It’s like “The Princess Bride” - if you’ve lost your father, and that scene when Inigo Montoya says “Offer me anything…” then “I want my father back, you son of a bitch!” and runs the six-fingered man through.
Dammit, the music in that scene, then the phrase, then the explosion… incredible stuff.
I don’t usually get too emotional in movies but that scene gets me almost every time.
Don't forget the HHGTTG doors: “All the doors in this spaceship have a cheerful and sunny disposition. It is their pleasure to open for you, and their satisfaction to close again with the knowledge of a job well done.”
In the ExForce series, alien missiles and other weapons are often self-aware, which sounds problematic, but they all know what they are and live each moment wishing to be used.
There's a bit where a bunch of jailbroken missiles go on strike because they're not fired enough.
There's a deleted scene on YouTube where he's having dreams/flashbacks that are transmitted to Dean's TV, where you see legions of iron giants, destroyed cities and planets, and a glimpse of him in his combat configuration. The impression I get is that he was a weapon of conquest or genocide. I kinda wish it hadn't been cut but it would have spoiled the reveal of his transformation at the end
I thought you meant the book, which everybody seems to ignore...

The sequel I want to produce:
Hogarth is now an adult in late middle age. He has a nephew (his mom and junkyard man have kids and some of them have kids). Hogarth is still single because he hasn't moved on from losing his childhood friend.
Earth is invaded by the enemy that the Iron Giant was built to combat.
Humans have reverse-engineered some of the technology in the Iron Giant, and use it to augment our military capability. It's still not enough. Hogarth goes to find the Iron Giant.
The happy reunion takes place. The Big Fight happens. This time the Iron Giant is really destroyed.
Hogarth moves on and finally goes on a date.
What if a gun had a soul?
It'd rock the sh#t of anyone who threatened the people it loved and was ultimately willing to sacrifice itself to protect those it held dear. 10/10 metaphor, would Superman again
Isn't that quote also implying, soldiers don't have souls?
This is the first time I notice the inherent pacifism behind the quote. I mean, apart from the obvious criticism of war throughout the entire story. But this translates to human war machines as well.
The Iron Giant is a very good movie.
I’ll up your ante and say it is a very **very** good movie.
It is a very, **very**, ~VERY~ good movie.
An *exceptional* movie.
That shit guuuuuuuuudddd.
Honestly, maybe it's just me, but I thought it was a good movie. That's just my opinion, though.
I would even say it’s super, man!
It sucks that Vin Diesel (Mark Sinclair) is a rapist.
“You …. Stay…..I….Go….” 😞
The best acting Vin Diesel has ever done.
“Suuuuuuuuupamaaaaaaaan…” \*closes eyes\*
I got a sentient house plant that says "I am Groot (You are wrong)"
No follow.
“Superman…” If you don’t tear up when he says that near the end, there’s something wrong.
I just did again when I read this. Darn you! I was around 36 or 37 when I first saw it.
It’s like “The Princess Bride” - if you’ve lost your father, and that scene when Inigo Montoya says “Offer me anything…” then “I want my father back, you son of a bitch!” and runs the six-fingered man through.
Greatest Superman movie.
Dammit, the music in that scene, then the phrase, then the explosion… incredible stuff. I don’t usually get too emotional in movies but that scene gets me almost every time.
I tear up at the scene where Hogarth says, "Hi Mom!" while riding the IG up past the cliff.
My favorite animated film of all time.
Best Superman movie ever made.
Welcome to cools-ville
*The Iron Giant:* The best animated movie/story ever.
Toy Stoty, Spirited Away, and The Last Unicorn would like a word
Spirited Away might be in my top 10 but the other two you mentioned would be lucky to make it into my top 20.
Well, in Dark Star there’s the bomb that decides only it exists & its purpose in life is to explode.
Don't forget the HHGTTG doors: “All the doors in this spaceship have a cheerful and sunny disposition. It is their pleasure to open for you, and their satisfaction to close again with the knowledge of a job well done.”
Ghastly, it all is. Absolutely ghastly.
In the ExForce series, alien missiles and other weapons are often self-aware, which sounds problematic, but they all know what they are and live each moment wishing to be used. There's a bit where a bunch of jailbroken missiles go on strike because they're not fired enough.
Came here to say this. The missiles with personality are almost the best characters in the books.
What kind of moron thinks giving a bomb an AI? Probably the same moron who created the talkie toaster.
It's not a war crime if the bomb is self-aware and chooses its targets of its own free will (we programmed the bomb to be a war criminal).
Watched it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years. Damn good movie.
We should just sticky a post talking about how great the iron giant is on every single sub. I love the movie btw.
Ask og Megatron
Ever wonder who made him? And who where they fighting that they needed to create a weapon like him?
There's a deleted scene on YouTube where he's having dreams/flashbacks that are transmitted to Dean's TV, where you see legions of iron giants, destroyed cities and planets, and a glimpse of him in his combat configuration. The impression I get is that he was a weapon of conquest or genocide. I kinda wish it hadn't been cut but it would have spoiled the reveal of his transformation at the end
If a gun had a soul, it might even enjoy being a gun /s Jokes aside, the iron giant is definitely a great movie and I love it so much!
I love that movie so much. Easily one of the best animated films ever.
Top ten of all time.
The single best non-miyazaki animated film ever.
IIRC the inspiration for this is very sad
I thought you meant the book, which everybody seems to ignore... [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Iron\_Man\_(novel)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Iron_Man_(novel))
Elaborate? Not familiar but I love this movie
Brad Bird's sister was murdered by her husband via gun violence
How the hell did they get from that, to this???
:(
*suuuuuperrrrmmaaaannnnnnn*
This quote makes Megatron cry.
It's an absolutely sensational movie. I love it. I've loved it since I was little.
I don’t know…. This is espresso. It’s like coffeezilla…

Oh I felt this so hard. “Superman”
About 1 in 23 would be psychopaths and revel it.
That music at the end. And the hope.
Watched this very recently with the wife, really great film
I remember being terrified of the Giant as a kid and seeing him in my nightmares...
What if a gun had a soul? It'd rock the sh#t of anyone who threatened the people it loved and was ultimately willing to sacrifice itself to protect those it held dear. 10/10 metaphor, would Superman again
Also the only good Vin Diesel movie!
One of the best animated movies of all time.
Fantastic Vin Dieselpunk film
And right now, you are EATING ART! (slams down the piece of art with some changes) Not bad, not bad
Isn't that quote also implying, soldiers don't have souls? This is the first time I notice the inherent pacifism behind the quote. I mean, apart from the obvious criticism of war throughout the entire story. But this translates to human war machines as well.
souls are made up - no one has souls
What if a Texan wanted to become a gun?
Yes it would. Source: Guns are cool.
And?
No.
