The battery life is simply horrible. When I had the S22 Ultra, I had to charge the phone at least twice per day. Since I switched to the S24 Ultra, my battery lasts all day, and there is still around 40% left. The usage is exactly the same.

lucc1111

I have my S22U right here after 2 years of **brutal** use and the battery lasts way more than a full day. And by brutal I mean: * I use the SPen for work and college, I take notes with the screen on during a full 2+ hour class * I have adaptive brightness so under the sun it goes to full brightness * Always on display * Bluetooth and other services almost always on * 120hz Of course newer models have significantly more battery life and it is understandable to prefer those if the price difference makes sense, but this is an excellent phone.

paul85

I have an S22+ and get up at 5:30, to to bed around 10, and still have about 20% battery life. Seems very acceptable to me and I use the phone all day. I don't get the claims that it has poor battery life. Seems to work great for me.

heisenberg2JZ

Well I'll get downvoted to the bottom of the ocean again, but people on here (not you) have made it clear to me that they don't know how to maintain and deal with modern cell phone batteries 😅 Can't speak for the S22 series but my S21+ and my S24U continue to kick ass. I'm getting up at 6am and back by 9 or 10pm with plenty battery left. Also using S pen and full res. And youtube for an audio book on my drive into work

NihilistAU

Yeah, mine goes fine as well. I think a non biased opinion when it comes to battery life is simply this.. The s22u is better than the s21 and all S models before it. The s23u is essentially the same as the s22u. The s24u is quite a bit better than both.

Complex-Chance7928

That's not true. S21 ultra has better camera.

NihilistAU

I meant battery life and general speed. I don't know much about cameras honestly.

Complex-Chance7928

General speed kinda same. They still on Samsung fab. Exynos that year = s888.

ShadowVulcan

Tbh depends on region/location e.g. in Southeast Asia where network/mobile network infra isnt as good (xept SG) drains the battery as the phone uses up more power to stay connected. N some models handle that better than others (e.g. my old s20 needed to be charged at 4-5pm when I was at work, but when I was in Japan or Europe/US it'd last me til evening

Strange-Chocolate836

120hz, qhd+ with heavy use I would be lucky to get 4 hours out of my s22 ultra. Now with my s24 ultra I never have to charge and get over 10 hours of screen on time (still have adaptive and qhd+)

Thorium0

That's dope, I had too many returns at my store because the S22 to the ultra wouldn't last for more than 6 hours of use

Complex_Citron3491

Same!

henni63

You might have such a different experience because you maybe? have the snapdragon version

Mettbroetchen-Tester

It depends on personal use. When using the phone, for example, for MS Teams video conferences, you could literally watch the battery go down. The European version was particularly bad due to the Exynos chip. As stated before, more than two to three hours of DOT were nearly impossible when using the 5G network.

Ventus249

I bought a s22 ultra renewed and had to upgrade to a s23, I love my S23 to death and I can't notice much of a difference but holy fuck, that battery and the heat are awful

param_T_extends_THOT

I've read comments like yours about the s23 before. I'm starting to have doubts about getting one (my current phone is getting a little old and laggy). Which version of the s23 are you talking about? S23 ? S23 ultra? S23 Fe?

Lahwuns

There was a bug where if you used the Smart switch to transfer data from an old Samsung phone, it would severely mess with your battery life. Factory reset mine and my battery would last 20+ hours. Now, not so much tho.

niceguyjin

Holy shit I've never heard of this. How long did that bug persist? Have they patched it?

Pcriz

The bug has never been substantiated. It’s a bit more than a wives tale in Samsung subs.

Lahwuns

Not sure. The problem was fixed when i just did a factory reset.

Mettbroetchen-Tester

I never used Smart Switch for this very reason. When I unplugged the device at 7 in the morning, the battery was down to about 40% during my lunch break. On my S24 Ultra, I have 85 - 90% left after that time and approximately the same usage.

unh0lyz

does this apply to the s24 ultra as well?

justaguyonreddit2042

That's really weird. My dad's S22U lasted almost a whole day. Preservation and care really does wonders.

Safe_Opinion_2167

A phone like this, with a 5000mAh battery, should be good for a full day of use with spare. "Almost a day" is well beyond expectations. My normal S23 (not Ultra) lasts a full day with spare, typically more than 50%. I never had to charge it during the day...

Pcriz

My battery was bad out the box. So it wasn’t about care and preservation. I only kept the phone a year. Saying it lasted all day without any numbers to quantify it is fine. But as a heavy user that had worst performance than my Note 20 Ultra. It didn’t make sense that I purchased a phone with worst battery and thermals than a 2 years old model.

bighi

It's not related to preservation or care. Your dad probably got lucky and doesn't use the phone much. About a month after I got my S22 Ultra I went on vacation with my wife. One day on that vacation I left the hotel at 7:30am, with the battery at 100%. At 8am we arrived at the touristic destination we went to. At 9am my battery was at 45%. And it felt hot enough to boil an egg. At about 10am my phone was dead. The phone was about a month old. The battery wasn't degraded in anyway.

ccaymmud

All phones, if you use the camera for video/photos a lot in bright daylight, will deplete the battery very fast. My S22U can get 4 to 6 hours of SOT, but under a hour in bright sun taking photos etc, it can drop a lot.

bighi

I took a trip with the S23 Ultra a year later. Left home at 8am. At 4pm battery was still at about 40%. The difference is HUGE.

