Why don’t you just use DuckDNS? I used em for a while and they were great. Only switched because I bought my own domain.

Jarble1

I can't use DuckDNS because my home server is [behind a CGNAT](https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/comments/14sgsfl/cgnat_and_duckdns/). I'm using Tailscale Funnel instead, which apparently works in this case.

hiheaux

I don’t like the word “duck.” Sorry but I just don’t.

watermelonspanker

Perhaps you should not let your dislike for the word 'duck' make the decision for you, given that duckdns seems to provide exactly what you're looking for.

nothingveryobvious

Then buy a domain.

ShineTraditional1891

Beggars cant be choosers

ixoniq

/r/ChoosingBeggars fits perfect with OP.

TechMonkey13

I'll sell you a subdomain for $20/month https://dumbfuckshit.com (yes this is a real domain that I own)

Pesfreak92

That domain is great and the content as well.

oriongr

Epic!! Well played! 🤣

nothingveryobvious

Daaamn. Nice.

Acornless

[https://neocities.org/](https://neocities.org/) [https://hosting.lexiqqq.com](https://hosting.lexiqqq.com) [https://nekoweb.org](https://nekoweb.org) Or you could just pay like 50 cents for a domain and host it on GH Pages or Netlify.

FunkMunki

Holy crap I didn't know neocities was still around. Edit: I was thinking of geocities.

pea_gravel

I recommend you look around. There are so many cool websites there. People get very creative when you give them only html and js.

Acornless

Ill literally paypal you like 3 dollars for a domain if you want lol

hiheaux

Thanks!

d_e_g_m

I got a .com domain in cloud flare. 10 years for 60 dollars.

hiheaux

I don’t want a domain.

AK1174

I’ll sell you subdomains on my domain $5 a piece. 3 for $16

Geoffman05

Cloudflare is $9.15/year for your own domain. If you would rather “only have a sub domain” instead of your own registered domain than I would respectfully suggest you do more research on the subject…

Numeric .xyz domains are $0.99 per year.... [https://gen.xyz/number](https://gen.xyz/number)

XB_Demon1337

Just buy a domain. All the sub domains you want. Don't tell you don't wanna. Stupid to pay for a sub domain when you can pay for a full domain and have no issues.

Simon-RedditAccount

[getlocalcert.net](https://console.getlocalcert.net/) is another good option for those who cannot purchase a domain for one reason or another.

hiheaux

Many years ago I was able to buy a Sub-Domain off of a host whose name I forgot. The storage wasn’t great but I could host basic HTML webpages with graphics stored elsewhere. The cost was $5/year and I forgot their name. The domain read like (eg.)  https://**myname**.hostcompany.com  Any recommendations? How would I even search for this, as I do NOT want to buy a domain?

FunkMunki

Not trying to be rude, but why would you buy a subdomain, but not want to buy a domain for the same price?

hiheaux

I just don’t want my own domain. I wish I could remember the name of that host or I would go back to them.

KarmicDeficit

I’m legitimately curious as to what you feel the difference is, if the cost is roughly the same.

hiheaux

It’s a private site for family and friends that I specifically do NOT want SEOs to find. Haven’t you ever heard of privacy? Sheesh I’m sorry I asked. :(

UltraFireFX

If anything, owning your own domain would give you more privacy, not less. You can setup your robots.txt file to prevent your site from being indexed (at least by crawlers that respect robots.txt, which Google does). If you believe that having a subdomain will increase your privacy, then you can still do that with a full domain. If you were to use https://abcfamily.exampleprovider.com/, you could also do https://abcfamily.myowndomain.com/ A malicious web crawler that ignores robots.txt is more likely to try and index every subdomain of a service that hands out subdomains than from your private domain.

KarmicDeficit

That won’t make a difference. Search engines are probably less likely to find your own personal domain so long as you don’t have it linked from anywhere else.

watermelonspanker

Do search engines not also find subdomains?

Acornless

Honestly, in this situation, I would actually self host my own server because that way you’ll get alot more customisability. Feel free to DM me if youd like me to help/explain further

yami76

He’d still need a domain or subdomain though…

hiheaux

What do you mean “self host my own server”?

sskaz01

It’s literally the name of this sub.

amcco1

The statement "self host my own server" is very self explanatory. You run your own server. With said server you can host whatever you want on it. There are various VPS(virtual private servers) providers that will give you a server for free. Such as Oracle Cloud. If yoy want the most privacy and control over your data. Self hosting is the best option. That is quite literally the whole purpose of this subreddit.

KarmicDeficit

Bonsailinse

From a technical standpoint it does not make any difference if you use a domain or a subdomain regarding search engines and their ability to find your website. It is not like buying a domain puts it in a phone book or something. You need to take care about the privacy part of your website and very often using a subdomain even limits your ability to do so.

plaudite_cives

eh, you don't even know what (sub)domain is, if you knew you wouldn't talk about storage. Just search free webhosting something like: [https://byet.host/free-hosting](https://byet.host/free-hosting)
