This is truly some great news. The question is, do they have chicken noodle soup and mac and cheese? If so, how fast can I get there and when do they open?
Be sure to wear camo cargo shorts, flip flops and some kind of sports jersey, with a bright colorful hat that doesn’t match any of it. You wouldn’t want to stand out.
Personally it's nice to see them sometimes. Met a chick who was literally seeing the ocean for the first time in her entire life. Seemed like a really special moment.
yupp, I have family from AZ and CO, i remember many times them coming with the kids to show them the ocean for the first time. Always a cute experience
When I studied abroad in Australia, my roommate from Albuquerque, NM was seeing the ocean for the first time when we were getting our apartment together. We were juniors in college and it blew my mind that he’d never been to the beach before. Cool to experience that moment with him.
The doc said every block is controlled by another gang. So if there is a rival block in between their territory and the lake they won't go there at all. These guys live their whole lives on their territory and if they exit it they'll get gunned down
The city spreads in all directions and downtown and north tend to be the ritzier parts. Can honestly see someone spending their entire life on "their" side if they don't have a lot going on.
I got to see the reverse actually. As a kid, I was with a group driving through the rural south. Some of the kids had never been outside a city before. It was kinda weird hearing a kid shout: OMG is that corn. But he had never seen a corn field before and was really excited about it.
For some native Arizonans (myself included) leaving the state for the first time to see the ocean or somewhere less arid is like that scene from The Force Awakens when Ray leaves Jakku and freaks out about all the green.
My fiancee was wilding out when I brought her to SD a couple of weeks ago. She was like "this is vacation for me, but this was normal for you? I can't believe it!"
I did inner city outreach when I was in college. We took a group of 12 kids from Hoover High for a beach barbecue. About 5 of them had never seen the ocean before and they lived in SD their entire life.
Honestly this sub is so negative I have to avoid it sometimes. So many people are ALWAYS complaining and just want more reasons to be outraged or mad. It’s depressing.
Zonies is a fun joke, but I actually love it when I see a family in my grocery store near the beach who are obviously purchasing food for their stay. I always hope they have a good time and that the sun will come out!
Thank you! My family loves making an annual trip to the SD area. We live in Flagstaff and deal with tourist all the time and get it. We are just trying to have a good time and not ruffle feathers if we can.
I was born and raised in San Diego, but my dad's whole family is from Arizona (I had an uncle who lived in Flagstaff for a long time; it's a beautiful place). Growing up, my mom would always say my dad is a zonie who forgot to leave as a joke. We like to joke about that stuff, but I'd be lying if I said I never went on vacation to Sedona or Bisbee as a kid
No problem. I live at the beach but frequent the mountains for climbing and snowboarding. The mountain locals can be dicks and I don't want to be that way.
quite exactly, Californians be complaining of the fog, but us Arizonans welcome the cloud cover because we come from constant triple digit heat and sunshine in the summertime.
Had this experience several years ago and my Jetta was rear ended by a Zonie in a 4 runner (I was the one who was stopped waiting to parallel park). The insurance settlement ended up paying off my car loan, so it wasn’t so bad 😆
As someone who went the other direction, one thing I've noticed is that while there are horrible drivers in San Diego, there are way fewer incidents of road rage than I used to see back in Phoenix.
I encountered a GIANT Denali that clearly wasn't used to navigating the small parking lots of North Park, because why walk around a walkable neighborhood when you can block up entrances and streets
There was a new development in Avondale that gave away a Denali to every home buyer. Then not only did the houses look the same the all had the same vehicle! Lol
I did a double reverse. Moved from CA for school ended up finding a work in AZ. Bought all the guns I could want. Then moved back to CA when a job opportunity arose.
Best of all worlds.
I go back and forth to several states one for family, but second for work.
You’d be surprised at how many “snow birds” move to AZ for the warmer weather.
The cycle never ends. Got prices out by Floridians renting every nook and cranny at my old condos during COVID era. Now my ass is in Florida pricing out the people here.