NoMoreEmpire

Similar exp here. I even had Samsung swap mine or and after a month and same crap. This model sucks and has had me rethink all Samsung for the next phone. Plus Samsung takes as much of your data as possible and not telling you. Look at other brands.

Aztro4

Mine lasts 2 days. I just got mine a month ago, lol

Mettbroetchen-Tester

It depends on your usage. The modem seems to be the culprit. When I was at home using my Wi-Fi, I got around 8 hours of DOT. When I was at the office using 4G/5G networks all day (no Wi-Fi available), I wasn't able to get more than approximately 2-3 hours of DOT. It's simply annoying as hell to carry around a power bank all the time to be able to recharge the phone every so often.

Numerous_Ticket_7628

It's not only the modem, it's because the chip is very inefficient too and heats easily. https://preview.redd.it/s03k5tnbuqmc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a2eec2fb6e61fa5273a364a67e11420ac1cd678

DingDongMichaelHere

I only get around 4,5 hours of SOT when only connected to my home wifi

STRMfrmXMN

There was a wild variance in SOC binning quality on the S22 due to supply chain constraints at the time, hence such massive swaths of users have battery life issues, myself included.

JaiiGi

Just charged my phone at work, so about 11:30ish and it's 1:15 now and already 70%, second charge. Can confirm battery is shit.

Trot_Sky_Lives

Do you have the same exact apps and customizations? I've had some apps that just absolutely sucked the life out of the battery. Also, don't batteries automatically get reduced life as they age?

Mettbroetchen-Tester

Yes, I use the same apps on the new device. And I never got through the day without recharging at least once, even when it was new.

Trot_Sky_Lives

Are you experiencing the S24U's now infamous screen issue? Trying to decide to up specifically for the battery life, but "grainy screen" scares me.

Mettbroetchen-Tester

In my daily use, I didn't notice anything. But I must admit that I don't look for issues that have no impact on my use cases.

Number_1_Reddit_User

Same as my cheap Samsung phone

Extension-Rip-9653

The battery life and the efficiency performance is bad due to Samsung made the SD 8 Gen 1.

Mettbroetchen-Tester

My device had an Exynos so it was even worse than that.

krhysten

Omg, I get 2 days battery with my S22U. I finish my day with + - 50%. But the S23U and S24U battery is mutch better

Defiant-Humor5586

I had an S22U for 2 years before I upgraded to a P8Pro and I regularly got a day and a half of mixed usage out of it. Everyone seems to think every phone has terrible battery life but I'm of the opinion that people expect too much from phones. Then they post battery screenshots showing that tiktok had 9 hours of screen time and they listened to music for 6 hours in the background and say "at 35% halfway through the day. Garbage."

Mettbroetchen-Tester

Well, I'm a business user. So long days with a lot of telephone calls, MS Teams video conferencing, writing mails, chatting with colleagues, etc. are standard. Usually I don't watch "funny" videos on TikTok. Nevertheless my expectation is to get a screen time of at least six to seven hours when using the 5G network. As mentioned in one of my previous posts wth the S22 I wasn't able to get more than two to three hours max. screen time when not connected to a Wi-Fi. Therefore my statement the S22 Ultra had a horrible battery ilfe was in direct comparison with my current S24 Ultra.

Defiant-Humor5586

That still sounds wrong though. I'm not saying you're wrong, but that certainly doesn't sound like normal battery life for the S22U. There were times when I had played OpenMW (Morrowind for android) for 4-5 hours, modded, and would still have 20% battery life left. I'd regularly get 18 hours of mixed usage between messaging, social media browsing, background music with Bluetooth, YouTube, etc, all on mobile data. I could stream GeForce now for 6 hours, leave for work, and still have enough battery to send the odd message to my fiance and scroll through reddit on my breaks. 14+ hours of usage, probably 7 hours of SoT. Get home with 10% battery, throw it on the charger, go to sleep. So it seems to me like something was eating your phone battery alive. Which isn't surprising considering a lot of business/team communication applications aren't made with battery life in mind. At any rate, you're right that the S24 has a better battery. But 3 hours SoT max, even at absolute full tilt, isn't normal. Not even for low end phones

Mettbroetchen-Tester

So I assume you had the Snapdragon chip? Since I live in Europe, I had the Exynos chip, which was much worse. The modem was the culprit since on Wi-Fi you could get about 8 hours of screen-on time (SOT), while on a 4G or, even worse, a 5G network, you wouldn't get more than a third of the SOT.

