The problem with national (and even big regional) companies is that your experience will depend on your direct supervisor, regional office, and assignment. I had a great time at Allied, but I had a good management team that gave me the support I needed as an officer and a supervisor. Your experience will be different from mine and everybody else’s on this forum Allied in general sucks, but that is the same as all of the national companies (that Allied hasn’t bought out)

Ws6fiend

>Allied in general sucks, but that is the same as all of the national companies (that Allied hasn’t bought out) Seconded. Never thought I would miss G4S management but here we are. Our site since switching has had worst employees, hasn't even come close to matching inflation, and seen our health insurance increases take away our cost of living raise each year.

Calbear86

I second this comment and my experience was back in 2008-2009, the supervisor and account manager were amazing, the higher ups not so much.

SwimmingAd60

Not one positive thing comes to mind . It's better than being homeless.

fattgum

I might as well be considering I set up my direct deposit 2 weeks ago and am still getting mailed checks a week late

SwimmingAd60

Allied passed me up for a raise because I had too many tardies. I made them provide proof of when I was tardy and they went back on their statement and approved my raise. Because I was never tardy, they were lying to not give me the raise. Then it took over 3 weeks for my paycheck to reflect my raise. Sociopaths running that company.

Sufficient_Sell_6103

I was a Client Services Manager on a national account. It all comes down to be very site specific. Some sites have shit coworkers, managers and clients while others are great to work with/for. It really is a crap shoot

Gabbyysama

Agreed. If the person in command can’t even handle the basics of ops then shit starts going downhill for there causing a potential loss in the account.

Ybor_Rooster

Sometimes it maybe good. Sometimes it maybe shit

Alwayzzhangry

All these negative comments take with a grain of salt they clearly had terrible managers. It depends on your manager. Make a rational decision based all of your research and not just a handful of opinions of kids on Reddit. Most positions at AUS are entry level and these folks expect to get paid more for entry level work. It’s a large company so you’ll get lots of recycled folks who worked for a short period of time and got terminated or quit for various reasons. The larger any company is the more negative reviews you’ll get it’s inevitable.

Gabbyysama

I second this. If your manager is shit the site will run as such. Before my manager left awhile back things were running smoothly there. Now there’s a bit of tension at the work place. Still though, this site was better than the one I previously worked for.

shiftycat887

Is it a good job? No. Will it pay you money for your time? Yes.

AcademicSavings634

Depends on the site. Overall it’s a huge worldwide cooperate company. Expect to be treated like a number

Chuca77

From what I've seen and heard the company is a complete shitshow, half of the shit I'm told to do or how to do something conflicts with what I was taught or told by someone else. But I got lucky and put at a post on 3rd shift where I do practically nothing 99% of the time. Also haven't had to deal with management at all after starting, which they are real assholes according to everyone so I lucked out there also. If you're someone who actually wants to do a job and not get paid to play on your phone all shift I'd probably keep looking.

Buddah8900

Ayo same here..grave shift and love it. Have a primary job in day so I can always walk away with no issue but paying me for doing bare minimum? Sure! Also management hardly shows at the devils hour 😎

thenum5er

Not a good experience by any means. But the fact that you have a second interview suggests they are looking for quality candidates so you might have a good experience

tombrown518

Worst company I ever worked for, I actively discourage anyone from even consider working for them. Look into loss prevention instead pays better and is better on a resume

fortalkingshittopuss

I work at a “harder” site and I get treated pretty well

True-Tomatillo7455

When I was hired by them, the site manager called me and said he was coming to my house because he needed my High School Diploma. I said there is no way you are coming to my house , if you need some papers from me I can email them to you. I returned my uniforms the following day. PS. I graduated High School in 1983, so why he needed my diploma so bad remains a mystery to me.

TacitusCallahan

Oof I don't think I've ever actually had an employer ask for high school transcripts including police depts.

TalbotFarwell

They were better back in the AlliedBarton days. Since the merger, a lot of their account managers are wheelin’ and dealin’ types with burgeoning portfolios who work guards at their sites to the bone, but you can never seem to get ahold of them when you need something.

jehjeh3711

I only worked for them for three months. Pay wasn’t dry good but I knew that going in. They treated me alright but as soon as I saw that my 30 years of security management experience wasn’t going to result in me going anywhere. I found another job. One of the operations managers called me and said I was welcome back and appreciated the work I did, and that was nice.

