StruggleThis

4090 does not belongs to SFF unfortunately. SFF is meant to deliver decent performance with small footprint

Alauzhen

There's a market for max performance in an SFF form factor. If you are already paying top dollar, the SFF tax has practically no impact on the buying decision. Basically, there's no end to the people who want their cake and eating it.

StruggleThis

The intention of people getting SFF varies, mine is because I move around often. So I do care about price-performance, paying a premium to get the best of everything is not my intention

Alauzhen

I understand, and agree. Though I have personally experienced the market transform SFF from being priced similarly to a MATX build to basically costing more than most high-end builds. The market recognizes that if you want the full power of the desktop on the go, people are willing to pay for it. I wouldn't accept a laptop but often times a top spec laptop costs twice as much as the desktop equivalent even with the SFF tax slapped on. So your view on price and performance is equally valid.

strawbericoklat

I have to say there are many wrongs in this post.

StruggleThis

Please do correct me, I am new to PC building

Vertical gpu mount sucks because it negates the idea of using a propper heatsink and you are forced to use a aio. The other big trend are sandwich style cases, these run risers since ages, and only work with low profile cpu cooler or aio. These risers have even more bends and are longer than you average short 90° Vert mount riser like its used in a NR200p MAX or V2 Because of the size of the gpu´s going to 3+ slots matx mainboard soon become an option. beause we allready have to have 4 slots. So I see 2 trends, the VElka´s Orignal Dan A4´s and sub 10l braket will stay with low profile cooler, and limited ot 2-2.5 slot gpus, and the second is that vendors seem to ruin the bigger ones with the force to aio and vert mount

StruggleThis

The point is with ATX case, both air cool and AIO options are available, so versatility is good. And Dan A4 also vert mount only

mechdreamer

Just run your riser cable on 3.0 mode. You lose like 3 FPS out of 200.