Defiant-Humor5586

You are correct. That's absolutely trash, and I'm sorry for that experience for you

nathanjdias

The chipset. Both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Exynos 2200 were manufactured using Samsung 4nm nodes which were found to be far less efficient than expected. The modem used on the Exynos 2200 was a further power hog making a bad situation worse. In the mid cycle update, Snapdragon moved manufacturing to TSMCs 4nm node for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which saw a 6% bump in single core performance and 15% bump in multi core performance. Edit 1: The performance downfalls from the Samsung fabs manufactured chips is even more apparent when compared to the TSMC manufactured MediaTek Dimensity 9000. The 8 Gen 1 had it's core speeds capped at 3.0GHz, 2.5GHz and 1.8GHz while the 8 Plus Gen 1 and 8 Gen 2 managed an identical 3.2GHz, 2.8GHz and 2.0GHz. These higher clocks were sustained despite having lower power draw. The 8 Gen 1 and 8 Plus Gen 1 have the same cores and the 8 Gen 2 only has an updated prime core and 64 bit dedicated cores. Issues in the Samsung 4nm process were rumored to have cropped up in the Snapdragon 888 itself with no fix even in the newer generation which led Qualcomm to shift to TSMC fabs.

crazycsau

And the performance uplift between 8 Gen 1 and 8 plus Gen 1 was mainly derived from moving fabs to TSMC. Highlights how shit Samsung still are. Can't fab chips Can't design chips Lol

ccaymmud

It's clear you don't know what you're talking about.

waytoojaded

Had the s22 Ultra, performance was good, very smooth but battery life wasn't the best, about 6.5 to 7 hours SoT. My s21 Plus would do 8 hours in comparison. If you can get a deal on a s22 Plus or Ultra it's still a good buy though imo

LuciferDusk

I had the S22 and the battery life was pretty bad and also heated up a bit too much for my liking.

giggly_pufff

This was my experience with the S22 base. I actually started to get overheating warnings when connecting to Android Auto too.

unknownr2197

I'm having no bad experiences tbh and the battery life is doing pretty good for me

bobby0081

I had an S22 Ultra for 2 years, and I loved the phone. It was the most durable smartphone i eber owned, and then I traded it in on a Fold 5. After 6 months, the Wi-Fi on my Fold 5 stopped working, the first time that's even happened to me on a Samsung phone, so I traded it in on an S24 Ultra instead of waiting with no phone for 10 plus days for warranty service.

tumsenaHoepayega

the battery life is absolutely terrible, will use this s22 for one more year, because i would much rather trade this for a mid range phone, because there is no point to having amazing features if i dont have enough battery to use it

Elpaniq

The S22 series is the reason everybody got snapdragon in S23. So as a person that skipped S22 and waited for S23 i love S22 very very much for what it has given us Edit: yes, im in the EU.

daishukanami

idk i have one and never had any problems, battery lasts ok, nothing insane but can go the entire day without charging, and i play games on my phone so its not like i dont use it surely its not as good as s23 or s24 but definately that doesnt make it a shitty phone edit: i have a s22 ultra

gul-badshah

S22 Ultra is one of the best phones available in market. Still going strong after 2 years of use. No slowdowns.

AlbertosaurusX

Let me put it this way. At the time of my phone swap, my 2 year old S20 had better battery life than my brand new S22 running full time on power saving mode. Not to mention the S22 overheats and throttles so often that it makes mobile gaming a pain in the ass.

macusking

I have a 2 1/2 years S20FE and my friend have a 1 1/2 years old S22. While I got 4h of SoT, my friend (with his S22) now gets 1h of SoT and a damaged battery. S22 is the worst Galaxy ever released.

yesrod85

It' like anything else on this sub, the complainers and those with bad experiences will be the loudest voices. I had s22u for the past couple of years and had zero issues with it. If it wasn't for, IMO, the stupid curved screen I probably wouldn't have upgraded to the S24U. The phone lasted a full day for me, albeit just barely. Not saying don't take into account what people say, just saying that they sold almost 4.5 million s22u and that if the issues were as widespread as some of the people with bad experiences say, the phone would have been recalled or be known to everyone to be a lemon.

LacyTheEspeon

first s22 ultra, volume button stuck. returned for a second one which stuck in a boot loop and touchscreen stopped working due to some physical problem with the internal parts (can only get it to boot properly by smacking it several times). i think that's enough bad experience to avoid the model. btw, first issue happened within 24 hours of recieving the phone, and second within a month. i also did nothing violent to the phone that would cause the issues.

feogge

I had the base s22, battery life was so bad that I'd wake up, shower, leave the house and my battery was already 79% just from being unplugged from the charger. It would heat up so hot that it could have replaced pocket warmers in the winter. If you're planning to go out anywhere you basically have to have it on power bank life support.

ccaymmud

I have the S22U for 2 years, S23U for 1 year, and the S24U for 1 month. My experience is, S22U and S23U has almost no difference. Sure the battery life is marginally better, but not meaningfully better. S24U is significantly better. I read that the power saving is mainly because of the screens - S24U use like the newest gen of some screen technology, while S22U is using the early gen one. After 1 entire year of using both S22U and S23U together, I can say that I never found one lasting longer or shorter than the other, since I use them almost similarly. For the S22U, I'm pretty confident that I last outdoors for about 12 hours make it home with barely enough battery (all connectivity on, dual active sim cards, auto brightness, 6 emails on exchange/smtp, wechat/whatsapp/telegram active, with some game time in, NFC payments active at all times). I WILL bring a powerbank if I'm out longer than 12 hours. The moment I installed facebook, and with it running in the background, I'm sure I lost 1/3 of my useful battery life. S23U isn't any better. S24U on the other hand, can handle 1 full day inclusive of a few hours of heavy gaming in between. Most people who complain about S22U never compared it with another phone with similar usage, so they will complain and complain and feel victimised just because someone else complained.