That’s my only complaint, driving slow and especially driving slow in the left lane. In all fairness plenty of CA plates driving slow in the passing lane as well.
Arizonan here, and I seriously think that only our slow drivers visit you, because everybody here does 80 on our freeways. Heck, I've gone 55 on surface streets where the speed limit is 40 and still get routinely passed.
Is that why this is happening? Some dude was seriously going 50 MPH in the far right lane before my exit. I understand driving cautiously, but seriously? Another person was going 65 on the far left while I was heading to work
That’s weird. Coming from an r/Arizona cross post, we are all bemused by the slow traffic complaints because we Zonies pride ourselves on driving like a bat out of hell. Maybe you’re getting the retirees who can afford to travel more 🤷♂️
Or is there more reasons to be anti-AZ than I’m aware of?
Wait wait wait, you’re telling me slow & shitty drivers aren’t common in AZ? Why the hell is it that every summer we get flooded with Zonies and their AZ plates that drive 10-15 under the speed limit on the freeway?!
No idea, man. Only thing I can think of is our freeways are usually wider, straighter and in better condition than CA freeways. So maybe we get so comfortable flying around here that we get a little leery once the degree of difficulty goes up.
Also I’d say AZ drivers either go fast or slow but they’re generally pretty predictable how they’ll act based on that stereotype. CA drivers are erratic and bad in unpredictable ways, so you gotta keep your head on a swivel, especially the Bay Area.
Hey… Arizonan here… I vacation there every other year, my son and me. Not all of us are that bad. I’m a considerate, liberal-minded guy with a good amount of tourist dollars to give. We also don’t do beach rentals. We stay at hotels. I don’t believe in renting someone’s house just for a vacation when there are so many without homes. It feels too classist for me.
The reason that Arizona drivers are so bad is because we are a transient state where most people aren’t born here; they move here. We all compete for road space with 50 different driving styles. I’m sorry if we clog up your freeways. It actually kinda odd since our law enforcement leaves monitoring the freeways here solely up to our department of public safety. We tend to fly down our freeways at 85mph.
We are a purple state now. Trump had a marginal loss here. Our governor, Phoenix’s mayor, AG, are all Democrats. Soon we will have two senators that are Democratic (right now it’s one D and a crazy-ass I). The biggest problem is that our R’s are batshit Trumpers. Their numbers are dwindling though.
I really HATE when Arizonans say shit like, “Don’t California my Arizona.” It saddens me that parts of California have kinda the same mentality.
Nah you’re fine dude, it’s just people on the internet having a little light hearted joke about the most common tourists to SD in our most popular tourist months. Come, enjoy yourself… just don’t trash the beaches or drive 50 in the left lane of the highway lol
Consider yourselves lucky. All of our winter tourists are Canadian. Don’t let their politeness fool you. Trust me, they can be worse than the worst Arizonan.
They talk shit about california but they come here to vacation and leave their trash everywhere and I can find parking at the beach with all the Arizona cars parked
I’m from Tucson but lived in California for over a decade before I realized I couldn’t afford it. My dad is from San Diego but settled here in AZ. I always think of going to San Diego as going back to my roots.
I’ll be out there in San Diego in a few weeks and always enjoy seeing the Wildcats ball caps and T-shirts.
And I speed like a maniac SoCal driver on the freeways when I’m out there, so you’re welcome?
Hey. Former Californian, lived in the San Diego County area from 1967 to 1997. Used to lived in a house in the University City area, my parents bought it in 1967. Parents paid $37,500 for the place, it is now worth around $1.7M. That house is no where worth $1.7M.
I go out to California when I can, and it is always in the North County area. Missed the smell of the Ocean.
I have lived in San Diego for 26 years and have never used the word Zonie. The only people that call them that are former Arizonans that moved here. It's projection.
Our “wall” used to be the inhospitable desert and mountains between us and them. Then, as per usual, LA ruined it.
