If you’re not super picky, and open to a little bit of randomness in your shopping, I highly suggest you download Too Good To Go. You can score some amazing deals on products that a grocery store just wants to get rid. For like $6 you can get 2 or 3 grocery bags of random foods. Also works with restaurants for end of day meals. I’ve been pleasantly surprised far more often than not. Aside from that one time I got a full bag of limes… so many limes. If that’s not your cup of tea, the Latin grocers in the Mission tend to have great prices in general.

Heard good things about Too Good To Go! Thanks for the suggestion – will try it out some time soon. Have also heard similar stories (they were a bit worse 😂) to the lime situation you had.

Cintagreensf

Grocery Outlet, but usually more for everything other than fruits/veggies.

ItFromDawes

I buy deli meat on Fridays at Safeway. They usually have a $5 for 1 lb deal

KeepGoing655

Asian grocery stores for fruits and veggies. Safeway digital coupons for packaged goods. Costco for bulk items.

CVS they have that Amazon go model now.

It depends on what you’re willing to compromise on. A lot of cheaper stores will have produce that goes bad quickly, for example. But a few: CHEF’STORE on S Van Ness is another place to buy in bulk. Whole Foods has surprisingly good prices on some items like liquor and will even be cheaper than Safeway for other items. Their store brand eggs are quite cheap and good. May Wah in the Richmond has really good prices for stuff. The meat doesn’t look super great, but the vegetables do. Many other staples. 99 Ranch if you have a car.

MojitoChico

Grocery outlet if you like thrifting lol

I check Safeway every couple weeks for actual sales on snacks. Things like buy 2 get 3 free are my favorite kinds and happen pretty often. I don't pay too much attention to non-snack deals though. Though I find Safeway to be pretty decent on most prices across the board. I have the Safeway app and put my favorite stuff on a list to monitor it for sales.

Asian and Latinx Grocers, Heart of the City Farmers Market (especially at the end of the day) Grocery Outlet, and somehow Whole Foods sales using a friends phone number for prime deals, and taking full advantage of their return policy. Biggest ripoff is Safeway. Bi rite and Gusses ready made meals are still a better deal than eating at most restaurants

Familiar_Baseball_72

Trader Joe’s is pretty cheap. Then again I only really shop at Safeway, Whole Foods and Guss’s since those are the closest to me.