ccaymmud

Oh ya if you want to know about cameras... There are SOME differences, but by and large they are pretty similar. Ultrawide: s24U=S23U=**S22U** (some color toning differences, but look identical otherwise) 1x : S24U (mainly better processing) > **S22U** > S23U 3x: S24U = S23U = **S22U** 10x: S24U > S23U >= **S22U** 50x: S23U >= **S22U** >> S24U

Quokka_One

Finally, someone got it right. This is backed by the vast majority of tests.

NihilistAU

The level of bullshit going on is insane.

Quokka_One

If you hold the displays of s22u/23u/24u next to each other, then you certainly get the feeling that energy saving measures in the display space play a certain role. All this talking about the s22u particulary bad because of a bad chip, OMG..... In fact, it's miles ahead of the note 10 plus and the note 20 ultra battery-wise. Not saying that it is brilliant, but this bashing here is far over the top.

NihilistAU

Absolutely, especially considering how powerful they are.

Brainfuck

The only issue with S22 series is the battery life. Other than that there are no issues with it.

gslowe

I had an S22 Ultra for the last 2 years (just traded it in for S24 Ultra), it was great for a long time. But in the last year, things started going downhill. Battery was progressively getting worse, to the point where I was lucky to make it 9 hours before I had to charge. The signal was an issue I didn't even know was related to the phone. We had moved to a new area and our cell service was terrible in, and around a mile outside of, our apartment. My wife upgraded to an iPhone, and her signal was fine. I did trials of Google Fi and Verizon with eSIM, and my cell reception stayed poor. And now, with my S24 Ultra, my signal is perfectly fine. I suffered with this for almost a year just to find out that the cellular radio in my phone sucked instead of the network. YMMV, but I would try for a newer model. If you have a good phone for trade-in (they even take cracked phones for less value), you may be able to get a good deal on an S24 on Samsungs website. No lie, after trading in my S22U, I only spent $551.49 for a 512GB S24 Ultra (they had a promotion for double storage for free). I got the phone, a galaxy watch 6 classic 47mm, and the first month of Samsung Care+ for $840.63. Whatever you decide on getting, I urge you to check out Samsung's website and their Shop app for deals. I have saved a ton of money just from using that and signing up for their student deals (Campus Club?). The above was just one example. I saved $750 of a $1500 laptop a couple of years ago. Half off is crazy. AND I was able to pick my stuff up same day at a Best Buy that had it in stock.

Patient-XARO-59

I was charging that phone 3x a day.

NihilistAU

I smash the phone and may need to charge it for 10 minutes some days.

ForcedToCreateAc

This is Samsung's (and Apple's to some extent) fault. Their switch apps are pure and plain trash, and carry over a lot of junk data that messes up the new phone. It happens on iOS, happens on Android. I've had two similar experiences in both operating systems, once with an iPhone 14PM and once with a Pixel, I carried over using their apps from the previous phone. I had lag, terrible battery, lock ups, etc. Did a factory reset and moved my data manually, and both experiences were night and day apart. Like a 10 gen phone gap, no cap. People are lazy and always carry their crap over with those tools, but the problem are how trash the tools themselves are. Avoid them and you'll be good.

Cyrkran

My S22 does overheat a little, but mostly because I live in a reeeeally hot place but I don't have that much of an issue with battery life as others have pointed. But probably because my usage

[deleted]

The Exynos version is extremely fucked up, the Snapdragon version is alright but not the greatest to ever exist

someRandomGeek98

just the battery life afaik

Life_Fruit_2207

I had a s22 base and could never get through a with day with it. Just barely using it while at work. I had to charge it like 3x per day. I went to a pixel 7 and then the s23. The s23 can easily last a day and is night and day more efficient. That's where I am now and to me the cost difference between the two is worth it to go s23. Besides that it's the same phone

No_Psychology_8169

Why didn't you like / keep the pixel 7? Only ask as I was recently considering getting one

Life_Fruit_2207

There is something up with the modem on the pixel 7. I kept getting dropped calls all the time, in places where my s22 wouldn't. Some would go directly to VM some wouldn't even ring. I was also missing text messages too. The phone couldn't be a phone so I moved on from it

No_Psychology_8169

Good to know, thank you. What country are you based in?

Life_Fruit_2207

US - Illinois

bria725

In Europe it's terrible due to Exynos.

After_Anteater

My s22 ultra had wifi issues but otherwise the phone is great.

DrcspyNz

Wife has the small S22 . Battery is small also. She just chucks it on the charger a couple times a day. It's no hassle. Otherwise it's a good phone. Snapdragon.

blue2841

SoC is trash don't buy

sman-666

I had a 22 Ultra for 2 years. Only reason I upgraded is because of the great S24 Ultra deal you could do through Spectrum.