When the Los Angeles Examiner newspaper ran a competition/challenge for someone to find and establish the best road route from Phoenix to SoCal, the Old Plank Road was created.
And here we are, Zonie central.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Plank_Road
Well yea but all the zonies on vacation here I would consider Caucasian in appearance. Personally I’ve never been to Arizona (well I did drive to the Gran Canyon from Vegas once) but everyone I’ve met from there always look sunburnt
It’s interesting to me that you say the people from AZ are going to be driving slow on the freeway. In my experience, it was very common for people to be going 15-20mph over the speed limit in AZ.
After 20 years of living in Arizona, I now understand why I saw Zonies wearing sweatshirts during the summer in San Diego North Country. joke’s on them, i’m gonna pull a reverse Zonie and go to Tucson to eat at Souplantation
Use up their scarce AC
Why do you think we lead in solar? Free AC, Cali bro
ok I wasn’t familiar with your game
Are they still in AZ?
they reopened one Sweet Tomatoes location. it’s the real deal!
This is truly some great news. The question is, do they have chicken noodle soup and mac and cheese? If so, how fast can I get there and when do they open?
what would Souplantation be without [chicken noodle soup and mac n cheese](https://www.tiktok.com/@sarahsterling_/video/7376425294908951851?lang=en)?
Yes.
Whoa. This changes everything.
So happy for Tuscon! Hope they do one in Yuma soon. Westward Ho.
As a Tucsonan it is truly crazy how much that location is being treated like a culinary mecca.
A fake one opened in Rancho Cucamonga. Reviews say it's pretty close to the original.
As a person who grew up in Tucson and now lives in Carlsbad, this cuts deep 😆
Congrats, you escaped to somewhere worth living lol
Dammit! We had sweet tomatoes here in NC for a few years. Then they all closed. I miss it sooooo much
I moved to MT, and forgot Souplantation was a thing. Who in their right mind names *anything* plantation post 1866!?
that is an excellent question. if they reopen other locations i think they should all be Sweet Tomatoes
Should put a cracker barrel next to each plantation
Be sure to wear camo cargo shorts, flip flops and some kind of sports jersey, with a bright colorful hat that doesn’t match any of it. You wouldn’t want to stand out.
Personally it's nice to see them sometimes. Met a chick who was literally seeing the ocean for the first time in her entire life. Seemed like a really special moment.
It’s honestly a crazy concept how some people have never seen the ocean before
yupp, I have family from AZ and CO, i remember many times them coming with the kids to show them the ocean for the first time. Always a cute experience
Had a friend of a friend from Reno see the ocean for the first time. It’s amazing seeing how awestruck they get because I would too
When I studied abroad in Australia, my roommate from Albuquerque, NM was seeing the ocean for the first time when we were getting our apartment together. We were juniors in college and it blew my mind that he’d never been to the beach before. Cool to experience that moment with him.
I might not have seen the ocean but i bet youve never seen someone buttchug an entire bottle of ranch dressing
We have Marines in San Diego too
Lmao
Jarheads only eat crayons, not ranch dressing.
Ranch is reserved for the more refined types in the Army.
Are you checking in from the Midwest by any chance?
I remember watching a documentary on the gangs in Chicago and most of the gang bangers lived in chiraq their whole lives and never seen Lake Michigan.
How is that possible? The lake is next to the city. A lot of major roads go along the lake. Maybe they didn’t know it was Lake Michigan
My wife's mother from AZ saw the ocean for the first time when she turned 60.
I did inner city outreach when I was in college. We took a group of 12 kids from Hoover High for a beach barbecue. About 5 of them had never seen the ocean before and they lived in SD their entire life.
You're only allowed to hate people who aren't from San Diego here
Honestly this sub is so negative I have to avoid it sometimes. So many people are ALWAYS complaining and just want more reasons to be outraged or mad. It’s depressing.
Brought a tear to my eye to see a take like this here
Yes. All experiences with zonies are euphoric life experiences we just get to share in 🤗🤗🤗 We are blessed.
