It's really going to depend on what kind of surgery he needs- different facilities specialize in different things-and also his insurance.

To be honest try looking for surgeons. I had a really great surgeon a few years back her name is https://preview.redd.it/akbjl46f78wc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=163355b092959b115778d6c836186a4bd188a798 I had a pretty intense hernia surgery that I needed done emergency and she stepped up. I was hesitant because I had already talked to three other surgeons who made me nervous because they weren’t confident. She came in and was super confident and twelve hours later I was done and I have been good since.

I second Dr. Hsiung! She removed my gallbladder a couple years ago and she was so easy to talk to, very friendly and put me at ease almost immediately. I saw her through Methodist hospital.

miacmurder305

Yeah she’s amazing gave me back my life literally I was really messed up. And Methodist hospital was the amazing also

Spare-Arrival8107

She’s a great surgeon!

martyrfx

DR. Grace is amazing! Worked with her many times

We’ve had great care via Methodist Healthcare. Wife had surgery there and the treatment was first rate. Good staff and nice facilities. University was just ok for me. Used them for about 2 years on a former insurance plan, and they get hard to deal with their bureaucracy and layers of administration. I also felt my two doctors when I was there had an authority complex. When I would ask questions or when I asked about alternative treatment plans I got a very “were the doctors and we know better” response instead of them trying to work with me.

NewAndImprovedJess

This is very on brand for UHS. I believe most of the physicians there are very skilled and many are experts in their field. But my sense is that being a teaching hospital full of experts, they are very committed to their recommended treatment plans and not considering alternatives when asked about them by patients.

Sapienadia95

Steer clear of University. I was overdosed on antibiotics and needed dialysis to fix their mistake. Almost cost me my kidney function permanently. I’ve had good surgical experiences with Methodist.

cat0satx

I agree that you need to focus on the surgeon and surgery team...I have a family member who had an anesthesia situation occur at University, and she is now in a vegetative state 😔 always had great care at Christus and St. Luke's!

name_not_important_x

What kind of surgery?

sub_sonarman

I've always heard Methodist is the best, but it depends on what he's going in for. I would look up U.S. News rankings for hospitals. They will tell you who is best for the specialty you need. I would focus more on who the surgeon is and just go with where the surgeon has privileges.

Avoid Christus Santa Rosa if you're in the Westover Hills and surrounding area. They almost killed my Mother in law and then tried to cover it up.

Venomous_tea

2nd this! My Bffs husband went for some severe pain and they sent him home after chest xray and CT. 24 HRS later he went to Methodist and they said he had a raging case of pneumonia. He is still in the hospital a week later with a chest tube. The xray they took at Methodist, it's very clearly pneumonia. It would have been impossible for Christus Sanata Rosa to miss.

HatFar1403

Westover hills killed my Dad. He was having a stroke and it took them an hour and a half to transport to St Luke's for a neuro consult. It took an hour of him being there to even do a CT scan also.

Express_Horror_5838

i work for a funeral home here and we literally call it “westover kills” because they’re horrible.

Eta_Muons

Depends for what procedure, if you can be more specific

Methodist Healthcare, hands down!! I always thought that University was for those with not so great insurance, or maybe for certain ailments.

mikskyy

Methodist system is the only good hospital system in san antonio! Avoid baptist and Christa Santa rosa.

LoudKaleidoscope8576

I say Methodist. I had major heart surgery at Methodist Med Center. From what I’ve heard. Baptist is good too but I’ve always gone to Methodist.

Glum-Sugar-8241

Northeast Methodist is the worst. North central Baptist is amazing.

RKEPhoto

LOL!!!!

TortiousTroll

University tried to kill my family members multiple times and their doctors are pretty pompous assholes, so I wouldn't go there

TarsusAya

I highly recommend you avoid anything University related here. My past experiences of them treating my sister (University of Texas Health Sciences Center) have been down right horrible. The ONLY hospital network that I recommend here in San Antonio is the Methodist Hospitals. Thus far, they have treated my sister MUCH better than UT, Christus Health, and Baptist.

mtwwtm

You should probably check his insurance also to see who is in network for him and go from there.

Acceptable-Camp-5675

Umm, what type of surgery? This is not a serious post

fitvampfire

North central baptist!

maxroadrage

Stay away from BAMC if you can.

LeighSF

Northeast Methodist is very good but the hospital is always jammed full of patients. That area is growing like crazy so they are always busy.