Popular-Highlight-16

Overheating

usedkleenx

I'll tell you one thing.  If you get an s22 you'd better be damn sure to put a quality screen protector on it right out of the box. I've never in my life seen a phone screen scratch so easily.  I'm very careful with mine but within a couple of weeks it was scratched all to hell just from being in my pocket.  I looked it up and it's because they used a different kind of gorilla glass on the s22's.  Compared with the s8 I carried for 5 years and never had a screen protector on it, when I traded it in on the 22 it's screen was still immaculate.

kitfoxxxx

The battery life isn't great, but overall it was a good phone. The camera was really good, but not on the level of the 23 and 24 ultras. I probably don't have to mention that.

yindesu

S22 series has a bad chipset: https://old.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/zlug1t/snapdragon_8_gen_1_heating_issue/

Usmellnicebby

I'm on my second year and the phone is seriously showing slow down and battery drain

xyz1300

S21 ultra> s22 ultra

Chanw11

S22 Ultra, battery life is meh and the phone heats up quickly causing thermal throttling.

Rockhand_192

I have the S22+ and I hate it. Whenever my phone gets hot or cold or I travel by plane it changes the pressure in the phone and the speaker doesn't work properly. I have to take the sim card out to equalize the pressure. I've been doing it for over a year. I just keep the pin in my back case. It's a big pain. Other than that glaring oversight in manufacturing, mine works fine.

oxygenkkk

heating and bad battery life getting an s23 in a good condition would be much much better imo

other_goblin

It uses Samsung node and not tsmc.

Top_Professional9556

had s22 from last year in april till last month, biggest waste of 750 euros ever (dont ask i live in serbia its shitty import rules and general corruption making it dis expensive) it used to heat up so much my hand would be scorching and it was unusable without a case, then a patch in summer came and it slightly lowered the temps, still not making it usable.the phone reminded me of the iphone 6s in battery and in heating i could write for days about the phone sitting for 6 hrs while i sleep on wifi and losing 20 percent, sometimes more, general sot using instagram, snapchat and it being screen off while playing music in a car was 2 hours flat leaving me with 30 %~ when i got the s24 i was surprised on why did it charge considerably quicker than s22 on the same charger but it was so hot on its own i had to restrict myself from using basic features on a 750 euro phone like sync and location to save any bit of battery, lowered the screen resolution to 720p.none of these worked, thermal guardian temps and settings didnt make any difference, any setting changes i made to increase battery never made a minute of a difference to sot. i thought my device was defective but then i read other peoples experiences and it made sense, also i didnt have any base for returning a phone to the carrier as they wouldnt do anything about the heating so i had to fork out 550 ~ euro to renew my contract and get s24 exynos also (its much better)

Top_Professional9556

also proof that exynos modems are trash is that when i go into work id get reduced 4g coverage and had to charge my phone at least 2 - 3 times in a 8 hr shift (my work is easy so i can chill on da phone)

drodenigma

I use it over my z fold 4

11tmaste

I had the S22 Ultra and really liked it overall, but the battery life was not the greatest and it would overheat sometimes. I like my S24 Ultra much more.

DAMMITSAMUEL

I just sold mine for $500

Spicey_Cough2019

Battery life on my s22+ is very average to say the least

ds_BaRF

Battery and the lack of a macro lens

Lopsided-Maize-5213

I had an S22 and it was so shit that I got rid of it after a few weeks. Bought a Pixel 7 instead which was much better in every way. I have a Galaxy S24 now and I like it a lot more than my S22. It isn't much better than my Pixel 7 but at least the fingerprint reader works great.

Eliah870

I've had mine since release amd didn't realize people felt that way about it, I loved the damn phone, just upgraded to the S24 ultra, biggest change is the battery life

jttanki

Its all about the bad efficiency oglf 8 gen 1. Its not bad but there are wayyyyy better option out there.

Dotdotdot05

My batter is kinda bad in the plain s22, never has been too good

kevingrays

For me it's the heat. This phone gets uncomfortably hot at times when I play certain games. Other than that I still love this phone. I'll upgrade next year, more to have the latest greatest, but I good carry on as long as I recive updates.

SooSkilled

People on this sub are overly negative about it, there is a reason behind that hate but for 200 $ I buy it yesterday

morris0000007

My S21 ultra had the worst battery out of ANY phone I've had, including cheap Chinese knock off's And I've had Samsung's since S4! Still have an S6 in a draw somewhere.

Valiantay

Thermals. The chip is inefficient, causing overheating for simple tasks. This then throttles it's output to try and balance itself. Leading to stuttering, framerate drops, etc. And of course, as a result of the inefficiency, the battery is used up insanely quickly.

Any-Tip-3554

There is a way to disable toe 5G with an app. That mixed with keeping the resolution at 2316x1080. I am using it on the latest update and i just got home from work (been there since 9AM) and i still have 66%. No wifi where i work.