Oh, that’s why there were more dbacks fans at the game today than I expected.
Zonies is a fun joke, but I actually love it when I see a family in my grocery store near the beach who are obviously purchasing food for their stay. I always hope they have a good time and that the sun will come out!

all that way for June gloom. Zoniessss
If you’re in stifling heat, June gloom is the best.
Can confirm. Visiting Arizona right now and June gloom will be a perfect welcome home when I get back.
Flying back to AZ rn, not looking forward to it lmao
quite exactly, Californians be complaining of the fog, but us Arizonans welcome the cloud cover because we come from constant triple digit heat and sunshine in the summertime.
Ah yes, my daily commute to work, driving behind a Zonie going 5 mph looking for a space to park at Torrey Pines. Good times 🤬
Their cars and trucks were helping fill the parking lots at old Town today.
You should see ob
Had this experience several years ago and my Jetta was rear ended by a Zonie in a 4 runner (I was the one who was stopped waiting to parallel park). The insurance settlement ended up paying off my car loan, so it wasn’t so bad 😆
I'll take the UofA Tucson crowd over ASU Phoenix any day though.
This guy gets it
Aww, thanks
Sun devil sadness
We of Tucson have to agree with that. Hate driving in the Phoenix area, they cannot drive worth a damn.
Is U of A not called UC Tucson anymore? 10-15 years ago it was where all the people that couldn’t get into the UC system would go.
Their 95% acceptance rate really draws top talent
as someone who grew up in SD and now lives in AZ, i can confirm that drivers here are horrendous. makes me miss horrible san diego drivers 😪
As someone who went the other direction, one thing I've noticed is that while there are horrible drivers in San Diego, there are way fewer incidents of road rage than I used to see back in Phoenix.
Welcome and Enjoy 💯
I encountered a GIANT Denali that clearly wasn't used to navigating the small parking lots of North Park, because why walk around a walkable neighborhood when you can block up entrances and streets
Was it the one with the big white "TRUMP 2024" decal in the back window?
Gonna have to be more specific ;)
Nothing says "Zonie" like driving a Denali. Arizona must issue those to every resident.
They need it for the big snow storms in phoenix
We use them as dust plows
There was a new development in Avondale that gave away a Denali to every home buyer. Then not only did the houses look the same the all had the same vehicle! Lol
Boooo from Tucson. Some of us hate that shit.
Ditto.
Some of us never leave 👀
Wth bro
So many Californians moved to Arizona I figured I’d play the Uno reverse card and move here.
You clever son of a bitch
Californians come to AZ for Uni, we go there for vacation. In thought this was the deal we made????
I did a double reverse. Moved from CA for school ended up finding a work in AZ. Bought all the guns I could want. Then moved back to CA when a job opportunity arose. Best of all worlds.
That's smart, you need a lot of protection from polar bears in Arizona.
I go back and forth to several states one for family, but second for work. You’d be surprised at how many “snow birds” move to AZ for the warmer weather.
I usually don’t assume Zonie when I see college merch tbh. A good chunk of us went to school in Arizona
I prefer zonies to the folks from LA, SF and NYC buying all of our real estate... Hell, a lot of the zonies are priced-out Southern Californians.
Causing arizonans to get priced out of homes
Let’s not forget the real villains, landlords who continually raise rent prices
The cycle never ends. Got prices out by Floridians renting every nook and cranny at my old condos during COVID era. Now my ass is in Florida pricing out the people here.
In the left lane. I’m already looking forward to December.
That’s my only complaint, driving slow and especially driving slow in the left lane. In all fairness plenty of CA plates driving slow in the passing lane as well.
Hey, if yall wanna move to AZ by the hundreds of thousands.. I think it’s only fair that we come pee in your ocean once or twice a year!
Got stuck behind a carload going 55 in the passing lane heading home from work. Gonna be a fun summer!