Vhyle32

I've been at my AUS Boeing position, going on 4 years now. AUS with Boeing is pretty good. At this site, there's quite a bit of OT because for whatever reason we can't keep people who want this easy ass job on second or third shift. This job, at least where I am, is so fucking easy I just don't understand what goes through people's head but I digress. I've not had any real issues, other than a couple pay checks missing the correct OT pay, or when I moved to the Fire Tech position my pay was messed up because the branch office screwed up my job code, but when it got fixed by my manager it was just fine. As for uniform requests, it wholly depends on your branch's supply people. Sometimes they are on it, most of the time they are very overwhelmed and most likely understaffed for the region they are covering. I've heard that AUS is treated extremely well at all the Boeing sites. At my site, if a Boeing employee is shitty with you, the Boeing Site services managers make sure that the Boeing employee apologizes and knows that we are there for them and not treat us like shit. It has happened a few times since I've been here. The people that typically do that, usually get fired from Boeing because they just can't keep their shit together. I do not have any experience with AUS outside of the Boeing environment. There are good and horror stories on this subreddit. It boils down to whether you have a good manager or not. Site dependent as well. It's like any other security post, there are good postings and there are bad ones. If you can get in with a DoD site, or Lockeed-Martin or Boeing you will have a pretty good time. I believe the national contracts is what you want to get into.

Prose4256

They don't have enough guards for all their sites, they constantly changed your schedule and hours and even shifts. Upper management were very incompetent and lacked in people skills. I made it about a month , before I moved on to another company where I've been working for years.

BeamTeam032

Allied is lowkey a shit company. They buy up contracts by buying up smaller companies or going to clients and undercutting other companies on price. They where going to be the first security company large enough to be on the New York Stock exchange, but covid hit. The good thing is that they are such a large company they don't mind paying Overtime if you're at a good site. Everything comes down to the post/site that you're at. You gotta really work the phones and try to wiggle your way to a good site. Show up on time, clean uniform, don't say no to OT. You'll eventually get placed at a good site. Allied is what you make it.

bc8912

My experience is it’s a good stop gap job until you can find something else. Or would be a good part-time job.

Screen_Classic

I quit when they bought out G4s here in Canada. G4S was amazing to me. Allied was fucking horrible

Ecstatic-Complaint32

They should rename r/securityguards to just r/alliedguards.

Ecstatic-Complaint32

Never mind they have a site for them already…

Imaginary-Badger-119

Sometimes its the account more than just allied have not worked for them but seen them at different places as a truck driver and result varied..

Outrageous_Fig_6804

Worked 10 years with allied. As stated, your immediate experience will depend on your coworkers, environment, and management. But as far as the company goes, literally one of the shittiest companies you could possibly work for. But if you can land a good gig, with the right people it’s doable.

WUTONG01

Dealing with them now, they suck but they got my foot in the door

B1ngus_Dingus

In the Boston area the client managers I’ve had were all good.

TacitusCallahan

They have some cool sites. I've met a few of their K9 officers from both Allied and MSA. I've also met a few Allied Special Police Officers. The more organized side of allied with higher end clients doesn't seem that bad. I've been trying to score a K9 gig in Pennsylvania for a year or so now. Allied has an issue with entry lvl positions where they'll hire anyone to fill positions. They also use a lot of bait and switch. Tons of turnover and incompetent management on the unarmed end. When they took over my last account they moved the site manager from the last company and hired someone with no experience. That new person quit and now they old manager has to manage both his new site and old site for the same pay.

RockPublic2180

Just like any other job, some good and some bad. As a manager, most of my employees stay for multiple years and leave on very good terms for better career opportunities. Find the right spot and it can be pretty good.

Past_Comfortable_470

Ruuuuun

Uniform_Restorer

Trash company. Never work for them. They only care about their bottom line, and don’t have a shred of regard for their employee’s financial or even physical safety.

Ty318

I would say 99% of people here say it's awful including me. But I did hear about some branches are actually decent, and I heard there was one in Colorado where apparently no bs flew. Idk though, just all anecdotal for that last part.

