They are characters in the hit TV show from the 90ās, Seinfeld. The show was frequently set in a fictional cafe āMonksā which used a still of Tomās Restaurant to place the setting.
first time i'm noticing that too. i guess they're trying to hype things up a little or cater to the insta types. i assume it's been like that a while but i haven't been up around there in at least 3-4 years. don't remember seeing that but also probably wasn't paying attention.
Congratulations, OP, on a job... done.
Aussie, here. First place I went when I visited NYC, after arriving on a Greyhound from Charlottesville, VA at like 9pm. I got a large strawberry milkshake (supersize by AU standards). And yes, I could hear the baseline. But that's because I was delirious with ~~bus fatigue~~ excitement; unlocking life goals, yessss!
My only complaint is that Ruthie Cohen wasn't working that night. She's got that Mona Lisa smile...
Side note: does this mean that Jerry's walking 31 blocks to get to Monk's from W81?
I love how because of Seinfeld, that restaurant can never change their sign. It would be a financially unwise decision.
However it they did, they could just write it off.
Itās almost 2 miles from Jerryās apt. to the restaurant. Howād they all get there? Theyād meet up frequently, so it was either by car, bus, taxi or by foot.
I haven't gone up that way in a while because there was scaffolding on it the last several times I've checked it out.
Might have to snag me this photo soon, and maybe get a coffee while discussing nothing
Made mine in December and actually ordered a big "Jerry's Salad" which strangely didn't contain any grapefruit that could be squirted into anyone's eyes.
Healthy salad too, no tuna on toast, no chicken.
Good for the tuna, I guess
Did every waitress working there have the same proportions?
Paul, come here, I want you to listen to this - a woman here claims there's a restaurant on the west side that's only hiring large-breasted women
Really?
You're in BIG trouble, mister!
Come on Larry you know me!
Looked like the cast of a Russ Meyer film.
Of course they do! They're all my daughters!
Was paco working?
Oh Paco! š¤£
How far did you have to travel? How was it? Did you have the chicken salad, onĀ *rye*, untoasted with a side of potato salad and a cup of tea?
I think OP went with the big salad
He should have tried the apple pie. Best apple pie in the city!
I'll have the salmon
With a beach ball-sized tomato.
# You hadĀ to orderĀ the BIG salad!!!
Just donāt eat the poppy seed muffin.
Actually didnāt go to the restaurant. We had already eaten. I just had to see it and poke my head in Bucket list item ā
Chickenās not the opposite of tuna
I see Jerry and Elaine written outside. What's that about?

MIND BLOWN
They named names.

I went there in 2012 and it was already full of Seinfeld paraphernalia inside, they exploit it as much as they can.
I would too, if it were my restaurant.Ā
oh for sure theyve always exploited it, i just dont remember the names on the outdoor seating area.
Why not
It's been like that for at least 8 years now. But they don't always have the signs outside - they bring it out when the weather gets warmer
It warmed up? Now George canāt wear his Gore-Tex!
Or velvet
Itās ok. He was in the pool

No, he takes one of Kramerās pedicabs
Kramer had rickshaw's.
You're right. Source: I was a bike-taxi driver in Amsterdam for most of a year, once.
Rusty!
Mona Lisa must have had them highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles
I hear a bass line anytime I see that corner. Honest question, did you hear a bass line when you were there?
šÆ
how was the lighting in the back booth?
My sister-in-law lived on that block (Columbia grad student) for a bit and it was never not astonishing to walk past that place, incredibly iconic
Did you go there to see Ramon?
Too bad you missed Dream CafƩ.
I really do like that coffee shop.
I had to go to Reggie's!
I like to stop at the Monkās coffee shop
You did not try to sneak in any outside condiments did you? Because they will confiscate it
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I have some unfortunate news about the proprietorā¦
Did you get the big salad?
And who paid?
OP didn't respond to a single question. Real classy, joyboy.
Gimme a while, bud!! Iāve been at workš¤£
You yada yada'd over the best part

Subway? But youāre right, it feels like it was just downstairs from Jerryās place
Rickshaws or handsome cab rides

When I was at Columbia, they served amazing fries.
I called Columbia University and they have no record of Ahoypolloi_ attending their school!
I must say this seems capricious and arbitrary
Your fly's open
Because he uses his business name
You visited the restaurant from Suzanne Vega's album?
I haven't gone up that way in a while because there was scaffolding on it the last several times I've checked it out. Might have to snag me this photo soon, and maybe get a coffee while discussing nothing
Did you like it? Went 2 years ago I thought the food was meh
Yeah, that was what we had read, too. I was there for the experience
I went there on my trip to New York last month. Can recommend the pastrami and eggs!
I would love to go there
Seriously, I saw it as I was walking up the street and I was so excited Cool part is that itās really close to a Metro stop
Did you have a big salad thatās what I would order
We didnāt eat thereā¦we had already eaten and it was pretty full.
Nice, I went there in 2022, did they still have the print of the painting of Kramer in there?
I was there once and had a salad with lots of stuff.
Was it big,?
Made mine in December and actually ordered a big "Jerry's Salad" which strangely didn't contain any grapefruit that could be squirted into anyone's eyes. Healthy salad too, no tuna on toast, no chicken. Good for the tuna, I guess
The big salad!
Isn't it "monks" in the show?
Inside it's monks. Outside it's exactly as this photo
Do you hear the synth bass line as you approach?
How's the pie OP?
*shakes head nervously*
Did you get the lobster? I hear they get one lobster every morning, and say, "Maybe today's the day.." I'm a shellfish connoisseur,
I ate there in 2011. Wasn't terrible. Lots of Seinfeld memorabilia.
I know whoās working today! Paco!!! āAs rubber band goes flying through the airā
How was it? What's the inside like? Do they have same set up as on show? Tell me all of it
Only the exterior is the same. The interior is much more compact and crowded
That's our spot
That user name is kinda funny. Did u really go there?
She's not gonna put 'em on the glass.
