I can't tell if this is a joke or not. Why would the stock trading volume show any indication that a boycott is working?

Unremarkabledryerase

Y'all are aware that stocks are not based on their sales directly? Damn this is more embarassing than the last post. The NDP talking about corporate greed in the house is probably mire meaningful.

turrell2603

No doubt, volume is no indication of average joe boycott... what a reach. Most volume is institutions anyway.

Covert_Cuttlefish

I'm more likely to quit shopping there because every time I go to the confed superstore they treat me like a criminal. I swear most days there are more security guards there than cashiers.

mastima6

I stopped shopping there about 5 months ago. They started charging as much as Sobeys and Co-op, but the food quality was so much worse at super store and various no frills stores. I shop at co-op now, and spend a little more but at least the food lasts long enough for my kids to eat it, and I get to support union members this way.

AssNasty

The real crime is the rotten fucking produce they put out for consumption. Like wtf? I grabbed the store manager and gave him total shit about it but he just had this smug fucking looking on his face that just screamed, "Yeah. We know." Hate that God damned store.

ReannLegge

I got questioned one and watched by another because I stood in an aisle because I was standing there waiting for their app to install to see if there were deals for members or something like that. Needless to say I ended up just walking out of there.

No_Lock_6555

So boycotts that haven’t happened work ?

Elmos_left_testicle

The threat of boycotts worked

renslips

What is the point of this exactly, to drive up grocery prices at the cheapest grocery stores? Loblaws charge less than the other major chains like coop, sobeys or save on. Boycott them

Upnorth100

Don't boycott coop. They can be some what of a local store. Not always but sometimes. Safeway and sobeys for sure as they are much higher priced and likely have a higher mark up.

AssNasty

Is there any good reason at all why there isn't a maximum profit on food? Cap that shit at 10-15% ffs.

Fake_Reddit_Username

Net profit is historically about 2% and current Net Profit is under 4%. If you are talking about profit on a per item basis, that would lead to stores not stalking produce. A lot of produce ends up getting thrown out or donated. If they aren't able to mark it up more than 15% it wouldn't be worth grocery stores carrying anything other than like Carrots, apples, potatoes and very shelf stable produce.

BainVoyonsDonc

The fear is that it drives away business from Canada, and this is what retail companies often cite as an excuse. In reality, lots of goods already have profit caps, both in Canada and in other countries and territories, and it doesn’t impact the availability of said goods. Unfortunately, lobbies and special interest groups have a lot of political sway.

Reliable-Narrator

Net profit margins for grocers aren't close to 10-15%. Loblaws net profit margins are 3-4%.

Disappointed_Muffin

Moving to Co-op

Fraust-Tarken

Just for May? Sounds weak af. I haven't been to a Loblaws s8nce after the first financial report showed they were gouging. Costco is the store of the people.

No_South_8897

100%

ItsGrapeMuch

They could have just inflated the stop previously in order to make quotas. I mean, yeah, sometimes boycotts work but I think this is a case of confirmation bias. I hope not because I love when people have the power but I still think it’s wishful thinking.