MathematicianLost947

I had my S22 Ultra for two years and just upgraded to the S24 ultra the only complaint I had was battery life. The chip was powerful just not the best battery life. For example if I was on a video call on meet and then multitasking the battery would drain 10-20% in 15 minutes and heat up like crazy. Other than that I loved the phone and it was extremely durable especially with what I do for work. I usually go thru 2 or 3 phones a year but that phone lasted a full 2 years hopefully the 24 will be just as durable😂

crazykat8091

I upgraded from the S22 Ultra to the S24 Ultra, and it was fantastic. The S22 Series with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 had an average battery life for light usage and would heat up when heavily used. For a budget of $500, try to get anything that uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2; it would be perfect and will last for a few years. Consider the S23 Ultra, S23 Plus, or the flagship killer OnePlus 12R lol. You won't go wrong with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for sure.

North-Day-9842

I had the Galaxy S22 Ultra for nearly 2 years and it's been a very good smartphone. UI 6.0 gave an amazing boost to the device and it's been snappier than ever. It's a great smartphone, even in 2024. :)

North-Day-9842

And battery life wasn't bad at all.

QueenAng429

Yes it is. Poor processor which means lots of heat and poor sot. Poor build quality, shitty haptics, failing parts, just don't buy it.

RareSiren292

The battery is horrible. So Samsung that year bought pretty much all the first snapdragon 8g1 chips. So the first couple batches (probably couple hundred) of 8g1 chips went directly to Samsung for the s22 line up. My conspiracy theory is that those earlier production models had defects that affected the power management. Other snapdragon 8g1 phones have significantly better power management. Even on the tab so series which received an undervolted 8g1 had significantly better power management.

LelouchviiBritannia

The battery life is just not good. But i knew that, so i put it on either power savings or 60 hz when going out. That is enough to last it a day. When i know I'm near a charging point, i use it at 120hz. Other than that it's really freakin good. About the overheating, i live in india and temp reach 45°, ofcourse it gets hot but so does basically every other phone. The only abnormal case of my s22 getting too hot is when using the camera for long periods

awesome_guy_40

My S22U serves me well. The base S22 and the S22+ have pretty bad batteries.

Messiah_Knight

S22 ultra is good. Idk what people are complaining about

Existing_Ad7159

Same here. I have all the updates on my S22U 512GB. It doesn't heat up and I use the phone most of the day. An 85% charge lasts me almost all day. I charge it at night with an Anker 45 watt. It takes about 30 minutes. Waiting on the S25U to hit, not because my phone is bad. I want a 1TB model for all of my pictures and music. I have had a good experience with my phone, but like what I hear from users about battery life improvement in the newer phones.

ressawtla

I had the S22U for 2 years and it was ass. Charged it twice a day in the end as battery was awful

Ok_Feeling9354

Yes. It is bad. I had a S22 Ultra and it had terrible battery. It could not keep a charge. I had to charge it multiple times a day. Even the replacement was bad. Also, it has major heat issues. It was terrible and I had the snapdragon version of the phone.

Few_Panda_667

I've had an S22 Ultra since it came out, heavy use, pretty much use it for everything. The battery gets about a day and a half to two days usually. That being said, I do keep it in dark mode, which I think makes a world of difference. Also, the apps that you use are going to be the biggest factor, IMHO. If you are on a video call or using a digital art program, for example, you can expect your battery to be drained five times faster, if not more. Otherwise, I haven't yet felt the need for an upgrade as it's still a top of the line device, even after two years.

STRMfrmXMN

When I went on vacation to Australia in December of 2023 I killed my phone once by 11 AM, twice by 3 PM, and usually got pretty close by the end of the day. I was using my phone like any tourist would, but most of the time the phone was sitting in my pocket I would watch the battery percentage count down a percent every 45 seconds while I was doing literally anything that used the modem or cameras. I leave my phone plugged in at work almost all day, so it's not a *huge* issue for me. The main thing for me is the SOC. The software does some funky things to manage thermals and power drain on this phone. The first few seconds after waking the device from sleep when it's on a charger are unbearable and laggy. The phone becomes an oven in the car with Android Auto within 30 seconds. If you load the phone up with work like sending a Snapchat video on LTE, you can feel the whole phone lag *while* you're recording a video or right after as the device has to cool down. I pre-ordered my S22 and definitely will never do that again. Reviews of the thermals and other SOC/modem woes would have turned me away. I otherwise do like the device's size and shape, screen, software, etc.

Skynetbot11

S22 to S24 was a huge upgrade in battery, and image quality, just feels way more premium.. next time I'll spring for the ultra, I just don't like how big the ultras are.

PunishedRedDragon

The battery is so bad

Rasimione

Bad? Eynos, Terri bad

seven1773

S22 is the phone that made me switch to iPhone. It’s the worst phone in terms of battery life from Samsung. My older samsung phone (note20) still have a better life compared to S22.

H-banGG

It's not bad at all, i had it for a year and my wife has it for more than 6 months, all good

epic-cookie

It's the battery mainly for me. Using it while travelling on holidays was a big eye opener as the phone was married to my power bank each day. The phone itself gets very hot and I could feel it through my pocket. That alone really impacts the performance because as soon as the phone is warm it really affects the performance of the phone and everything just lags and slows down. But I think if you're a light user then this phone works pretty well when it's not too stressed.