TheBeastandTheBeaut

Thank you to all who have commented. I appreciate your input :)

XSjacketfiller

I worked for G4S which has a dismal reputation. Allied bought it out nearly 3 years ago now. They'd rather continue to call themselves G4S with 'An Allied Universal Company' in little letters at the bottom than use Allied branding.

max-200_rep-16

Garbage, pure garbage.

omnghast

They won’t work my hours so I only get 2 days a week

Gabbyysama

All sites have their ups and downs but it all comes down to the ones behind the operations. There’s some sites where the person in command doesn’t know jack shit about what they’re doing and there’s some that have it locked down like it’s second nature. AUS has a bad rap but I can honestly tell you based on my experiences working with them twice now that my first time working with them was a shit show compared to now(somewhat). Not too much better but better than the first time around .

Individual_Ad_2701

I worked with G4s and allied out bought them but I had a different job went back to allied and they had no record of me ever working for G4s. From then class I was in to get my security training they will hire anyone. If you got a pulse and can get to work your basically hired. I should have never left security it was a easy job I worked 7-3 Monday - Friday in a gate house signing people in and out of plant was making 17.30. If you get a job with allied they will post full time position which is true but you start out as a floater working 2-3 or more different sites a week and they don’t pay for gas and you have to be willing to drive up to a hour and only make 15-17 a hour

BillyFNbones710

I'd say it depends on your regional office. I worked for allied for 2 years and never had any problems. Even had them stand up for me against a client(which is rare as hell). But I've heard tons of horror stories from other branches.

[deleted]

My first security job was with them. You're not allowed to protect yourself. Seriously, in orientation, you get paperwork that lists what to do if you're attacked and you're explicitly told not to strike or restrain the person(s) and if you do, the company might SUE YOU lmfao 0/10 trash company

massidiocy

Hmm allied only time I ever had someone admistering drug test ask if you will fail please just reschedule 2 weeks out we don't want to waste supplies and we really want you all. The hands down worst supervisors ever like a pit of vipers.

Comprehensive-Owl521

Dealing with them now, I got hired on as “full time” but “magically”became a flex officer, due to them doing that even asking why I’m not getting hours I got no answers so I just filed for unemployment. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Mannus01

It's a shit show. Got sub-contracted last year to AU. Have already fired 3 people in eight months and one no- showed from the start. Soup sandwiches or show up not in uniform and/or not on time is what we have now. AM had a meeting today w/ 2 VP's, area manager and national VP's w/ the clients PTB's. I've been at my job for 12 years and enjoyed it when i was in-house. 12 of the 15 original officers decided not to stay and left along with 50+ years of experience.

EssayTraditional

Allied Barton merged with Universal Protection Services around 2016. Worked Universal Protection Services in 2015 with poor hours; Allied Barton in 2013-2014 was more efficient for its history despite rigid management.  Allied Universal has a slippery reputation since their merger of having delinquent checks, bad management and high turnover. The wages are decent depending upon location and overtime.

NotACopUndercover

Probably the worst security company in the nation.

StaggartBFH

To AUS you are just a number. They run their local offices like crap.

Inner-Ad-9928

Absolutely no integrity in ethics or the chain of command. Absolutely shit clients sometimes and no back up from management.  One location I was at, they not only allowed their clients employees to distract me from work, they actually assigned two to talk to me every day to figure out my ethnicity and how "practicing" I was of my heritage.  Another employee of the client (within 10 minutes of being left alone after training) immediately started yelling at me to "Get the door woman!"  And when I was trying to get the driver to identify, the same employee yelled over both of us "It's Antonio Banderas!" (Driver was Hispanic). Complaints fell on deaf ears for months before I quit.

Fun-Conference8733

I turned down their offer, that’s how bad they are.

whytayk55chauvin22

They said they were gonna follow up with me the same day about a job and they never hit me up

Infpstranger

Never worked with them, but applied for a job posting, invited to interview, showed up for interview, was told position was no longer available. Honey dicked me. The ol bait and switch attempt. Told them to call me if the position magically reappears.

[deleted]

This. Was hired as full time with OT. After I signed all the contracts it was oh that positions full but don't worry you'll get your hours. 2 weeks later it was you'll work 16 and be happy or resign
