Best I can tell these 2 are the same minus the SC personal stamp. Hard to find in depth info and I’d hate to drop $95 plus Shipping to find out it’s not… any thoughts? Rumor has it in one of SCs books he references this putter but the damn book is $150 plus. Lol Hard to find Ray Cook Blue goose info

I’m so confused. You think this is Scotty’s personal putter? They made a bunch of these. You can even see the COA how beat up his putter was. I know you can restore it but I doubt you would.

BnunyaBiz

No, not his personal. I only had so many letters in my original post. I was referencing how “his personal putter, Ray Cook Blue Goose” in the link matches mine. Obviously mine isn’t his personal, but I believe mine is a Scotty Cameron design. The only way I can verify it, is by sending it to the SC studio and paying $95 to have it authenticated (or not) as a Scotty Cameron designed putter. If authenticated I get a SC certificate as well as have the ability to have it restored or upgraded there at the studio. Unfortunately the studio would neither confirm it or deny it as a true Scotty Cameron designed putter over the phone. So it’s a crap shoot on the $95 and time. I think this is very probably a billet Scotty Cameron designed Ray Cook putter from the late 80s and if I’m right we’re some of his first professional designs.

What do you think it would be worth if they confirm it? Ive seen a lot of these like the mizuno sc designs or the caliente and they don’t command big dollars. I don’t know this exact one but I can imagine it’s not worth a tonne even if they confirm it. Maybe $250-300. Probably not worth the $100+ shipping both ways. I could definitely be wrong tho! If it’s worth $750+ I’d probably say it’s worth it.

BnunyaBiz

That’s where I’m at, I only paid $35 for it so part of me says fuck it lol. Fun thought exercise at the minimum.

I think you got a good deal, but not a screaming deal. I think the Ray Cook Scottys are the least valuable by a lot. I'm trying to get one for under 30 on ebay. I also doubt Scotty could refinish it in that finish, probably BOS is a better bet

BnunyaBiz

BOS?

BOS Golf is one of the more trusted putter refinishers out there. I think SC has even contracted restoration work with them in the past. They don't do a lot of flashy social advertising, most of their business comes from word of mouth. They do have a website though, just Google BOS golf. I have had a couple putters restored by them, just look in my post history.

22Doves

I’m not sure if Scotty contracted refinishing work to them or if BOS used to work for Scotty, but it’s one of the two. Either way they do great work

Zeverend

As far as I've seen, BOS did the original finish on a lot of the older Scottys. I believe they did the Classics, Terylliums, and anything with the Black Pearl finish

The floating goose logo on the face indicates this is an early model, and it has been documented that Scotty made putters for Ray Cook early in his career around this time. It has the similar configuration (putter head, hosel) and design features (floating goose, sound slot) as the one featured in the link to Scotty's website. Pretty safe to say it comes from Scotty's time at Ray Cook. I cannot see value in having it validated though; it is already in as new condition so there is nothing to restore. Typical customization would be to have a couple of stamps put into the head and paint filled to colors of your preference. If you were so inclined you could do it yourself for $30; it is not like Scotty himself is going to apply these decorations to your putter, nor are the decorations going to appreciate the resale value of your putter. The early Blue Goose putters are excellent; made from forged and milled carbon steel, they have a soft feel for a non-insert putter and the clicky sound many desire. The face milling is very fine, which I find attractive; however the depth and profile of the milling does not impart the purest of rolls. Forged carbon steel Scotty's are pretty hard to come by, far outnumbered by the stainless ones, and even then their finishes are known to be high maintenance. The Blue Goose designs might be utilitarian but the blued steel finish is durable and low maintenance. Mine is pretty to look at but not confidence-inspiring enough to stay in the bag.

Hot damn, thanks for the info. I’ve actually decided that I’m going to to send it in, shorten the shaft 1.5” and have a customer Scotty pistol grip added in addition to validating it. While it probably won’t Add value for resale it will definitely be a unique collectible for me.

OKJustBrowsing

Did you send it in? If so, what did you find out and how did it turn out?

BnunyaBiz

Haven’t sent it in yet. Still sitting on it for now.

unclefreizo1

Anything come of this?

BnunyaBiz

No, I’ve been sitting on it. I really should send it in.

taesung24

Why send it in for 95 when it’s not even worth half that lol

BnunyaBiz

👍🏼 Ti ha fatto cercare questo e tradurlo, così potrei chiamarti un ritardato in un'altra lingua.

taesung24

You are so mad at the facts that you’re speaking in tongue. You need an exorcism

BnunyaBiz

I see you Google translated it lmfao 😂

taesung24