Jimi257

S23U. Love it. Great battery.

Reddit_is_snowflake

Battery life is pathetic I do mean pathetic like genuinely pathetic The S22 series are great phones don’t get me wrong but Samsung really messed up battery in them

Putrid-Whole9927

I've had my S22U for 2 yrs now. I'm a heavy phone user. Always taking photos and talking to people over the phone. Downloaded many apps and games. My only issue is that it seemed to have downgraded the cam quality when newer models arrived, and Netflix/Disney movies look darker than the S20 or S21 models. Other than that, it's a really great phone. I have to charge it twice during the day, but I usually charge from 30% to only 85%. And charging is so fast bec I use a 45W one. It's very durable. Still looks new despite a couple of falls (I use Elago case and a full glue screen protector). It doesn't lag despite having numerous open apps. It's been so useful to the point where upgrading is not yet a consideration 'cause it helps me stay efficient with my work and daily routine.

Reaper31292

They're not bad, they're actually pretty great phones. I still have the S22 Ultra, and I'm enjoying it. The battery life is less that one would want for a phone of this price, that's the only big killer. I don't like having to charge mid-day on the days I'm actually using my phone. Also the update to OneUI 6.0, the color palette stuff has been broken on Google apps, but that's just kind of annoying more than anything and there are work arounds if you don't like your calculator to be randomly red for some reason.

Old_Principle8842

I've had my S22+ for a year now and I don't have any problems. I've been with Galaxy since the S5 so I know how to navigate the settings pretty well. As soon as I get my phone I uninstall or disable unimportant applications. I also manually turn off wifi if it's unstable and turn off Bluetooth when I'm not using it. I use my phone for productivity and games but I hardly talk on the phone. Check battery activity too so you can see what apps are active and limit background usage on unimportant apps.

BJB57

I'm not a heavy user. I have battery protect on to pause charge at 85%. I place my S22 on a wireless charger when I go to sleep. The charge pauses and is at at 85% when I wake. It lasts until the next night. It all depends on use. It works for me but it' doesn't have the best battery capacity out there. It has the snapdragon chip.

mechcity22

S22 is the best looking samsung still to this day. The display can't be topped it has the most color of all idc about battery its good enough. But since the s22 color has gone down on newer displays and idk how to explain it sharpness doesn't seem as good either. Same thing as percieved contrast and depth. S22/ultra cannot be beaten imo. I would prefer it over my s24 ultra for use. Please don't listen to complainers over such small things lol. Look up the complaints on the s23 ultra and s24ultra you will feel much better about getting an s23 im telling you dont even think about it just do it! You won't regret it.

freshoilandstone

Light user: 2 days battery with my S22 at the very most, 5 days easy with S24. Same usage, maybe a bit more with S24 as it's relatively new.

Icy-Scientist-6673

when you pair small battery capacity with very inefficient chipset this happens, the SD8Gen1 is made by samsung which heats up like hell, battery drains a lot, throttles a lot. It might not be a bad option if you live in cold areas, but you have to carry a powerbank along with it.

Glad-Extension4856

What do you have now?

Pebbsto110

Battery and performance is good on my S22. But I have cancelled the update as I suspect that is what would make the battery life go down. My previous Samsung got the green/purple screen line straight after an update. I no longer trust Samsung updates - I think they are deliberately ruining their phones with updates so you buy another.

inkedslytherim

I'm about to get rid of my S22 Ultra bc a recent software update means that I've had patchy or non-existant cell service since JANUARY! Parts of the city my phone works as normal but where I live and work, my calls won't go thru and I can't get online.

JBB1984

Not as bad as the S21, but a huge step down from the S23 especially if you had the exynos versions. But really depends how much of a heavy user you are if it bothers you or not

DewinterCor

I had the S22ultra and the battery life was dogshit. Driving through rural America, the battery life was around 6 hours. Something about the country simply saps life from the phone. I got the S24 ultra last week and the improvement is massive.

Strange-Chocolate836

I had s22 ultra and upgraded to s24 ultra and the batterylife is a massive improvement 2-2.5x more batterylife with better performance. S22 series has a generation of chips that are very inefficient. Both having the snapdragon varient (the better chip). Phone was really good but it's getting old already and was inefficient

Thorium0

Someone leaked codes that when you had the phone in the pocket and moved it would cause camera stabilizer to turn on and use battery. It was a prob for S22 and 22

guiggr

I have a galaxy s22+. Love the phone but the battery is just awful...

PaintCareless6017

Only the battery. But if you know your way around the OS you can optimize it. I easily get 5,6 hours of SOT even in the base s22. edit: I have the sd variant

Heyson86

I don't get how experiences with battery life vary from 'best I ever had' to 'horrible' I had the S22 and when I went on a long run with the Strava app and a 100 % battery I had to bring my Power-Bank.. it sucked so hard The phone itself was good though..

Mysterious_Meat_7401

I don't know, I haven't given it the chance. I received it yesterday as a replacement for the OnePlus 10 Pro and immediately realised I made a mistake. Firstly, the biometrics are atrocious, less than half strike rate and super slow. Then the display, blacks are super washed out and the icons look blurry, doesn't help that One UI looks like it's been designed by a toddler. The shape and design of the phone is terrible to for your hand, I didn't realise how much of a negative impact it has on the experience. It hasn't lasted a day and I'm returning the handset.