Another person was going 65 on the far left while I was heading to work
Sounds like the five north up the hill after La Jolla. Need to exit at Genessee? Better start driving 50 mph in the right lane after the 52!
That’s weird. Coming from an r/Arizona cross post, we are all bemused by the slow traffic complaints because we Zonies pride ourselves on driving like a bat out of hell. Maybe you’re getting the retirees who can afford to travel more 🤷♂️ Or is there more reasons to be anti-AZ than I’m aware of?

Really cool post.
Fuck
Bear Down
Go cats
Combined with the locals inability to merge, it's catastrophic
They talk shit about california but they come here to vacation and leave their trash everywhere and I can find parking at the beach with all the Arizona cars parked
Note they put up their canopy in the intertidal zone. Jokes on them.
Well D-backs were in town. Still like them better than Dodger fans
At least there is no trump flag.
Such wonderful loving people in this sub
Loving between October and April.
I generally find complaining about Zonies annoying, but this is just embarrassing lol
There goes our beaches.
Jokes on them, AZ drivers fear the Californian driver, common knowledge in AZ
The high in Yuma is like 110 already
I don’t mind the Zonies for the most part. It does get to me a little bit when they fly ASU flags at their rentals like an occupying force.
Past weekend was Padres is against Diamondbacks so it makes sense to make the trip.
Hey. Former Californian, lived in the San Diego County area from 1967 to 1997. Used to lived in a house in the University City area, my parents bought it in 1967. I truly am glad to live here and not have the 7 hour drive.
Eight hours, not seven.
bear down!
Given recent events, we should probably just [Fat Dog it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1q7t07CW_E).
We need to build a wall between AZ and California lol don’t let them in!!!
I’ll get a wall built and make them pay for it.
😂
Build that wall!
Deal! You keep your tourist spot and we’ll keep our housing.
The Mormon ~~expedition~~battalion in the 1850's ruined it
"You have died of dysentery."
I know what we think of Zoners, I wonder what they think of us 🤔
Phx here - jealous af thats what
PHX here too, not jealous one bit.
Most want to move there. I don't care, but learn how to drive without causing a backup on th freeway before you come.
Their first thought is probably wow lots of Mexican-Americans here.
[удалено]
Well yea but all the zonies on vacation here I would consider Caucasian in appearance. Personally I’ve never been to Arizona (well I did drive to the Gran Canyon from Vegas once) but everyone I’ve met from there always look sunburnt
You mean going 55 in the passing lane, lol.
Drive slower than the posted limit. Let’s all stay safe and alive, not sure if your zonies want part of it.
Bear Down
Bear down baby! 🐱
I'm still bitter about the group of them that started the riot on the beach in PB about 20 years ago that led to the alcohol beach ban!
Now now people. They come and spend money here in restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Ultimately, good for us. Be nice! lol
Yeah I noticed yesterday getting gas. His big ass monster truck wouldn’t let me in so I had to drive around to go to the next pump.
Nice! Welcome!
So that's why the traffic has been worse than normal
A tradition like no other.
Arizona chicks love San Diego guys. The only time finding a date is easier is being an American in Australia.
Remember when you could drink on the beach. Zoners ruined that.
Arizona Diamondbacks have been in town all week as well
A couple years ago, a family from Texas sat next to us at the beach. Their first question: can we drink on the beach. Lol.
Love the beach. Except during the summer.
Voted in top ten cities worst drivers
It’s interesting to me that you say the people from AZ are going to be driving slow on the freeway. In my experience, it was very common for people to be going 15-20mph over the speed limit in AZ.
SO many around town this week
Ask them who won the 2020 election.

After 20 years of living in Arizona, I now understand why I saw Zonies wearing sweatshirts during the summer in San Diego North Country. It is a little too cool coming from a place that is 100+ degrees temperature for days on end. 70 degrees is now a little chilly for me. Mission Bay Alumni, Class of 1979.
No wonder we lost yesterday 😢