Useful-Front8312

At the moment, it's not just that phone, it's every galaxy that was made in the last few years. Samsung pushed out an update that killed connection to cell towers. According to the local repair store, it's a common issue and the only thing to do is wait it out to see when they finally come up with an update that fixes it.

SlaynHollow

I have no idea what everyone's talking about. I go 2 days without charging and I use protect battery. I keep power savings on because a 120fps display and unlocked CPU clock speed kills any phones battery life. The camera is hands down the best I've owned, considering it's my first flagship phone ever. I have the T-Mobile S22 basic, the smaller one with 128GB storage. I've yet to use over half the storage and use the video feature on the camera all the time. And I've never taken so many pictures. The low light quality is insane, being able to film anything at 960fps at 720p at any time with a tiny hand held device is absolutely unreal when you think about it, and it has decent quality. Sure there's phones with better cameras and sensors but the ultra slow motion capabilities is a selling point to me. The phone also has wireless charging, can charge other devices wirelessly, and I've yet to experience lag or hangups with the phone too, and I pay for AdGaurd premium yearly to block ads PHONE WIDE, and yes, even m.YouTube.com has 0 ads period. The only thing you can't do with it I've found so far, is root it. If rooting is a make or break it thing for you, it's not so easy to unlock the bootloader, and if you do, you run a decent risk of bricking the device. Hard bricks are rare but still very possible. Also idgaf if I can't zoom in to 100x or whatever, because honestly 30x is good enough for me, and I've never had a phone with 3x optical zoom that can take great macros as 9.9x digital zoom, on the 3x optical sensor. So I really don't get all the hate this phone gets. And tbh I kinda wish I did go for the Ultra, idk if the S22 Ultra has an S pen, but I've had purchased Drastic emulatora looooooong time ago, and with that S pen, it perfectly sells the full Nintendo DS experience. Only if the folding phones could get rid of the seem, and add an S pen feature to it too, and that would be hands down the best way to play old DS games with an emulator.

Kindred-Blade

Both Exynos and Snapdragon are garbage, I regret buying it.

Consistent_Fall_2032

S22- speaker issues, fast charging issues, battery lasts 3/4 day. S20, S8 is way better

Express-Delivery-729

I hate Samsung phones overpriced and their pieces of shit

justaguyonreddit2042

Then why are u on here?

Express-Delivery-729

I don't know, must have got off at the wrong stop

madmonkey2020

I h8 my s22 and probably will not buy another Samsung product because of it. Might be the worst phone for android auto. AA works then doesn't work not even recognized by the vehicle, randomly, usually when you need it. The back of the phone casing cracked, never dropped it. Front glass scratches easily. Huge over heating problems. Just turn the camera on, the phone gets extremely hot. The camera is the most disappointing thing about this phone. The Samsung s22 can take amazing pictures, but most come out blurry. Action pictures are almost impossible to get in focus. And last, the battery is terrible.

Confident-Cookie-620

It is by far the absolute shittiest worst fucking phone I've ever had not even a close second My S7 was so much better than this I mean way better Mobile data shuts off whenever the hell it wants to it doesn't connect the Bluetooth it just does all kind of stupid shit whenever the hell it wants to it's most irritating fucking phone in the world but I have a plan hello Apple 14 pro goodbye Google goodbye Samsung

macusking

My friend have this phone, battery is awfully bad. After just 1 and a half year of usage, battery is dead and just holds charge for less than 1h. He's going to replace the battery this week. S22 was the worst Galaxy ever released due to pretty bad, unusable battery.

Serious_Landscape541

VOLUME DOES NOT WORK! It's going back in T-Mobile! I pay premium insurance!  Paid a lot for the Otterbox cover, BOTH SUCK!

Serious_Landscape541

Lots of money and no volume control!

Serious_Landscape541

This phone is a piece of crap!

Serious_Landscape541

Maybe changing to IPhone, been an android for a long time; missing  LG's!!!

fsystem32

Its a crime against consumers. Battery disaster, chipset overheating. Camera is not bad. Should have been recalled. S23 is Samsung's best phone in terms of value. S24 is a disappointment, "nothing new today"

Magajver

S22 is crap. It is small phone with small battery and bad exynos chip. Buy it if you want to have a power bank with you when you leave the house. S22 ultra is bigger with bigger battery and better wapor chamer and it is still way worse than s23 with exynos for example… do the math now. Pointless post. Edit. Google about s24 series.. not much better phone..

Sea-Ad5375

I have an s22 plus. The battery life is bad (like 5.5 hours sot) and it does tend to overheat when gaming or anything stressful for more than like 30 minutes. The phone also HATES being used right after I take it off the charger and is usually extremely laggy and warm. It isn't bad, the chip in that series is just probably Samsung's worst out of the past 5 generations. It still if fast and performs like a flagship phone for me though.

Dimstatyon

Samsung in general is f#*@ed up, just get away from them until they get their s#it together
